"Menzu"

I'm not a linguist, but I think "Menzu" may not come from the English "Men", but from the Dutch "Mens" (human).

Considering the history between the Netherlands and Japan and the fact that there are many loanwords in Japanese that come from Dutch (think of Ponzu) there is a not insignificant likelyhood.

I have no way to confirm this, it's mostly that men and mens have similar meaning, but the "zu" of menzu makes me think it could be from mens. Ench Wraits ( talk) 22:25, 23 October 2023 (UTC) reply
