the article states that hip and gable roofing is of chinese origin, but i came across japanese kofun period architecture which also shows hip and gable roof, and add to that, there are some terracotta models of the Ancient Maya Deity Houses at Copán, Honduras from MET museum which also show this exact kofun style of a hip and gable roof.
