Both these redirects should point to the same target. "Niter" was the target for both for several years, but "Saltpeter" was changed to point to "Potassium nitrate" on 10 March 2022. "Potassium nitrate" is probably the better target, but I think the issue should be discussed first.

- Retarget to
Potassium nitrate: Per above it is the most appropriate target. As well, either
Saltpeter or
Saltpetre should be tagged as an {{
R avoided double redirect}} to keep the two in sync. I don't care which is considered to be the primary spelling, but per pageviews it sees Saltpeter is more used.

- On the spelling, it's just a
WP:ENGVAR issue - the "re" is more common in the UK, the "er" is universal in America. The "re" is the older spelling, but I'm not sure if that makes it primary.

- Weak retarget to
Dolphin (emulator). I could see this being a plausible search term for the emulator. However the emulator isn't really an OS (I mean, technically it's running the Wii and Gamecube's OS, hence why it's an emulator) in itself, hence why it's a weak retarget. ―

- Keep. The OS that runs on the GameCube is, as far as I know and a quick-ish google search confirms, generally called Dolphin OS. The word "Dolphin" is said multiple times at the target and it seems likely that both a mention of the OS could be added and there's no way we'd want a standalone article for it.

- Delete. The length of a redirect doesn't matter if it is mentioned in the target article and properly identified as an alternative title or a subtopic of the target article's subject. But therein lies the issue with this redirect: The redirect is not mentioned in the target article anywhere.
Steel1943 (

reply
- To expand on my delete comment: If the redirect is not a synonym or a spelling variation of the target article's subject, it can be considered misleading since the subject of the redirect is not technically present in the target article. In this case, the redirect is a subtopic of the target article's subject with the redirect currently not being mentioned in the target article. Without mention, readers may have no idea why this redirect led them to the target article, causing confusion.

- Strongly oppose disambiguation (or at least strong enough to ask for this to be relisted, thanks Jay!). This is a perfect example of something that is "theoretically ambiguous" but not actually ambiguous in practice. Does
Pizzaplayer219 or anyone else have any evidence of The Flash being referred to as the "Fastest thing alive"? 'Man' and 'thing' are not synonymous. Same goes for animals; it is not plausible for someone to search 'thing' looking for 'animal'. It may be plausible for someone to search
Fastest animal alive (curious that it's red, it looks like no one has found the phrase useful enough to create a redirect yet!), but even then it's a bit redundant to include "alive" because I doubt they're specifically wanting to exclude dinosaurs or something of the like. --
Tavix (

- Point taken regarding The Flash, but I still believe disambiguation is appropriate, as it is completely plausible with this capitalization for a user to be seeking content regarding the fastest animals (=alive things that move) rather than Sonic or the theme song (which it appears is not officially titled "(The) Fastest Thing Alive" but is referred to as such given the lyrics). After all, Sonic is a fictional animal. Regarding Jay's point as it being a nickname for Sonic and not necessarily a reference to the song,
Sonic the Hedgehog (character) currently does not mention it, so for now it's best to just link to the TV series.

- Even if that is a plausible mistake, disambiguation pages don't have entries for misnomers, that would at best be a "see also". I also don't think the Fastest organisms RfD is comparable. "Fastest organisms" is a plausible search term for someone looking for animals, and you will find the fastest organism there because the fastest organism is an animal. "Thing" is a much broader set; adding "alive" does narrow it, but also makes it implausible for someone looking for real animals. In my opinion, "thing" in this context evokes a fictional character. --
Tavix (

- I like Mdewman6's analogy of animals = alive things that move. Unless someone can show that "thing alive" may only refer to fictional characters, I think it is plausible to include animals.
