Hello. I have blocked editing from this account for Disruption on HTC Wizard. Basically we have resumed edit warring after the protection has expired. Please use the talk page for content disputes rather than reverting each others changes. To contest this block use the {{unblock|your reason here}} template on this page. {{tl:unblock|Despite several attempts at discussion in the talk page, the other user refuses to participate. Ironically, the anonymous user claims that any revert of his edits should be discussed, however he never participates. The only alternative I have is to revert the edit because this has already been discussed several times and there is a consensus among the other wikipedians that this shouldn't be there. Hi. Wikipedia:Third opinion is probably not the proper avenue for revolving your dispute with 122.160.82.88 regarding HTC Wizard, since more than two editors seem to be involved already and since the primary problem is that one of the involved editors is refusing to discuss the situation. As the page indicates, third opinion "requires good faith and civility on both sides of the dispute", and unfortunately you don't seem to have that. :/ I have left a message for the user at User talk:122.160.82.88 advising of our policies on Wikipedia:consensus and tendentious editing and requesting that he or she discuss these changes on the talk page before implementing them. If he persists without an effort to establish consensus, you may wish to follow the recommended steps at disruptive editing by considering Wikipedia:Wikiquette alerts or Wikipedia:Requests for comment/User conduct. (The requisite steps to follow prior to pursuing that are listed here.) Good luck with resolving this. -- Moonriddengirl 15:50, 5 October 2007 (UTC)

Thanks for uploading Image:UH Fight Song.ogg. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).
If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. Hey, I could participate :) WhisperToMe 06:32, 9 November 2007 (UTC)
Sure, I would be interested in participating. I think the most important thing is to define the scope of this project. Do we want a project for the University of Houston or the University of Houston System. If we decide on just University of Houston, then the project should clearly define that and guidelines should be set to state that other articles related to UH–Clear Lake, UH–Downtown, or UH–Victoria are not part of the scope. I prefer a project just for the University of Houston, but also see that this will be problematic as other editors will argue that three other UH System institutions should be part of the project as well since they bear "University of Houston" in their name.
I guess before moving forward, we need to decide what to call the project in accordance with the scope:
I think you should post on the talk pages of Houston and Texas so other editors will be aware of this proposed project.
I read your userpage and noticed that you went to Clements HS! I went and graduated from there as well.

Hi Brian, Thanks for the invitation to join the UH project. At this time I'm not sure I can put a lot of energy into this effort, but I will definitly watch the project page and may jump in to a few articles I spot needing work. Thank you for organizing this and putting time into the UH articles. I used to watch the UH pages closely but was turned off a bit when someone came through and nominated every image for deletion. I'll try to get interested again. -- Rgb9000 16:39, 12 November 2007 (UTC)

Excellent work! You requested an updated assessment, and I'm happy to give it. The highest rating I can offer without a formal review process is a B-class assessment, but I'd strongly suggest adding more in-line citations and submitting this for GA review. It's very good in the prose department, as best as I can tell from a quick look. If you can add those in-line citations, there's absolutely no reason this article couldn't reach good status. Brian, you may want to consider redirecting 2008-09 Houston Cougars men's basketball team to 2008–09 Houston Cougars men's basketball team. For example, if you take a look at Template:NBA seasons or "Category:National Basketball Association season by team templates," you will see that each NBA season (and individual team seasons) all now use the long dash opposed to a short dash. I realize that most of the college teams are using the short dash for 2008-09, but there are also a handful using the long dash (e.g. 2008–09 IUPUI Jaguars men's basketball team, 2008–09 Iowa Hawkeyes men's basketball team, etc.).

