In Anglophone countries such as the United States, the equivalent of the Polish " święto" is not " holiday" but simply "day" — e.g., " New Year's Day," " Martin Luther King Day," " Memorial Day," " Independence Day," " Labor Day," " Veterans Day," " Thanksgiving Day," " Christmas Day."
Thus the English equivalent of "Święto Konstytucji 3 Maja" would be "May 3rd Constitution Day."
"May 3 National Holiday," by comparison, is opaque in the extreme.
English-language equivalents of foreign terms are often paraphrastic rather than metaphrastic. Example: " Rzeczpospolita Obojga Narodów" is rendered in Wikipedia not literally (metaphrastically) as "Republic of the Two Nations" but descriptively (paraphrastically) as " Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth." A very interesting article. I have a few comments and suggestions.
