The user NSSIAS recently made a bunch of (apparently manual) highly repetitive edits to a fairly large number of pages.
These all seem to take the form of something like below:
In Europe, Faxonius virilis is included since 2016 in the list of Invasive Alien Species of Union concern (the Union list). [1] This implies that this species cannot be imported, bred, transported, commercialized, or intentionnaly released into the environment in the whole of the European Union. [2]
Could someone with AWB permissions go through their edit history and patch up these edits with a REGEX or something?
I suggest the following changes:
Overall, maybe:
Faxonius virilis has been included since 2016 on the European Union's List of Invasive Species of Union Concern. This prohibits the species from being intentionally imported, transported, kept, bred, commercialized, or released.
Anyway, the point is that here's a large number of edits that IMO introduced potentially valuable content, but which could benefit from an easily automated mass rewrite.

Hi there... I haven't used AWB for years, but just downloaded it and tried it without success. What am I doing wrong? What I want to do is replace the string " http://pdfhost.focus.nps.gov/docs/NRHP/Text/64500075.pdf" or similar by " https://catalog.archives.gov/id/84127661", and make some manual edits also, in perhaps 100 articles on historic schoolhouses in Colorado. I applied "Make list" to identify the 2638 or so articles within 5 recursive levels of Category:National Register of Historic Places in Colorado. I set Skip to omit articles where text Doesn't contain: "Rural School Buildings in Colorado" (after I first tried setting Skip to where text Doesn't contain: "64500075.pdf", which also failed). I did not put quote marks into the field, should i have? And it will Skip if Page doesn't exist. And then I ran it by selecting Start tab and hitting Start button. It just goes through the list without pausing on any page, while I know it should stop on some pages like "Gas Creek School" and "Coates Creek Schoolhouse". What am I missing, why doesn't it stop?
And also, I don't see how to use the replace function which is apparently under Options / Find and replace. I don't see where to enter the text string to be replaced or where to enter the text to be replaced. I would like for the full string replacement to be done on a given page, with it still allowing me to make other manual changes. Help!
Thanks in advance for any advice offered. :) -- Doncram ( talk) 00:10, 6 November 2021 (UTC)
Update: It partly works, I find, after I further tried two changes:
Now it stopped on Coates Creek Schoolhouse which I just manually edited. And I let it run to find some more and did a few more edits, but then quit leaving more yet to be addressed. Why did it choose to stop on the right pages now? And still, how can i set up the find and replace? -- Doncram ( talk) 00:21, 6 November 2021 (UTC)

After
adding the "collapsible option" template to a number of templates, I noticed that the default visibility was not automatically inferred from the template code as I assumed, but had to be manually set/copied into the |default=
parameter. Would it be possible to go through these pages again and add the parameter by copying it from {}
in the template code (they don't appear to coincide between the templates, but this should be beside the point of this discussion)? ~~~~

collapsible option
template, one will now have to replace
to correct this error. Was I that unclear? Look, I literally said that the content of the |default=
parameter should be taken from {}
in the template code and explicitly that these are not the same between all the templates. You just added |default=expanded
everywhere, even though templates like and (and probably the majority of this set) use the "collapsed
" option. ~~~~Hi! This didn't get attention the first time I posted it, so hopefully now will work better.
I have access but don't know how to use the regex features. I'd like for someone to convert all U.S. county presidential election results from wikitable markup (such as at Rockland County, New York) into template form using PresHead, PresRow, and PresFoot (such as at Cook County, Illinois). Consensus exists for this change so it is not a "controversial" change that is prohibited by AWB rules. There is currently a Reward Board entry for this task, and anyone who does it will be given an appropriate barnstar.
Thanks!
– John M Wolfson ( talk • contribs) 23:20, 6 January 2022 (UTC)
It doesn't seem too difficult prima facie; I've tried regex to the effect of replacing:
{| align="center" border="2" cellpadding="4" cellspacing="0" style="float:right; margin: 1em 1em 1em 0; border: 1px #aaa solid; border-collapse: collapse; font-size: 95%;" |+ Presidential election resultsX |- bgcolor=lightgrey ! Year ! Republican ! Democratic ! Third parties |-
with
{{PresHead|place={}|whig=y|source1=X}} <!-- PresRow should be -->
Things might be tricky with varying numbers of sources, but the code of PresHead is probably such that multiple sources can be concatenated in the |source1=
parameter even if that's not technically good practice. Ditto for replacing
| style="text-align:center;" |Y | style="text-align:center;" |48.6% R | style="text-align:center;" |50.3% D | style="text-align:center; background:honeyDew;"|1.1% T |-
with

And similar, with the table cap, for PresFoot. There are, of course, some snags that this could hit. Rockland County's example above includes an example of referencing a specific row, which is a big no-no for PresRow (all references need to be at the table head), as well whether the links are to 2020 United States presidential election in New York or United States presidential election in New York, 2020 (for example), and a human AWB operator would have to look out for such cases. The particularly coding-inclined could also write a method/function in AWB to deal with such things. In any event, I feel that this is certainly non-trivial but ultimately doable by my technical superiors. – John M Wolfson ( talk • contribs) 18:18, 7 January 2022 (UTC)

