Blatantly obvious MO, same as always: He comes in, makes a few minor edits and waits a few days so he can get past semi-protection, then goes and removes a citation from Peter Nguyen [1] and/or Vietnamese people in Taiwan because he doesn't like the source in question ( United Daily News). He also spams machine translations to frwiki, dewiki, jawiki, etc. which get promptly deleted; see for example ja:グエン・ヴァン・フン/test.

Peter Ly is making dummy edits to his own userpage and to Nguyen Van Hung so he can get his autoconfirmed bit and go vandalise Peter Nguyen. He added a link on his userpage to fr:Utilisateur:Peopledom of China and to fr:User:Peopledom of China/Nguyen Van Hung [6] (the subpage contains a copy of the enwiki Peter Nguyen page, minus the United Daily News citation). Freedom for China is obvious, see his edit to Vietnamese people in Taiwan: [8]. This is rather unfortunate --- he appears to be getting much smarter about gaming the auto-confirmed flag. The account was created on the 8th, but he waited until today to make any edits at all.

BenjaminNguyen19750815 is making dummy edits to Nguyen Van Hung (martial artist): [9].

For the other 5 accounts, I'm a bit mystified --- they don't have any contributions yet, but Freedom for China tagged them all with {{ sock}} (marking them as sockpuppets of 台灣共和國萬歲！ ( talk · contribs), who himself I believe was blocked as a sockpuppet of Nipponese Dog Calvero. cab ( talk) 16:26, 13 April 2009 (UTC) reply

    • The name "Việt Nam Dân Chủ Tiến Bộ Đảng" (Vietnamese Democratic and Progressive Party) might look or appear Vietnamese, but it is in fact not truly so, and it has probably never been truly Vietnamese. This is called " Han-Viet", or simply, Chinese phrases, word-order, styles and grammar in Vietnamese, similar to the French and the Norman-French ones in English, and other than by a person in his 80s or 90s in terms of his years of age, or by a centenarian, (and other than a Chinese person with no, poor or broken Vietnamese) this style of names was last used generally back in the 1950s, before the Battle of Dien Bien Phu, the Geneva Accords and the out-break and the beginning of some-thing that is now generally understood, outside of Vietnam itself, to be the Vietnam War, as we now know it.
    • In modern Vietnamese, the name, due partly to French, as well as to Iberian, Portuguese and Spanish, influences to the grammar of the language, except for translations of modern names from China, from Japan and from the Korean Peninsula, should had instead been "Đảng Dân Chủ Tiến Bộ Việt Nam" (Le Parti démocrate (et) progressiste vietnamien (ou du Viêt-Nam) (El Partido Demócrata (y) Progresista de Vietnam; O Partido Democrático (e) Progressista do Vietnã)), perhaps with some, but usually without, additional hyphens.
    • Therefore, there can be of and in little doubt, and I think that I at least can safely conclude, that the person behind " User:Việt Nam Dân Chủ Tiến Bộ Đảng" is probably a speaker of Chinese, or a dialect or a form thereof, and not of Vietnamese; and " Nipponese Dog Calvero"/ "影武者"/"Kagemusha", as we know, is based in Taiwan, or the Island of Formosa, in the Northern part thereof, in New Taipei (according to the Chinese and the Japanese long-term abuse reports), and is almost certainly another speaker of largely only Chinese.
    • Furthermore, and interestingly enough, there is however, and in fact, a political party in Taiwan, or Formosa, called and known as the " Democratic (and) Progressive Party", or à la chinoise, or in Chinese, "民主進步黨", being (which is) the Taiwanese or the Formosan (pseudo-) nationalist party, and a name that translates into Vietnamese as "Dân Chủ Tiến Bộ Đảng".
    • As far as I could possibly gather, there is no lawful political party, or a dissident political party, or an émigré political party in exilé, that exists in, or from or originally from Vietnam, that has that particular rather long-winded and Socialist-sounding of a name as its name.
    • There were a few rather minor Vietnamese-related edits, of a topic or topics of an historical nature, with the rest being of a Chinese or a Japanese nature in general, or of Taiwanese or Formosan nature in particular.
    • He has also been making edits to the article for Nguyen Van Hung, one of " Nipponese Dog Calvero"/ "影武者"/"Kagemusha"'s known signatures and trade-marks of his pre-occupations, to us his outrages and abuses. — KC9TV 06:18, 16 June 2012 (UTC) reply

For a period of approximately two weeks, massive edit warring has taken place over the Vietnamese people article. The alleged sock master and (following his block) his socks have tried to insert Peter Nguyen Van Hung's picture in the infobox. CNBH (who must be at 10RR at the very least – but that is for another noticeboard) and a few others have reverted this systematically. Peter, Amin and Kenneth are already blocked, but the two most recent accounts exhibit so characteristic sock behavior with a serious of basically no-op edits to their user pages in order to become auto-confirmed that I'll block them as WP:DUCKs. It's a blooming mess, so I have fully protected the article for a week, hoping that this investigation will sort things out, ferret out sleepers and, if possible, block some IP ranges. Update, odd, yesterday when I checked contribs from Alfredo augaowen it only showed the edits for Mariko Okubo, when I checked again today I see edits dating back to May 2014, either way it still appears to be a sock of James Obama.

