Nominator's rationale: This was just renamed as part of a batch adding the diacritic (see
Wikipedia:Categories for discussion/Log/2021 January 17). However, the title of this category was also changed from -languages to -language (plural to singular). This was presumably done in good faith on the grounds that "Sámi-language" sounds more like an adjective than "Sámi-languages". However, as there is not just one Sámi language but a few, and the category is explicitly "for songs sung in Sámi languages", the adjective "Sámi" is more appropriate; cf.

Comment: IIRC, compound adjectives are never in the plural, so "Sámi-languages X" is not proper English. Then again, I am not a native speaker and might be wrong here. In regards to the move, I am neither for nor against the proposed rename, though I will note that the existing name is in line with the rest of
Category:Songs by language. Of particular interested therein might be
Category:Chinese-language songs, which also covers a language family (Cantonese, Mandarin, ...) rather than a single language.

The history of this is that they were first past the post until 1999, then multi-member Proportional representation constituencies until BREXIT. Nominator's rationale: US and Canada are the only exceptions in the
Category:Municipalities (we probably need a 'by country' container category). I can't think of any reason why we would need to rise 'in' for those two countries and 'of' for the rest of the world, so I suggest standardizing the the more common form. Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus|
reply here 05:53, 12 January 2021 (UTC)reply
Oppose, Comment by category creator back in 2009. My one concern here is that municipalities in the U.S. are not incorporated under the federal government/federal law, but rather are entirely creations of state governments/state law. So they are not "of" the United States (they are instead "of Alaska", "of Arizona", etc.) and phrasing it that way could confuse or obscure that relationship under U.S. federalism, probably why I chose the language I did when I created this category. I don't know if that's a strong enough objection to merit opposing, but the value of superficial consistency also has its limits. postdlf (talk) 15:25, 12 January 2021 (UTC) - updated to frame as opposition rather than mere comment. postdlf (talk) 23:15, 2 February 2021 (UTC)reply
Rename — Municipalities are specifically mentioned under
Wikipedia:Category names#State-based topics. Both Canada and US have intermediate State or Province, but so do many other countries. That is, they are of the US, but in the state. I'm fairly sure we were consistent on this, and there is an explanatory note. William Allen Simpson (
talk) 16:18, 12 January 2021 (UTC)reply
But my point is that it's actually the opposite in the U.S., they are merely "in" the country, but "of" the state. I don't know how much that applies to other countries, where the subdivisions may be organized under different levels of authority and different types of federalism. postdlf (talk) 20:29, 13 January 2021 (UTC)reply
Probably in most countries the decision about creating a new municipality takes place at a lower than national level. It is a bit odd to say that an institution is "of" (possessed by) another institution anyway. But those things should be discussed in a broader nomination regarding the entire tree.
Marcocapelle (

There could be a discussion about the entire category some other time but it is not very meaningful to leave two exceptions in an otherwise consistent tree.
Marcocapelle (
talk) 09:37, 15 January 2021 (UTC)reply
Of course it is meaningful: we are having that very discussion now. I have not commented on the Canadian case because I am not familiar with their political structures, The US situation I am well-acquainted with because a number of the variations figure heavily in my home state; in the New England township system the whole notion of "town" gets mutated into a system of counties-within-counties. I'm not convinced that it is necessary to hammer the American square peg in the rest-of-world round hole merely for consistency, especially since (from what I can see) just about any other solution would avoid that.
Mangoe (
talk) 15:18, 15 January 2021 (UTC)reply
In Canada, municipalities are entities of the provinces, they have little actual power, unless accorded to them by the province. The federal government has nothing to do with them, as under the constitution, it is a provincial responsibility; so "of" is wrong in Canada. --

Being Moroccan royalty is absolutely defining for
Prince Moulay Rachid of Morocco and
Princess Lalla Malika of Morocco which is why we have
Category:Moroccan royalty. Being awarded the

Being a member of the Bavarian Royal House of
Thurn und Taxis is absolutely defining which is why we have have
Category:Thurn and Taxis. According to the
Order of Parfaite Amitié article, members of Thurn and Taxis are awarded with Knighthood when they turn 18.
This is a redundant category since nearly all the recipients are already under that family category. (The only two exceptions are
Alexander, Count of Schönburg-Glauchau whose sister married into the family and King
Maximilian II of Bavaria who is, well, the King of Bavaria.) There wasn't a list so I created one right

At least, mergeCategory:Former European Parliament constituencies in Scotland upwards to eliminate a redundant layer. The history of this is that they were first past the post until 1999, then multi-member Proportional representation constituencies until BREXIT. When any were active, it was useful to segregate defunct ones, but it may be useful to restructure so that we have an English subcat for 1979-99 and another for 1999-2019, but all parented by a single UK category. They are all now "former".

I'm not making any claims about any other categories or countries. The only issue here is how to name this one. postdlf (talk) 18:45, 16 January 2021 (UTC)reply
oppose per category creator. Also, it seems to me that a cleaner solution would be to get rid of the preposition by saying "UNited State municipalities" or "German municipalities".
Mangoe (

Being awarded the
Order of the Throne for being a Moroccan royal or courtesan is a redundant way of categorizing the royal family. (The original intent of the award was broader so there are also a few prominent non-Royal Moroccan and foreign royal recipients—

2,
3,
4,

6—but they just mention the award in passing so it doesn't seem defining to them either.) There wasn't a list so I created one

Maximilian II of Bavaria who is, well, the King of Bavaria.) There wasn't a list so I created one right
here in the main article for any reader interested in the topic. If the knight subcategory is deleted, the parent category will only have the
one eponymous article left. -
