Special blessings/holiness from eating kugel? Hebe, please. Where are these super-superstitious Jews (outside of Crown Heights, and they just play superstitious on TV)? Yes, noodle kugel is traditional Joosian food (I had it once at a bat mitzvah reception--a little more hardy than the typical bagel-and-lox spread). You know, secular Jews, as well as conservative, reform, regular (real) Orthodox (not Lubovitcher cultists) Jews, eat kugel and do not ascribe any sort of hoodoo to it. It's food. It's ethnic food. It's your culture.
Such comments as are in the article's current form smack of exoticism and--dare I say it--threaten the NPOV. Perhaps if you showed citation for such behavior within the Lubavitcher community and attributed it as such it might fit... assuming even the Lubavitchers are that silly. They are pretty silly, but in general they seem to be, like Hamlet, only mad north by northwest. 98.180.8.57 ( talk) 09:28, 10 September 2011 (UTC)
bacon is found in kugel only very rarely. Milk is almost as common. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 69.124.116.101 ( talk) 02:46, 17 October 2017 (UTC)
"savory kugels have always existed"
How'd they make the kugel before fire came about? -- Bkrausz 03:30, 7 July 2007 (UTC)

I've removed the claim that the term is nearly identical to JAP. They are not. Kugel has come to be applied to both Jews and non-Jews, these days with most of the Jews having left SA, the term more often than not refers to non-Jews. Also JAP is negative and implies having been spoilt by wealth, while kugel is amusing and implies trying too hard to appear to be sophisticated. Kuratowski's Ghost 19:47, 26 February 2007 (UTC)
I have changed the statement that kugels forgo their religious beliefs as the best place to see kugels in/at their finest is shul on first night Rosh Hashanah. If they gave up their religion koeksisters would be even more appropriate —Preceding unsigned comment added by 198.54.202.114 ( talk) 07:00, 10 September 2009 (UTC)

The shell scripts Wikipedians looking after disambiguation pages typically won't let me arrange the disambiguated items in a meaningful way as long as the term has a "primary meaning" (by which they mean that one topic happens to be situated at the un-disambiguated title).
So technically speaking, I would suggest that the Kugel dish is not the primary meaning of the term "Kugel", even in English. Most instances of "Kugel" in English literature are references to people with the surname.
I don't really have an issue with the article residing at this title, but due to the extreme inertia stability given to Wikipedia procedure by those editors applying guideline pages algorithmically, it may make sense to move it to
Kugel (dish) or similar. --

Agreed. I never even heard of a sweet kugel until I was an adult. As a child, it was always savory noodle kugels, with plenty of pepper, served with roast beef. JDZeff ( talk) 23:05, 13 January 2017 (UTC)

Is this notable? The u/i variation between litvish and galitzianer dialects isn't limited to just the word kugl/kigl, and they're just the same word in two dialects with differing phonologies. Edetone ( talk) 21:32, 20 August 2021 (UTC)

I propose merging Noodle kugel into Kugel. The etymology and histories are effectively the same and any noodle-specific components of the noodle kugel page would fit under the noodle kugel subheader in the varieties section. The rest of the content is about variations of ingredients or local customs which, again, falls under varieties. @ Etonmessisthebest and Gilabrand: Thoughts?
