Hi, thanks for your comment on the Natural-language generation move request. I just wanted to note that the article is not about generation of natural language in general (e.g. the thing we humans do when we speak/write), but rather about a highly specific subfield of computer science and AI research that is known solely by the unhyphenated term in the scientific literature. - Ljleppan ( talk) 16:05, 5 October 2021 (UTC)

News and updates for administrators from the past month (October 2021).
The WikiCup is over for another year and the finalists can relax! Our Champion this year is The Rambling Man ( submissions), who amassed over 5000 points in the final round, achieving 8 featured articles and almost 500 reviews. It was a very competitive round; seven of the finalists achieved over 1000 points in the round (enough to win the 2019 contest), and three scored over 3000 (enough to win the 2020 event). Our 2021 finalists and their scores were:
All those who reached the final round will win awards. The following special awards will be made based on high performance in particular areas of content creation and review. Awards will be handed out in the next few days.
Congratulations to everyone who participated in this year's WikiCup, whether they made it to the final round or not, and particular congratulations to the newcomers to the WikiCup, some of whom did very well. Wikipedia has benefitted greatly from the quality creations, expansions and improvements made, and the numerous reviews performed. Thanks to all who have taken part and helped out with the competition, not forgetting User:Jarry1250, who runs the scoring bot.
If you have views on whether the rules or scoring need adjustment for next year's contest, please comment on the WikiCup talk page. Next year's competition will begin on 1 January. You are invited to sign up to participate; the WikiCup is open to all Wikipedians, both novices and experienced editors, and we hope to see you all in the 2022 competition. Until then, it only remains to once again congratulate our worthy winners, and thank all participants for their involvement! I have been setting up subpages for the POTD for 25 November, and I find the wording of the caption is a bit of a minefield, and likely to receive error reports when it hits the main page. The problem is with what entity issued the banknotes. Connecticut is clear Template:POTD/2021-11-25/1, it was a colony in 1775 when it issued the banknote, but who issued the New York banknote Template:POTD/2021-11-25/8, and was New York a province, a colony or what, and what did the New-York Waterworks have to do with the matter? How would you suggest dealing with this problem? I see that the reverse of the New York note just states "New-York, printed by H. Gaine." and that might be a way of getting round things. Cwmhiraeth ( talk) 12:07, 7 November 2021 (UTC)
Many thanks for closing that difficult RM, Amakura. That's a good and balanced summary. But I do have a request. There were in fact three oppose votes, but that fact is not clear from what you wrote. All three of the oppose votes preferred retention of the existing title for the time being (though not all for the same reason). Would you mind amending your summary, to make this plain to anyone reviewing this RM when future RMs are raised for the article? They almost certainly will be. 114.72.76.18 ( talk) 22:22, 10 November 2021 (UTC)

News and updates for administrators from the past month (November 2021).
A recently closed Request for Comment (RFC) reached consensus to remove Autopatrolled from the administrator user group. You may, similarly as with Edit Filter Manager, choose to self-assign this permission to yourself. This will be implemented the week of December 13th, but if you wish to self-assign you may do so now. To find out when the change has gone live or if you have any questions please visit the Administrator's Noticeboard. 20:05, 7 December 2021 (UTC)
Hi Amakuru, I just wanted to let you know that I have added the "autopatrolled" permission to your account, as you have created numerous, valid articles. This feature will have no effect on your editing, and is simply intended to reduce the workload on new page patrollers. For more information on the autopatrolled right, see Wikipedia:Autopatrolled. However, you should consider adding relevant wikiproject talk-page templates, stub-tags and categories to new articles that you create if you aren't already in the habit of doing so, since your articles will no longer be systematically checked by other editors ( User:Evad37/rater and User:SD0001/StubSorter.js are useful scripts which can help). Feel free to leave me a message if you have any questions. Happy editing! —usernamekiran • sign the guestbook • (talk) 20:34, 7 December 2021 (UTC)

The article Bvi has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:
Does not meet WP:GNG I think, as I could not find a single independant source discussing bvi apart from some documentation/download pages.
While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.
You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}}
notice, but please explain why in your
edit summary or on
the article's talk page.
Please consider improving the page to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}}
will stop the
proposed deletion process, but other
deletion processes exist. In particular, the
speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and
articles for deletion allows discussion to reach
consensus for deletion.

Hello, I just wanted to apologize for moving the page without discussion on the Talk Page, I accidently ignored it and recently came to realization. I moved the pages of Ibn Saud, Saud of Saudi Arabia, Faisal bin Abdulaziz, Khalid bin Abdulaziz, and Fahd bin AbdulaziZ. I stopped short after realization. I was wondering if you can move them back or maybe I can try to. Once again, I apologize.

Hey, I just have a question regarding the talk page of "Ibn Saud". I need to gain some popularity for my post there because no one has been responding for a while, whereas in other discussions, people have responded within a day. Now my question is how can I do that? I tried editing my post today to try to make a stronger point, but I'm unsure if anyone will respond at this pace. It's regarding a title change, and maybe you can vote there if you really want to. I just want to see if both sides can come to an agreement. Xpërt3 ( talk) 22:17, 7 January 2022 (UTC)
Hi!
You get this message because you are an admin on a Wikimedia wiki.
When someone edits a Wikimedia wiki without being logged in today, we show their IP address. As you may already know, we will not be able to do this in the future. This is a decision by the Wikimedia Foundation Legal department, because norms and regulations for privacy online have changed.
Instead of the IP we will show a masked identity. You as an admin will still be able to access the IP. There will also be a new user right for those who need to see the full IPs of unregistered users to fight vandalism, harassment and spam without being admins. Patrollers will also see part of the IP even without this user right. We are also working on better tools to help.
If you have not seen it before, you can read more on Meta. If you want to make sure you don’t miss technical changes on the Wikimedia wikis, you can subscribe to the weekly technical newsletter.
We have two suggested ways this identity could work. We would appreciate your feedback on which way you think would work best for you and your wiki, now and in the future. You can let us know on the talk page. You can write in your language. The suggestions were posted in October and we will decide after 17 January.
Thank you. / Johan (WMF)

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}}
notice, but please explain why in your
edit summary or on
the article's talk page.
Please consider improving the page to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}}
will stop the
proposed deletion process, but other
deletion processes exist.
