In one month's time, we will know our WikiCup 2014 champion. Newcomer
Godot13 (
submissions) has taken a strong lead with a featured list (
historical coats of arms of the U.S. states from 1876) and a raft of featured pictures. Reigning champion
Cwmhiraeth (
submissions) is in second place with a number of high-importance biology articles, including new FA
Isopoda and new GA
least weasel.
Casliber (
submissions), who is in his fifth WikiCup final, is in third, with featured articles
Pictor and
Epacris impressa.
Signups for the 2015 WikiCup are open. All Wikipedians, new and experienced, are warmly invited to sign up for the competition. Wikipedians interested in friendly competition may also like to sign up for the GA Cup, a new WikiCup-inspired competition which revolves around completing good article reviews. As ever, questions are welcome on Wikipedia talk:WikiCup, and the judges are reachable on their talk pages or by email. Good luck! If you wish to start or stop receiving this newsletter, please feel free to add or remove yourself from Wikipedia:WikiCup/Newsletter/Send. Per WP:SAMPLE, non-free samples should be no more than 10% of the song or 30 seconds, whichever is shorter. As the song is 2:59, or 179 seconds, 10% (if we round down) would be 17 seconds. Further, the sample should be no more than about 64kbps, but it's currently at 150kbps. J Milburn ( talk) 16:24, 1 October 2014 (UTC)
AJona1992,

I've given this a pass over for the GOCE backlog drive. Could you elaborate on what needed to be done? Aside from a few corrections, I didn't see anything substantial, but also don't want to overlook anything that you thought was necessary? LS1979 ( talk) 17:36, 1 November 2014 (UTC)
The 2014 WikiCup champion is
Godot13 (
submissions), who flew the flag of the
Smithsonian Institution. This was Godot13's first WikiCup competition and, over the 10 months of the competition, he has produced (among other contributions) two featured lists and an incredible 292 featured pictures, including architectural photographs and scans of historical documents.
Cwmhiraeth (
submissions), 2012 and 2013 WikiCup champion, came in second, having written a large number of biology-related articles.
Casliber (
submissions), WikiCup finalist every year since 2010, finished in third.
A full list of our prize-winners follows:
Congratulations to everyone who has been successful in this year's WikiCup, whether you made it to the final rounds or not, and a particular congratulations to the newcomers to the WikiCup who have participated this year. We warmly invite all of you to sign up for next year's competition. Discussions and polls concerning potential rules changes are also open, and all are welcome to participate. The WikiCup judges will be back in touch over the coming months, and we hope to see you all in the 2014 competition. Until then, it only remains to once again congratulate our worthy winners, and thank all participants for their involvement! I think you might find this and this to be useful. These are Mexican newspapers archives you can use that I'm sure will help you more on Selena articles during her earlier career. They helped me a lot when writing for Romance (Luis Miguel album). Cheers! Erick ( talk) 23:01, 3 September 2014 (UTC)
I'll definitely keep on that mind. ;) Did you hear about the RIAA now certifying Latin Digital Songs? They started it last December. Maybe some of Selena's songs will be certified? They kept ranking on the Regional Mexican Digital Songs even years after her passing. Erick ( talk) 23:37, 3 September 2014 (UTC)
You know, now that you mention it, the Latin music industry hasn't been too well lately. Nowadays, a Latin album is lucky to even surpass 100,000 copies (hence the RIAA lowering it again), whereas in the 90's, a popular Latin album could go platinum for a million copies like nothing. Most of my music consists of pop/tropical music from the 80's to early 00's (btw, only Darte un Beso is from Prince Royce). These days, I still stick to tropical music, but it's mainly populated by bachata music and mambo music. Salsa's been down, except for Marc Anthony and Victor Manuelle of course. I could a search some time and I think you'll go glad to know they charts although it's only Mexico City ( WP:SINGLENETWORK allows artists who has strong nationality ties to have charts one vendor if no other appropriate chart can be found for the country). Strangely enough, a WikiProject for pop music never existed until I proposed it a few months. Erick ( talk) 00:27, 4 September 2014 (UTC)
I can see it now. A song by Selena featured on UMLE's greatest Latin hits of the 90's. The only other female Tejano singer I thought was really good in the 90's after Selena's death was Alicia Villareal when she was with Grupo Limite. Erick ( talk) 23:21, 4 September 2014 (UTC)
Do you want to go ahead and nominate the Billboard Hall of Fame FL? I kind of get tired of waiting for the DYK review and I learned you don't have to wait for the DYK to finish before nominating it FL. Erick ( talk) 01:05, 21 October 2014 (UTC)
The improvements for Celia Cruz has been halted until I take care of that thing. In the meantime, could you do another search for when Billboard decides to induct someone into the Hall of Fame? Erick ( talk) 20:21, 4 November 2014 (UTC)
Maybe it isn't my place to say this but, some of the articles tagged like " Buenos Amigos" and " Donde Quiera Que Estes" under the Regional Mexican task force don't really make sense given neither of them are a Regional Mexican song. I'm assuming, of course, that the purpose of the Regional Mexican task force is to cover recordings that fall under the Regional Mexican genre not simply because the artist is one. In the meantime, I've also done some tagging for the task force including the GAs. Erick ( talk) 04:05, 12 November 2014 (UTC)

I agree with adding a description and I'm actually considering withdrawing the nominations so we can revamp the list and prose per the FLC suggestions but I wanted to know if that's okay with you or if you intend making the changes together now. Cheers! EDIT: Oh yeah, and I have opened a FAC for Romance (Luis Miguel album). If you have the time, could you please have a look and leave a comment on the FAC? Round one of the 2015 WikiCup has begun! So far we've had around 80 signups, which close on February 5. If you have not already signed up and want to do so, then you can add your name here. There have been changes to to several of the points scores for various categories, and the addition of Peer Reviews for the first time. These will work in the same manner as Good Article Reviews, and all of the changes are summarised here.
Remember that only the top 64 scoring competitors will make it through to the second round, and one of the new changes this year is that all scores must be claimed within two weeks of an article's promotion or appearance, so don't forget to add them to your submissions pages! If you are concerned that your nomination will not receive the necessary reviews, and you hope to get it promoted before the end of the round, please list it on
Wikipedia:WikiCup/Reviews. However, please remember to continue to offer reviews at GAN, FAC and all the other pages that require them to prevent any backlogs which could otherwise be caused by the Cup. As ever, questions are welcome on
Wikipedia talk:WikiCup and the judges are reachable on their talk pages. Good luck!

Good luck!

Thanks again for review Romance. BTW, Remember that time you showed me a picture of Dreaming of You and Amor Prohibido being Diamond certified but I wasn't sure if it was from the RIAA? It turns out, it is! =D On an unrelated note, all the Lo Nuestro award ceremonies articles have made and it has most of the nominations for each one. Erick ( talk) 09:08, 30 January 2015 (UTC)
Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that when you edited Selena, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page D.A.R.E.. Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.
