The project coordinators are generally responsible for maintaining all of the procedural and administrative aspects of the project, and serve as the designated points-of-contact for procedural issues. They are not, however, endowed with any special executive powers.
The lead coordinator bears overall responsibility for coordinating the project; the other coordinators aid the lead coordinator and focus on specific areas that require special attention.
Responsibilities

The primary responsibility of the project coordinators is the maintenance and housekeeping work involved in keeping the project and its internal processes running smoothly; this includes a variety of tasks, such as keeping the announcement and open task lists updated, overseeing the assessment and review processes, managing the proposal and creation of task forces, and so forth. There is fairly little involved that couldn't theoretically be done by any other editor, of course—in only a few places have the coordinators been explicitly written into a process—but, since experience suggests that people tend to assume that someone else is doing whatever needs to be done, it has proven beneficial to formally delegate responsibility for this administrative work to a specified group.
The coordinators also have several additional roles. They serve as the project's designated points of contact, and are explicitly listed as people to whom questions can be directed in a variety of places around the project. In addition, they have (highly informal) roles in leading the drafting of project guidelines, overseeing the implementation of project decisions on issues like category schemes and template use, and helping to resolve disputes and keep discussions from becoming heated and unproductive.

- The election will be conducted using simple approval voting. Any member of the project may support as many of the candidates as they wish. The candidate with the highest number of endorsements will become the lead coordinator (provided he or she is willing to assume the post); the remaining candidates with twenty or more endorsements will be appointed as coordinators to a maximum of fourteen appointments. The number of coordinators may be increased or reduced if there is a tie or near-tie for the last position.

- I have been an editor on Wikipedia for nearly three years now, joining the Military history WikiProject in June 2008 and proudly being elected as a coordinator during March this year. I am an active participant in A-Class reviews, with involvement every so often in peer reviews, Good article nominations and Featured Article candidacies, and try to be involved in project discussions as much as possible. The vast majority of my editing is within the project's scope—most significantly in the area of military biographical articles, where my primary interest, knowledge and expertise lie. - What have been the achievements of which you are most proud within the Military history WikiProject?
- I am rather proud of the term I have been able to serve as a coordinator, the people I have been able to help, assist or guide in this role, but also the assistance and advice I have received in return. Article-wise, I am proud of my contributions primarily to the area of Australian military biography articles—particularly Victoria Cross recipients—which currently boasts a collection of eight Featured Articles, a Featured List, eight A-Class articles and five Good Articles. For my work in areas such as this, I was honoured enough to receive the WikiChevrons with Oak Leaves in January this year. However, I cannot take all of the credit for this work, as I have been assisted, guided and advised on many of these articles by several of our esteemed colleagues and current coordinators within the project.
- What skills/qualities can you contribute as a Milhist coordinator?
- During the term I have served as a coordinator, I was able to manage my roles in the position, I believe, efficiently and effectively, taking part in several discussions and tasks. In addition to my previous experience in the role, I have a rather sound knowledge of the article assessment systems and processes, as well as the basic editing policies and guidelines. I feel I am a diligent editor, possess decent organisational skills and am helpful when and where possible.

Cam
- Wikipedian since March 2007, MilHist Coordinator since September 2008, Administrator since 2009. I've been a coordinator for two terms now. Since joining the project, I've tried to be a prolific participant in the Peer Reviews, ACRs, and FACs within the project (though this has - at times - been inevitably hampered by heavy schoolwork loads); having received several Content Review Medals for my work in that department. I have also received the project's A-Class Medal on three occasions. I am very much hoping to be given the opportunity to serve a third term as a coordinator of this incredible project.

- What skills/qualities can you contribute as a Milhist coordinator?
- I have significant experience (2 terms) in the performing of the routine tasks of MilHist coordinators. I am typically very active on the Coordinator talk-pages in terms of discussing potential guideline overhauls and policy implementations within our project. I also have the ability to act within a dispute-resolution capacity (especially relating to edgy and potentially controversial articles), and have (according to Roger & Kirill) maintained a cool head throughout all the disputes I have mediated. Whether it is policy discussions or source credibility evaluations, I tend to have very little patience for trolls and detractors, and tend to keep debate and the flow of ideas moving forward. I have a strong understanding of the criteria of our A-Class system and of the FAC system (having taken eleven articles through the former and four through the latter). - Cool3 here sliding under the wire. I joined MILHIST earlier this year. For the last couple of months, I've been incredibly busy in real life, but from October that should lighten up and I will have more time to spend (waste?) on Wikipedia. I'm a firm believer in creating more quality content; I think that this is best project on Wikipedia, but we can do so much more. Thanks for listening.

- What have been the achievements of which you are most proud within the Military history WikiProject?
- I've put together several good articles within the project's scope. In particular, I've contributed a pair of featured articles Michael Woodruff and Hastings Ismay and strung together 3 A-Class articles, Operation Deny Flight, Operation Sky Monitor, and Hastings Ismay. I've also participated in a number of ACRs and FACs for MILHIST articles, and I do my best to provide comprehensive feedback at reviews.
- What skills/qualities can you contribute as a Milhist coordinator?
- I like to think that I know a lot about writing high quality content, and I'd like to help others do the same. I may not be MILHIST's most active member, but I'm not the least active either. In particular, I'd also like to help focus on getting A-Class articles through the FAC process, as I see that as the natural "target" for all articles.
- Are you an inclusionist or a deletionist? This does not effect my vote either way, I'm just curious as to your position on the matter.

- I'd really love to just entirely avoid this question and say that I reject such labels, but that wouldn't really help anyone out. I'd say that a review of my AfD record shows that I'm pretty firmly in the inclusionist camp. I would say that one of the greatest strengths of Wikipedia is the vastness of its coverage; with articles on subjects that no other encyclopedia covers or even would cover. I've written some pretty good articles on people or events that you won't find in any other reference work (see for example Ronald Wingate). At the same time, I've come to appreciate what deletionism is about over time. There's something to be said for limiting ourselves to say 100,000 articles and making them as good as possible. On the other hand, it's important to keep in mind that we are volunteers. People who come here and write articles on obscure topics of personal interest probably just wouldn't spend that time on Wikipedia at all if that weren't allowed; I seriously doubt that instead they'd all just focus on bringing World War II up to featured status.

