Hey, just read the Communication subpage you created, and I just wanted to say it is absolutely fantastic! Very appropriate and truly accurate. I really hope others (both new here and "old-timers") will find and read that essay. If nothing similar exists in terms of Wiki essays (and I don't immediately see anything), I may have to get you to prettify it, move it to the Wikipedia: space and place it in Category:Wikipedia essays. — Huntster ( t • @ • c) 10:58, 22 December 2008 (UTC)

You qualify; you obviously aren't a die-hard Symantec supporter; you just used their products a little in the 90s because you had too, right? And you didn't make that many changes to the article. Norton Internet Security MAC ed. The only reason this article could fail GA is because of the MAC section. Can you help expand that particular section; I'm deaf to the article's shortcomings after my hundreds of edits. TechOutsider ( talk) 02:51, 28 February 2009 (UTC)TechOutsider

Fail Talk:Norton_Internet_Security/GA2. Everything was good except for fact NAV was to be merged into the NIS article! Argh! I'm really going to have trouble diff. between the two since their feature set changes each year. TechOutsider ( talk) 05:35, 28 February 2009 (UTC)TechOutsider
256/512 MB RAM needed; where the first # applies to NAV and the second # goes for NIS? I replied on my talk page. I notice that you're planning this article on Heidelberg Raceway. I'd love to help! It was one of the original NASCAR tracks for Strictly Stock's (now Sprint Cup) first season! Of course I have lots of sources for a track that important. I'd expect it to be an easy WP:DYK. Royal broil 05:11, 1 March 2009 (UTC)
I guess I accidentally didn't save my reply yesterday. About the AK article - go for it! As far as I'm concerned it's not complete. Of course, what article is truly complete! There were several statements that I had to remove because I couldn't source them. If you want to meet up at Slinger, email me by hitting "Email this user" on my userpage. Their season runs from early May until around the first weekend of September. Maybe you could shoot a picture of whatever exists where Heidelberg used to be.
I've copyedited the Tim Richmond article to my satisfaction. The next step is to get a few people to proofread it. Here is where it pays to have Wikifriends. It's good to have at least one person who is very knowledgeable about the topic. I'm hoping that you would be this person. It's good to have someone who is real good at English proofreading to review it. It's best if they don't understand the topic so they have no preconceptions to get in the way. I have a friend at WikiProject Wisconsin who I'll ask. Depending on how this goes, I might nominate it for GA. I'll keep you informed. One of the criteria for GA is that the article is stable. That means that there should be some time for anyone to edit the article and there cannot be any edit warring. Fortunately, it takes several days or up to a few weeks for someone to review it. Also, it's expected (and good karma) for a nominator to review another article which needs reviewing against the GA criteria. I like picking one that's ahead of mine on my list. Royal broil 02:25, 3 March 2009 (UTC)
For the opening statement, I was looking for help @ the Moz. FF article. Very interesting. FF mentions market share. I know that NAV/NIS is the most popular and most used product in the world; however I lack exact numbers. According to Symantec, they protect more people in the world than anyone else. However, I think that statment could be seen as advertisement/promoting Norton and it is too general. And I found it on the box of N360 I brought; I have seen it nowhere else.
So, I'm thinking about incorporating Peter Norton, somehow. However, looking at the Peter Norton article, I cannot find any interesting or notable information. Symantec just decided to use his name. TechOutsider ( talk) 17:25, 1 March 2009 (UTC)TechOutsider

Hi there, I am new to Wikipedia and I'm confused right out of the gate. I posted corrections and additions to the page on Kentucky author Gurney Norman, but someone keeps taking the corrected page down and reposting the previous page. This has happened several times and I'm pretty frustrated. Why is this happening? Many thanks, Spudsparo ( talk) 06:22, 2 March 2009 (UTC)
Sorry to arrive so late, been a bit busy over the past couple of days. I see you've got the articles merged...I see nothing out of the ordinary. As for the rename, so long as noone on the talk page has a problem with it, then you are free to do so. Just give it a few days to see if there are any objections. I trust you'll do fine, but if you want, I'll double check the move when you've finished it. — Huntster ( t • @ • c) 06:58, 2 March 2009 (UTC)
← Thanks for the kind words :) Yeah, I saw where you were working to rescue Shutdown Day. At first I was concerned it was too non-notable, but there appear to be several varied sources within Google News ( link) that you may find useful as refs. Not sure if there needs to be separate subsections for each year...I doubt each iteration is notable enough; and do remember to change all references to inline citations, rather than just hanging in the References section. — Huntster ( t • @ • c) 07:41, 2 March 2009 (UTC)

