2022 Arbitration Committee Elections

WP:ELECTCOM2022

During the 2012 Arbitration Committee Election Request for comment, it was decided by consensus that a three-member Electoral Commission would be created to address issues arising during the Arbitration Committee elections. This decision was reaffirmed in subsequent years and the existence of the Commission is now part of the standard procedure for the annual elections. The Electoral Commission is reconstituted each year for purposes of that year's election.

During the nomination period, editors wishing to volunteer as a Commissioner for 2022 should create a new subsection on this RfC.

During the evaluation period, all editors are encouraged to comment on the suitability of the volunteers for this role.

Three volunteers with the strongest support, determined by consensus based upon comments posted during the evaluation period, will be chosen as Commissioners. Any remaining applicants who have relatively high levels of support may be designated as reserve Commissioners, ranked by order of support, to be called upon if one or more of the the Commissioners are unable to serve. If the consensus is not readily apparent, one or more bureaucrats will help close the discussion.^{(last updated from 2021 RfC)}

The mandate of the Electoral Commission is to deal with any unforeseen problems that may arise in the 2022 Arbitration Committee election process, and to adjudicate any disputes during the election.

In addition, while the Electoral Commission is not responsible for logistics of the election, the Commissioners should also help ensure that preparations for the election—such as setting up the relevant pages, posting notices of the election in the appropriate places, and asking the Office to configure the SecurePoll voting interface—move forward in a timely fashion.

Commissioners and reserve members are not eligible for election to the Arbitration Committee during this year's election. Commissioners must be able and willing to satisfy the requirements of the access to nonpublic information policy.

Per the consensus developed in previous requests for comment, the electoral commission timetable is as follows:

Nominations: Sunday 00:00, 02 October 2022 (UTC) – Saturday 23:59, 08 October 2022 (UTC) (7 days)
Evaluation period: Sunday 00:00, 09 October 2022 (UTC) – Saturday 23:59, 15 October 2022 (UTC) (7 days)
Commission selection: completed by Saturday 00:00, 22 October 2022 (UTC)

I would like to volunteer for this year's election commission. This would be my first time as a commissioner, and I feel that I would be a good candidate. I value honesty and kindness in interactions among editors, I think a lot of context is lost when working on projects with an online community which makes these principles even more important. I'm upfront and honest about my mistakes and work hard to be transparent and to not repeat them, on my user page I have a list of my mistakes I've made here. I'm not perfect but I can promise that if I make a mistake or an improper decision that I will work to correct it and to be as open about why it happened. I'm active in New Page Patrol, am currently trying to revive the Amateur radio WikiProject, and have been authoring articles as part of the Lichen task force. In my professional life I've taken multiple workshops on diversity and inclusion, conflict resolution, and communication skills including a training based on Crucial Conversations. ~~If selected I will absolutely sign the NDA.~~ I have signed the NDA. Hello! I am Dumuzid. Though I have nothing but respect for the foregoing candidates, I would also volunteer to serve on the commission. I began editing Wikipedia sporadically in the late aughts, anonymously. I kept meaning to register an account, and then I finally did--though that account was Kingaelfric; I promptly made one edit reverting some vandalism and then apparently completely forgot all about the account (I only realized it existed when I searched a few weeks ago after having my memory jogged). Then, in early 2015, in the wake of the Gamergate tsuris, I registered this account and began editing more consistently. Eventually, the 500/30 restriction was brought in, which I quite appreciated: I had to go about doing some editing and learning the nuances of Wikipedia, which I think I have done to a decent degree. Since that time, I have generally just tried to be a force for good where I can, making changes where appropriate and doing my best to mediate disagreements when possible. Oliver Wendell Holmes Jr. famously described FDR as a "second-rate intellect, but a first-rate temperament." I'm no FDR, but I like to think I'm of average smarts and slightly above average decency. My oft-repeated motto is that reasonable minds can differ, and it's something I try to take to heart. Should I be appointed, I will do my level best to be considerate and sensitive to different views in any decision I am called upon to make. I am AmandaNP, an editor for over 13 years. Over that time, I have held many elected and appointed roles and have always tried to stand as a voice of reason on issues. My most recent work includes the SFR Bureaucrat Chat. As someone else pointed out, there is usually one hot topic that is dealt with per year, and that topic needs to be handled the right way. I would like to stand in order to make sure that that decision goes the right way.

I decided to throw my name in the hat as their seems to be a lack of time-tested editors (though consensus processes). Do I want to throw my name in that hat by default, no. Do I volunteer when the community has a need, yes. I'm also hoping that votes aren't obtained for me though canvassing, like has been suggested at other venues. Hi, I'm Mz7. I've been an administrator since 2017 and a checkuser and oversighter since 2019. I served on the Electoral Commission both last year (2021) and the year before (2020), so I am familiar with the role. In the past few years, the Electoral Commission has been required to answer several questions related to unexpected issues that arose during the election. I expect this year's commission to have to resolve similarly unexpected issues, and I believe that my previous experience would be helpful in that effort. Hello everyone, xaosflux here. I've been an admin since 2006, and a 'crat since 2016. As a current oversighter, I have already signed on to the nonpublic information policy. I volunteered as an ACE election coordinator in the 2018 through 2021 seasons. I have been working on ACE2022 as a coordinator already, and will continue regardless of the results here. The WP:ACERULES have become quite mature, however there are still situations that arise where fast, fair decisions are needed to ensure that the election proceeds successfully - and I believe that I would be of benefit to the commission.