- I have been a member of the Military history project since March 2007 and a coordinator of it since August 2007, with more than 95% of my contributions on Wikipedia being made within this project. During my last term as a coordinator, which I thought it will be the last one, I have been quite inactive and did not make any major achievements as planned during the previous elections. However, I would like to concentrate as much as I can if re-elected for a fifth term (this time for sure the last one) and develop various activities to make the project better organized, more active and attractive.

EyeSerene
- I'm pleased once again to be able to offer my services to our project. Assisting in the coordination of Milhist for the past nine months has been a tremendous pleasure and privilege, and I really do think of this project as my 'home' on Wikipedia. I believe we are hugely fortunate in our membership, and together have built a strong community that is diverse, supportive, welcoming, productive, and - most of the time(!) - happy. With the current initiative to develop our Academy, ongoing examination of other areas of the project, and an ever-increasing number of quality articles being produced by our members, it's an exciting time to be involved. - What have been the achievements of which you are most proud within the Military history WikiProject?
- As a current coordinator, at one time or another I've done most of the routine maintenance jobs involved in keeping things ticking over. I've also, thankfully rarely, found myself having to act in an admin role, and I'm glad that I've been able to help out in this way too... though I'm well aware I haven't always pleased everyone! However, where I feel that I make a real contribution to both Milhist and Wikipedia is in assisting other editors to gain recognition for their hard work and scholarship - it's of great satisfaction to me when an article I've copyedited passes its FAC, or when a new editor I've helped along the way becomes a seasoned veteran and starts churning out Good, A-Class and Featured articles of their own. Along with other editors, I've also been spending time working on the Academy, which I believe has the potential to become an editing resource that's second to none. While I've achieved far less than I wanted to (as usual!), things are definitely taking shape, and thanks to all those who are writing articles for the wishlist I think we'll soon have something we can be very proud of.
- What skills/qualities can you contribute as a Milhist coordinator?
- Per my above, I believe I've undertaken the technical side of coordinatorship reasonably competently, and can be trusted to do a sound job on that front. On the more interactive side, I try to approach project discussions and requests from editors thoughtfully, and to treat all editors with the respect I'd hope to be shown. On those occasions where, as an admin, I've needed to be firm, I trust I haven't also been unfair, and I do my best to keep all my actions transparent and open to criticism. I have considerable real-world experience in training and education, and (regardless of the election result) will be hoping to continue to use this to benefit the development of our Academy. I'm also a fairly experienced reviewer across various Wikipedia processes, which gives me a good insight into the development and promotion of article quality.

Ian Rose
- I've been a part of Wikipedia for nearly 4 years now, and began contributing to military history articles about 2½ years ago. For the past 6 months I've had the privilege of being a MILHIST coordinator. Article-wise, MILHIST is easily my prime focus at WP, mainly in the field of RAAF biography, though my edits have ranged across many related areas. At the moment my significant contributions here include 9 FA-Class (plus 1 pending by the look of it), 5 A-Class, and 4 GA-Class articles, as well as a long list of DYKs, one of which is listed 3rd in DYKSTATS (99% due to the striking photograph that accompanied it, of course). I take part in the monthly writing contest, spend a fair amount of time reverting vandalism and fixing other dubious edits, do a good deal of reviewing, assessing and copyediting of articles at all levels, perform housekeeping tasks like announcing/closing reviews and updating open tasks, and try to offer advice wherever appropriate.
Comments and questions for Ian Rose
- What have been the achievements of which you are most proud within the Military history WikiProject?
- From the writing perspective, I'd like to think that I've been able to produce work that's well sourced and illustrated, written in a style that's objective but engaging, and focusses on the human element, the impact that personalities have on historical events. Creating half a dozen MilHist articles from scratch and taking them to FA level has been satisfying. I'll also take a bit of credit for initiating an impromptu drive in the Australian Task Force to create/improve RAN biographies, long the poor relation of their RAAF and Australian Army counterparts, that's seen two articles make A-Class and one FA. I'm pleased that since becoming a coordinator I've figured in the top 10 content reviewers each quarter. Finally, hearing that someone's found my advice/copyedits/reviews useful still makes my day.
- What skills/qualities can you contribute as a Milhist coordinator?
- Prior to the last coordinator election, I was fortunate enough to be awarded the WikiChevrons with Oak Leaves, which cited not just editing achievements but stuff about being civil, collaborative, and happy to offer advice and assistance. This still covers a lot of what I expect to provide as a coordinator: experience, evenhandedness, and enthusiasm, plus the housekeeping that's part-and-parcel of this role, sound knowledge of the review/assessment process, and willingness/ability to contribute to project policy and discussion.

- I've been a Wikipedian since January, 2007, and have spent most of my time here with MILHIST and working on MILHIST-related stuff. Although I initially worked on article development, mainly related to the Eastern Front of World War II, an area prone to regional bias and given insufficient attention considering its importance to the war, for the last year or so I have focused on article reviewing, primarily our project's A-Class Review department. I have commented on nearly every A-Class review submitted except for rare times when I am out of town. I have also served as a coordinator for the last six months, participating in coordinator discussions as much as possible and, when possible and I'm not too busy on ACRs, posting new A-Class and Peer Reviews and archiving old Peer Reviews. Unlike most candidates thus far, my contributions do not focus on military history articles, but rather general Wikipedia maintenance; still, I've been a member of MILHIST for about a year now, and I've helped copyedit and expand numerous articles within the project's scope, mainly to help them through FAC. - As I mentioned above, my contributions within MILHIST are somewhat limited. However, I have collaborated with other users on expanding certain pages (for example, Orion P. Howe) and copyediting others (eg. William Henry Harrison). I'll list more examples if necessary.
- What skills/qualities can you contribute as a Milhist coordinator?
- As I also explained above, I feel some "new blood" will be good for the project. I'd be able to present new ideas and evaluate certain situations from a more uninvolved standpoint. I have a solid understanding of assessment scales and WikiProject collaborations, so I am experienced in these areas.
- I see from your userpage that you identify as an inclusionist. In your own words, why do you feel you are an inclusionist, and do you believe that this view will interfere with your ability to keep an open mind regard milhist articles and other material up at afd?

