I just proposed a new article on the actual movement, with the current page as a redirect or a sub-article. The issue has been indirectly adressed on the talk page but to my knowledge has never been considered specifically in regards to creating a new article. I noticed that you mention a "four-million dollar" St. Basils Cathedral in the article Católicos por La Raza. I wanted to say that St. Basil's church 1) did not cost four million dollars, and 2) is not and never was a cathedral. I am pointing this out to you because you were apparently the one who first wrote those words. They will be corrected in the article. I am concerned that portions of the article are worded to make the Church look as bad as possible and the actions of Ricardo Cruz look as noble as possible. I was going with what my sources said. I apologize if my negligence in verifying the claims I reported offended you in any way. I assure you it was not intentional ( WP:AGF). If you'll notice, I did not begin the article, but merely added to it. When I write or take credit for an article, I try to do as much doublechecking as possible. I regret that I don't do the same for all the contributions I make. You may also notice that CPLR is listed as an article in need of expansion under " tasks" at WikiProject Mexican-Americans. I was looking through the Mikhail Lebedev page and it seems to be vanity and non-notable to me. First of all, there is hardly any information about him on Google. Then, none of the publications seem to be news-worthy and notable. Finally, the scientist does not have many 1st author publications and seems to be non-important in his field. Doing google simultaneously with the words, "Raza" and "Indígena" should answer your question. At the broadest sence, "raza" refers to those whose first language is Spanish. Therefore, in latin countries with more significant present of native minority, it is contrasted with "indigena", who speak non-Spanish indigenous language, wear non European indigenous clothes, and most importantly, do not identify themselves ethnically/culturally with Latin/Spanish. It appear that Chinano movement appropriated indigenous identity. It cause less embarassement doing so in U.S or in Mexico. Similar phenomeno can be seen in Scotland where majority of present Scottish population are Anglo Saxon, not Celt. Vapour

The CCIR is a marginally notable group, IMO, because they only seem to have one active member. At present that member is only notable for being its founder/chair/spokesperson which makes me doubt we'll every have a separate article on her. As for the CCIR article, please improve it any way you can. I couldn't find a mission statement on their website but something along those lines would be good if we can track one down. What works can be cited as references? I have looked at Wp's help pages and can't find an answer.

Let me clarify my question by way of example. In your Hector Garcia article you list two sources as references. Because I have read both of those books I know that you obtained all the information in your article from these two sources. There are a few other books out there which contain information about Dr. Garcia. They do not contain any new or different information than what was written in the sources you used, but they are more concise. For instance, in "Great Hispanic-Americans" published by PLI (2005), an entry of two pages is dedicated solely to Dr. Garcia. While I felt that they fell into the fair use category for one reason or another, I may have violated the gift agreements between the various donors and the archival institution where I am employed. For this reason, I have honored my boss's request to remove the images in order to avoid any possible legal or ethical issues. Hopefully, in time, I (or someone else) can make arrangements to restore them (or to replace them with even better images) in a way that respects the copyright holders' rights and the gift agreements between the donors and the archives. I apologize for the depreciation in quality of the articles in question and for the loss to the community, but I feel that this is the best course of action to take at this moment. The Mexican-American WikiProject is listed at WP:PROJDIR/H under the "Ethnic Groups" section. It links to two portals, the "Mexico" Portal and the "Culture" portal. I couln't find any links back to the Mex-Am project from either of these portals ... so I'm having difficultly understanding why the Mex-Am project is even linked to these portals. Whoever put that page together mistakenly listed the Portal:Mexico as our portal. We do not have our own portal yet, although we probably should. But portals require frequent updating, and as you know, I don't have the time to keep it up at the moment. Maybe next year. But if you want to get one started, I could probably give you a hand here and there. And many people do not realize the tremendous difference between illegal aliens and Chicanos! There's a quite interesting dialogue going on in the illegal aliens talk page. More interesting is the constant vandalism and the subsequent reverts. And even more interesting is the "psycho" (his description of himself, not mine) historian who appears to run the show and who also appears to have taken personal ownership of the article. You will find that the Portal:Mexico is mentioned as being a portal related to the Wikipedia:WikiProject Mexican-Americans on the project page. You will also note that several of the portals listed as being associated with the various projects are not, in fact, under the direction of the project which lists them. The portals were put in as a way for the various people associated with either the projects or portals to know which of the other deal with their subject. Again, a portal does not have to be directly associated with a project to be listed on the project entry, particularly if the project does not have a portal directly related to it. No "rules" that I know of. I've been wanting to add that project tag to our articles, but haven't gotten around to it. I don't think anyone will mind, as many articles fall under the purview of several projects. I've tagged hundreds of articles written by members of projects other than the one I was tagging for. The only thing you want to make sure of is that the language of the banner is not exclusive. For the banner in question, if you changed the beginning of the text to "(this article) is within the scope of WikiProject..." the only real objection any other groups could reasonably have would be effective silenced. They might be able to object to the current wording, though. I think it might be a good idea to make the phrasing less "proprietary", as it were. Badbilltucker 22:54, 16 November 2006 (UTC) reply