Thank you for uploading File:Windows Media Player 10 Mobile.png. However, there is a concern that the rationale provided for using this file on Wikipedia may not meet the criteria required by Wikipedia:Non-free content. This can be corrected by going to the file description page and adding or clarifying the reason why the file qualifies under this policy. In defense of "conflict of interest" I would just like to say that there was an entry for Anthony Ausgang for several years and it was removed at the beginning of this month for lack of references and copyright violations. That first entry was posted by an unknown agent, and not an employee Anthony Ausgang's or by the artist himself. The new entry has fixed these errors with the help of Anthony Ausgang. There is no hype involved in this entry and Wikipedia is not being used for self promotion. I suggest you go to law school before you start to dispense copyright legal advice. Since I don't know what the source material you believe is copyrighted, I can't determine whether the source was copyrighted. Next, you must determine who is the copyright holder and the relationship with the person posting to wikipedia. Assuming the source is copyrighted and its author is not posting to wikipedia, you must next perform an analysis to determine whether the use is a "fair use" allowed by the copyright laws. Since you claim that two different literary expressions are both copyrighted, I suspect that you are mistakenly assuming that copyright protects underlying facts — instead of just the literary expression of those facts or ideas. I suggest that the next time you find a passage that you feel is a copyright violation, you rephrase it. I also suggest that you review WP:OWN Racepacket ( talk) 16:33, 3 August 2009 (UTC)
I have nominated The University of Houston Alumni Association, an article that you created, for deletion. I do not think that this article satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and have explained why at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/The University of Houston Alumni Association. Your opinions on the matter are welcome at that same discussion page; also, you are welcome to edit the article to address these concerns. Thank you for your time.

Welcome to Wikipedia. Although everyone is welcome to contribute constructively to the encyclopedia, adding content without citing a reliable source, as you did to 2006 Houston Cougars football team, is not consistent with our policy of verifiability. Take a look at the welcome page to learn more about contributing to this encyclopedia. If you are familiar with Wikipedia:Citing sources, please take this opportunity to add references to the article. Thank you. Eeekster ( talk) 07:22, 20 October 2009 (UTC)
You could have shown some courtesy by notifying me when you tagged File:Renu Khator.jpg for speedy deletion due to "copyright violation." The source to the photo contained the following: "These photographs of University of Houston System Chancellor and UH President Renu Khator are approved for public use. We request that the credit line 'Photo Courtesy of UH' be included, if possible." I did not engage in "copyright violation" per the website's message as you claimed in your tagging. You also did not show any courtesy by commenting in the edit summary instead of leaving me a message of the situation. You cannot expect people to "watch" or "patrol" every article they edit or every image they upload. I no longer engage in major editing projects on Wikipedia, and I do not care or have time to "watch" or "patrol" pages.
Instead of accusing the upload as a "copyright violation" regarding the image, you could have engaged in a dialogue with me and/or apply the correct copyright tagging with fair use rationale. The image in question is available for publicity use and it qualifies for fair use instead of requesting it for speedy deletion.
I do not care if the image is deleted even though it qualifies for fair use. I just wanted UH related articles to look good, and I know you would want the same. Moving forward, I would hope that you engage in a dialogue with me or any other editor first if/when you have concerns about the subject in question prior to taking actions on your own by accusing of "copyright violation" or marking it for "speedy deletion."
I have dismissed many of your past actions regarding my edits and others' edits on University of Houston and UHS related articles, but I will no longer tolerate that going forward. You have reverted a lot of my edits and others edits just because you disagree or do not like it for whatever reason. When you revert my edits, you make them look like they were malicious/vandalism by having the following in edit summaries: "Undid revision XXXXXXX by RJN..." In the future, please engage in a dialogue with me or any other editor when the edits are clearly not vandalism instead of leaving your comments in the edit summary. In addition, please refrain from making condescending and superiority comments/remarks in edit summaries when reverting non-vandalism edits. The dialogue or discussion of disagreements can be at the subject in question's talk page or the editor's talk page, instead of comments/remarks in the edit summary.
You have made significant contributions to UH and UHS related articles, and those contributions are much appreciated. However, this does not mean you own these pages and act condescending toward other editors. Your behaviors and reverts on UH and UHS related articles seem to imply that you take ownership of these articles by preventing others from editing.

Hello. In case you didn't know, when you add content to talk pages and Wikipedia pages that have open discussion, you should sign your posts by typing four tildes ( ~~~~ ) at the end of your comment. You may also click on the signature button located above the edit window. This will automatically insert a signature with your username or IP address and the time you posted the comment. This information is useful because other editors will be able to tell who said what, and when. Thank you. i B e n 23:47, 15 February 2010 (UTC)