- I believe Wikipedia should be as comprehensive as reasonably possible. I am therefore of the opinion that deletion should be as a last resort, and only used after attempts to bring an article up to standard have either failed or been rendered impossible. Indeed, I believe the project's strong-point is its ability to cover somewhat-obscure-yet-still-notable topics. However, I do not let these views get in the way of my judgment when it comes to determining consensus or reviewing a particular article; this is evidenced I feel by the fact that I have deleted nearly 14,000 pages. Impartiality is key in the administration of Wikipedia, and I strive to contribute with that in mind. - I've been on Wikipedia since July 2007, and a coordinator for MilHist since late 2008. When it comes to military history, I tend to work on biographies and maritime warfare articles, although through collaboration I have happily been introduced to hundreds of fascinating 'new' topics. I am also an active participant at WP:FAC, WP:FAR, WP:SHIPS and WP:MEDICINE.

- What have been the achievements of which you are most proud within the Military history WikiProject?
- I particularly enjoy working on articles that need copyediting or other work to make them shine. Helping others by locating additional sources or images, or by reorganizing or improving prose, is to me the most rewarding aspect of contributing here. While it's lovely to have my work acknowledged with an award or a barnstar, to me the copyedit request is the true sign of achievement: if you folks remain willing to turn your painstaking work over to me for copyediting, there must be some truth to the rumor that I know what I'm doing :)
- What skills/qualities can you contribute as a Milhist coordinator?
- I am comfortable with the routine coordinator tasks, and have extensive experience assessing articles. I am a capable and prolific copyeditor. I am a frequent reviewer at FAC and FAR, and well-versed in delivering criticism in a constructive manner and negotiating compromises. As an editor with fairly broad experience across Wikipedia, I hope to help develop our Academy into an organized, mature resource for our editors.

- What skills/qualities can you contribute as a Milhist coordinator?
- I am fairly comfortable performing all of the traditional tasks of a coordinator and also make an effort to stay involved with our review department and review articles put up for a peer review (I tend to abstain from commenting at our A-Class Review so I am available to close them upon the rare occasion that Eurocopter has not beaten us to that act). I am a certified WikiGnome and have been asked to put those skills to use many times for the benefit of the project from both coordinators and ordinary members. A prime example of this is my recent compilation of the statistics relating to the success rate of MILHIST Featured Article Candidates versus all Featured Article Candidates along with the usefulness of our A-Class Review process as it relates to success at FAC. The condensed version of my results appeared in the project's newsletter for August 2009 in the Editorial section, and the majority of my results were reported to the coordinators on our talk page here.

- I've been one of the project's coordinators since February 2008 and would like to nominate for a fourth term. During the last three terms I've preformed the full range of coordinator tasks and have tried to be an active (and hopefully constructive) participant in the project's peer and A class reviews. I've also provided advice to editors on a range of topics and have contributed to improving the project's procedures. I think that the project's main new priority for the upcoming six month is improving our documentation to provide improved guidance for editors considering topics for new articles and assessing whether existing articles really belong on Wikipedia. This could encourage editors to write about little-known but notable events and prevent the project's reputation from being dragged down by articles on non-notable topics. - What have been the achievements of which you are most proud within the Military history WikiProject?
- I'm particularly pleased to have been awarded the content review medal on most (all?) occasions it's been awarded since it was introduced. I think that the review process is central to this project's success, and I hope that I've contributed to keeping this working well. I'm also proud of being elected a coordinator three times and think that I've made a positive contribution in this role. On a personal level I've pleased to have played a lead role in bringing six articles to FA status (including three this year) and a further two to A class status as well as contributing to other highly-rated articles and starting dozens of good-quality B class articles within the scope of the project.
- What skills/qualities can you contribute as a Milhist coordinator?
- I now have extensive experience as a coordinator, and am able to perform most of the routine tasks quickly. I've also developed what I think is good judgment on how to best handle issues which come up within the project, and particularly which guidelines and policies are most relevant to solving common problems. On a related topic, I have a good understanding of the A and FA criteria and the kinds of issues which editors look for during these assessments. While it is not a requirement for coordinators, I also have administrator privileges and am a point of contact for tasks where admin intervention is needed (though I'd obviously continue to do this if this nomination isn't successful).
- Articles on non-notable topics
- Full disclosure: I am an eventualist. I'd like to know a little more about your definition of 'non-notable topics' and how you believe they are dragging down the project's reputation.

- Basically, topics which don't meet the various notability guidelines. For example, articles on non-notable people who don't meet WP:BIO or non-notable units which don't meet WP:ORG. Articles on people whose only claim to notability is winning a mid-level medal or being promoted to a mid-level rank and sub-units of large units which haven't received significant coverage in reliable sources are examples of the kind of articles I think that we need to develop guidance around as issues raised when they're brought to AfD are fairly consistent (eg, military people with admirable careers but no significant coverage in reliable sources often attract some keep votes on the grounds that editors like them and articles on units which make no claims of notability or provide any sources are taken to AfD when they could be speedy deleted per CSD A7). - I've been editing for a little over 3 years now, an admin for about a year and a half, and a member of MILHIST for quite some time. I'd say probably all of my regular editing is within the scope of this project, and most of that is in the area of naval warfare. I figured that with the burden I put on this project with the slew of articles I nominate every month for informal and A-class reviews, I should help carry a bit of the load :)
Comments and questions for Parsecboy
- What have been the achievements of which you are most proud within the Military history WikiProject?
- As many of you know, I've written a number of FAs, GAs, and A-class articles about the German Imperial Navy. I was honored to be awarded the Chevrons with Oak Leaves this summer for my work in that area.
- What skills/qualities can you contribute as a Milhist coordinator?
- I generally have a good amount of free time to contribute to Wikipedia. The area I see myself being active in immediately is the A-class review process. I also look forward to contributing to discussions at WT:MHCOORD. Like Sturmvogel, I think I can offer new perspectives to coordinator discussions. I do see myself branching out into other areas as I become more familiar with them. I also think I can give helpful advice in the realm of content-building.

