A tag has been placed on University of Florida Glee Club requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about a club, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable, as well as our subject-specific notability guidelines for people and for organizations.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{ hangon}} to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the article meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Lastly, please note that if the article does get deleted, you can contact one of these admins to request that a copy be emailed to you. --smurdah ( talk) 02:08, 24 December 2008 (UTC) reply

Notability of M. Dianne Murphy

Hello, this is a message from an automated bot. A tag has been placed on M. Dianne Murphy, by another Wikipedia user, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. The tag claims that it should be speedily deleted because M. Dianne Murphy seems to be about a person, group of people, band, club, company, or web content, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is notable: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, articles that do not assert the subject's importance or significance may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable.

To contest the tagging and request that administrators wait before possibly deleting M. Dianne Murphy, please affix the template {{hangon}} to the page, and put a note on its talk page. If the article has already been deleted, see the advice and instructions at WP:WMD. Feel free to contact the bot operator if you have any questions about this or any problems with this bot, bearing in mind that this bot is only informing you of the nomination for speedy deletion; it does not perform any nominations or deletions itself. Proposed deletion of Florida Gators Dazzlers

A proposed deletion template has been added to the article Florida Gators Dazzlers, suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process because of the following concern:

Non-notable

All contributions are appreciated, but this article may not satisfy Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and the deletion notice should explain why (see also " What Wikipedia is not" and Wikipedia's deletion policy). You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{ dated prod}} notice, but please explain why you disagree with the proposed deletion in your edit summary or on its talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised because, even though removing the deletion notice will prevent deletion through the proposed deletion process, the article may still be deleted if it matches any of the speedy deletion criteria or it can be sent to Articles for Deletion, where it may be deleted if consensus to delete is reached. Bdb484 ( talk) 18:32, 19 February 2009 (UTC) reply

Hi there. It's possible that the Dazzlers are deserving of an article on Wikipedia, but if that's the case, you'll need to do a little more work to get it where it needs to be. Simply saying that they are one of the strongest squads in the country is not sufficient. The main things you need to do are find reliable, verifiable sources to back up the information in the article and include them there. — Bdb484 ( talk) 19:08, 19 February 2009 (UTC) reply

Perhaps the Florida Dazzlers paragraph would be better folded into the main Florida Gators article. I think 2 to 3 sentences would be appropriate, perhaps with a photo. I don't know that anyone searches Wikipedia looking for information on the Dazzlers, but the Dazzlers' contribution can and should recognized, in an appropriate way, as part of the larger athletic program. I think you're overdoing it. I am going to propose an afd for all the dormitories, and experience shows that such articles are almost always deleted. You might consider merging the information to the list of buildings, which has been attracted some unfavorable attention at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Universities. I'm not in the least opposed to detailed content on universities, but I think that tis can best be done by not including material that will not be of interest to people outside the university--you seem likely to produce a backlash. A tag has been placed on File:Marreese Speights.jpg requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section I3 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is an image licensed as "for non-commercial use only," "non-derivative use" or "used with permission," it has not been shown to comply with the limited standards for the use of non-free content. [1], and it was either uploaded on or after 2005-05-19, or is not used in any articles. If you agree with the deletion, there is no need to do anything. If, however, you believe that this image may be retained on Wikipedia under one of the permitted conditions then:

  • state clearly the source of the image. If it has been copied from elsewhere on the web you should provide links to: the image itself, the page which uses it and the page which contains the license conditions.
  • add the relevant copyright tag.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{ hangon}} to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Carl Van Ness, etc.

NorwalkJames----As you suggested, I made contact with University Historian Carl Van Ness by e-mail on Friday, and have exchanged some entertaining and informative e-mail messages with him about Sledd, Murphree and the humble beginnings of the university in 1905-1906. He is sending me a Care package with the 150th Anniversary history that you had recommended to me, as well as a copy of Dr. Farr's 1935 manuscript history of the university. In exchange, I am sending him copies of the Barnett biography of Sledd, as well as some other Sledd-related items from the Candler Theology Library here in Atlanta. Nice guy. He indicated that he wanted to rewrite the early UF president bios and UF history for Wikipedia himself, but has just not been able to make time to do it. Hearing that, I let him know that my plan is to get the Andrew Sledd, Albert A. Murphree, James M. Farr, John J. Tigert and J. Wayne Reitz articles into presentable condition, and asked him if he would review and comment on the rewritten presidential bios when ready. He seems willing to help, as long as it doesn't become a bottomless pit for his time.

My personal work plan is to finish the footnotes for Sledd, Murphree, Farr and Tigert (I think these articles are starting to look respectable), and then I was going to circle back and use that accumulated information to rewrite the History of the University of Florida article. Once the history article is in presentable shape, then I will ask Van Ness to take a look-see at it, too. Once we get the history article into stable condition, then I plan to pare down the separate UF history article to 4 or 5 paragraphs (roughly, (i) pre-1905 prologue; (ii) founding era; (iii) Depression & World War II era; (iv) post-war GI Bill era and campus expansion; and (v) "quest for academic excellence" recent history), totalling about 1,000 words or fewer, and then drop those abbreviated paragraphs into the main University of Florida article. That way the abbreviated history section of the main UF article should cross-reference the separate UF history article quite nicely, without being overly redundant. Well, that's the plan anyway. Once that's done, then I will be ready to take a long weekend and do a fundamental re-write of the main UF article. Before I do that, however, I want to post a proposed outline of the revamped main UF article on the discussion page, and solicit feedback from the UF Wiki regulars for a month or more, and see if we can't get everyone on board with a plan! The hardest part will be gaining consensus on emphasis and scope. IMHO, the present main UF article suffers from ad hoc additions ---- a lot of the history and tradition items need to be pushed into the history article, and two-thirds of the sports references need to be pushed into the Florida Gators overview or individual sports articles.

The article Jon M. Mills has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

This is the wrong spelling (apparently) of a redirect. Creates confusion and fills up a space in case there's an actual Jon M. Mills article in the future.

While all contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{ dated prod}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{ dated prod}} will stop the Proposed Deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. The Speedy Deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and Articles for Deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. • NorwalkJames, thanks for the note about the Wightman image. Yes, images from the DOD are generally PD, but that particular image was credited to a non-DOD employee at WUSTL. You might want to consider contacting WUSTL public relations officers to secure permission for a replacement image. See WP:OTRS for how to do that.-- GrapedApe ( talk) 18:33, 3 October 2010 (UTC) reply

File copyright problem with File:PresidentPadron.jpg

Thank you for uploading File:PresidentPadron.jpg. However, it currently is missing information on its copyright status. Wikipedia takes copyright very seriously. It may be deleted soon, unless we can determine the license and the source of the file. If you know this information, then you can add a copyright tag to the image description page.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their license and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have created in your upload log.

If you have any questions, please feel free to ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thanks again for your cooperation. Sfan00 IMG ( talk) 19:45, 12 October 2010 (UTC) reply

Better source request for File:Miami Dade College.jpg

Thanks for your upload to Wikipedia:

You provided a source, but it is difficult for other users to examine the copyright status of the image because the source is incomplete. Please consider clarifying the exact source so that the copyright status may be checked more easily. It is best to specify the exact Web page where you found the image, rather than only giving the source domain, search engine, pinboard, aggregator, or the URL of the image file itself. Please update the image description with a URL that will be more helpful to other users in determining the copyright status.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source in a complete manner. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page or me at my talk page. Thank you. ShakespeareFan00 ( talk) 12:35, 27 October 2018 (UTC) reply