I just uncovered a long-standing misinterpretation regarding the history of the UH System. UHCLC was established by the Texas Legislature in 1971 as a "separate and distinct" [1] degree-granting institution since its creation. [2] So when the UH System was established in 1977, it had two freestanding universities: UH and UHCLC. Only Downtown College and Victoria Center were branch campuses of UH. I have made appropriate changes at respective articles and removed the UH System timeline image that I had uploaded. Hopefully, I can create another one similar since I don't have access to Visio anymore. Anyway, I just thought you'd want to know. — RJN ( talk) 13:36, 27 March 2010 (UTC)
Brian, I don't think the UHD article needs that name change section anymore. This section has become a soapbox recently with deflamatory edits against UH. I don't know if you are aware, but there has been a lot of deflamatory remarks against UH from the UHD community lately. See this, [3] and read everything on the right side of the pane. — RJN ( talk) 04:49, 23 April 2010 (UTC)

Hello. Your account has been granted the "reviewer" userright, allowing you to review other users' edits on certain flagged pages. Pending changes, also known as flagged protection, will be commencing a two-month trial at approximately 23:00, 2010 June 15 (UTC).
Reviewers can review edits made by users who are not autoconfirmed to articles placed under flagged protection. Flagged protection is applied to only a small number of articles, similarly to how semi-protection is applied but in a more controlled way for the trial.
When reviewing, edits should be accepted if they are not obvious vandalism or BLP violations, and not clearly problematic in light of the reason given for protection (see Wikipedia:Reviewing process). More detailed documentation and guidelines can be found here.
If you do not want this userright, you may ask any administrator to remove it for you at any time. Karanacs ( talk) 14:20, 16 June 2010 (UTC)

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.
If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.
A tag has been placed on James Coney Island requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done because the article, which appears to be about a real person, individual animal(s), an organization (band, club, company, etc.), or web content, does not indicate how or why the subject of the article is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, articles that do not indicate the subject's importance or significance may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable.
If you think that you can assert the notability of the subject, you may contest the deletion by adding {{
hang on}}
at the top of the article, immediately below the speedy deletion ({{db-...}}
) tag (if no such tag exists, the page is no longer a speedy delete candidate), and providing your reasons for contesting on
the article's talk page, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the article meets the criterion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself. You may freely add information to the article that would confirm the subject's notability under Wikipedia guidelines.
You may want to read the guidelines for specific types of articles: biographies, websites, bands, or companies. Bob A ( talk) 15:11, 25 November 2010 (UTC)
Hi! I'm leaving you this message because you're listed as a Wikipedian from Houston. The Wikipedia Ambassador Program is currently looking for Campus Ambassadors from the Houston area, to help with Wikipedia assignments at Texas Southern University. Classes at TSU will be participating in the Public Policy Initiative for the Spring 2011 semester, and the role of Campus Ambassadors will be to provide face-to-face training and support for students on Wikipedia-related skills (how to edit articles, how to add references, etc.). This includes doing in-class presentations, running workshops and labs, possibly holding office hours, and in general providing in-person mentorship for students.
Prior Wikipedia skills are not required for the role, as training will be provided for all Campus Ambassadors (although, of course, being an experienced editor is a plus).
If you are interested in being a Wikipedia Campus Ambassador, or know someone in Houston who might be, please email me or leave a message on my talk page. Thanks!-- Sage Ross - Online Facilitator, Wikimedia Foundation ( talk) 20:12, 1 December 2010 (UTC)

Hi, this message is to let you know about disambiguation links you've recently created. A link to a disambiguation page is almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. For more information, see the FAQ or drop a line at the DPL WikiProject.
Any suggestions for improving this automated tool are welcome. Thanks, DPL bot ( talk) 13:05, 16 November 2011 (UTC)