- I know I encouraged you to run, but I do not want you to overburdened your first time out, nor do I want you to feel obligated to accept if you feel uncertain about your ability to handle the task, so just to clear the air: as a first time candidate for coordinator do you feel that you will be able handle the responsibility of the lead position if you are elected to it? This does not effect my !vote, I just was not excepting you to be so popular, so I just want to make sure that your up to it when you get in :)

- I've been writing and upgrading articles for about 2 years now, although I've only started to pay attention to the behind-the-scenes stuff like assessments and stuff like that for the last year or so. But despite all that time there's still a lot of stuff that I'm learning about how to actually get things done. I believe my learning curve was steeper than it should have been and I'd like to focus on getting new users up to speed more quickly. I've already written one article for the Academy and plan to do several others to that end. I've been a prolific contributor, enough so that I've won the last three contests, but I've also spent a lot of time assessing articles, mostly for B-class and shepherding others through the GA process as I feel that I can't ask time of others to assess my articles without giving my time to do the same for others.

- What have been the achievements of which you are most proud within the Military history WikiProject?
- Winning the contest has been a nice feeling, but the Content Review Medal and Guidance Barnstar were probably more important to me because they were independent of the amount of time I had available to write all those articles, which is usually quite a bit more than most people who have real lives have available.
- What skills/qualities can you contribute as a Milhist coordinator?
- I think the two biggest virtues that I have to offer the project are my time, of which I have a fair amount, and the fact that I still see things with a newbie's eyes. So I'd like to work more on the Academy so that we have single-point sources we can point to for reference when an editor is struggling. Finding things on your own can be quite time-consuming and sometimes seems impossible. And we need to alert editors to various tricks of Wikicode which can make things quite a bit simpler when writing.
- Are you an inclusionist or a deletionist? This will not effect my vote either way, I am merely curious as to your position on this matter.

- Both and neither, I think, depending exactly how you define each. When I first started editing I wrote a boatload of stub and start quality articles on stuff that interested me that wasn't already in Wiki. And as I've acquired more sources I've gone back and filled in a bunch of them and brought them up to B and GA class. - What have been the achievements of which you are most proud within the Military history WikiProject?
- By far, I'm most proud of my article writing in the realm of naval history. I've had the pelasure of researching and writing articles on a range of different ships, including the United States' USS Nevada (BB-36) and North Carolina-class battleship, the Netherlands' Design 1047 battlecruiser, and Brazil's Minas Geraes and Bahia, among others.
- What skills/qualities can you contribute as a Milhist coordinator?
- As a coord this tranche, I'll be getting back into A-class reviews, assessments at WP:MHA, and adding to discussions at WT:MHCOORD. I'm also attempting to assist Durova ( talk · contribs) in her quest to enlist some members of the project to get in touch with WMF people around the world and have them begin dialogue with museums. Through this, we hope that they will release free media in their possession to the Commons. This would benefit us greatly; the Bundesarchiv donation included many images of the German military which had previously not been covered extensively due to copyright laws.

- I didn't see any noticeable objection to the impending leave of absence I am going to take, so if the community is ok with my upcoming leave of absence then I will stand for election again. I'm TomStar81, and I've been a coordinator for a little over two years, going back to the days when Kirill Lokshin was our lead. I've been the driving (steaming?) force behind the improvement of our battleship articles for the last few years, and I've been active within the project in a number of different capacities, depending on the kind of help we needed at the time. I'd be happy to return to the coordinators circle if the community will have be back.

- Honestly, I could single one particular thing out. Between the FPs and FAs I have, the help I've offered, and the ideas I have suggested I have much to be proud of, and I do try to spread my pride around on my achievements so as not to become obsessively proud of any one particular thing.
- What skills/qualities can you contribute as a Milhist coordinator?
- I have no compulsion about thinking of or suggesting ways to improve our project, as is evidenced by the various ideas I have offered for consideration to the project coordinators. Some of my ideas -like the working group concept- have been accepted, others have were considered and passed on or simply rejected for good reason. I have also tried to be active with the ACR process since that is an undermanned area for us; typically, I run the auto scripts so as to leave suggestions based on the results the scripts generate.
- Given that you expect to be absent for much of the coming term in order to complete your university work, how much free time do you think you'll have to spend on coordinator activities?

- My plan as I see it is to take a long break beginning around the end of September and lasting until early December for one last hard push to get through collage and graduate. After that, depending on how things over here shape up, I should have the next four months to actively participate in all aspects of the project. - I was actually expecting this question a week ago, so I glad to see that it finally got asked. To answer your question I will address the two points asked separately so as to cover the ground adequately and concisely the first time around. I have no objections to accepting the position of Lead Coordinator, in fact I would be honored to hold that position within the project. I have had my eye on the Lead Coordinator position for a while now, while I was initially reluctant to take on that responsibility about a year and a half ago do to my inexperience with the position I now feel that I can handle whatever the position demands of me. As is evidenced by the number of people who have supported me I think that our members also feel that I will be able to handle the demands of the position as well. Having said this it can not be denied that the absence I intend to take will last two months, and would leave the project without a functioning lead coordinator such as it were. Although that may appear to be a problem initially do recall that we have a number of returning veteran coordinators who have the experience and the good judgment needed to act upon the normal issues in my absence. In addition to the 15 coordinators we will elect we also have 1 (soon to be 2) emeritus coordinators who in my absence should be able to peek in on the project and ensure that everything runs like a well oiled machine. IF for any reason though the project's members are uncomfortable with this I would happily resign my impending position as lead so as to ensure that the position of lead is filled by someone who will be present for the entire term. - After some thought, I have decided to throw my hat into the ring once again. I have been a coordinator in the past and I have decided to run again for this term. I didn't go up for re-election last year as I knew I would have less time due to real life circumstances and indeed I took a two month break from editing. Now I am back to my usual editing patterns and usual level of activity. I think I can offer something to the project and I hope I can be a help once again so I offer my services.

- What have been the achievements of which you are most proud within the Military history WikiProject?
- I suppose I am most proud of my contributions to articles surrounding the Victoria Cross. I have a couple of related featured topics which I am proud of. A full list of my "article credits" can be found on my userpage. I have quite a few featured lists, a few featured articles and some featured topics. When I start on a project I usually have the ultimate aim of turning it into a featured topic. In general, I am proud of any article that has been improved as a result of my editing.
- What skills/qualities can you contribute as a Milhist coordinator?
- In general I hope that I provide help in a wide range of activities across the project. I have been involved in the contest for a long time, assessing articles, emptying backlogs and maintenance categories etc. Generally I just work in the background responding to questions, requests for advice and the like and then getting involved in the more meta aspects of the position. I have experience with almost all of the featured content review processes and I review articles as and when I feel I can offer something to the review. I will get back into the swing of reviewing in the next month or so as I have time freed up in real life.