I request local checkuser since this user is known to mantain a large list of sockpuppets and it may be helpful to uncover any socks or sleeping accounts. No sooner did the protection on the Peter Nguyen Van Hung article expire than the socks returned, the IPs locating to Taipei as per usual. I have already blocked these incarnations, and previous ones are probably too stale for CU comparison, but I'd really like a sweep for sleepers. Blatantly obvious MO, same as always: He comes in, makes a few minor edits and waits a few days so he can get past semi-protection, then goes and removes a citation from Peter Nguyen [1] and/or Vietnamese people in Taiwan because he doesn't like the source in question ( United Daily News). He also spams machine translations to frwiki, dewiki, jawiki, etc. which get promptly deleted; see for example ja:グエン・ヴァン・フン/test.

BenjaminNguyen19750815 is making dummy edits to Nguyen Van Hung (martial artist): [9].

    • The name "Việt Nam Dân Chủ Tiến Bộ Đảng" (Vietnamese Democratic and Progressive Party) might look or appear Vietnamese, but it is in fact not truly so, and it has probably never been truly Vietnamese. This is called " Han-Viet", or simply, Chinese phrases, word-order, styles and grammar in Vietnamese, similar to the French and the Norman-French ones in English, and other than by a person in his 80s or 90s in terms of his years of age, or by a centenarian, (and other than a Chinese person with no, poor or broken Vietnamese) this style of names was last used generally back in the 1950s, before the Battle of Dien Bien Phu, the Geneva Accords and the out-break and the beginning of some-thing that is now generally understood, outside of Vietnam itself, to be the Vietnam War, as we now know it.
    • In modern Vietnamese, the name, due partly to French, as well as to Iberian, Portuguese and Spanish, influences to the grammar of the language, except for translations of modern names from China, from Japan and from the Korean Peninsula, should had instead been "Đảng Dân Chủ Tiến Bộ Việt Nam" (Le Parti démocrate (et) progressiste vietnamien (ou du Viêt-Nam) (El Partido Demócrata (y) Progresista de Vietnam; O Partido Democrático (e) Progressista do Vietnã)), perhaps with some, but usually without, additional hyphens.
    • Therefore, there can be of and in little doubt, and I think that I at least can safely conclude, that the person behind " User:Việt Nam Dân Chủ Tiến Bộ Đảng" is probably a speaker of Chinese, or a dialect or a form thereof, and not of Vietnamese; and " Nipponese Dog Calvero"/ "影武者"/"Kagemusha", as we know, is based in Taiwan, or the Island of Formosa, in the Northern part thereof, in New Taipei (according to the Chinese and the Japanese long-term abuse reports), and is almost certainly another speaker of largely only Chinese.
    • Furthermore, and interestingly enough, there is however, and in fact, a political party in Taiwan, or Formosa, called and known as the " Democratic (and) Progressive Party", or à la chinoise, or in Chinese, "民主進步黨", being (which is) the Taiwanese or the Formosan (pseudo-) nationalist party, and a name that translates into Vietnamese as "Dân Chủ Tiến Bộ Đảng".
    • As far as I could possibly gather, there is no lawful political party, or a dissident political party, or an émigré political party in exilé, that exists in, or from or originally from Vietnam, that has that particular rather long-winded and Socialist-sounding of a name as its name.
    • There were a few rather minor Vietnamese-related edits, of a topic or topics of an historical nature, with the rest being of a Chinese or a Japanese nature in general, or of Taiwanese or Formosan nature in particular.
    • He has also been making edits to the article for Nguyen Van Hung, one of " Nipponese Dog Calvero"/ "影武者"/"Kagemusha"'s known signatures and trade-marks of his pre-occupations, to us his outrages and abuses. — KC9TV 06:18, 16 June 2012 (UTC) reply

For a period of approximately two weeks, massive edit warring has taken place over the Vietnamese people article. The alleged sock master and (following his block) his socks have tried to insert Peter Nguyen Van Hung's picture in the infobox. CNBH (who must be at 10RR at the very least – but that is for another noticeboard) and a few others have reverted this systematically. Peter, Amin and Kenneth are already blocked, but the two most recent accounts exhibit so characteristic sock behavior with a serious of basically no-op edits to their user pages in order to become auto-confirmed that I'll block them as WP:DUCKs. It's a blooming mess, so I have fully protected the article for a week, hoping that this investigation will sort things out, ferret out sleepers and, if possible, block some IP ranges. Suspected sockpuppets


As can be seen by CentralAuthAs you can see here and here, the first one is confirmed at zhwiki as sockpuppet. The edit pattern of the second one reveals that the accounts are related. I request local checkuser since this user is known to mantain a large list of sockpuppets and it may be helpful to uncover any socks or sleeping accounts. No sooner did the protection on the Peter Nguyen Van Hung article expire than the socks returned, the IPs locating to Taipei as per usual. I have already blocked these incarnations, and previous ones are probably too stale for CU comparison, but I'd really like a sweep for sleepers.