As promised, I did review what I could here. Again, Edit, I am sorry that you feel dismissed or discredited. My guess is that the constant strain of moderating disputes at WQA has taken an understandable emotional toll on you. Sort of like the wide receiver that goes over the middle for a passing offense - you take a lot of hits, and eventually, you get tired and start to hurt. Looks like a "straw that broke the camel's back" case. Funny how it's always the little things that can be the ones that push things over the top. To be honest though, I really didn't see anything so awful. I've seen roux and Future Imperfect at other places, and although I've never directly interacted with them (as least as far as my feeble memory can recall), I've never seen any indication of rudeness or even a hint of unfriendliness from either one of them. In fact, my perception has always been one that roux has a fantastic sense of humor when the mood calls for it. I honestly doubt that there was any dismissive intent at all, (unless there is some past history that I'm unaware of). The only possible items I can see that could be defined a little more are 1.) Moderator and 2.) Text color
So, in a sense I could see a new user thinking a different text color and title of moderator might be inclined to think there was some sense of authority inferred there - even though I have no doubt that wasn't the intent. So, in conclusion:
Which should I write in? TechOutsider ( talk) 00:53, 7 March 2009 (UTC)TechOutsider

An editor thinks something might be wrong with this page. That editor won't actually make any effort to fix it, but they can rest assured that they've done their encyclopedic duty by sticking a tag on the article. Please allow this tag to languish indefinitely at the top of the page, since nobody knows exactly what the tagging editor was worked up about. |
What do you think about the article in your sandbox? I can't find a list of track champions, but otherwise it looks solid. Thank you very much for your supportive comments on the nomination talk page. Coincidentally, I was just telling a familiar admin, via e-mail, pretty much what you said - that I would take the job itself very seriously, that my behavior would likely pleasantly surprise the naysayers, and that I would be very cautious in the use of admin authority. The naysayers all make good points and fair complaints. You might notice that I have totally backed off from the Obama article. If I had it to do over, I would take someone's advice from last night and do nothing - drop the shields and let them take it over for a day. Or at least leave the defense of the page up to others. It could always be repaired later. That's the thing - you learn something new here every day. Thanks again for your support. :) Baseball Bugs What's up, Doc? 03:04, 10 March 2009 (UTC)

Hi, Ched, welcome to the
Article Rescue Squadron!
We are a growing community of Wikipedia editors dedicated to identifying and rescuing articles that have been tagged for deletion. Every day hundreds of articles are deleted, many rightfully so. But many concern notable subjects and are poorly written, ergo fixable and should not be deleted. We try to help these articles quickly improve and address the concerns of why they are proposed for deletion. This covers a lot of ground and your help is appreciated!
If you have any questions, feel free to ask on the talk page, and we will be happy to help you. And once again - Welcome! -- Banjeboi 21:42, 1 April 2009 (UTC) |

This is regarding this comment: I marked that article as an attack because it contained a list of names and declared them to be "retards". ...for your kind and supportive words. This has been a hard but useful experience (useful experiences often are hard) and whether I ever accept a nomination again or not, I'm willing to address the cautions of the sincere Opposers and try to do better. NASCAR, eh? Well, I'm not much of a racing fan, but I know folks who are fans, and they love it through and through. I sometimes tell people that NASCAR might be the most popular sport in America, and they laugh, but this much I know: In the south, at least, on weekends when there's a racing event, it gets top billing on the sports segment. It's a sport filled with colorful personalities, kind of like pro wrestling except it's for real. :) Baseball Bugs What's up, Doc? 02:06, 14 March 2009 (UTC)
First of all, I invite you to join me at WikiProject NASCAR! The Heidelberg Raceway article is still waiting in the suggestions area - it'll be at least a day before it runs (probably at least 2). This is normal and there's no need for alarm. I reviewed the Rex White article, and it easily meets the 5x expansion already! You should propose it under March 12, the date that expansion began. You don't need to be done to propose it, so I'd do it now. I like the hook with shortest person to win the championship. Made sure you be clear that this is now the Sprint Cup Series, even if you hide that in a Wikilink. Royal broil 05:18, 14 March 2009 (UTC)

As for the 9-11 project, I have the first two hours of coverage (08:31 to 10:36) of the four major networks (ABC//NBC//CBS//FOX) on four DVDs. Again, it's kind of weird watching all of this again after so long, since I was in Korea when it happened, and only picked up on the coverage on CNN after the reports of fire at the Pentagon. What's even weirder is sitting and watching the ABC DVD. It starts out with GMA already in-progress, and it's like being in front of the tv on THAT morning, the picture is just that good...