The project coordinators are generally responsible for maintaining all of the procedural and administrative aspects of the project, and serve as the designated points-of-contact for procedural issues. They are not, however, endowed with any special executive powers.
The lead coordinator bears overall responsibility for coordinating the project; the other coordinators aid the lead coordinator and focus on specific areas that require special attention.

The primary responsibility of the project coordinators is the maintenance and housekeeping work involved in keeping the project and its internal processes running smoothly; this includes a variety of tasks, such as keeping the announcement and open task lists updated, overseeing the assessment and review processes, managing the proposal and creation of task forces, and so forth. There is fairly little involved that couldn't theoretically be done by any other editor, of course—in only a few places have the coordinators been explicitly written into a process—but, since experience suggests that people tend to assume that someone else is doing whatever needs to be done, it has proven beneficial to formally delegate responsibility for this administrative work to a specified group.
The coordinators also have several additional roles. They serve as the project's designated points of contact, and are explicitly listed as people to whom questions can be directed in a variety of places around the project. In addition, they have (highly informal) roles in leading the drafting of project guidelines, overseeing the implementation of project decisions on issues like category schemes and template use, and helping to resolve disputes and keep discussions from becoming heated and unproductive.

- I have been an editor on Wikipedia for nearly three years now, joining the Military history WikiProject in June 2008 and proudly being elected as a coordinator during March this year. - What have been the achievements of which you are most proud within the Military history WikiProject?
- I am rather proud of the term I have been able to serve as a coordinator, the people I have been able to help, assist or guide in this role, but also the assistance and advice I have received in return. Article-wise, I am proud of my contributions primarily to the area of Australian military biography articles—particularly Victoria Cross recipients—which currently boasts a collection of eight Featured Articles, a Featured List, eight A-Class articles and five Good Articles. For my work in areas such as this, I was honoured enough to receive the WikiChevrons with Oak Leaves in January this year. However, I cannot take all of the credit for this work, as I have been assisted, guided and advised on many of these articles by several of our esteemed colleagues and current coordinators within the project.
- What skills/qualities can you contribute as a Milhist coordinator?
- During the term I have served as a coordinator, I was able to manage my roles in the position, I believe, efficiently and effectively, taking part in several discussions and tasks. In addition to my previous experience in the role, I have a rather sound knowledge of the article assessment systems and processes, as well as the basic editing policies and guidelines. I feel I am a diligent editor, possess decent organisational skills and am helpful when and where possible.

- Wikipedian since March 2007, MilHist Coordinator since September 2008, Administrator since 2009. I've been a coordinator for two terms now. Since joining the project, I've tried to be a prolific participant in the Peer Reviews, ACRs, and FACs within the project (though this has - at times - been inevitably hampered by heavy schoolwork loads); having received several Content Review Medals for my work in that department. I have also received the project's A-Class Medal on three occasions. I am very much hoping to be given the opportunity to serve a third term as a coordinator of this incredible project.

- What skills/qualities can you contribute as a Milhist coordinator?
- I have significant experience (2 terms) in the performing of the routine tasks of MilHist coordinators. I am typically very active on the Coordinator talk-pages in terms of discussing potential guideline overhauls and policy implementations within our project. I also have the ability to act within a dispute-resolution capacity (especially relating to edgy and potentially controversial articles), and have (according to Roger & Kirill) maintained a cool head throughout all the disputes I have mediated. Whether it is policy discussions or source credibility evaluations, I tend to have very little patience for trolls and detractors, and tend to keep debate and the flow of ideas moving forward. I have a strong understanding of the criteria of our A-Class system and of the FAC system (having taken eleven articles through the former and four through the latter). - Cool3 here sliding under the wire. I joined MILHIST earlier this year. For the last couple of months, I've been incredibly busy in real life, but from October that should lighten up and I will have more time to spend (waste?) on Wikipedia. I'm a firm believer in creating more quality content; I think that this is best project on Wikipedia, but we can do so much more. Thanks for listening.

- What have been the achievements of which you are most proud within the Military history WikiProject?
- I've put together several good articles within the project's scope. In particular, I've contributed a pair of featured articles Michael Woodruff and Hastings Ismay and strung together 3 A-Class articles, Operation Deny Flight, Operation Sky Monitor, and Hastings Ismay. I've also participated in a number of ACRs and FACs for MILHIST articles, and I do my best to provide comprehensive feedback at reviews.
- What skills/qualities can you contribute as a Milhist coordinator?
- I like to think that I know a lot about writing high quality content, and I'd like to help others do the same. I may not be MILHIST's most active member, but I'm not the least active either. In particular, I'd also like to help focus on getting A-Class articles through the FAC process, as I see that as the natural "target" for all articles.
- Are you an inclusionist or a deletionist? This does not effect my vote either way, I'm just curious as to your position on the matter.

- I'd really love to just entirely avoid this question and say that I reject such labels, but that wouldn't really help anyone out. I'd say that a review of my AfD record shows that I'm pretty firmly in the inclusionist camp. I would say that one of the greatest strengths of Wikipedia is the vastness of its coverage; with articles on subjects that no other encyclopedia covers or even would cover. I've written some pretty good articles on people or events that you won't find in any other reference work (see for example Ronald Wingate). At the same time, I've come to appreciate what deletionism is about over time. There's something to be said for limiting ourselves to say 100,000 articles and making them as good as possible. On the other hand, it's important to keep in mind that we are volunteers. People who come here and write articles on obscure topics of personal interest probably just wouldn't spend that time on Wikipedia at all if that weren't allowed; I seriously doubt that instead they'd all just focus on bringing World War II up to featured status.

- I have been a member of the Military history project since March 2007 and a coordinator of it since August 2007, with more than 95% of my contributions on Wikipedia being made within this project. During my last term as a coordinator, which I thought it will be the last one, I have been quite inactive and did not make any major achievements as planned during the previous elections. However, I would like to concentrate as much as I can if re-elected for a fifth term (this time for sure the last one) and develop various activities to make the project better organized, more active and attractive.

