Wikidata weekly summary #378
Here's your quick overview of what has been happening around Wikidata over the last week.
Current: Wikimania in Stockholm and hackathon, August 14 to 18. Check out
the list of all Wikidata-related events. Each session page should include notes, slides and streaming if available.
NameGuzzler allows you to automatically add an identical label or alias into many languages (for example, the name of a person or a place). You can define your own custom list of languages that you want to add.
New Wikidata-related projects developed during the Wikimania hackathon:
Documentation translation sprint: several people translated Wikidata help pages in their own language. Feel free to continue the efforts to make Wikidata more accessible!
Integraality generates tables to assess the completeness of properties on sets of items, such as
properties on railway stations for instance. Tables are automatically updated and highly configurable.
Starting from July 2019, Wikimedia Sverige and the Wikimedia Foundation's GLAM team work together to create a more sustainable technical infrastructure for global heritage and content partnerships.
Read more about this initiative on meta.wikimedia.org.
Editors using the mobile website on Wikipedia can opt-in to new
advanced features via your settings page. This will give access to more interface links, special pages, and tools.
The advanced version of the edit review pages (recent changes, watchlist, and related changes)
now includes two new filters. These filters are for "All contents" and "All discussions". They will filter the view to just those namespaces.
A
global request for comment is in progress regarding whether a user group should be created that could modify
edit filters across all public Wikimedia wikis.
moveClaim allows you to move or copy claims from one item to another. This is especially useful when splitting items, or creating lots of similar items.
Other Noteworthy Stuff
Seventh birthday of Wikidata: you can start thinking about organizing a meetup in your area to celebrate the birthday, or about a present for the community!
The first draft of
the program of the WikidataCon is now available. The content of the three main session rooms will be live-streamed and recorded for people who cannot participate in the conference.
Because of a database switch, Wikidata will be in read-only more on September 10th at 05:00 UTC, for max. 30min (
phab:T230762)
Recent tool:
@Wikidatabot, a Telegram bot that allows you to search for something on Wikidata from Telegram
New game:
Wikidata Mall, a Telegram management simulation game where content is generated from Wikidata
Wikidata got a high-resolution logo, thanks to
Odder (
phab:T230120)
New monolingual code languages are added, thanks to
Jon Harald Søby: TLI (Tlingit), clc (Tsilhqotʹin), alc (Kawésqar), kld (Gamilaraay), peo (Old Persian)
Fixed a bug in constraint violations indicator that was not showing up sometimes (
phab:T227866)
Make Lua's function mw.wikibase.entityExists return true for redirects (
phab:T192462)
Reviewed and followed up on highlighting statements when using "#P" in URL (
phab:T178745)
Wikidata Bridge: saving the Wikidata edit when submitting (
phab:T226999)
Showing the label for the Property instead of the id (
phab:T227759)
Overcoming a conceptional oversight between mediawiki and standard language codes (
phab:T231833)
Hello Mike, some colleagues (and me) would like to use the interconnections and additional informations which are provided by this very nice Wikidata-Infoboxes for category’s on Commons. Just to check out, how far this can be transferred, I installed some of the templates etc. within de:WP. It is nearly operational(?) ... but it might need some adjustments. Please see the test in
Kategorie:Fahrzeug. In would be very nice, if you can have a look and try to fix it. Best --

Hello Mike, just to let you know: it is working now
[1] after some more templates/modules I had to transfer additionally due to the nested structure. Based on this working example I'll try to develop a derivate only for categorys (without commons-upload-function). Best --

I support a merger of both articles as they obviously refer to the same person, but be aware that the actual name, as sourced by soccerway, seems to be Junior Chikwubuike Adamu [
[2]] and in reports like this:
[3] he is just referred to as Junior Adamu, so I guess the article title should either be Junior Adamu or Junior Chikwubuike Adamu. --

Well, it's not my area of expertise either and I also more or less stumbled across it during cleanup and maintenance work. I'll just leave a comment on the name on the respective talk pages then and leave it to the experts to sort that out. --

Wikidata weekly summary #382
Here's your quick overview of what has been happening around Wikidata over the last week.
Upcoming:
Wikidata Zurich Training in
Zurich on the weekend of November 2-3. There will be presentations and hands-on sessions on editing, querying and coding for Wikidata.
Namescript fills in labels, descriptions and aliases of items about names, making it easier to create such items (you only need to provide a few statements).

This
Recent changes tool allows to get a list of unpatrolled Wikidata changes with enhanced filters that are more adapted to Wikidata than the standard Recent Changes page. Available actions include mass patroling and easier revert interface.

User:Achim55/Links to redirecting pages on Commons. Yes, I know, a lot of broken links are caused by templates and are not that easy to fix, but simple links to Commons could be done by bot I think. Cheers, --

@
Achim55: Thanks for noticing! I'm running
Wikipedia:Bots/Requests for approval/Pi bot 4 for the obvious cases, but otherwise I'm working through subcategories of
Category:Commons category Wikidata tracking categories using
a pywikibot script that needs manual approval before saving the change (along the lines of AWB). If there are patterns that can be automatically fixed by bot, then I'm happy to code them up - but most cases I'm working through at the moment seem to be more complicated / politically complicated (it would be nice to just use the Commons sitelinks via Wikidata where there is a conflict, but I'm not sure that would go down too well here...). I will have a look at your maintenance lists soon, though, since there are caching issues with the tracking categories! Thanks.
