Lately, the images on the List of characters in Tenjho Tenge are trying to be removed by Hammersoft. Hammersoft is on a personal crusade to remove fair use images. (see the users talk page and even the Admin. noticeboard). The user is trying to claim it violates the WP:NFC, but I made good effort trying to make sure that these images had good fair use rationals. The violation according to Hammersoft is that non-free images can't be used in lists. On this point Hammersoft is correct, but the naming of the article is only that way because it follows Manual of Style (anime- and manga-related articles). I don't believe that the wording of the WP:NFC are not meant for these types of articles, which are basically stub character articles (one or two paragraphs per character) on a single page. I believe what the list the WP:NFC is revering to is the list as seen at WP:LIST#List_styles. If I could get your outside opinion that would be great. Editing to make interesting fiction articles is becoming impossible. I starting to feel that all fictional articles on wiki will read like a computer manual, in that they will contain only the technical information. Fiction editors are getting boxed in at every angle. You can barely use fair-images now and I foresee that too will become non-existent in the future (like the other wiki languages). Most fiction is copyrighted, so their are no public domain images to use. Then their is writing in a Real-world perspective per WP:WAF. Sure you can do to it for the main article, but forget any character articles unless that character has different authors over a time span.(Look at all character examples on WP:WAF. Then more then likely some editor will claim that the article violates WP:Plot or it doesn't have secondary sources. Someone can't write their opinion because it is original research, but if they write the same opinion somewhere else and another person cites it then it is fine. As you may know, Wikipedia:WikiProject Disaster management came up with entirely reasonable guidelines for naming articles about earthquakes, fires, typhoons, etc. However, the <<year>><<place> <<event>> format leaves no opportunity for conventional nengō which have been used in Japan since the eighth century (701-1945) -- as in "the Great Fire of Meireki" (1657) or for "the Hōei eruption of Mount Fuji" (1707).

In a purely intellectual sense, I do look forward to discovering how this exchange of views will develop; but I also have an ulterior motive. I hope to learn something about how better to argue in favor of a non-standard exception to conventional, consensus-driven, and ordinarily helpful wiki-standards such as this one. In my view, there does need to be some modest variation in the conventional paradigms for historical terms which have evolved in non-Western cultures -- no less in Wikipedia than elsewhere. I'm persuaded that, at least in the context of Japanese history before the reign of Emperor Meiji (1868-1912), some non-standard variations seem essential; but I'm not sure how best to present my reasoning to those who don't already agree with me. I know these first steps are inevitably awkward; but there you have it.

The case here is that you can infer the information from the primary source - the anime itself. Listen to the various characters, such as Byakuya Kuchiki and Soifon, pronounce her name. I believe the official databook transliterates it as Sihoin, but it shouldn't be taken seriously all the time, because of its seemingly random and inconsistent transliterations (e.g. Toushiro). That being said, if I have something to say on any subject, I say so in an article somewhere and I sign my name to it. Whatever small edits I have done here and there, I also sign my name. I was, thus, wondering if within your high-tech level of WP knowledge, you may be able to tell which computer the LAUSD comments came from? I have never discussed my password with anyone at all, in fact, I have since the incident changed my password. I am, however, concerned that someone with a high level of computer sophistication may be watching me closely and hacking my password at whim. Two workers are suing the nation's second-largest school district, claiming they were underpaid because of a faulty payroll system.

Elizabeth Forsberg, a teacher, and Dawn Amenta, an aide, at a San Fernando Valley high school alleged the Los Angeles Unified School District violated state labor laws by not paying them for all the hours they worked, according to a lawsuit filed Tuesday in Superior Court.

The suit is seeking class-action status.

The plaintiffs said they began receiving "improper payment" in their paychecks starting last February, when the district began using a computerized payroll system.

The problems persisted throughout the year, they contend, with thousands of employees being underpaid or overpaid.

In November, the district sent out a letter to 36,000 workers — most of them teachers — claiming they had been overpaid during the year and giving them until Dec. 10 to choose whether to repay all or some of what the district said they owe. In all, the district claims it overpaid $53 million.

The district also pledged to repay about 7,000 employees who were underpaid by $7 million.

But Forsberg and Amenta claimed the district did not respond within 45 days to their claims to recoup pay they were shorted.

The district "failed to properly pay wages when due, made false claims for the recovery of alleged overpayments, and attempted to improperly recoup such payments," the lawsuit said.

