Welcome to the one hundred and seventy first
WikiProject Yorkshire monthly newsletter.
Thanks to the contributions of our many members and supporters,
WP:YORKS has become a leading local British WikiProject in terms of the total number of articles supported (up from 18,093 last month to 18,141 on 28 July 2022). In the area of GAs
WP:YORKS at 206 is ahead of
WP:GM who have 92.
WP:YORKS also has the lead in FAs at 89 while
WP:GM has 68 out of a total number of 4,753 articles.
Currently we have seventy two Yorkshire featured articles:
The number has been kept deliberately low to give us a fighting chance of improving them to at least GA status, also so we can concentrate our efforts on these first.
Yorkshire Day
Happy Yorkshire Day to all our members. Thanks to all for looking after the Yorkshire articles that we support as a project. Would be good if more members would get involved in improving the articles and in fixing the various problems flagged on the articles.
There are also a number of articles suggested on the project's
to-do list that need creating if you find the time to get them started.
WikiProject Yorkshire Collaboration of the Month Project
The August 2022 articles selected below are an editor choice as there were no nominations on the project talk page.
The project is subscribed to a
clean-up listing which lists articles tagged with various clean-up tags that need attention. The listing is refreshed by a bot on a regular basis.
Monitoring is essential Use the
watchlist to keep an eye on changes to the project's articles so that vandalism and spamming can be removed as quickly as possible.
Moves Please be careful when performing articles moves and ensure that you also move all the talk sub-pages and update any image fair use rational. Otherwise the archives, to-do lists, assessment comments and GA reviews get lost and the image may be deleted as it has an incorrect FUR. You will also have to check that the Commons link is set correctly.
Thanks

An RfC has been closed with consensus to add javascript that will show edit notices for editors editing via a mobile device. This only works for users using a mobile browser, so iOS app editors will still not be able to see edit notices.
An RfC has been closed with the consensus that train stations are not inherently notable.
Administrators will now see links on user pages for "Change block" and "Unblock user" instead of just "Block user" if the user is already blocked. (

Hi there, I noticed that you recently re-protected the wiki page for Brighton & Hove Albion following the vandalism edits once again. The Pascal Groß page has also been vandalised a lot in the last 24/28 hours. Do you think this qualifies for protection on this article also? Thanks

Hello, here's yet another VPN IP sock of

IP user continues
Heya, you were the latest person to block IP user
181.164.26.213, so figured I'd bring it to your attn. Although most of their edits aren't huge edits, their behavior hasn't changed since the last block, continuing to make disruptive edits.
Some particular points...They've been blocked twice already; 92 out of their 357 edits have been reverted since January, which isn't a sizeable number, but still worth noting; they've never entered in an edit description for any of those 357 edits, which isn't a requirement by any means, but it raises an eyebrow; although I didn't check every single edit, I am confident that the user has never used a reference tag before, or made an attempt to reference something, I've checked most of the edits which had higher character counts hoping to see one, but I saw nothing; every time someone edits their talk page, they immediately blank it, making it seem like nothing happened, which again isn't against the rules but is still odd behavior; they haven't replied to any of the aforementioned discussions on their talk page, including the one where I tried to steer them in the right direction; and no attempt at registering a username.
Making edits on the whim with no sources + no effort in following the guidelines + ignoring other users, is unfortunately, the type of user that backpedals the progress here on Wikipedia. Sorry for the slightly long rant, I don't know what else would make them at least acknowledge or change something. Anything.

Ha. I was an English Quebecer many years ago. My French is still pretty good, but no longer colloquial enough (or recent enough?) to have been familiar with "faux-nez" in the internet context. I'm sure many French editors find "sock puppets" to be as amusing as I do "faux-nez".

Malcolmxl5 (

There is no issue "with content" of any article. It's a vandalism issue of someone, that's not the only article vandalised. You only protected one so he can keep his vandalism unreverted, and you are refusing to fix your mistake. Even if you fully protect all affected articles, he will find some other movie articles to add his name. It's not about a content of one article.

Wiki Loves Monuments
September is the time for the annual Wiki Loves Monuments competition to get quality photographs of listed buildings and scheduled monuments in the UK. It would be good if any members in the Yorkshire area got out and about taking images of any monuments or listed buildings that they find. There are still several entries on the various list articles without images and it would be best to prioritise these if you are in the right place. Details for this years competition can be
found here. There are cash prises of up to £250 for the best images that are submitted.
If you are not in Yorkshire then you are still able to join in as the competition covers the whole of the UK, separate competitions are available for other areas of the world if you are not UK based.