Thank you for uploading File:Windows Media Center logo.png. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, please add a link to the page from which it was taken, together with a brief restatement of the website's terms of use of its content. If the original copyright holder is a party unaffiliated with the website, that author should also be credited. Please add this information by editing the image description page.
If the necessary information is not added within the next days, the image will be deleted. If the file is already gone, you can still make a request for undeletion and ask for a chance to fix the problem.
Please refer to the image use policy to learn what images you can or cannot upload on Wikipedia. Please also check any other files you have uploaded to make sure they are correctly tagged. Here is a list of your uploads. If you have any questions or are in need of assistance please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Greetings fellow Wikipedia editor -
I am leaving you this note because I have reason to believe that you are interested in C-SPAN. (I may have made this assumption based on your C-SPAN user box, or perhaps for some other reason.) If this is not an interest of yours, please feel free to read no further and delete this message.
If you are in fact someone who is interested in C-SPAN, then let me put forward an idea that I have been kicking around for a while. What if we started a C-SPAN WikiProject?
The parameters of this (potential) project are up for discussion, but it could include some or all of the following (as well as things that may occur to you that have not occurred to me):
I don't know exactly how far we may want to go, nor in what directions, but I do believe ( as I have long noted on my user page) that C-SPAN and Wikipedia are both...
...fantastic vehicles for the free exchange of ideas and information in a non-sound-bite manner, and they both invite the participation of any parties (expert or amateur) who are interested in taking the time to absorb and/or contribute to the ideas and information offered. C-SPAN and Wikipedia go together like peanut butter and jelly, and I want to help give other Wiki users easy access to the great work that C-SPAN has done on a variety of topics.
Now, I should mention that I have never started a WikiProject before, and I do not know the best way to go about it. (Perhaps one of you do?) Let me offer one of my sandbox pages, User:KConWiki/sandbox/Wikiproject C-SPAN?, as a gathering area for comments until such time as we gather enough steam to start our own WikiProject page.
Thanks for reading this far, and I hope that you will give some consideration as to whether this is something we ought to attempt. Please feel free to pass this message on to others you know whom might be interested, and please let me know your thoughts and comments.

Hey, I thought you might be interested in helping to expand these two articles: Grand Texas Sports and Entertainment District and Grand Texas Theme Park. I realize it might seem a bit premature to have the theme park article forked off the parent district article, but I predict the district article will become large very quickly due to so many venues and the theme park should have enough info to stand alone. -- Another Believer ( Talk) 01:32, 4 January 2014 (UTC)

Hi, I'm RonBot, a script that checks new non-free file uploads. I have found that the subject image that you recently uploaded was more than 5% in excess of the Non-free content guideline size of 100,000 pixels. I have tagged the image for a standard reduction, which (for jpg/gif/png/svg files) normally happens within a day. Please check the reduced image, and make sure that the image is not excessively corrupted. Other files will be added to Category:Wikipedia non-free file size reduction requests for manual processing. There is a full seven-day period before the original oversized image will be hidden; during that time you might want to consider editing the original image yourself (perhaps an initial crop to allow a smaller reduction or none at all). A formula for calculation the desired size can be found at WP:Image resolution, along with instructions on how to tag the image in the rare cases that it requires an oversized image (typically about 0.2% of non-free uploads are tagged as necessarily oversized). Please contact the bot owner if you have any questions, or you can ask them at Wikipedia talk:Non-free content. RonBot ( talk) 17:15, 27 July 2018 (UTC)
Thanks for uploading File:Windows Mobile Device Center logo.png. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).
Note that any non-free images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described in section F5 of the criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. -- B-bot ( talk) 18:00, 3 August 2018 (UTC)
Hi, Brian! I got inquiries from a user interested in restarting the Houston WikiProject. I was thinking of making it into a task force of WikiProject Texas since things are less busy and I wanted to have less administrative load, but perhaps you could provide some pointers and suggest whether this would be a good move or whether Houston should remain separate.

The file File:Class of Nuke Em High OST album cover.png has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:
Non-free album cover being used in a decorative manner in Class of Nuke 'Em High#Music. Non-free album cover art is generally allowed to be used for primary identification purposes in stand-alone articles about albums, but its use in other articles is generally only allowed when the cover art itself is the subject of sourced critical commentary as explained in WP:NFC#cite_note-3 and the context for non-free use required by WP:NFCC#8 is evident. There is no such commentary for this particular album cover anywhere in the article, and the use of soundtrack album cover art in articles about films or TV programs is generally not allowed for this reason as explained in WP:FILMSCORE.

A tag has been placed on Category:University of Houston portal requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section C1 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the category has been empty for seven days or more and is not a disambiguation category, a category redirect, a featured topics category, under discussion at Categories for discussion, or a project category that by its nature may become empty on occasion.
If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. US Banknote Contest | ||
---|---|---|
November-December 2019 | ||
There are an estimated 30,000 different varieties of United States banknotes, yet only a fraction of these are represented on Wikimedia Commons in the form of 2D scans. Additionally, Colonial America, the Confederate States, the Republic of Texas, multiple states and territories, communities, and private companies have issued banknotes that are in the public domain today but are absent from Commons. In the months of November and December, WikiProject Numismatics will be running a cross-wiki upload-a-thon, the 2019 US Banknote Contest. The goal of the contest is to increase the number of US banknote images available to content creators on all Wikimedia projects. Participants will claim points for uploading and importing 2D scans of US banknotes, and at the end of the contest all will receive awards. Whether you want to claim the Gold Wiki or you just want to have fun, all are invited to participate. If you do not want to receive invitations to future US Banknote Contests, follow the instructions here |

