But why do we as Wikipedians care to facilitate that?

This is a message from the Wikimedia Foundation. Translations are available.
As you may know, the Wikimedia Foundation Board of Trustees approved a new "Access to nonpublic information policy" on 25 April 2014 after a community consultation. The former policy has remained in place until the new policy could be implemented. That implementation work is now being done, and we are beginning the transition to the new policy.
An important part of that transition is helping volunteers like you sign the required confidentiality agreement. All Wikimedia volunteers with access to nonpublic information are required to sign this new agreement, and we have prepared some documentation to help you do so.
The Wikimedia Foundation is requiring that anyone with access to nonpublic information sign the new confidentiality agreement by 15 December 2015 (OTRS users have until 22 December 2015) to retain their access. You are receiving this email because you have access to nonpublic information and are required to sign the confidentiality agreement under the new policy.
Signing the confidentiality agreement for nonpublic information is conducted and tracked using Legalpad on Phabricator. The general confidentiality agreement is now ready, and the OTRS agreement will be ready after 22 September 2015. We have prepared a guide on Meta-Wiki to help you create your Phabricator account and sign the new agreement: Confidentiality agreement for nonpublic information/How to sign
If you have any questions or experience any problems while signing the new agreement, please visit this talk page or email me (gvarnumwikimedia.org). Again, please sign this confidentiality agreement by 15 December 2015 (OTRS users have until 22 December 2015) to retain your access to nonpublic information. If you do not wish to retain this access, please let me know and we will forward your request to the appropriate individuals.
Thank you,

It allows more experienced editors (who have privileged to edit locked articles) to make changes like the one today that is unfortunately unsubstantiated by the source. If you look at the editors history /info/en/?search=User:Phil_A._Fry with the article he/she seems to be invested in one point of view about the birth dates and continually makes the same edit over and over again over time. I don't know if Kinross Gold is still on your watch list but it has undergone a large amount of edits by User:WSDavitt. The article now includes statements like "Kinross is on the verge of insolvency", "Continuing Kinross' practice of overpaying for assets", "Due Diligence Was Grossly Inadequate", "Shareholders Were Misled About the Value of Assets Being Acquired", "Unreliable Estimates of Proven and Probable Reserves ", and so on, mostlty unreferenced. To me there seems to be an agenda there by the editor in question. What do you think? Calistemon ( talk) 04:46, 21 November 2015 (UTC)
User talk:WSDavitt The information is based on the publicly available documents from Kinross Gold's public securities filings and newspaper reports. Nothing controversial. —Preceding undated comment added 04:59, 21 November 2015 (UTC)
Hello, I'm WSDavitt. Thank you for your feedback. Regarding Kinross Gold and the section "Tasiast Acquisition - One of the Largest Securities and Accounting Frauds in Canadian History" referenced to this the better references are the Canadian court decisions dealing with this issue. See Bayens v Kinross - https://www.canlii.org/en/on/onsc/doc/2013/2013onsc6864/2013onsc6864.html?searchUrlHash=AAAAAQAGYmF5ZW5zAAAAAAE&resultIndex=7 and https://www.canlii.org/en/on/onca/doc/2014/2014onca901/2014onca901.html?searchUrlHash=AAAAAQAGYmF5ZW5zAAAAAAE&resultIndex=9. These cases were referenced in the article (but have being deleted). Please note the cases in Canada and the US were settled and tens of millions dollars were paid out by Kinross. Kinross has not offered any meaningful explanation for the $8 billion of losses incurred during the 3 or 4 years after the Tasiast acquisition.
Hi, it's WSDavitt Thank you for your comments. Regarding the 6.0 million ounce decrease in reported gold reserves at Paracatu, the amount of reserves are reported in the Annual Reports published by Kinross. This isn't a controversial issue. Is your preference to describe this a "significant changes" in the reported reserves rather than "unreliable"? I am interested in your comments and would like the deleted content in the article restored. The Kinross story related to Tasiast is a very interesting story including a class action lawsuit, bribery allegations, etc. My post notes the inconsistencies in statements made by Kinross at various points in time. ( talk) 13:04, 21 November 2015 (UTC)
Hi, it's WSDavitt Regarding Kinross' financial position I note that the credit rating for Kinross was downgraded earlier this year. The Ba1 rating is non-investment grade. This supports the statement that Kinross has insolvency concerns. In addition, the gold price has decreased significantly. See https://www.moodys.com/research/Moodys-Downgrades-Kinross-to-Ba1-Outlook-Negative--PR_320647 WSDavitt ( talk) 19:18, 21 November 2015 (UTC)WSDavitt

