Good call with applying semi-protection onto this article - it was definitely needed. I wanted to give you a heads up that I went and extended the protection duration to three months. When I look back through the edit history, this exact kind of BLP libel and disruption goes back much further than today, and I felt that it was warranted. Please let me know if you have any questions, concerns, or objections to this - I'll be more than happy to discuss it with you and make sure that we come to mutual agreement if such is needed. :-) Cheers, and thanks again! ~Oshwah~ (talk) (contribs) 03:22, 30 September 2022 (UTC)
News and updates for administrators from the past month (September 2022).
Please refrain from making unconstructive edits to Wikipedia, as you did at User:GeneralNotability/spihelper-dev.js. Your edits appear to be disruptive and have been or will be reverted.
Please ensure you are familiar with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines, and please do not continue to make edits that appear disruptive. Continued disruptive editing may result in loss of editing privileges. Look, I love edit summaries, but "deploying revision https://github.com/GeneralNotability/spihelper/commit/dda33a1fa0d0f8603d3fed4b56b683904b73a4ad dda33a1fa0d0f8603d3fed4b56b683904b73a4ad", that's just totally over the top. Hi GN, I see you were on the ArbCom election commission last year, and are still active. The nominations for this year's EC close in 2 days, and so far we have one nomination, and they've never been on the EC before. Would you consider joining them on the nomination page? IMHO, the EC should have at least one person who has done it before, so we don't lose institutional memory, and can pass it down to newbies who join this year. So I hope you have the time and the inclination. -- Floquenbeam ( talk) 22:03, 5 October 2022 (UTC)

It is not merely unfair but also nasty and sneaky to continue to allow comments in a talk page discussion where the editor whose talk page it is can not respond. DuncanHill ( talk) 22:31, 9 October 2022 (UTC)

Hello GeneralNotability/Archives/2022,
Much has happened since the last newsletter over two months ago. The open letter finished with 444 signatures. The letter was sent to several dozen people at the WMF, and we have heard that it is being discussed but there has been no official reply. A related article appears in the current issue of The Signpost. If you haven't seen it, you should, including the readers' comment section.
Awards: Barnstars were given for the past several years (thanks to MPGuy2824), and we are now all caught up. The 2021 cup went to John B123 for leading with 26,525 article reviews during 2021. To encourage moderate activity, a new "Iron" level barnstar is awarded annually for reviewing 360 articles ("one-a-day"), and 100 reviews earns the "Standard" NPP barnstar. About 90 reviewers received barnstars for each of the years 2018 to 2021 (including the new awards that were given retroactively). All awards issued for every year are listed on the Awards page. Check out the new Hall of Fame also.
Software news: Novem Linguae and MPGuy2824 have connected with WMF developers who can review and approve patches, so they have been able to fix some bugs, and make other improvements to the Page Curation software. You can see everything that has been fixed recently here. The reviewer report has also been improved.
Suggestions:
Backlog:
Saving the best for last: From a July low of 8,500, the backlog climbed back to 11,000 in August and then reversed in September dropping to below 6,000 and continued falling with the October backlog drive to under 1,000, a level not seen in over four years. Keep in mind that there are 2,000 new articles every week, so the number of reviews is far higher than the backlog reduction. To keep the backlog under a thousand, we have to keep reviewing at about half the recent rate!
You can see all open tickets related to Wikidata here. If you want to help, you can also have a look at the tasks needing a volunteer.

Just a couple of days ago you confirmed Lmharding as a sock of Jacobkennedy here. Another user, @ UtoD, has opened a new SPI for IP 64.121.65.96 at WP:Sockpuppet investigations/Jacobkennedy, after noticing this IP user active in the same space since Lmharding's block. Would it be appropriate for you to take a look, rather have the SPI run its course? As evidence, here are diffs of some recent edits:
There's also the IP 64.121.65.96's edit of LMH's user talk page: [13], fixing minor wiki markup errors. This IP address seems very close, to my ignorant eye, to another IP already blocked as a Jacobkennedy sock: 64.121.83.151, and this (ancient), stale DUCK: 64.121.64.15.
Then there is the currently inactive, but not blocked Ususer445. They make the same edits as LMH / Jacobkennedy / Moneyspender, as, e.g., vigilante actions, death. torture; [14]. Or inserting unsourced or SYNTH claims that antidiscrimination laws are not enforced:
Both have placed in article infoboxes claims of "forced anal exams" as penalties:
Hope it's ok to ask here, GeneralNotability; I was not entirely sure, so please excuse any missteps on my part. I read about how time-consuming SPI is to do, so am contacting you as an alternative. I am actually quite concerned that this is really a long-term situation. The older socks go back a decade, so the gap between the 2019 case and this one is unlikely to be the whole story ... In past episodes @ Drmies, @ Bonadea and @ Yamla seem to have been quite involved, so maybe they would be interested, too? (Again, apologies if this is not the correct thing to do.) I can supply more info, if needed. Thanks, AukusRuckus ( talk) 11:12, 22 October 2022 (UTC)
