Happy New Year and Happy New WikiCup! The 2022 competition has just begun and all article creators, expanders, improvers and reviewers are welcome to take part. Even if you are a novice editor you should be able to advance to at least the second round, improving your editing skills as you go. If you have already signed up, your submissions page can be found here. If you have not yet signed up, you can add your name here and the judges will set up your submissions page. Any questions on the rules or on anything else should be directed to one of the judges, or posted to the WikiCup talk page. Signups will close at the end of January, and the first round will end on 26 February; the 64 highest scorers at that time will move on to round 2. The judges for the WikiCup this year are: Sturmvogel 66 ( talk · contribs · email) and Cwmhiraeth ( talk · contribs · email). Good luck! MediaWiki message delivery ( talk) 14:36, 5 January 2022 (UTC)

Hello. I work for Brookfield Properties, the company that owns MetroTech Center. I noticed that you are an active editor, a participant in wiki projects NYC, and have an interest in NYC buildings and landmarks. There has been a recent rebrand of the MetroTech campus, as indicated by the website and will be announced soon. The new name is Brooklyn Commons at Metrotech. Would you agree that WP:NAMECHANGES allows for the article name to be changed at this time? I am grateful for your insight and assistance. Thank you. Tgreenidge ( talk) 15:10, 5 January 2022 (UTC)
If the reliable sources written after the change is announced routinely use the new name, Wikipedia should follow suit and change relevant titles to match. If, on the other hand, reliable sources written after the name change is announced continue to use the established name, Wikipedia should continue to do so as well.I expect that reliable sources will refer to Brooklyn Commons at Metrotech by its new name, but it may take some time for sources to commonly refer to the new name. Therefore, I would advise to wait until the renaming is officially announced. I have no objection to moving the article, but the Wikipedia policy says that
we give extra weight to independent, reliable English-language sources ("reliable sources") written after the name change, so I think it is prudent to wait for reliable secondary sources (like newspapers) to report the renaming. – Epicgenius ( talk) 15:24, 5 January 2022 (UTC)

Hi, I am reviewing an article Late Visitors to Pompeiifor DYK and one image in the article is a Panorama in Italy. I remembered you saying there is no freedom of panorama in Italy. So I wanted to get your opinion. I do not have enough experience in commons. Bruxton ( talk) 17:09, 13 January 2022 (UTC)
"Copyright protection expires 70 years after the death of the original author (who is defined as the creator or designer) here. On January 1st of the following year (ie. January 1 of the 71st Year), freely licensed images of the author's 3D works such as sculptures, buildings, bridges or monuments are now free and can be uploaded to Wikimedia Commons. The lack of Freedom of Panorama is no longer relevant here for states with no formal FOP since the author's works are now copyright free."However, if this is a cultural heritage monument, the template c:Template:Italy-MiBAC-disclaimer should be placed on the file description page. The Italian government places some restrictions (not related to copyright) on distribution of images of cultural heritage monuments.Notably, the United States does have freedom of panorama, so such images are acceptable to upload to the English Wikipedia even if the building were in copyright. Since it's out of copyright both in Italy and the US, the Commons image is fine. – Epicgenius ( talk) 17:31, 13 January 2022 (UTC)

Hi Epicgenius, I'm working with an initiative called WP:URFA/2020, which reviews FAs that were promoted pre-2016 to ensure that they still meet the FA criteria. As I was scrolling through the list, I saw two articles on buildings in New York and thought that you would be an excellent reviewer for them. Would you be willing to take a look, and maybe add information to the article from the sources at your disposal? If they meet the FA criteria, can you mark them as "Satisfactory" at WP:URFA/2020A, and if not can you notice them? The articles are 7 World Trade Center and Construction of the World Trade Center. Thank you today for New York Stock Exchange Building, "about the home of the New York Stock Exchange, the world's largest stock exchange. It was built in the 1900s as a replacement for an older building, and then it was expanded several times in the 20th century. Its main facade, a colonnade supporting a giant pediment, is actually the NYSE icon, and the exchange building has become a famous tourist destination. Funnily the NYSE initially opposed official NYC landmark protection for the building for close to two decades. Happy New Year and Happy New WikiCup! The 2022 competition has just begun and all article creators, expanders, improvers and reviewers are welcome to take part. Any questions on the rules or on anything else should be directed to one of the judges, or posted to the WikiCup talk page.

Even more funnily, the building did not have a standalone page until this year, despite being pictured in a myriad of literature about Wall Street, which isn't even where the main address of this building is located."! - Happy new year! -- Gerda Arendt ( talk) 08:28, 24 January 2022 (UTC)