The account you blocked a few minutes ago, Vhs-dvd-vhs2, is pretty much guaranteed to be the most recent sockpuppet account of Caidin Johnson. The references to "Wubbzy Song" and "BreakABall" are amongst his current tactics. You might want to add the "Wikipedia sockpuppets of Caidin-Johnson" category to the user profile page so it's tagged properly.
There's another account you might want to look into. Idkradical96 made an edit to one of the same pages (Bubble gum) 39 minutes prior to the edit by the Vhs-dvd-vhs2 account, but that account was created within 4 minutes of the last edit by the Idkradical96. Another similarity is the interest in the state of Florida, which is where I've been able to figure out where Caidin is located. If the Checkuser report shows the IPs of both accounts are from the same geographical area, then it becomes very likely that both accounts are his.
Caidin has been just as much of a problem over on Wikia's wikis, so I've been helping out with trying to fend him off over there. If requested, I can supply a list of the accounts he's used on Wikia. There's a few patterns in his choices, which might help with detecting him here. Some are pretty much blatant, such as "IAmCaidin" or "CAIDIN2000Returns". — RRabbit42 ( talk) 01:32, 29 December 2015 (UTC)

Hi there, seen you email. Thanks for that, I think it was just a troll. No, it's not my name, not even close. The only interaction I had with the IP was after it made edits to a page, I fixed one of the headers from "Books Published" to "Books published", and one of the headers was giving a nesting of =, so I fixed it to ==, explained in an edit summary why I was making the changes. I guess the IP didn't like what I did, reverted and left the message. It's funny how some people get upset even when you make small common manual of style edits. I wonder if you could restore the deleted revisions of the page Draft:Katch 22? I had nominated it for deletion and then was conversing with the creator and another editor with an interest in editing it, and I forgot about the MfD before I went away for a few days. I see it's been deleted, and an older draft moved over the page from the creator's user space. Since it seems they intend to continue working on it and the deleted version is much better (and includes other declined AfC submissions) I think it would be better to restore the larger article. Just so you know this edit is problematic because it corrects the page to your preferred version and is an example of an abrogation of WP:ADMINBESTPRACTICE. You can either choose to revert the page or protect the page, but not both.
jps ( talk) 19:12, 29 December 2015 (UTC)
Please understand that "administrative discretion" in this case looks to those of us like myself who object to your reasoning as a kind of heavy-handed "I get my way because I have the tools" argument. jps ( talk) 20:23, 29 December 2015 (UTC)

...administrators may also revert to an old version of the page predating the edit war if such a clear point exists.Kelapstick had the protection expire when the edit war will be resolved by the RFC. It is common practice to lift page protection when consensus is reached. This is what the RFC will do. Notice, there was NO mention of the RFC for the why and how of page protection. Kelapstick has not been involved in the RFC and acted as an uninvolved admin. He acted because of a request at WP:RFPP. One of ~20 such requests Kelapstick acted upon that day at RFPP.
Congrats on your shiny new fez. When do we get to see a photo? Bgwhite ( talk) 05:08, 8 January 2016 (UTC)
No such thing really, I'm just suggesting that, regardless of all the evidence of incivility, there's clear evidence of abuse of admin tools based on involved blocks. If you don't see that, or agree with that, I understand, but as I said, if that's how this plays out, that's why Arbcom is a laughing stock. The very least you lot can do is to get the guts to examine all aspects of this behaviour. Just because this editor appears to be some kind of a hero at rejecting bad editors, it doesn't mean he should be allowed to (a) curse unreservedly and (b) block while involved. On 30 August 2015, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article Mining industry of Tanzania, which you recently created, substantially expanded, or brought to good article status. The fact was ... that airborne silica exposure in Tanzanian mines is more than three hundred times the limit set by NIOSH in the United States? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/Mining industry of Tanzania. You are welcome to check how many page hits the article got while on the front page ( here's how, live views, daily totals), and it may be added to the statistics page if the total is over 5,000.
Thank you,

Could you unlock Generation Z? Oct 2nd was too long of a lock.

According to you the text should be per status quo. It was in the lede before. It was removed in 2015. Please restore to the last consensus version before it was removed. QuackGuru ( talk) 20:44, 29 December 2015 (UTC)
...administrators may also revert to an old version of the page predating the edit war if such a clear point exists.Kelapstick had the protection expire when the edit war will be resolved by the RFC.