- I'm pleased once again to be able to offer my services to our project. Assisting in the coordination of Milhist for the past nine months has been a tremendous pleasure and privilege, and I really do think of this project as my 'home' on Wikipedia. I believe we are hugely fortunate in our membership, and together have built a strong community that is diverse, supportive, welcoming, productive, and - most of the time(!) - happy. With the current initiative to develop our Academy, ongoing examination of other areas of the project, and an ever-increasing number of quality articles being produced by our members, it's an exciting time to be involved. - What have been the achievements of which you are most proud within the Military history WikiProject?
- As a current coordinator, at one time or another I've done most of the routine maintenance jobs involved in keeping things ticking over. I've also, thankfully rarely, found myself having to act in an admin role, and I'm glad that I've been able to help out in this way too... though I'm well aware I haven't always pleased everyone! However, where I feel that I make a real contribution to both Milhist and Wikipedia is in assisting other editors to gain recognition for their hard work and scholarship - it's of great satisfaction to me when an article I've copyedited passes its FAC, or when a new editor I've helped along the way becomes a seasoned veteran and starts churning out Good, A-Class and Featured articles of their own. Along with other editors, I've also been spending time working on the Academy, which I believe has the potential to become an editing resource that's second to none. While I've achieved far less than I wanted to (as usual!), things are definitely taking shape, and thanks to all those who are writing articles for the wishlist I think we'll soon have something we can be very proud of.
- What skills/qualities can you contribute as a Milhist coordinator?
- Per my above, I believe I've undertaken the technical side of coordinatorship reasonably competently, and can be trusted to do a sound job on that front. On the more interactive side, I try to approach project discussions and requests from editors thoughtfully, and to treat all editors with the respect I'd hope to be shown. On those occasions where, as an admin, I've needed to be firm, I trust I haven't also been unfair, and I do my best to keep all my actions transparent and open to criticism. I have considerable real-world experience in training and education, and (regardless of the election result) will be hoping to continue to use this to benefit the development of our Academy. I'm also a fairly experienced reviewer across various Wikipedia processes, which gives me a good insight into the development and promotion of article quality.

Ian Rose
- I've been a part of Wikipedia for nearly 4 years now, and began contributing to military history articles about 2½ years ago. For the past 6 months I've had the privilege of being a MILHIST coordinator. Article-wise, MILHIST is easily my prime focus at WP, mainly in the field of RAAF biography, though my edits have ranged across many related areas. At the moment my significant contributions here include 9 FA-Class (plus 1 pending by the look of it), 5 A-Class, and 4 GA-Class articles, as well as a long list of DYKs, one of which is listed 3rd in DYKSTATS (99% due to the striking photograph that accompanied it, of course). I take part in the monthly writing contest, spend a fair amount of time reverting vandalism and fixing other dubious edits, do a good deal of reviewing, assessing and copyediting of articles at all levels, perform housekeeping tasks like announcing/closing reviews and updating open tasks, and try to offer advice wherever appropriate.

- What have been the achievements of which you are most proud within the Military history WikiProject?
- From the writing perspective, I'd like to think that I've been able to produce work that's well sourced and illustrated, written in a style that's objective but engaging, and focusses on the human element, the impact that personalities have on historical events. Creating half a dozen MilHist articles from scratch and taking them to FA level has been satisfying. I'll also take a bit of credit for initiating an impromptu drive in the Australian Task Force to create/improve RAN biographies, long the poor relation of their RAAF and Australian Army counterparts, that's seen two articles make A-Class and one FA. I'm pleased that since becoming a coordinator I've figured in the top 10 content reviewers each quarter. Finally, hearing that someone's found my advice/copyedits/reviews useful still makes my day.
- What skills/qualities can you contribute as a Milhist coordinator?
- Prior to the last coordinator election, I was fortunate enough to be awarded the WikiChevrons with Oak Leaves, which cited not just editing achievements but stuff about being civil, collaborative, and happy to offer advice and assistance. This still covers a lot of what I expect to provide as a coordinator: experience, evenhandedness, and enthusiasm, plus the housekeeping that's part-and-parcel of this role, sound knowledge of the review/assessment process, and willingness/ability to contribute to project policy and discussion.

- I've been a Wikipedian since January, 2007, and have spent most of my time here with MILHIST and working on MILHIST-related stuff. Although I initially worked on article development, mainly related to the Eastern Front of World War II, an area prone to regional bias and given insufficient attention considering its importance to the war, for the last year or so I have focused on article reviewing, primarily our project's A-Class Review department. I have commented on nearly every A-Class review submitted except for rare times when I am out of town. I have also served as a coordinator for the last six months, participating in coordinator discussions as much as possible and, when possible and I'm not too busy on ACRs, posting new A-Class and Peer Reviews and archiving old Peer Reviews. - Hi, I'm Juliancolton, and I'd like to present myself for consideration to become a project coordinator. Unlike most candidates thus far, my contributions do not focus on military history articles, but rather general Wikipedia maintenance; still, I've been a member of MILHIST for about a year now, and I've helped copyedit and expand numerous articles within the project's scope, mainly to help them through FAC. I feel it would be good for the project to have a coordinator who's not terribly involved, but still familiar, with MILHIST processes and discussions. - As I mentioned above, my contributions within MILHIST are somewhat limited. However, I have collaborated with other users on expanding certain pages (for example, Orion P. Howe) and copyediting others (eg. William Henry Harrison). I'll list more examples if necessary.
- What skills/qualities can you contribute as a Milhist coordinator?
- As I also explained above, I feel some "new blood" will be good for the project. I'd be able to present new ideas and evaluate certain situations from a more uninvolved standpoint. I have a solid understanding of assessment scales and WikiProject collaborations, so I am experienced in these areas.
- I see from your userpage that you identify as an inclusionist. In your own words, why do you feel you are an inclusionist, and do you believe that this view will interfere with your ability to keep an open mind regard milhist articles and other material up at afd?

- I believe Wikipedia should be as comprehensive as reasonably possible. I am therefore of the opinion that deletion should be as a last resort, and only used after attempts to bring an article up to standard have either failed or been rendered impossible. Indeed, I believe the project's strong-point is its ability to cover somewhat-obscure-yet-still-notable topics. However, I do not let these views get in the way of my judgment when it comes to determining consensus or reviewing a particular article; this is evidenced I feel by the fact that I have deleted nearly 14,000 pages. Impartiality is key in the administration of Wikipedia, and I strive to contribute with that in mind. - I've been on Wikipedia since July 2007, and a coordinator for MilHist since late 2008. When it comes to military history, I tend to work on biographies and maritime warfare articles, although through collaboration I have happily been introduced to hundreds of fascinating 'new' topics. I am also an active participant at WP:FAC, WP:FAR, WP:SHIPS and WP:MEDICINE.