Hello,
Thank you for protecting Mohammad Rizwan (Pakistani cricketer)’s page from vandalism. I will elevate this if i freaking have to. You dont get to make a subjective moral and hypothetical call on a policy issue, than prevent any attempts to have an actual NPOV editor review it. Hi
Adakiko, we have a high quality, secondary source, The Times, so we don't need the tweet itself. I'm not sure how well regarded GB News is but the article itself seems to be a fairly straightforward recital of the facts so let's add that as a citation. --

Hi Malcolm, I just want to give a follow up on the events on the talk page of

comment of Leontrooper was without reasoning. He even made a
vandalistic post on the page. I made this action partly undone and I will reinstate the version of
yesterday, without the plagiarism thing. I have done this because I think this user is beyond reasoning. He even placed a personal attack on me on the Dutch Wiki. I hope I've updated you enough on this matter, and If you think some things on the page still could be improved I'm willingly to help.

Jevin Hodge
I don't know if deleted pages are totally thrown away, or if an admin can access them. In March 2018, the Jevin Hodge article was correctly deleted by you after this discussion:
Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Jevin Hodge. Now that he is poised to be elected to the 118th Congress, his draft article at
Draft:Jevin Hodge looks rather bare. I was wondering if the old deleted article could be placed on
the draft's talk page to be mined for relevant material? If possible, it would make the library research and editing go faster. --

Persistent unhelpful editing
Hi @malcolmxl5, and many thanks for all your help with this. I'll let you know if and when they re-appear (usually it's in the afternoon for a few minutes). I've been looking at some of the articles they edited on the list you provided and doing some tidying up (and boy did some of them need tidying up). One of their edits was very recognisable: an article referred to No. 73, which they changed to No. #73. I have told them that No. and # mean the same, but they do seem to like having both - it's quite endearing, in a way, that one!
Neilinabbey (

Hi. Sorry to bother you again but I imagine you've got your work cut out investigating this issue so I thought it might be helpful to give you a few pages that I think particularly illustrate the user's behaviour. They are all pages where they have made multiple edits, often repeat edits after previous ones have been reverted; they also show that other editors have also been reverting this user's edits, not just me. They also show typical edits, such as putting things into italics for no clear reason and a particular favourite, a curious linguistic edit in which 'a' is changed to 'one', as in 'set in a cemetery' becomes 'set in one cemetery', and 'XXX was a concept car' becomes 'XXX was one concept car'.
In all of these pages, they have used multiple IP addresses but they all, or mostly all, start with 8 so should be easily identifiable.
The pages are:
Nunnery Wood High School
Sark Football Team
National Indoor BMX Arena
Maurice Peddelty
Sin-Jin Smyth
Anyway, I'll leave you in peace as I'm sure you're very busy with this and other issues, but I thought this might help a little. Regards,

Hi Malcolmxl5. I hope you're enjoying the rugby - I watched the wheelchair match last night, great stuff. Just an update for you: they are still busy adding u helpful edits, currently as 86.4.170.56. They've not responded on Talk to any comments. I'd bring one particular page to your attention, Rumbelows. They edited this yesterday. It looks like they've been editing this page on and off for years, since at least 2016. The page was an absolute mess (not all their fault, I hasten to add), full of very poor-quality and unidiomatic English and syntax, grammatical issues, irrelevant or superfluous detail, references that did not support what they were supposed to be supporting, subjective and unencyclopaedic language... I have tried to tidy it up but didn't have time to do this fully. Also, they edited another of their favourite pages, that for the Dean of Blackburn. They added in spaces between words and citations, but only for some of the citations, not all, leaving the page inconsistent. Not a very big issue, but indicative of a rather erratic style and utterly pointless. I've not seen them today, but I expect I soon will. Regards,

Hi - just a quick update. They are currently using 92.28.150.80. I've been on holiday for the last week and not online every day, but I did notice that in my absence at least two other editors had reverted all or nearly all of their daily edits on a couple of days, which if nothing else shows it's not just me!

Anything.

I guess it won't be necessary after all. "Rep. David Schweikert defeats Jevin Hodge in 1st District." --

Regards,

@
Malcolmxl5, excellent, enjoy the matches! I've been enjoying the rugby union version, but sadly only on TV!