If you have the time, and only if you have the time, I want to discuss Guadalupe's role in the United Farm Workers' movement, in the Cristero Wars, and as a "dueling virgin" w/Remedios. Remedios I can handle, but so far my searching for information about the UFW/Cristero wars has only yielded that she was a flag for the former and a motto for the latter. Can you tell me, is there more to it than that? I'm not asking you to turn up the sources for me, just to tell me what I should be searching for.

I was thinking about starting a daughter page called "Documentation disputes" because I think this stuff is interesting and ought to be expanded, but am afraid it will freak out more casual readers. Ideally I'd like this article to be comprehensible and intriguing for, say, a high school student -- and I'm worried that doubling, tripling, or even quadrupling the document discussion (which would be easy, eh) would lose my dream High School Reader.

Finally, ifeito tagged the article as biased: I think he's the ip address who said it reads like a devotional article again. He didn't expand on that though, just left the tag. I don't think it reads like a devotional article -- that's certainly not my interest in writing about Guadalupe, anyway. But I could be missing something. Do you have any comment about that? I totally agree about having a section on popular devotion. Unfortunately I don't know anything about it and -- so far -- have been unable to find out much. I took your advice and went for a cruise in the databases looking for Chicana art and I did find "la virgen de guadalupe defendiendo todos los xicanos" (the title was something like that anyway, with a picture of a karate virgin that I WISH I WISH I WISH we could use. Though obviously not. On the topic of images I photoshopped and uploaded some, although after I did it I realized there was still the ghost of that black line...grr...I'm going to improve these images later but for now they'll have to do. (I liked the darkened one because you can see what's going on, but I imagine the paler one is more true to life. Do you know?) The images are on the Our Lady of Guadalupe page right now. I got most of the black line off the photo of the tilma, and then drew a picture of a virgin in a maguey (although it's kind of crude and I think I'll rework it over the holidays).

Someone just added a link to a site full of Guadalupe-related pictures from Los Angeles, including some personal altars and stuff like you were talking about. It's a pretty cool link. I wonder if the photographer would let us license one of her photos -- I especially like this one of the Virgin on a taco truck.

There was some mention of the promesas, and also of people traveling to Tepeyac on their knees, in the article before -- I chopped the whole section out in a fit of frustration, but I think that stuff should be re-added with citations. I'm citation-crazed right now. If you know stuff about that and can add it during the holidays that would be great -- I'd love to know more about it. I can't find much in the library about it...

I like the idea of a Guadalupe-related category. "Guadalupan writers" doesn't really work though because it doesn't contain Guillermo Schulenburg, Yolanda Lopez, or Antonio Valeriano (depending on who you talk to)...I mean, I guess it could, but we'd be stretching. I'm not very familiar with the category system. "People related to the history of the Virgin of Guadalupe" seems accurate but about fifty times too long.

Thanks for your concern about the Hispanic supremacy page. However, my adding of quotations for the word "supremacist" does not violate Wikipedia's NPOV policy. Those quotes listed are most definitely supremacist, and saying so is not being opinionated. For example, take a look at the white supremacy page; please note that the word "supremacist" in the phrase "Alleged or stated white supremacist websites" is not in quotation marks.

Since you probably a better feel for the topic (and because you welcomed the editor), could you please take a look at the recent edits to Academia Semillas del Pueblo by User:Azcatl.

I agree that the article was very unbalanced and negative before they edited the article today, but they deleted all the criticism, and added a huge amount of unreferenced information that is almost 180 degrees in the other direction. They even deleted plain factual information about the formation of the school.

The truth is probably somewhere inbetween, but I have no idea where. For now, all I'm going to do is add an {{ unreferenced}} tag to the article, because I don't have the time to do anything else. TIA Blank Verse 14:17, 7 February 2007 (UTC) reply

Hi, I am asking you, Will and Chicaneo to take a look at the aforementioned section on the talk page and offer your opinions. I think there is nothing violating NPOV in my additions. Basically, it is a recitation of the facts as stipulated to by Ms. Arellano in the legal brief filed on behalf of her son. If I'm wrong, fine, but if not, I think the tag needs to come off the article. I also would like to request that you call for a vote on the categories.