The lawsuit seeks general and punitive damages, including unpaid wages plus interest. It also names Deloitte Consulting, the district's payroll contractor, as a defendant.

Well, I actually haven't seen the finale (I watched the fansubbed anime…my group had only gotten to 32 by the time the cease-and-desist went out, and the series just is so wordy that I find reading the manga a terrible chore), I guess I was just sticking to what was already on the page? The situation with Betacommand and Hammersoft is getting out of hand. My first involvement with started when List of characters in Tenjho Tenge images were removed. First of all, I did not appreciate gorilla tactics used by Hammersoft and most recently Betacommand. They never gave forewarning and they don't like to discuss the problems unless their actions are undone. I clearly told Hammersoft that the policy was not as black and white as (s)he sees it and I wanted it to be clearly spelled out before they took these actions. Which to Hammersoft's credit, tried. However editors couldn't come to any agreement on how to modify this guideline so it still grey. Then yesterday Grimjaw noticed these edits and got somewhat hot headed about this since most of the images are ones he uploaded. After he calmed down, we tried using group images since we thought that most of the trouble was coming from the individual images of characters. This way the article uses less non-free images. Betacommand revered these changes because (s)he says something about images can not be on list. I say the only reason it is names that way is because of the naming convention set at WP:MOS-AM. The article easily could be renamed Characters of Tenjho Tenge and then using images would be fine. These List of character in (blank) are do not look the same as the list that are examples at WP:List. These are stub articles that are in one article. They are not one sentence per character but are paragraphs. Another action that I frown on is both Betacommand and Hammersoft use of alternate accounts. Betacommand I know for sure does this (the alternate account is User:Betacommand2 and is even discussed by him/her here) and Hammersoft I have long suspected of being one. Much of this stems from this message. When I pressed Hammersoft to reveal if it was in fact an alternate account, Hammersoft avoided me stating he/she did not want their privacy violated (see here). Hammersoft also has a habit of clearing their user and talk pages when this things are discussed. Perhaps I could have better expressed my concerns. It seems to me that the point you raise on my talk page could be applied to all subjects covered by VG Cats. VG Cats' notability and popularity as a webcomic hardly implies that it is a reputable source of criticism, and I don't think it would make sense to mention criticisms of, say, N-Gage, or the PSP, in their respective articles. It would probably be even more of a stretch to argue that a video game-themed webcomic's critique of an attorney, rather than a video game, is so relevant that it should be mentioned in an encyclopedia article about the attorney.

Beyond this concern is that of whether such a mention of Thompson merits the creation of an entire section labeled "Criticism." To create a section in the article creates a mention of the section in the article's table of contents; it hardly seems neutral or balanced to have entire sections about Thompson's activism and legal career that are very, very well-sourced placed on equal standing with a section noting that a webcomic used Thompson as a subject of parody. Also, to characterize VG Cats' portrayal of Thompson as criticism would also seem to elevate the webcomic's portrayal of any subject in a negative light as criticism. I think it would be a mistake to assume that each comic created by Scott Ramsoomair accurately represents his views on the comic's subject. Perhaps the webcomic is widely-read, has an Alexa rating of 3,324, and provides Ramsoomair with income and opportunities for convention appearances because his writing is meant as humor and targeted towards a specific demographic. Even if the comic accurately reflects Ramsoomair's personal opinions of Thompson, and it probably does to an extent, your argument seems to imply that a website's Alexa rating, rather than it's status as a reputable source or not, controls whether it should be used in an encyclopedia article. Thanks for the hard work. I actually had read the articles when they came out, but didn't get around to updating the article. It's definitely still around, as I have a couple of students who show many signs of using (and dealing) it, but who've not yet been caught with it on them or in their systems, and a neighboring teacher just the other day found a hollowed out pen with bits of the drug inside. We're trying ... that's all we can do with the DISD's cutbacks in security staffing (in the name of directing funds to the classroom, ironically -- won't help to have more or better teachers if more kids are too high in class to learn!). Hi there. Yes, I do have the Battle Royale DVDs, but locating reliable sources has never been easy.

All the Battle Royale articles are, to be honest, a complete carcrash and need serious work. Aside from the fact that I don't have the time to do this, sourcing has always been an issue due to the underground nature of it all. It's definitely notable - the novel was brought up in the Japanese parliament and passing reference is made to it frequently by film critics and sometimes beyond that, but finding sources that say something meaningful - such as about the production - is something else entirely.