First of all, thanks for taking the time to look through my contributions and give some feedback. Second I'd like to address admincoachgate. To be perfectly frank, I'd forgotten that particular line in the agreement I made. Of course, "ignorance of the law is no excuse," and this is doubly true when you've actually agreed to something. Self-nomming for the RfA was a lapse a judgment, but I had no idea how strongly the community would respond. As you point out, I essentially broke my word, and that was a mistake. I've considered withdrawing the RfA, and you make a good point that WP:ER may be a better place to go, rather than letting the debacle continue to unfold at my RfA. I imagine this all more or less a moot point, as a bureaucrat will probably close the RfA before too much more time passes unless some unexpected surge of support appears.
While many of the comments on the RfA indicate a condemnation of my decision to run, I'd just like to say that all of my actions were in good faith. I sincerely believe that I would make a good administrator, and that my edit history is sufficient to demonstrate this to the community. It would absolutely have been the best course of action to discuss the matter with KnightLago first, as you point out, but as we all know hindsight is 20/20. My only reason for doing what I did was a genuine desire to help the project, and a frustration with the current administrative backlog. As such, I was acting in the spirit of WP:IAR, and just trying to improve the encyclopedia. It appears, however, that I ignored the wrong rules, and for that I am also sorry. Looking at the FF article, I think it's time that NIS became a GA. The FF article is a little technical, although jargon are wikilinked. Some sections in the FF article are comprised of one or two sentence paragraphs. And they have a long embedded list. TechOutsider ( talk) 13:38, 29 March 2009 (UTC)TechOutsider
Hi Ched. I was reading the GA nomination process and details and found some concerning details. It stated something along the lines of the article must meet requirements set by the wikipjts it applies to. Norton Internet Security for Mac has been around for almost a decade, if not more than a decade. I cannot really find much information though. So, if NIS is rated as GA class, it will only be a GA class article in the WikiPjt Computer Security/Software/Computing categories, not the Mac category?

Coincidentally, I was just telling a familiar admin, via e-mail, pretty much what you said - that I would take the job itself very seriously, that my behavior would likely pleasantly surprise the naysayers, and that I would be very cautious in the use of admin authority. The naysayers all make good points and fair complaints. You might notice that I have totally backed off from the Obama article. If I had it to do over, I would take someone's advice from last night and do nothing - drop the shields and let them take it over for a day. Or at least leave the defense of the page up to others. Please do not tell new users to put big tags in signatures, seen here. It is clearly outlined in WP:SIG that such use of big tags in signatures is disrutpive.— Dæ dαlus Contribs 07:29, 19 March 2009 (UTC)
I see that you have articles in back to back Did You Know queues! The Heidelberg Raceway article should appear at about 10pm Chicago time and the second one for Rex White should appear at about 4am Chicago time. A nominated an image of White's NASCAR car which will be pictured beside your expansion - you got the precious top spot! I uploaded that picture from a flickr friend and I already notified him. I might do the 10pm update (I'll get someone else to credit me for the article). I suggest that you record a list your Did You Know articles - I like how some people keep the hooks. You might want to add {{ User Did You Know2}} to you userpage. I'm very proud to say that I started that template ( diff) to tally my DYK articles and it has achieved widespread usage. Royal broil 00:19, 20 March 2009 (UTC)
Congratulations on your first DYK! I'm happy that I got to promote it, and to work on the article with you. Here's to many more! Royal broil 03:15, 20 March 2009 (UTC)
Hi Ched, just for the record I placed no email addresses in the Royal Confraternity of Sao Teotonio article. I undid vandalism by another who DID include same. Perhaps I missed something? In any case I concur with you absolutely and I wanted you to know that you had the wrong user. I take privacy issues like that seriously and I would never post private emails on article pages. Thanks! Links to real newspapers are generally considered helpful for community articles, so if it appears to be an actual newspaper, please leave it in the EL section. Nyttend ( talk) 05:15, 21 March 2009 (UTC)
No apology necessary, I didn't take it personally. However, as I said in the AFD, I fail to see how she's notable outside of this one event. The event itself is notable, but she isn't. Jauerback dude?/ dude. 12:46, 21 March 2009 (UTC)

Thanks for the good word, Ched! Yeah, I just can't quite bring myself to leave Wiki alone entirely, so I do the occasional "maintenance" edit now and again.
I'll catch ya online again soon! Edit Centric ( talk) 02:04, 23 March 2009 (UTC)
Thank you so much for your help. It is exactly the information I needed. I will begin the dumps asap.

Just wanted to drop a note saying thanks! for telling me about Gimp; it's an awesome photoshopping application and I am using it extensively. I also used it to extract Norton Internet Security's icon. TechOutsider ( talk) 12:22, 28 March 2009 (UTC)TechOutsider

Thanks Ched.
I'd started by using
http://people.fas.harvard.edu/~sdouglas/table.cgi which was fine but maybe I messed up a ′cut&paste′.
Are there other converters/templates & instructions out there for tables on wiki?