- What have been the achievements of which you are most proud within the Military history WikiProject?
- I particularly enjoy working on articles that need copyediting or other work to make them shine. Helping others by locating additional sources or images, or by reorganizing or improving prose, is to me the most rewarding aspect of contributing here. While it's lovely to have my work acknowledged with an award or a barnstar, to me the copyedit request is the true sign of achievement: if you folks remain willing to turn your painstaking work over to me for copyediting, there must be some truth to the rumor that I know what I'm doing :)
- What skills/qualities can you contribute as a Milhist coordinator?
- I am comfortable with the routine coordinator tasks, and have extensive experience assessing articles. I am a capable and prolific copyeditor. I am a frequent reviewer at FAC and FAR, and well-versed in delivering criticism in a constructive manner and negotiating compromises. As an editor with fairly broad experience across Wikipedia, I hope to help develop our Academy into an organized, mature resource for our editors.

- What skills/qualities can you contribute as a Milhist coordinator?
- I am fairly comfortable performing all of the traditional tasks of a coordinator and also make an effort to stay involved with our review department and review articles put up for a peer review (I tend to abstain from commenting at our A-Class Review so I am available to close them upon the rare occasion that Eurocopter has not beaten us to that act). I am a certified WikiGnome and have been asked to put those skills to use many times for the benefit of the project from both coordinators and ordinary members. A prime example of this is my recent compilation of the statistics relating to the success rate of MILHIST Featured Article Candidates versus all Featured Article Candidates along with the usefulness of our A-Class Review process as it relates to success at FAC. The condensed version of my results appeared in the project's newsletter for August 2009 in the Editorial section, and the majority of my results were reported to the coordinators on our talk page here.

- I've been one of the project's coordinators since February 2008 and would like to nominate for a fourth term. During the last three terms I've preformed the full range of coordinator tasks and have tried to be an active (and hopefully constructive) participant in the project's peer and A class reviews. I've also provided advice to editors on a range of topics and have contributed to improving the project's procedures. I think that the project's main new priority for the upcoming six month is improving our documentation to provide improved guidance for editors considering topics for new articles and assessing whether existing articles really belong on Wikipedia. This could encourage editors to write about little-known but notable events and prevent the project's reputation from being dragged down by articles on non-notable topics. - What have been the achievements of which you are most proud within the Military history WikiProject?
- I'm particularly pleased to have been awarded the content review medal on most (all?) occasions it's been awarded since it was introduced. I think that the review process is central to this project's success, and I hope that I've contributed to keeping this working well. I'm also proud of being elected a coordinator three times and think that I've made a positive contribution in this role. On a personal level I've pleased to have played a lead role in bringing six articles to FA status (including three this year) and a further two to A class status as well as contributing to other highly-rated articles and starting dozens of good-quality B class articles within the scope of the project.
- What skills/qualities can you contribute as a Milhist coordinator?
- I now have extensive experience as a coordinator, and am able to perform most of the routine tasks quickly. I've also developed what I think is good judgment on how to best handle issues which come up within the project, and particularly which guidelines and policies are most relevant to solving common problems. On a related topic, I have a good understanding of the A and FA criteria and the kinds of issues which editors look for during these assessments. While it is not a requirement for coordinators, I also have administrator privileges and am a point of contact for tasks where admin intervention is needed (though I'd obviously continue to do this if this nomination isn't successful).
- Articles on non-notable topics
- Full disclosure: I am an eventualist. I'd like to know a little more about your definition of 'non-notable topics' and how you believe they are dragging down the project's reputation.

- Basically, topics which don't meet the various notability guidelines. For example, articles on non-notable people who don't meet WP:BIO or non-notable units which don't meet WP:ORG. Articles on people whose only claim to notability is winning a mid-level medal or being promoted to a mid-level rank and sub-units of large units which haven't received significant coverage in reliable sources are examples of the kind of articles I think that we need to develop guidance around as issues raised when they're brought to AfD are fairly consistent (eg, military people with admirable careers but no significant coverage in reliable sources often attract some keep votes on the grounds that editors like them and articles on units which make no claims of notability or provide any sources are taken to AfD when they could be speedy deleted per CSD A7). - I've been editing for a little over 3 years now, an admin for about a year and a half, and a member of MILHIST for quite some time. I'd say probably all of my regular editing is within the scope of this project, and most of that is in the area of naval warfare. I figured that with the burden I put on this project with the slew of articles I nominate every month for informal and A-class reviews, I should help carry a bit of the load :)
Comments and questions for Parsecboy
- What have been the achievements of which you are most proud within the Military history WikiProject?
- As many of you know, I've written a number of FAs, GAs, and A-class articles about the German Imperial Navy. I was honored to be awarded the Chevrons with Oak Leaves this summer for my work in that area.
- What skills/qualities can you contribute as a Milhist coordinator?
- I generally have a good amount of free time to contribute to Wikipedia. The area I see myself being active in immediately is the A-class review process. I also look forward to contributing to discussions at WT:MHCOORD. Like Sturmvogel, I think I can offer new perspectives to coordinator discussions. I do see myself branching out into other areas as I become more familiar with them. I also think I can give helpful advice in the realm of content-building.

- I know I encouraged you to run, but I do not want you to overburdened your first time out, nor do I want you to feel obligated to accept if you feel uncertain about your ability to handle the task, so just to clear the air: as a first time candidate for coordinator do you feel that you will be able handle the responsibility of the lead position if you are elected to it? This does not effect my !vote, I just was not excepting you to be so popular, so I just want to make sure that your up to it when you get in :)

- I've been writing and upgrading articles for about 2 years now, although I've only started to pay attention to the behind-the-scenes stuff like assessments and stuff like that for the last year or so. But despite all that time there's still a lot of stuff that I'm learning about how to actually get things done. I believe my learning curve was steeper than it should have been and I'd like to focus on getting new users up to speed more quickly. I've already written one article for the Academy and plan to do several others to that end. I've been a prolific contributor, enough so that I've won the last three contests, but I've also spent a lot of time assessing articles, mostly for B-class and shepherding others through the GA process as I feel that I can't ask time of others to assess my articles without giving my time to do the same for others.

