Administrators
must secure their accounts
The Arbitration Committee may require a new RfA if your account is compromised.
|
This message was sent to all administrators following a recent motion. Thank you for your attention. For the Arbitration Committee, Cameron11598 02:41, 4 May 2019 (UTC)
ArbCom would like to apologise and correct our previous mass message in light of the response from the community.
Since November 2018, six administrator accounts have been compromised and temporarily desysopped. In an effort to help improve account security, our intention was to remind administrators of existing policies on account security — that they are required to "have strong passwords and follow appropriate personal security practices." We have updated our procedures to ensure that we enforce these policies more strictly in the future. The policies themselves have not changed. In particular, two-factor authentication remains an optional means of adding extra security to your account. The choice not to enable 2FA will not be considered when deciding to restore sysop privileges to administrator accounts that were compromised.
We are sorry for the wording of our previous message, which did not accurately convey this, and deeply regret the tone in which it was delivered.

Since the introduction of temporary user rights, it is becoming more usual to accord the New Page Reviewer right on a probationary period of 3 to 6 months in the first instance. This avoids rights removal for inactivity at a later stage and enables a review of their work before according the right on a permanent basis.

So I updated my current position (I moved in 2018 to a different university) and also added a previous publication from 2009 and a new book from 2020. I'm still in the process of putting together the details, but I wanted to share the date with you: 27 June, 2021. I do not have a time on this date yet, but I will let you soon. A recently closed Request for Comment (RFC) reached consensus to remove Autopatrolled from the administrator user group. You may, similarly as with Edit Filter Manager, choose to self-assign this permission to yourself. This will be implemented the week of December 13th, but if you wish to self-assign you may do so now. To find out when the change has gone live or if you have any questions please visit the Administrator's Noticeboard. 20:06, 7 December 2021 (UTC)
Hi!
You get this message because you are an admin on a Wikimedia wiki.
When someone edits a Wikimedia wiki without being logged in today, we show their IP address. As you may already know, we will not be able to do this in the future. This is a decision by the Wikimedia Foundation Legal department, because norms and regulations for privacy online have changed.
Instead of the IP we will show a masked identity. You as an admin will still be able to access the IP. There will also be a new user right for those who need to see the full IPs of unregistered users to fight vandalism, harassment and spam without being admins. Patrollers will also see part of the IP even without this user right. We are also working on better tools to help.
If you have not seen it before, you can read more on Meta. If you want to make sure you don’t miss technical changes on the Wikimedia wikis, you can subscribe to the weekly technical newsletter.
We have two suggested ways this identity could work. We would appreciate your feedback on which way you think would work best for you and your wiki, now and in the future. You can let us know on the talk page. You can write in your language. The suggestions were posted in October and we will decide after 17 January.
Thank you. / Johan (WMF)

Could you do me a favour and take a look at WP:AIV. there are quite a few reports that have been waiting a while and are still vandalising. dmartin969 06:09, 6 December 2019 (UTC)

Sorry to bother you, but you recently protected the page Atlanta, and all of the edits made by this ip address are very inappropriate, so they should be deleted. Lcodyh803 ( talk) 03:00, 30 January 2020 (UTC)

wide-spread support for an alternative desysoping procedure based on community input. No proposed process received consensus.
that checkuser and oversight blocks must not be reversed or modified without prior consultation with the checkuser or oversighter who placed the block, the respective functionary team, or the Arbitration Committee.
Right there I wanted to thank you for blocking that vandal, instead I accidentally pressed the rollback button. Sorry for that and thanks for being around ready to block misbehaving editors! Best, Tymon.r Do you have any questions? 01:10, 8 February 2020 (UTC)
Please reblock Mrroyezra23 without talk page access. The user is blatantly abusing it. funplussmart ( talk) 20:19, 8 February 2020 (UTC)
Oops. We just overlapped in blocking User:69.74.139.163, and I inadvertantly increased the block period you applied. Feel free to revert it if you feel it was too long for a second block. Nick Moyes ( talk) 14:27, 24 February 2020 (UTC)
Hi. Please excuse my lack of Wikipedia literacy. I tried to edit my page (Anthony David Neuropsychiatrist) yesterday because someone pointed out to me that it was out of date. So I updated my current position (I moved in 2018 to a different university) and also added a previous publication from 2009 and a new book from 2020. I didn't realise until now that I am not able to edit my own page, hence all the edits have been deleted. I would like to ask that these edits are reinstated. I can confirm that I am not in breach of any of the Wiki guidelines Anthony.S.David ( talk) 14:05, 3 March 2020 (UTC)

At List of Ugandans by net worth, the page is attracting a lot of vandalism from unregistered editors. I am requesting you to partially block the site so that only confirmed editors can edit the page, at least for several months in the future. Maybe that will discourage the bad guys. Thanks. Upon reviewing the block logs on the template, possible to have the template salted for creation? Seems like a repeated vandal using the same template name. – robertsky ( talk) 03:22, 2 July 2020 (UTC)
May I persuade you to increase your block to 2607:FEA8:A940:7DC::/64? The same user has been also using the address 2607:FEA8:A940:7DC:5596:5E2:D510:2A3E to make the same kind of vandalism tonight. Seems to have been alternating between the two. Regards, Tarl N. ( discuss) 04:40, 4 August 2020 (UTC)
Thanks for blocking that swine, but if you do, please also remove talk page and email access. Thanks, Drmies ( talk) 13:56, 28 September 2020 (UTC)

Thanks for protecting the article just now. I didn't realize that he is one of the impeachment managers when I posted the RPP, but looking back at the IP vandal edits, it is clear that they were focused on that role. Perhaps temp protection for more than a couple of days might be in order? Thanks! Geoff | Who, me? 00:41, 11 February 2021 (UTC)
Can user:MENGONTOL please be blocked ASAP for vandalism. If you look at the article history, you will see that this is likely the same person behind the IP who already received a level 4 warning. CLCStudent ( talk) 13:06, 14 February 2021 (UTC)
Yeah thanks for accepting the request. They were being very disruptive and quite frankly, rude as well (Exhibit 1: https://en.wikipedia.org/?title=Persona_5&diff=1008391031&oldid=1008390648&diffmode=source). Thanks again, and have a great night. ;D — Preceding unsigned comment added by WiiBoi ( talk • contribs) 02:28, 23 February 2021 (UTC)

Greetings,
I'm letting you know in advance about a meeting I'd like to invite you to regarding the Universal Code of Conduct and the community's ownership of its future enforcement. I'm still in the process of putting together the details, but I wanted to share the date with you: 27 June, 2021. I do not have a time on this date yet, but I will let you soon. We have created a meta page with basic information. Please take a look at the meta page and sign up your name under the appropriate section.
Thank you for your time.-- BAnand (WMF) 02:49, 3 June 2021 (UTC)
Please remove talk page access of 88.105.156.32 ( talk · contribs · deleted contribs · filter log · WHOIS · RDNS · RBLs · http · block user · block log) which you recently blocked as they are misusing their talk page by using it for personal attack. Pachu Kannan ( talk) 03:14, 26 November 2021 (UTC)

Hello! Voting in the 2022 Arbitration Committee elections is now open until 23:59 (UTC) on Monday, 12 December 2022. All eligible users are allowed to vote. Users with alternate accounts may only vote once.
The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to impose binding solutions to disputes between editors, primarily for serious conduct disputes the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the authority to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail.
If you wish to participate in the 2022 election, please review
the candidates and submit your choices on the
voting page. If you no longer wish to receive these messages, you may add {{
