It is located in the southern central part of the republic. The area of the district is 2,203.3 square kilometers (850.7 sq mi). [3] Its administrative center is the rural locality (a selo) of Zavyalovo. [2] Population: 66,000 ( 2010 Russian census); [4] 59,145 ( 2002 Census); [8] 53,388 ( 1989 Soviet census). [9] The population of Zavyalovo accounts for 13.6% of the district's total population. [4]