I'll ask on the relevant wiki projects, and I'll also ask on the main external Battle Royale forums to see if something can be done. I don't know if its actually worth creating a task force for this? There's a lot of work required, but I don't know if there's enough articles for a task force? I can see where you are coming from: fansites are biased, but there is a point to be made. The reception of a TV character/show is best seen through the opinions of the viewer. Although fansites may be unreliable as they are likely to be entirely positive, an ordinary site with a debate on the concerned topic would maybe be acceptable as long as no extremist views were there and the site was controlled. This is definitely the case with Battle Royale, for example, where one site (and, its owner, one person) is considered universally among the fan community as a reliable source of information. The problem is justifying it to those who, admittedly with logic on their side, question the reliability. To those within the community its fine, its the universality of it that causes problems! Thanks for the comments. I am aware that US sources are often - although it is not clearly stated as such - discussing crimes originating elsewhere, as are many other sources from many other countries. Fortunately the US is not alone in warning its citizens against those of other nations. Interestingly though, other than Nigeria, there is really no indication of any other country as being a haven for 419 scams and they don't discount the possibility of scams originating the US.

I cannot see how the story of the Japanese man escaping Nigerian kidnappers is proof of a 419 scam originating in South Africa. It is proof of probable kidnapping, but the article does not itself contain proof or even an outright assertion of 419-related activity, as demonstrated in the last paragraph: His kidnapping could be linked to the so-called 419 scam letters. Nigerians write these letters, luring victims into depositing money in their accounts with promises of large returns. Pure speculation. Will see what others say on the talk page.

The SAPS advisory compares with the FBI's and should be taken with the same kind of attitude. The late reference to a scheme in JHB is not linked to 419s per se. If you look into exchange control regulations, you may see that it's an attractive idea but one which would ultimately leave someone open to many potential scams, included but not limited to 419s.

Thanks, the Japanese man definitely was not proving your point particularly. The research paper might not prove all the points that you wish; or alternatively it might make this a long battle. The paper is discussing AFF in general, although it has reference to South Africa. It notes conversations with perpetrators but also notes the origins and nationalities of those taking part in a quantitative sense. If this were to be relied upon, it would to some extent (a) negate the discussion insofar as South Africa and The Netherlands are concerned, and (b) if you seriously want to pursue this rigorously you could be looking at inserting corresponding sections into the pages of Ghana and other West African countries, Malawi, Pakistan, etc. Kit Berg ( talk) 21:00, 22 January 2008 (UTC) reply

Hi WhispertoMe. Thanks for all of your hard work on the Debito Arudou page. As a courtesy, I'm letting you know that someone initiated an AfD on the Arudou article on notability grounds. No worries. The article is not going anywhere, but the general consensus was that there were way too many citations (20+) from his personal website in conflict with Wikipedia not being a soapbox and the policy regarding publication of too much self-serving, self-published material per WP:BLP. It looks like they need to be mostly all removed and replaced with secondary source citations. I'm not sure that it's something that I want to do myself, because that means I'd have to spend hours on Lexis-Nexis and Factiva and the libraries researching the specific quotes that will be deleted (and I'm quite busy recently), but if no one else wants to hit the libraries and do this research (any chance you could help me out?), I guess at some point it will have to be me. Sitting here at ZLA, I'm within the City of Palmdale, and so is the PMD passenger terminal. Across the street is the LAWA PMD office. It's technically in unincorporated L.A. County, which is pretty meaningless as to where things are. Even my City doesn't care about all the "county islands" when considering discounts at Dry Town Water Park. If there's actually another city/town, go ahead, but unincorporated county means much less than the postal city. And if that's going to be done, the ZIP codes should go away. I'm a text kind of guy and don't work with picture much. In fact I don't even have a camera other than my cell phone (one that produces 30kB pics), but you may be able to grab a picture from here [4] and edit out the bottom. One other thing you can do is add an illustration of ZLA's airspace by editing [5].

