Kelleys Island Township question

Hi Frank12, I was wondering where you got your information that Kelleys Island, Ohio is a current township in Erie County, Ohio in the article you made: Kelleys Island Township, Erie County, Ohio? The official website for Erie County lists Kelleys Island as a village and not a township [1], so I removed it from the Erie County page list of Townships. I will nominate the Kelleys Island Township, Erie County, Ohio article for deletion in 24 hours unless you can back up your article with verifiable sources. Alaska superimposed on the United States

Hey,

I really like what you did with Alaska superimposed on the United States. It's really hard to get perspective from a map if you don't have something like that.

I'm an exchange student in Rheda-Wiedenbrück, North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany, and I'm from Fairfax, Virginia, USA. I'm teaching a cultural studies class at the high school where I'm doing my exchange. The class covers all countries that speak English. I'm finding that the students (and I) have difficulty grasping the scale of the United States compared to Germany. Do you know of a map with Germany superimposed on the United States? Or possibly the European Union? I have searched extensively in the Internet for one. Would you be able to make one? If not, could you point me in the right direction to how I could get such a map? Thanks! KevinPuj 17:28, 6 September 2007 (UTC) reply

Cool! Thanks for the map. Let me know about any further work you do. The comparisons I always use for America and Germany are that Germany is about the size of Montana and that America is about twice the size of the European Union. That map is excellent for perspective. But once again, keep me updated. Thanks! KevinPuj 21:43, 14 September 2007 (UTC) reply

Macomber-Whitney.

Hello Frank: I am working on this project ( http://www.archsculptbooks.com/home.htm) and am looking for more information about Macomber Vocational High School than I'm finding in wikipedia. I particularly need/want the name of the architect, the street address - and, a real long shot, anything about the sculpture on the building. Also, is the place abandoned? Destroyed? Used for raves? What is happening there now? I look forward to hearing from you. Carptrash 23:36, 5 October 2007 (UTC) reply

Western Buckeye League map

St. Marys Memorial is spelled incorrectly on the map you created. It isn't a catholic school, so it is spelled with no apostrophe. It is simply spelled "St. Marys Memorial".

And I was wondering...could you make a map that includes Bellefontaine, Coldwater, Delphos St. John's, and Bluffton on it along with all the current members? I want to put a map similar to the one you have created under the "former members" area of the article. (if you have time...thanks!) Ohio614 ( talk) 19:43, 12 May 2008 (UTC) reply

If you are keeping the current schools on the map with the former members (which would be great)...you might not have enough room in Allen County to place Bluffton or Delphos St. John's...you could include Bluffton in Hancock County (since Bluffton is part of both counties) and include Delphos St. John's in Van Wert County (since Delphos is part of both counties). Just a suggestion. Thanks for working on it. Ohio614 ( talk) 22:50, 13 May 2008 (UTC) reply

Ohio State Football - All-Time Big Ten Records

For your consideration:

I know that no one 'owns' wiki content, but I look to you as an important early editor in the history of this table. As such, I wanted to chat with you before going to the larger community at the talk page for Ohio State Buckeyes football.

This table seems quite large, complicated, and it is being messed up by lots of good-intentioned updates by various users who are not maintaining the overall integrity that you had originally introduced to the table. The Big Ten columns get some updates, the Overall columns get fewer updates, and the result is messy. Interesting to note that the table header still says 'As of November 26, 2010', despite 2 more years of partial updates.

Perhaps it would make sense to pull the table back to the simpler, and perhaps the larger long term/rich historical importance of, Ohio record against Big Ten teams in Big Ten conference play ONLY. Another way to think of this - the table has not been expanded to show every-single-game against evey-other-team in the USA, so why chose only these 12 teams to show their non-conference results against Ohio?

Another question - and I truly do not know the answer - regards the treatment of the 'vacated' games. Do these still count in the historical record, or do they cease to exist? Whatever the answer, the header should mention it.

Final question - I've seen other sports-related pages where there will be 'hidden' text directing users to 'please do not update this table until the current season is complete.' Would it make sense to ask the same thing for this table?

