The following discussion is an archived debate of the proposed deletion of the miscellaneous page below. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made on the appropriate discussion page (such as the page's talk page or in a deletion review). No further edits should be made to this page.

The result of the discussion was: procedural close. This is the wrong venue. It appears that the request is to delete the special page Special:WantedPages, which admins can't do. Suggestions for changes to the special page, including its possible removal, should be discussed at WP:VPT (I think; WP:AN might also be suitable). If the intent was to discuss the redirect Wikipedia:Special:WantedPages then it should be listed at WP:RFD, though a smart kitten is correct that these pages exist for their paired talk pages since there is no Special talk: namespace. Mostly crap that shouldn't be recreated. Mach61 22:37, 26 March 2024 (UTC) reply

If this is undeletable could we at least remove it from the top of Special:MyContributions? Mach61 22:42, 26 March 2024 (UTC) reply
  • Keep – huh? It's just a standard soft redirect. It doesn't appear on the top of the standard contributions page; you must have some unusual script or setting putting it there. Graham87 ( talk) 04:51, 27 March 2024 (UTC) reply
For me, when I open Special:MyContributions, in between the title "New contribution" at the top and "User contributions for Mach61" below it, there is a horizontal bar with three buttons on it. The leftmost button says "New page" and links to Special:WantedPages Mach61 12:51, 27 March 2024 (UTC) reply
  • Would say delete Wikipedia:Special:WantedPages if there were no transclusions, but there's more than 50. I think the admin dashboard is linking to this soft redirect. I'll look into changing that when I'm back at a PC. This Wikipedia:Special:X type of soft redirect is not ideal. I think it goes without saying that the special page itself ( Special:WantedPages) is undeletable, so that cannot really be discussed here. – Novem Linguae ( talk) 05:36, 27 March 2024 (UTC) reply
Perhaps Wikipedia:Special:WantedPages is in the admin dashboard because of this MFD, and the 100ish links to the page are only temporary. – Novem Linguae ( talk) 07:41, 27 March 2024 (UTC) reply
AFAIK, special pages are discussed at (e.g.) Wikipedia talk:Special:WantedPages, due to the absence of a Special talk: namespace or similar. While I haven’t looked into the history (and so could be completely wrong), my assumption is that these soft redirects therefore exist to prevent orphaned talk pages. (FWIW, I read this nomination as wanting to nominate the special page itself for deletion - @ Mach61, given @ Novem Linguae’s note, please could you clarify whether this nomination is for the soft-redirect or for the special page itself?) All the best. ‍—‍ a smart kitten[ meow 08:40, 27 March 2024 (UTC) reply
Ah I see. That makes sense. Some quick spot checks reveal other special pages also have these soft redirects, such as Wikipedia:Special:SpecialPages and Wikipedia:Special:ShortPages. Since it appears to be a custom that every special page gets a Wikipedia:Special:X page for talk page purposes, then I am a firm keep. There's a system here. Let's not break it. – Novem Linguae ( talk) 08:50, 27 March 2024 (UTC) reply
  • Comment: I don't want to delete the redirect per se, I want to delete the underlying special page or failing that reduceits prominence. If both of those things are impossible, or you think using MfD for something that requires a phabricator ticket is abuse of process, feel free to close this. Mach61 12:51, 27 March 2024 (UTC) reply
  • Speedy keep per the discussion above between A smart kitten and Novem Linguae explaining how the nomination is completely erroneous, and the special page can't be deleted.— Alalch E. 15:15, 27 March 2024 (UTC) reply