Something to clarify here. The whole Plant 42 is U.S. government property. Plant 42 belongs to USAF of course, but a little corner was cut out for the FAA. LAWA acquired many square miles of land around Plant 42 (mainly south and east), hoping to develop it into an airport bigger than LAX (not going to happen any time soon). LAWA owns the little passenger terminal building north of 20th East and P, probably also the road, the parking lot and the immediate tarmac. But the taxiways and runways are all USAF Plant 42. (In fact, private companies like Northrop Grumman, Lockheed operate flights to transport personnel between PMD and other offices--all this activity has nothing to do with LAWA.) Regarding your question: well, you asked for a reference for the meaning of the verb "gozar." I can give you a few dictionaries -- there's this Portuguese-to-English one [6], for instance. In Brazil, the use of "gozar" meaning "to come, to reach an orgasm" is pretty widespread. In particular, the usage without an explicit object implies this meaning. Here in São Paulo (where Ms. Suplicy was born and lived most of her life, by the way) usage is pretty consistent in that way; if you wish to use "gozar" in one of the other meanings, you have to give it a clear object.

OK, let me try again. "Relax and enjoy it" is a correct translation... kinda. It's right because is the way an American would refer to the old phrase about "if the rape is inevitable...", and because "relax and cum" (like the translation that somebody posted before me) would be far more shocking to an American public than "relaxa e goza" is to the Brazilian public (different cultures and all that). However, it fails to convey the fact that the verb "gozar," in that particular phrasing (without an object), has a very clear, specific meaning to a Brazilian, particularly one from São Paulo (like Ms. Suplicy) -- that of "reaching an orgasm." I can't point you to any site doing this kind of analysis, because for a Brazilian it is self-evident -- no newspapers here bothered to explain it AFAIK. Per this injunction, character articles related to television should not be redirected or unredirected until it is over. You should include the details in the main list for now. Seeing as they are just creation details, and the list really needs some good information anyways, there is no real point in separate articles. It would be best to just work on that list as a whole. Look up the definition of rim yourself. [8]

A rim is the outer part of a wheel. Any wheel, alloy or otherwise. A tire is mounted to the rim of a wheel . A rim is part of the wheel, ergo the wheel is X size. By definition, rim and wheel are not synonymous. In slang usage, the two terms can be. Slang does not belong on Wikipedia.

When someone says, "I got new rims." they're likely talking about new wheel, not new outer edges of their wheel upon which their tires are mounted. (Maybe they have two or three-piece wheels, sure.) Change it back if it makes you feel better. Looks like you already did. I'm over it.

Reporting me without discussing it with me first was rather classless in my opinion. I have a talk page and a registered email on wikipedia. It really just comes across as you taking this way too personally. Like some great wiki-righter of wiki-wrongs. You sure got me. I ruined Wikipedia. You got me in trouble. You win.

Excuse me for my long silence. I hope you remember that I have something to say about Romanization.

I read "Multiple romanizations?" in the archive of "Manual of Style for Japan-related articles/Romanization" this morning. All the participants including you take it as a matter of fact that most Japanese people stick to Hepburn system when they write in Latin alphabet. But their method is not to be called Hepburn for it lacks macron letters.

We must start from the fact that no authentic Kana scripts have letters for long vowels, if we should work out a transliteration system. And it must be able to differetiate ヂ and ジ or ヅ and ズ. But it is the matter to be settled first in Japan. And I think what effect the shift of Japan/Mark to macon-less or circonflex-less system would make should be watched. cf ja:ノート:ローマ字論#擴張ヘボン式.

Thanks for your prompt answer. Please read Talk:Kimi Ga Yo#Kana script. I do not know if you have already read [ 擴張ヘボン式 or EHS (Extended Hepburn System)] and Talk:Romanization_of_Japanese/Archive_2#An_Extended_Hepburn_System, but I would like to say that EHS could transcribe any Japanese texts since 萬葉集, and that it would produce very satisfactory spellings as far as reading were concerned if applied to the classical Kana script but that those systems synchronically conceived for the Japanese language of the Meiji period like Nihon system or Hepburn system could neither differentiate affricate and fricative pairs such as English soft 'g' and French one nor represent such syllables as ティ ディ スィ ズィ etc. found in borrowed words in the present-day Japanese. The classical Kana script abounds in seemingly useless symbols of 'w' and medial 'h', but the Present-day Kana script discarded them except when immediately followed by 'a' sound. Hence trasliteration of the present-day script produces far more juxtapositions of vowels, which Hepburn and his comtemporaries tried to fold into half so many long vowels when possible using macrons or circonflexes.

