I will move the article back to the same image slot if the issue is resolved soon. I disagree with Spicy, but I only moved the nomination because of the tag. SL93 ( talk) 00:55, 2 June 2022 (UTC)

@ SL93: It is a lot of work to get an artist to not only give up their rights to an image, but then also share it themselves. They usually tell me they have no account and I have to hand hold. The tag is one editor's bad guess. Bruxton ( talk) 00:58, 2 June 2022 (UTC)
I hope that someone else comes along to help. I'm terrible at arguing about copyright and my arguments haven't been ending well lately. SL93 ( talk) 01:00, 2 June 2022 (UTC)
@ SL93: I tell the artists that if they upload their own image, it is the only way to have the copyright be bulletproof. I have to teach them about the FOP for 3d in the US. I'm sorry to have been the one to lower the boom about Atomitat, but it had to be done. I hope you'll be back soon. E Eng 13:45, 11 June 2022 (UTC)

Just noting that I personally disagree with EEng's assessment in this matter and I stand by my approval of the DYK. The article is properly sourced, and there's no particular reason not to believe the source's assertion that it was the first home to meet the civil defense specifications, we regularly accept that level of sourcing for things like this that aren't of earth shattering importance, at least until there's concrete evidence that the claim isn't true, beyond editors' personal incredulity. WP:Verifiability not truth is the maxim. But hey ho, Wikipedia would be a less interesting place if everyone agreed with each other all the time, and EEng is an esteemed personage in their own right. I hope you don't feel too discouraged by this episode and will be back at DYK in the future, Bruxton.  —  Amakuru ( talk) 14:44, 11 June 2022 (UTC)
I have to push back on that, for the record. We all know that verifiability is the requirement, but verifiability requires reliable sources, and it's our job to judge those sources. This has nothing to do with personal incredulity -- I'm perfectly willing to believe the statement if there's a reliable source for it. But no source is always reliable or always unreliable: per WP:CONTEXTMATTERS, The reliability of a source depends on context. Each source must be carefully weighed to judge whether it is reliable for the statement being made. A small-town newspaper is certainly reliable for the fact that Swayze built the house, and that he claimed it to be the first to meet the [etc etc etc]. But it's harder to believe it's in a position to say that the house actually meets those requirments (absent some third-party authority making that judgment), and completely impossible to believe that it has any way of knowing that no such house had already been built anywhere in the US. Unless the paper says how they know any of this, it's clearly Swayze's puffery or local boosterism.
And while sourcing standards are enhanced for certain situations (e.g. BLP), they're not weakened for stuff that isn't "earth-shattering". This was an easy issue to overlook, but now that it's been joined there's really no question about it. E Eng 02:15, 16 June 2022 (UTC)
@ Amakuru: Thanks for the note! Much love to you for your tireless work and support on this great project. It is probably best I take a break. I should respond to a few pings first. I need to upload an image for an approved DYK, and look at my GA nominations and respond to Leeky's hook suggestions.

New page reviewer granted

Hi Bruxton. Your account has been added to the "New page reviewers" user group. Please check back at WP:PERM in case your user right is time limited or probationary. This user group allows you to review new pages through the Curation system and mark them as patrolled, tag them for maintenance issues, or nominate them for deletion. The list of articles awaiting review is located at the New Pages Feed. New page reviewing is vital to maintaining the integrity of the encyclopedia. If you have not already done so, you must read the tutorial at New Pages Review, the linked guides and essays, and fully understand the deletion policy. If you need any help or want to discuss the process, you are welcome to use the new page reviewer talk page. In addition, please remember:

  • Be nice to new editors. They are usually not aware that they are doing anything wrong. Do make use of the message feature when tagging pages for maintenance so that they are aware.
  • You will frequently be asked by users to explain why their page is being deleted. Please be formal and polite in your approach to them – even if they are not.
  • If you are not sure what to do with a page, don't review it – just leave it for another reviewer.
  • Accuracy is more important than speed. Take your time to patrol each page. Use the message feature to communicate with article creators and offer advice as much as possible.

The reviewer right does not change your status or how you can edit articles. If you no longer want this user right, you also may ask any administrator to remove it for you at any time. In cases of abuse or persistent inaccuracy of reviewing, or long-term inactivity, the right may be withdrawn at administrator discretion. Arbitrarily0 ( talk) 05:52, 19 June 2022 (UTC)

New Page Patrol newsletter June 2022

New Page Review queue June 2022

Hello Bruxton/Archives/2022,

Backlog status

At the time of the last newsletter (No.27, May 2022), the backlog was approaching 16,000, having shot up rapidly from 6,000 over the prior two months. The attention the newsletter brought to the backlog sparked a flurry of activity. There was new discussion on process improvements, efforts to invite new editors to participate in NPP increased and more editors requested the NPP user right so they could help, and most importantly, the number of reviews picked up and the backlog decreased, dipping below 14,000 [a] at the end of May.

Since then, the news has not been so good. The backlog is basically flat, hovering around 14,200. I wish I could report the number of reviews done and the number of new articles added to the queue. But the available statistics we have are woefully inadequate. The only real number we have is the net queue size. [b]

In the last 30 days, the top 100 reviewers have all made more than 16 patrols (up from 8 last month), and about 70 have averaged one review a day (up from 50 last month).

While there are more people doing more reviews, many of the ~730 with the NPP right are doing little. Most of the reviews are being done by the top 50 or 100 reviewers. They need your help. We appreciate every review done, but please aim to do one a day (on average, or 30 a month).

Backlog drive

A backlog reduction drive, coordinated by buidhe and Zippybonzo, will be held from July 1 to July 31. Sign up here. Barnstars will be awarded.

TIP – New school articles

Many new articles on schools are being created by new users in developing and/or non-English-speaking countries. The authors are probably not even aware of Wikipedia's projects and policy pages. WP:WPSCH/AG has some excellent advice and resources specifically written for these users. Reviewers could consider providing such first-time article creators with a link to it while also mentioning that not all schools pass the GNG and that elementary schools are almost certainly not notable.

Misc

There is a new template available, {{ NPP backlog}}, to show the current backlog. You can place it on your user or talk page as a reminder:

Very high unreviewed pages backlog: 15162 articles, as of 14:00, 29 April 2024 (UTC), according to DatBot

There has been significant discussion at WP:VPP recently on NPP-related matters (Draftification, Deletion, Notability, Verifiability, Burden). Proposals that would somewhat ease the burden on NPP aren't gaining much traction, although there are suggestions that the role of NPP be fundamentally changed to focus only on major CSD-type issues.

Reminders
  • Consider staying informed on project issues by putting the project discussion page on your watchlist.
  • If you have noticed a user with a good understanding of Wikipedia notability and deletion, suggest they help the effort by placing {{subst:NPR invite}} on their talk page.
  • If you are no longer very active on Wikipedia or you no longer wish to be part of the New Page Reviewer user group, please consider asking any admin to remove you from the list. This will enable NPP to have a better overview of its performance and what improvements need to be made to the process and its software.
  • To opt-out of future mailings, please remove yourself here.
Notes
  1. ^ not including another ~6,000 redirects
  2. ^ The number of weekly reviews reported in the NPP feed includes redirects, which are not included in the backlog we primarily track.

Listen

I looked at the Heortology article, and copy-edited a bit.
