@ Ovinus: The Oxford English Dictionary itself provides the following etymology: "< French trompette (14th cent.), diminutive < trompe, trump n.1." In turn, "trump" (n.1) has the following etymology: "Middle English < French trompe (12–13th cent. in Hatzfeld & Darmesteter) = Provençal tromba, trompa, Italian tromba; ulterior derivation uncertain." As one might expect, this is similar to the etymology in the Concise Oxford Dictionary of English Etymology. Worldcat says it's online in various databases; you can see which ones by clicking on each item at that link. (Some list several, others only libraries.) In the Wikipedia Library Ebsco doesn't have Ars Lyrica for 1993, and I could only find citations in ProQuest, not the journal itself. If you have access to either of those services through your local library or school, give it a go; their version of the database might have it. I am seeking information concerning a US Army combat engineer unit that was attached to the 27th British Commonwealth Brigade during the Korean War. I am in discussions on Talk:Battle of Yongyu concerning the 3rd Battalion, Royal Australian Regiment’s participation in the Battle of Yongyu/Yongju. On the battle’s Wikipedia page Background section, there is a citation from the book The British Part in the Korean War: A Distant Obligation. Volume I by Anthony Farrar-Hockley (1990) that states in effect that under the command of the brigade were a number of US Army units, including 155 mm howitzers from the US 90th Field Artillery Battalion, M4 Sherman tanks from the US 89th Tank Battalion, and a company from the US 72nd Combat Engineer Battalion. My argument is that the actual unit was the US 72nd Engineer Combat Company. According to our discussions, unless there is a suitable reliable, published source to counter Farrar-Hockley’s designation, there should be no change in the 72nd Engineers unit designation. Unfortunately, my https://history.army.mil/html/forcestruc/lineages/branches/eng/0072enco.htm link does not satisfy the requirement. While it does prove that there was a 72nd Engineer Combat Company that served in Korea during the UN Offensive into North Korea, it does not specifically link it to the Yongyu/Yongju fighting during 22 October 1950. According to Wikipedia, using the US Army Center for Military History as a reference would be using material from a source to imply a conclusion not explicitly stated by any source. Short of something definitive, the thinking is that the 72nd Engineers should remain a battalion-level rather than a company-level formation, as per Farrar-Hockley's designation. I believe that Roy E. Appleman also got the 72nd Engineers unit designation wrong on page 284 of his description of Task Force Kean’s Bloody Gulch debacle when he stated “North Koreans also ambushed a platoon of the 72d Engineer Combat Battalion trying to help open the road.” in South to the Naktong, North to the Yalu: United States Army in the Korean War: June – November 1950. On a whim, I searched https://books.google.com/ for “72nd Engineer Company” to satisfy WP:RS and received a hit on The Korean war: an exhaustive chronology - Volume 1 by Bud Hannings (2007) with the following text: FOUND INSIDE – PAGE 979 … 555 Field Artillery Battalion (105mm) (Known as "The Triple-Nickel); 72nd Engineer Company 187th Airborne Regimental Combat Team 187th Airborne RCT (Brigadier General Frank S. Bowen Jr. Units: 187th Airborne Infantry Regiment; …. Thinking that this book would be a nice addition to my Korean War reference library, I looked it up. The 3-volume hardcover set sells for $423.04 on eBAY and $339.20 on Amazon, a bit pricey to support my company/battalion argument. Hanning’s book bibliography is Hannings, Bud. The Korean War: an Exhaustive Chronology. McFarland & Co., 2007. ISBN-13: 978-0786428144 ISBN-10: 0786428147.

Flying Gang, Pirates - source from 1716

I am trying to access an article which I think was published in the Boston News-Letter on 28 May 1716. The title is "Flying Gang rejects Treaty of Utrecht, will spare Dutch and English: “New York Dispatch"" about a gang of pirates, to verify some of the claims made. It is used as a source in the book The Republic of Pirates: Being the True and Surprising Story of the Caribbean Pirates and the Man who Brought Them Down but the accucracy is questionable. I do not know the page number within the newsletter or any further details.

@ WhisperToMe It looks like The Journal of Modern History (Chicago, University of Chicago Press, 1929-) 91/1 is dated 2019, not 2017. IS the volume number correct, and the year number you gave perhaps the year the article was written, not the year of the volume?

The online catalog of Országgyűlési Könyvtár says that they have the volume, so it may be possible to get it through interlibrary copy in the future. I don't know how to make a link to the catalog entry, and there's no ISSN listed, so you'll have to identify it by journal title.

Clywedog Reservoir Joint Authority Act 1963

For Clywedog reservoir There has been a recent debate about the purpose of this reservoir. Many years ago before retirement I was professionally part of the team revising and maintaining the operating rules for the reservoir, all of which track back to the original Act. A quotation of the Acts preamble has been dismissed by an editor as an "Author;'s POV" . I just need somebody with access to a legal library to look up the act and copy, scan, write out the preamble which sets out the purpose and for which I would be most grateful. Magyar Tudományos Adakémia (MTA) library has a copy of “Der Einfluss des Wahlleiters …” it will probably be possible to get it through interlibrary photocopy.

The one by Karl-Joachim Hölkeskamp is available according to the online catalog of Debreceni Egyetem library, so it may be possible to get an interlibrary photocopy in the future.