Apropos of Gendai Kanadzuka`i or Present-day Kana Usage, you could liken it to a spelling reform of the English language. Many attempts were made but all failed before officially adopted, though English spelling was notorious for its incongruity. G.L.Brook told more truth than he meant when he said, "the pronunciation of English is constantly changing and we have reason to be grateful that spelling is not constantly changing along with it." in his "A History of the English Language." You can read Bejamin Franklin's opinion in comment 18 at [ yaskuni why the emperor stopped going]. Blessed are the people of the United States for neither M.Webster nor B.Franklin remained spelling reformer to the end. Please read Henry Bradley's "On the relations between Spoken and Written Language with special reference to English."

In postwar Japan, a radical reform was adopted without much deliberation. Befor the war, we could talk about orthography of a word. But today, you are no longer sure of the spelling of a word for it depends how you pronounce it. Besides official proclamation often comes in. Take 稲妻 (flash of lightning) for example, it was seplled イナヅマ (inadzuma) for lightning was believed something to fertilize the rice plant. You can analize イナヅマ into イナ the combining form of イネ（稲 ine） and ヅマ the combined form of ツマ（妻 tsuma）. But immediately after the war, it was officially proclaimed to be spelled イナズマ （inazuma）for people should think of the etymology of the word no longer today. But in 1986, it was proclaimed those people who might still think of the etymology could spell it イナヅマ. So today you can spell the word in either way. I think this faltering spelling was brought about as an excuse for Romanization, for it could be fixed once transcribed by either Nihon (or Kunrei) system or Hepburn system. -- Kmns tsw ( talk) 06:00, 24 March 2008 (UTC) reply

Let me put down a comment to "Kitaro, Kitarou and Kitarō" here, lest it should make the discussion there tangle. The original Kana spelling should be キタラウ or Kitarau if in prewar times. The vowel sequence "au" made by the vowel of the third mora "ra" and the fourth mora "u" was pronounced as the firsty syllable of "autumn" or long "o" sound, and analyzed as a single vowel by James C. Hepburn and transcribed by ō. After the war, Gendai Kanadzuka`i changed the top of this vowel sequence to "o", in anticipation of this transcription. But this change did not make the phonetic value of the sequence self-explanatory. Instead it made it more difficult to explain. Can you think of a word which contains "ou" spelling with the phonetic value of the first syllable of "autumn"? And perhaps because of the difficulty to input the macron-capped vowels, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan stipulated not to use macron-capped vowels on passports (they must be replaced with macron-less counterparts). Hence the first rendering in the section title line. The second rendering is the transliteraiton of Gendai Kandzka`i or post-was Kana script and the third rendering is a Hepburn rendenering. The first rendering should by no means be called Hepburn system, but the Ministry of Foreign Affairs still proclaims they are using Hepburn system. There are several sequences to be analyzed as a long "o". In the following table, 歴史的假名(the time-honoured classical script, which can be applied to the Japanese language panchronically) and 現代假名(which is believed to be more adequate for the Japanese of Meiji period) are shown by EHS (Extended Hepburn System). It shows some other examples other than so-called long vowels too. In EHS, the medial "h" is shown by a reversed apostrophe or grave accent. The medial "h" as well as the consonant of the "wa" column of the Kana syllabary is realized only when immediately followed by an "a" sound. In case of 硫黄、it is not an "a" sound that follows the "w", for "au" is pronounced like that of "autumn". The sequence "eu" is to be pronounced like that of "Europe". It is not hindered by medial "h". I am not sure which is to be rendered into "ō" of the two candidates of 大 and 應 by wikipedians. Here I took the former. Most Japanese would take the latter rather than the former, for "o`o" sequence is two distinctive vowels for us.

I must add that the prevocalic "i" is semivocalized when the said vowel is "u". Take "riukiu(琉球)" for example, "i" is pronounced with "y" onset but still retains the full duration of a vowel. So "riukiu" (the original spelling) represents a quite different pronunciation from that suggested by "ryukyu" (the Passport spelling). In the case of the "eu" or "e`u" sequence, it palatalizes the preceding alveolars. Hence the pronunciation of "chō" of 蝶 (te'u). No, I never tried to spam anyone. How was the URL blacklisted? Still on the LAUSD discussion, the font on my posting appears tiny. I have not been able to change it. I wished to post for informational purposes my tort letter to the district and the L.A. Times article (with a link) about the Markham Vice Principal child molester. The District doesn't usually respond to anything or anyone -- including complaints about the child molester himself. BTW, I'm being helped by NOW and other well-known organizations on this issue.