Hi Brian. My name is Stuart. I work for Lenovo and therefore have a disclosed conflict of interest on the IdeaPad page. The current IdeaPad page is mostly made up of data about each product release, but it's outdated, has many tags, and is poorly formatted. On the Talk page I proposed a product table (see here) similar the one at ThinkPad#Current_model_lines that would help clean-up/consolidate the page.
I was hoping you might be willing to take a look and implement the product table however/wherever you deem appropriate, or provide any feedback/direction, with due regard for the comments @ Mckaysalisbury: already made on Talk. StuartGill ( talk) 16:07, 10 February 2023 (UTC)
Hi BrianReading. I disclosed a conflict of interest on the IdeaPad page and proposed a product table as a possible replacement for 30+ separate sections on individual products/lines that are filled with tags, out-dated, incomplete, and contain excessive detail for an encyclopedia. You added the proposed product table, but didn't delete any of the content the table was intended to replace. I wasn't clear if you disagreed with proposal to replace the current content (not add to it), or if you just hadn't gotten to it. Let me know what you think is best and any way I can help. My name is Zac and I work for a company called Pure Storage. I disclosed a COI and requested some changes here including correcting that the Purity operating system is used in most, but not all, of the company's products, and correcting/updating the list of major product families.
You'll see there that there's been some back and forth already. @ Mckaysalisbury: asked me to make it easier by proposing a draft ( linked here), rather than requesting specific edits. @ North8000: said he wanted to preserve the summaries of each product family (I had actually thought too much product information might be why the tag at the top).
In any case, I've addressed all the feedback provided and not sure where to go from here in terms of getting the corrections actually implemented. Do you have time to chip in? If there's something else I need to do or some other feedback I need to address, just let me know. ZacBond ( talk) 18:18, 23 February 2023 (UTC)

Adding and completing one of the templates available from Wikipedia:Non-free use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your file is in compliance with Wikipedia policy. Please be aware that a non-free use rationale is not the same as an image copyright tag; descriptions for files used under the non-free content policy require both a copyright tag and a non-free use rationale.
If it is determined that the file does not qualify under the non-free content policy, it might be deleted by an administrator within a few days in accordance with our criteria for speedy deletion.

Hi, Brian. I believe the opinions of Tapulous' CEO are pertinent to the company's profile and could prove very useful to educate professionals who seek employment at Tapulous about the CEO's basic requirements for job applicants. The information in that section is solely factual and accurate to the audio recording of the CEO's own words. What's your objection to adding that section? Would you care to explain why you felt it was necessary to delete it? Thanks. 98.195.130.55 ( talk) 03:36, 19 September 2010 (UTC)

If you think that you can assert the notability of the subject, you may contest the deletion by adding {{
hang on}}
at the top of the article, immediately below the speedy deletion ({{db-...}}
) tag (if no such tag exists, the page is no longer a speedy delete candidate), and providing your reasons for contesting on
the article's talk page, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the article meets the criterion, it may be deleted without delay.

A discussion is taking place as to whether the article Mike Nesbitt (American football) is suitable for inclusion in Wikipedia according to Wikipedia's policies and guidelines or whether it should be deleted.
The article will be discussed at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Mike Nesbitt (American football) until a consensus is reached, and anyone is welcome to contribute to the discussion. The nomination will explain the policies and guidelines which are of concern. The discussion focuses on high-quality evidence and our policies and guidelines.
Users may edit the article during the discussion, including to improve the article to address concerns raised in the discussion. However, do not remove the article-for-deletion template from the top of the article. Sionk ( talk) 12:13, 6 December 2012 (UTC)

I was thinking of making it into a task force of WikiProject Texas since things are less busy and I wanted to have less administrative load, but perhaps you could provide some pointers and suggest whether this would be a good move or whether Houston should remain separate.

Thanks for uploading File:Hofheinz Pavilion logo.png.

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.
You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated files}}

the file's talk page.
Please consider addressing the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated files}}
will stop the
proposed deletion process, but other

speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and
files for discussion allows discussion to reach
consensus for deletion. --

November-December 2019 | ||

StuartGill ( talk) 16:45, 21 June 2023 (UTC)
