All statistics correct as of 27 April 2024. |
The 2023–24 Ligue 1, also known as Ligue 1 Uber Eats for sponsorship reasons, is the 86th season of the Ligue 1, France's premier football competition. The season began on 11 August 2023 and will conclude on 19 May 2024. The relegation play-off will be played on 30 May and 2 June 2024. [2] Paris Saint-Germain are the two-time defending champions.
A total of eighteen teams are participating in the 2023–24 edition of the Ligue 1. In June 2021, the LFP voted overwhelmingly at its general assembly to contract Ligue 1 back to 18 clubs for the 2023–24 season by relegating four and promoting two from Ligue 2 after 2022–23. [3]
Le Havre and Metz (who return to the top flight after fourteen and one year's absence) were promoted after finishing first and second in the 2022–23 Ligue 2, respectively. Replacing Auxerre, Ajaccio (both relegated after one year in the top flight), Troyes and Angers (relegated two and eight years in the top flight, respectively) were relegated to 2023–24 Ligue 2.
As part of the UEFA Champions League revamped format, starting from this season, four clubs in Ligue 1 qualify, instead of the previous three. The top three teams will qualify for the league stage, and the fourth team will qualify for the third qualifying round.
