Your DYK hook about "noted controversialist" Mary Aldis and her opposition to firing a woman from a cannon received 10,269 page views (856 per hour) while on the Main Page. It is the one of most viewed hooks during the month of February and has thus earned a place on the February stats list. Keep up the great work! Cbl62 ( talk) 17:06, 11 February 2021 (UTC)

Hey Ms Dr Thneed - your Wiki-work is admirable. I do hope it will endure - For how long will there be interested parties to study it, despite the collapsing of our unsustainable culture? (Am I overly pessimistic??)
I'm a nephew of Paddy Bassett (and of Mary who married Robin Williams, Bridget's parents). Paddy encouraged me to apply my physics training to biology which became the field of study for my career in science research. Now retired. Hi @[[User:DrThneed|DrThneed], Thank you for your hard work to write Wikipedia pages for Kiwi women in science. I noticed that you updated the Wikipedia page about me to include a reference to my PhD thesis. Thank you - that is really helpful. In the same edit, I notice that you added my deadname (Isuru) to the top of the text. This was pointed out to me by a colleague who did some work to help me with my personal info online. I frequently receive hate mail from those who take exception to my work on gender, race & LGBTQ+ inclusion and equity in science. Lately, I have received messages and threats of spreading my deadname amongst my work colleagues. I want to reach out to you to point out that I changed my name legally via NZ DIA to Izzy in 2018. So, including my deadname is no longer accurate. My Alma Mater, University of Auckland has refused to update their records on my qualifications unless I bring the evidence of my ID to them in person - something that I cannot easily do because I currently reside in the U.K. Can I please ask that you correct the record on Wikipedia to reflect my current legal name? Thank you for your understanding.

In July 2015 around 15.5% of the English Wikipedia's biographies were about women. As of July 2023, 19.61% of the English Wikipedia's biographies are about women. That's a lot of biographies created in the effort to close the gender gap. Happy 8th Anniversary! Join us for some virtual cake and add comments or memories and please keep on editing to close the gap! |

Hiya, I'm just letting you know I'm not sure that we can be confident Cameron will be elected. His 54-vote margin will almost certainly be eroded when special votes are counted; last election a 700+ margin was overturned. I think we should keep his bio in projectspace until we're confident about the results. J947 † edits 10:24, 14 October 2023 (UTC)

Thinking about your summer break? Think about joining other Wikipedians and Wikimedians in Golden Bay / Mohua! Details are on the meetup page. There's heaps of interesting stuff to work on e.g. the oldest extant waka or New Zealand's oldest ongoing legal case. Or you may spend your time taking photos and then upload them.
Golden Bay is hard to get to and the airline flying into Tākaka uses small planes, so we are holding some seats from and to Wellington and we are offering attendees a $200 travel subsidy to help with costs.

An article you recently created,
Francisco Hernandez (politician), is not suitable as written to remain published. It needs more citations from
reliable,
independent sources.
User:Villian Factman saw fit to publish the article, erroneously stating that Hernandez is an MP having succeeded Shaw. (
?) Information that can't be referenced should be removed (
verifiability is of
central importance on Wikipedia). I've moved your draft to
draftspace (with a prefix of "Draft:
" before the article title) where you can incubate the article with minimal disruption. When you feel the article meets Wikipedia's
general notability guideline and thus is ready for mainspace, please click on the "Submit your draft for review!" button at the top of the page.

Kia ora, I hope you might be able to assist me. I have created a Wikidata item for a book Christchurch - Swamp to City. Christchurch - Swamp to City (Q125768136) It was written by Dr John Wilson, a Christchurch historian who appears to be notable. I expected to find a Wikipedia article or at least a Wikidata item about John Wilson. I tried a query in Wikidata, but so far my search has been unsuccessful. It doesn't help that there are a great many people in Wikidata called John Wilson. Because he is (or has been) an author and academic, I wondered if he had come up in the NZ thesis project. Here is a link to a webpage containing some information about him. [1] This source indicates he was born in 1943 [2]. Since you are so much better at these things than me, could you please have a quick search ? Many thanks, Marshelec ( talk) 09:27, 4 May 2024 (UTC)

Hi Tamsin! Do you know if there's a best practice way to use the 'named after' property on Wikidata? I have a hill, Coronation Peak, likely named after the Coronation of Elizabeth II. Would it be better to point to the coronation event (Q3797766) or the person herself (Q9682)? I could see being more specific as something potentially detrimental (e.g. Coronation Peak wouldn't come up in a query of locations named after Elizabeth II). -- Prosperosity ( talk) 22:39, 4 May 2024 (UTC)

Hi DrThneed, this is a simple one. Please guide me in creating a new Wikidata item for this report: [3] My main question is: what the most appropriate choice for: Instance of ??. As a secondary question, what label/ title would you suggest. The reason for asking is that there is a recommended citation on the page after the cover, including a title, but this is not what is on the front page, so I am left a bit confused. Any help would be most appreciated. Thanks :) Marshelec ( talk) 05:10, 12 May 2024 (UTC)

Anything to add? Please share! :)
Please don't add any categories to your sandbox pages while they're in sandbox. Even if you're moving the page from your sandbox into mainspace, you still have to do the page move first and then add categories to it second, not vice versa, because if you do it the other way around it leaves a phantom redirect from the former userspace title sitting in the category despite its status as a redirect — if you look at this search, for example, there are 13 of your sandbox titles sitting there when there should be zero, and they're all there specifically because you added categories to the pages before moving them into mainspace instead of after.
They need to not be there, however, because it actively interferes with the important maintenance job of removing inappropriate categories from pages that are still in userspace — but the only way for me to clean them up now would be to move all the pages back to the userspace titles, disable the categories, wait until the titles finally drop from the search results (which could be up to an hour), and then move them back into mainspace again, which is not something I'm particularly keen on doing.
So in future, please do not add any categories to the pages so long as they're still in userspace. Move them to mainspace first, and then add the categories second. Thanks. Bearcat ( talk) 14:59, 23 June 2024 (UTC)

Hiya, I'm just letting you know I'm not sure that we can be confident Cameron will be elected.

On 22 February 2024, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article Carol Mutch, which you recently created, substantially expanded, or brought to good article status. The fact was ... that Dr. Disaster's office collapsed in an earthquake on this day in 2011? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/Carol Mutch. You are welcome to check how many pageviews the nominated article or articles got while on the front page ( here's how, Carol Mutch), and the hook may be added to the statistics page after its run on the Main Page has completed. Finally, if you know of an interesting fact from another recently created article, then please feel free to suggest it on the Did you know talk page.