Overall, would it be worthwhile to adjust the lead (and cleanup the resulting table) to say something like:

*This chart shows Ohio State's all-time results, by opponent, in Big Ten Conference games. Results are shown from when Ohio State joined the Big Ten in 1912. Results do not include Chicago after the 1939 season, and includes newer conference members from when they joined Ohio in the Big Ten: Michigan since 1917; Michigan State 1953; Penn State 1993, and; Nebraska 2011. Results do include Ohio State's self-imposed 'vacated' 2010 season, as these games have not been deleted by the Conference. -or- Results do not include Ohio State's self-imposed 'vacated' 2010 season

(Results as of completion of 2012 Big Ten Conference season)

<>!-- please do not update until completion of next full Big Ten Conference season -- <>

I look forward to your thoughts. Feel free to mark them down here, so as to keep our discussion in one spot.

Thank you. Jmg38 ( talk) 22:39, 28 November 2012 (UTC) reply

Hi, Jmg38!
I appreciate your input into the table and for reminding me to look into something I had forgotten all about! After thinking about it, I like your suggestion of just keeping it to Big Ten matchups and not overall matchups. I agree that it is too confusing to see two sets of numbers, but if we clearly state above the table that it is just for Big Ten matchups, ie:
"This table only includes Ohio State's all-time conference record against other Big Ten members and not non-league matchups. Ohio State began Big Ten play in 1913, so games before then would not count in this table. Likewise, any matchups against current Big Ten opponents that occurred when they were not in the league (Chicago after 1939, Michigan between 1907-1917, Michigan State before 1953, Penn State before 1993, and Nebraska before 2011) would not count either." And maybe something like "see Big Ten History for further information"
I'll figure out those numbers quickly and post a sample of what the table could look like here. Thanks! Frank12 ( talk) 04:00, 29 November 2012 (UTC) reply
Also, this will be somewhat confusing thanks to Ohio State and Penn State's vacated victories. Ohio State vacated one victory against Penn State to have an overall 14-13 record against them as of the completion of this year. However, they keep the losses on their records. So despite Ohio State's 14-13 record against Penn State with the vacated wins, PSU will claim an 8-15 record against OSU with their vacated wins. Without vacated wins, the all-time series is 15-13 Ohio State (13-7 Ohio State in Big Ten play). I don't care which we put in there, but I guess we should research to see if any other Big Ten team vacated wins over the years against Ohio State? Frank12 ( talk) 04:14, 29 November 2012 (UTC) reply

The table

OK, how's this look? (I got to this quicker than I planned):

This table only includes Ohio State's all-time conference record against other Big Ten members and not non-league matchups. Ohio State began Big Ten play in 1913, so games before then would not count in this table. Likewise, any matchups against Big Ten opponents that occurred when they were not in the league (Chicago after 1939, Michigan between 1907-1916, Michigan State before 1953, Penn State before 1993, and Nebraska before 2011) would not count either. (See Big Ten History for further information.)

For simplicity's sake, Ohio State's vacated wins from 2010 ARE included. (See 2010 Ohio State Buckeyes football team for further information.) Penn State's victories over Ohio State that were vacated from 1998-2011 are also included, as they still count as losses for Ohio State and not victories for Penn State. (See NCAA and Big Ten sanctions for Penn State.)

That was fast work!! Thanks. Problem of multiple teams with vacated records - maybe it is simpler to KEEP the vacated games and simply note it in the lead? "Table does include results from Ohio State's 2010 vacated season and Penn State's vacated xxxx season". As long as the assumption is clearly mentioned up front, should be okay??
Another item - sortable table? Jmg38 ( talk) 09:41, 29 November 2012 (UTC) reply
Updated with those suggestions. I'm not sure how to color the background of the top rows, it won't work for me. Also, the link to the 2010 season is there in case someone wants to see who Ohio State played that season and would have vacated a win to. Frank12 ( talk) 14:38, 29 November 2012 (UTC) reply
Looks great. I like your addition of the link to the 2010 season. Should it also mention that it does include results from Penn State vacated wins, including a link to that article? Would drop one word - "current" - since Chicago is no longer a current Big Ten participant. I can take a look at the background colour after the table is posted. Do you plan to post directly, with edit summary (something like 'Big Ten all time history table reflects games against teams while active in conference'), or post in Talk first? Might be better to post to the article and let folks respond with a talk article if they feel it is necessary.
Alright, I posted the table and its description in the talk section of the page for Ohio State Buckeyes football to see what others think. If we can just get the colors back in there, I think it'll be a great addition to the page. Frank12 ( talk) 20:29, 29 November 2012 (UTC) reply

