As a note, I was linked to here from the fathoms page. This described a skein as 50 fathoms of fishing line, which is not mentioned on this page. I'm guessing it should either be added or the fathoms page corrected, but I don't know which. 94.193.240.211 ( talk) 23:07, 19 April 2011 (UTC)
The article on balista refers to the bundle of fibres used to power the weapon as a skein. Dawright12 ( talk) 12:21, 7 March 2012 (UTC)
In Scifi, skein is used to describe regular space-time, e.g. Iain M. Banks (pretty sure it is explicitly defined in hydrogen sonata). Googling hyperspace skein or cosmology skein proves that it is a common term. I would add a line, but I don't know what is the link between real space-time and knot polynomials (or geese formations). -- Squidonius ( talk) 01:13, 6 October 2014 (UTC)