Church cantata was recently split, with most of the content going into List of church cantatas by liturgical occasion. Sadly, per Gerda Arendt on my talk page, this happens to break many incoming links. An example edit should guide you through what needs to be done: find any link to a subsection on Church cantata (so beginning "Church cantata#" or "Church_cantata#") and replace all of those with links to the identically named section on the list. Currently Template:Qur'anic people redirects to Template:Characters and names in the Quran but there are still a lot of articles using the old name. Is it possible to use AWB to replace Qur'anic people by in those articles? Marcocapelle ( talk) 17:55, 23 September 2021 (UTC)
I would like some help in tagging all of the categories in Category:Footballers by city or town in Israel for CFD according to the wishes of the nominator in the discussion linked above, as well as adding all tagged categories to the nomination. Procedurally, the CFD is a trainwreck: Not all of the articles in the scope of the nomination were listed in the CFD, and only a single category in the whole group was tagged. I would like to relist the discussion and make sure that it's properly done. bibliomaniac 1 5 18:29, 24 September 2021 (UTC)

Can someone subst all instances of User:Sdsds/Template/Spaceport poll ? This is an old poll advisory notice from 2007, and shouldn't really be transcluded, as any automated archival bot will miss this since the transclusion command is undated, as the date is inside the transcluded material. Once this is substed, the datestamp will appear on the talk page itself. -- 64.229.90.53 ( talk) 03:18, 20 October 2021 (UTC)

Please bypass the redirect Infinity (audio), replacing it with its target Infinity Systems in wikilinks, so that the redirect can point to the disambiguation page Infinity (disambiguation) without any incoming links. The Wikimedia software has changed resulting in redlinks in notices using Template:Old cfd that I added to Category Talk pages in perhaps the past year. I have been using a type of spacing that is considered to be "wrong" since the day before yesterday, all of a sudden. Could someone use AWB to check all my Category Talk contributions and replace non-breakable spaces (U+00A0 : NO-BREAK SPACE [NBSP]) by "normal" spaces (U+0020 : SPACE [SP]).
For more detailed information see:
User_talk:Marcocapelle#Old_CfD_template.

After
adding the "collapsible option" template to a number of templates, I noticed that the default visibility was not automatically inferred from the template code as I assumed, but had to be manually set/copied into the |default=
parameter. Would it be possible to go through these pages again and add the parameter by copying it from {}
in the template code (they don't appear to coincide between the templates, but this should be beside the point of this discussion)? ~~~~

collapsible option
template, one will now have to replace
to correct this error. Was I that unclear? Look, I literally said that the content of the |default=
parameter should be taken from {}
in the template code and explicitly that these are not the same between all the templates. You just added |default=expanded
everywhere, even though templates like and (and probably the majority of this set) use the "collapsed
" option. ~~~~Hi! I would like to search the source of an article and capture something of the form qid\s*\=\s*(Q\d+) and then use this to replace Authority control with but I'm not sure if it's possible to use the capture in this way. Can anyone help? Thanks — Martin ( MSGJ · talk) 20:51, 20 November 2021 (UTC)
(\| *qid *\= *)(Q\d+)(.*?)\{\{authority control\}\}
→ $1$2$3
with the Regex and SingleLine boxes checked. However, if you click "Edit source" in Wikipedia on
Coquet Island or
Fanad, there's an error message at the bottom of the page stating Preview warning: Page using
Template:Authority control with "extralist", please move this to Wikidata if possible. Hope this helps, and happy editing!

The auto-generated summary is useless in this case because it is basically replacing the whole page with a slightly different version of the whole page and it obviously can't fit that into the edit summary. A large number of links to the Inside Soap Awards currently lack italicisation in them; Inside Soap needs to be italicised using piping per MOS:ITALICS since it's a magazine/journal; would this be a change possible for an AWB user to perform? – DarkGlow • 20:56, 23 November 2021 (UTC)

The CFD seems headed for a SNOW keep. In any case, it was previously deleted a while ago, but nobody bothered to repopulate it. I'm not sure if this will cover all pages, but if you add Category:Wicket-keepers to every page in this series of 544 edits (where it is not already, there might be a few which were restored), that would be nice.
Thanks!

It doesn't seem too difficult prima facie; I've tried regex to the effect of replacing:
{| align="center" border="2" cellpadding="4" cellspacing="0" style="float:right; margin: 1em 1em 1em 0; border: 1px #aaa solid; border-collapse: collapse; font-size: 95%;" |+ Presidential election resultsX |- bgcolor=lightgrey ! Year ! Republican ! Democratic ! Third parties |-
with
{{PresHead|place={}|whig=y|source1=X}} <!-- PresRow should be -->
Things might be tricky with varying numbers of sources, but the code of PresHead is probably such that multiple sources can be concatenated in the |source1=
parameter even if that's not technically good practice.