College football team season articles

Frank12, thanks for your recent work creating new college football team season articles. Please take a look at my edits on 1974 Rhode Island Rams football team, for example. I cleaned up a bunch of formatting there. Let me know if you have any questions about this stuff. Jweiss11 ( talk) 04:00, 26 October 2016 (UTC) reply

Sounds good, I can follow that way of formatting. Frank12 ( talk) 12:05, 26 October 2016 (UTC) reply
Hi Frank - one more thing, there's no need to change cfb link to the static link. A bot will make those changes for you, which should save you some time and effort. See here for an example. It occasionally takes a few days for the bot to catch that it needs to make the change, but it always does. I'll add my thanks for your work as well! Ohio Wikimedians User Group - Invitation

Hi Frank12,

I'm Kevin, one of the founding members of the Ohio Wikimedians User Group. Created in July 2016, we're working to be a central group of Ohio Wikimedians who organize and support offline events, promote the Wikimedia movement in Ohio, build connections throughout our state, and above all, support each other. We already have a handful of members and have worked to support multiple events, including Wiki Loves Monuments in the United States and several Art+Feminism edit-a-thons at universities throughout Ohio.

I wanted to reach out to you and invite you to join the Ohio Wikimedians User Group. Being a part of the user group will allow easy communication between active Ohio editors, notifications of upcoming events in the Ohio area, and, if you're interested, the opportunity to help organize events such as edit-a-thons or workshops. Some notes:

  • All members receive a monthly newsletter with recent happenings, upcoming events, and more. Check out our April newsletter here.
  • This Thursday at 8:30 EST, we're having our first online meeting. Check out our meeting page here for more details, an agenda, and a section to sign up if you'd like to join us. Topics will include introductions and brainstorming for future projects.

Right now we have a Wikipedia Takes Columbus photo event going on, a Wiknic coming up this summer, and opportunities to attend the upcoming Ohio Private Academic Libraries Conference. If you're interested in joining us, feel free to add your name here - and feel free to reach out to me (or post on the user group's talk page) with questions or discussions. Thanks! ~ Super Hamster Talk Contribs 07:29, 18 April 2017 (UTC) reply

2019 US Banknote Contest

US Banknote Contest
November-December 2019

There are an estimated 30,000 different varieties of United States banknotes, yet only a fraction of these are represented on Wikimedia Commons in the form of 2D scans. Additionally, Colonial America, the Confederate States, the Republic of Texas, multiple states and territories, communities, and private companies have issued banknotes that are in the public domain today but are absent from Commons.

In the months of November and December, WikiProject Numismatics will be running a cross-wiki upload-a-thon, the 2019 US Banknote Contest. The goal of the contest is to increase the number of US banknote images available to content creators on all Wikimedia projects. Participants will claim points for uploading and importing 2D scans of US banknotes, and at the end of the contest all will receive awards. Whether you want to claim the Gold Wiki or you just want to have fun, all are invited to participate.

If you do not want to receive invitations to future US Banknote Contests, follow the instructions here

I had just started creating the article on the Mansfield-Bucyrus, OH Combined Statistical Area.

Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

The article Lenawee County Athletic Association has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

No evidence of notability for this article about State level high school athletics competition. Single reference is own web-site. Fails WP:GNG

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the page to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion.   Velella   Velella Talk   09:59, 29 November 2017 (UTC) reply

Stephen Jo Bladd moved to draftspace

An article you recently created, Stephen Jo Bladd, is not suitable as written to remain published. It needs more citations from reliable, independent sources. ( ?) Information that can't be referenced should be removed ( verifiability is of central importance on Wikipedia). I've moved your draft to draftspace (with a prefix of "Draft:" before the article title) where you can incubate the article with minimal disruption. When you feel the article meets Wikipedia's general notability guideline and thus is ready for mainspace, please click on the "Submit your draft for review!" button at the top of the page. scope_creep Talk 23:36, 2 June 2022 (UTC) reply