- What have been the achievements of which you are most proud within the Military history WikiProject?
- Winning the contest has been a nice feeling, but the Content Review Medal and Guidance Barnstar were probably more important to me because they were independent of the amount of time I had available to write all those articles, which is usually quite a bit more than most people who have real lives have available.
- What skills/qualities can you contribute as a Milhist coordinator?
- I think the two biggest virtues that I have to offer the project are my time, of which I have a fair amount, and the fact that I still see things with a newbie's eyes. So I'd like to work more on the Academy so that we have single-point sources we can point to for reference when an editor is struggling. Finding things on your own can be quite time-consuming and sometimes seems impossible. And we need to alert editors to various tricks of Wikicode which can make things quite a bit simpler when writing.
- Are you an inclusionist or a deletionist? This will not effect my vote either way, I am merely curious as to your position on this matter.

- Both and neither, I think, depending exactly how you define each. When I first started editing I wrote a boatload of stub and start quality articles on stuff that interested me that wasn't already in Wiki. And as I've acquired more sources I've gone back and filled in a bunch of them and brought them up to B and GA class. - What have been the achievements of which you are most proud within the Military history WikiProject?
- By far, I'm most proud of my article writing in the realm of naval history. I've had the pelasure of researching and writing articles on a range of different ships, including the United States' USS Nevada (BB-36) and North Carolina-class battleship, the Netherlands' Design 1047 battlecruiser, and Brazil's Minas Geraes and Bahia, among others.
- What skills/qualities can you contribute as a Milhist coordinator?
- As a coord this tranche, I'll be getting back into A-class reviews, assessments at WP:MHA, and adding to discussions at WT:MHCOORD. I'm also attempting to assist Durova ( talk · contribs) in her quest to enlist some members of the project to get in touch with WMF people around the world and have them begin dialogue with museums. Through this, we hope that they will release free media in their possession to the Commons. This would benefit us greatly; the Bundesarchiv donation included many images of the German military which had previously not been covered extensively due to copyright laws.

- I didn't see any noticeable objection to the impending leave of absence I am going to take, so if the community is ok with my upcoming leave of absence then I will stand for election again. I'm TomStar81, and I've been a coordinator for a little over two years, going back to the days when Kirill Lokshin was our lead. I've been the driving (steaming?) force behind the improvement of our battleship articles for the last few years, and I've been active within the project in a number of different capacities, depending on the kind of help we needed at the time. I'd be happy to return to the coordinators circle if the community will have be back.

- Honestly, I could single one particular thing out. Between the FPs and FAs I have, the help I've offered, and the ideas I have suggested I have much to be proud of, and I do try to spread my pride around on my achievements so as not to become obsessively proud of any one particular thing.
- What skills/qualities can you contribute as a Milhist coordinator?
- I have no compulsion about thinking of or suggesting ways to improve our project, as is evidenced by the various ideas I have offered for consideration to the project coordinators. Some of my ideas -like the working group concept- have been accepted, others have were considered and passed on or simply rejected for good reason. I have also tried to be active with the ACR process since that is an undermanned area for us; typically, I run the auto scripts so as to leave suggestions based on the results the scripts generate.
- Given that you expect to be absent for much of the coming term in order to complete your university work, how much free time do you think you'll have to spend on coordinator activities?

- My plan as I see it is to take a long break beginning around the end of September and lasting until early December for one last hard push to get through collage and graduate. After that, depending on how things over here shape up, I should have the next four months to actively participate in all aspects of the project. Even in a best case scenario I expect that I will have to spend at least one semester on the sidelines before UTEP lets me back in for a shot at a masters. Operating on this logic then I ought to have from early/mid December until the next election to be as active, if not more active, then I have been up to now. - I was actually expecting this question a week ago, so I glad to see that it finally got asked. To answer your question I will address the two points asked separately so as to cover the ground adequately and concisely the first time around. I have no objections to accepting the position of Lead Coordinator, in fact I would be honored to hold that position within the project. I have had my eye on the Lead Coordinator position for a while now, while I was initially reluctant to take on that responsibility about a year and a half ago do to my inexperience with the position I now feel that I can handle whatever the position demands of me. As is evidenced by the number of people who have supported me I think that our members also feel that I will be able to handle the demands of the position as well. Having said this it can not be denied that the absence I intend to take will last two months, and would leave the project without a functioning lead coordinator such as it were. Although that may appear to be a problem initially do recall that we have a number of returning veteran coordinators who have the experience and the good judgment needed to act upon the normal issues in my absence. In addition to the 15 coordinators we will elect we also have 1 (soon to be 2) emeritus coordinators who in my absence should be able to peek in on the project and ensure that everything runs like a well oiled machine. IF for any reason though the project's members are uncomfortable with this I would happily resign my impending position as lead so as to ensure that the position of lead is filled by someone who will be present for the entire term. - After some thought, I have decided to throw my hat into the ring once again. I have been a coordinator in the past and I have decided to run again for this term. I didn't go up for re-election last year as I knew I would have less time due to real life circumstances and indeed I took a two month break from editing. Now I am back to my usual editing patterns and usual level of activity. I think I can offer something to the project and I hope I can be a help once again so I offer my services.
Comments and questions for Woody
- What have been the achievements of which you are most proud within the Military history WikiProject?
- I suppose I am most proud of my contributions to articles surrounding the Victoria Cross. I have a couple of related featured topics which I am proud of. A full list of my "article credits" can be found on my userpage. I have quite a few featured lists, a few featured articles and some featured topics. When I start on a project I usually have the ultimate aim of turning it into a featured topic. In general, I am proud of any article that has been improved as a result of my editing.
- What skills/qualities can you contribute as a Milhist coordinator?
- In general I hope that I provide help in a wide range of activities across the project. I have been involved in the contest for a long time, assessing articles, emptying backlogs and maintenance categories etc. Generally I just work in the background responding to questions, requests for advice and the like and then getting involved in the more meta aspects of the position. I have experience with almost all of the featured content review processes and I review articles as and when I feel I can offer something to the review. I will get back into the swing of reviewing in the next month or so as I have time freed up in real life.
