Freakolympics is a weekly program on KXradio (formerly VARA and from 2004 to March 2006 Yorin FM -) program in which Rob Stenders delved into pop history .

In 1997 Rob Stenders started Freakolympics with Fred Siebelink at his side. Every Friday night they present this program for fans of pop music who would like to discover lost music gems. For five years Stenders worked on the so-called Nerd alphabet. All songs from pop music that are relevant in his opinion are arranged alphabetically in a list that should never be exhaustive. From March 2006 it can be heard on the internet station KX Radio , first on Friday evenings with Fred Siebelink, then on Monday mornings from 9:00 am to 11:00 am. And then every Thursday from 14:00 - 16:00 from the KX studio with Stenders and Siebelink.

In January 2015 the (provisional) last FreakOlympics will be broadcast on KX Radio.

Dear Graham87, I am trying to understand why a legitimate article in German Wikipedia about an international company with 12,000 employees should not be available in English (as an unmodified import) and why I - even as a "paid editor" - am not allowed to initiate this process. What guidelines are being violated here? How should a conflict of interest arise here? In my opinion, knowledge should be available in one of the most widely spoken languages. Actually a Wikipedia goal. Maybe you can also coordinate with our reviewer MBq? Thank you. Carina.

We do things very differently on the English Wikipedia from how they're done on the German site. Hi Graham! Sorry for the inconvenience - this is my first attempt in translating an article... Ms. Neddens created the first version of the article, which is not the proper way. I totally agree. But since then, a lot of german Wikipedia users worked on referencing, verifying and improving it (please take a look the history https://de.wikipedia.org/?title=Christin_Neddens&action=history) to turn it from an "autobiography" into a serious Wiki. There even occurred a request for deletion, but the german admin refused to do so due to Ms. Neddens' relevance as a musician and the improvements/contributions from the other authors. I stumbled on the first version and was interested in improving it. No personal relationships or COI. Any chance for import? Would be great! Klaviermusikfan1972 ( talk) 17:59, 5 May 2023 (UTC)
@ Klaviermusikfan1972: I'm still not convinced. You only have 41 edits to the German Wikipedia, which is not enough to be an integral part of the community there or on any Wikimedia project. How do you know about this situation? Do you have a personal connection to her (e.g. you know her personally) or are you just a fan of her work? Has she asked for her article to be translated? The German Wikipedia has a very different approach to conflict-of-interest editing from that of the English Wikipedia. Graham 87 07:12, 6 May 2023 (UTC)
Hi Graham! Thanks for your reply! I went to a concert where she performed and liked her playing. Afterward, I wanted to get more info on her and stumbled on the German Wiki article. I’m an (amateur) musician myself and contributed to some articles on a few musicians I found interesting. Neddens studied in the US and has over 110k followers from all over the world on Instagram, and that’s why I considered it a good idea to translate into English. I know, I’m not a super experienced user, but I’m not starting a completely new article. I‘m only requesting a translation of an article that is already on Wikipedia and that was edited by a couple of established users. Klaviermusikfan1972 ( talk) 08:30, 6 May 2023 (UTC)

  • Note by importing administrator: Not done; this almost certainly requires an interface administrator, and if it doesn't that's a serious bug. So that would be @ Xaosflux:. However, I'd refuse to do this import on principle even if I could, because it's editor names that are most important, not editor timestamps, and by definition you are the only one to edit your CSS/JS subpages. I don't think it's worth gumming up edit histories for something like this that's not in the article namespace. Graham 87 03:13, 26 May 2023 (UTC)
@ Guycn2: import isn't necessary here, as you are the only author on the other project; standard process for this type of content is copy/paste, on your edit summary you can just put something like From [[:meta:User:Guycn2/UserInfoPopup.js]]. If you want the pages on metawiki deleted as well please reply back to me here and I can do this as a one-time thing (import here + delete there). — xaosflux Talk 09:11, 26 May 2023 (UTC)

Thank you both for your quick reply. Isn't preserving edit histories the main purpose of the import tool, though? It's not just about the credits; the edit history is also important in order to quickly restore previous versions of the script whenever needed, as well as for other debugging purposes. I really thought this would be a non-controvertial import, especially given it doesn't involve the article namespace but rather just my user space. Plus, AFAIK this doesn't even require dealing with complicated XML uploads, since pages from Metawiki can be easily imported "transwiki-ly". I'd appreciate if you could reconsider my request.      Not done agree with Graham87 here; not only is there a local attribution list, but the initial edit summary has a hot link to the other source; combine that the pages have since forked a bit and have intermingled edits that would require manual work or dirtying up the deleted history. — xaosflux Talk 23:32, 13 June 2023 (UTC)

@ Graham87: it's not sufficient enough. The link in the 1st revision commentary does not link to the original article. With this the original authors are not named and you violate the attribution clause of CC-by-sa license. You need to list the original authors or to import the revisions in this case. – Doc Taxon Talk • 12:20, 24 October 2023 (UTC)
@ Doc Taxon: Because of the typo in the first edit summary? That's easy to fix with a redirect on dewiki ... I'm sure JIP isn't the first person in the world to make that typo. If that redirect isn't appropriate, feel free to delete it ... if a link is added to the target on the deletion log, that would also be an adequate link in my book. This is the English Wikipedia; I'm not bound to follow the fairly extreme policies on the German Wikipedia (compared to other WMF wikis) regarding attribution. Graham87 ( talk) 12:57, 24 October 2023 (UTC)
@ Graham87: The deleted redirect is a good idea. It's not a fairly extreme policy on the German Wikipedia but an international copyleft license whose attribution clauses should not be violated. I by myself think about it, that revision imports is not the best solution as well, but a user list is required. We and other WMF wikis should not violate copyleft licenses. – Doc Taxon Talk • 14:08, 24 October 2023 (UTC)

Like ... I've never heard of anyone trying to do it *anywhere* until this discussion. If it came to a !vote on whether it should be allowed, I'd oppose FWIW ... it would make peoples' contributions pages harder to navigate, for one, and would mess with people's edit count statistics even more (imported edits aren't counted in the edit count field; see say this edit (note the higher revision ID) and compare it with this contribs page). Graham87 ( talk) 09:29, 28 October 2023 (UTC)

  • Note by importing administrator: Not done; you do not have enough experience on any wiki to write a Wikipedia article; the fact that you failed to sign your message here demonstrates this quite nicely. On the German Wikipedia you have basically been acting as a single-purpose account that only edits her article; that along with a bit of Googling based on your edit summaries in the German Wikipedia strongly implies that you have a conflict of interest/close connection regarding this person. Co-authoring books with her certainly counts as a conflict of interest. Graham87 ( talk) 14:32, 22 December 2023 (UTC)
Hi Graham, thank you for your message! You're correct, I'm actually not very experienced on Wikipedia yet and I've seen how much you've already contributed to this platform - so a big thank you for that. Can you tell me which book you believe I co-authored with Suzanne Levesque? I'm actually just an art enthusiast and would be quite thrilled if that were the case :) Thank you and have a nice day! PS: I'm still happy to carry on with the translation if you allow me to do so. Kirk power ( talk) 19:06, 11 January 2024 (UTC)
Sorry, I thought from your edit summaries on the German Wikipedia that you were Ralf Busch ... but a cursory translation of them should have laid that idea to rest! Due to your inexperience, I still don't want to import the revisions; it's not mandatory (as discussed below); see the English Wikipedia's guideline on the matter).

Over here, anyone with any connection to a company ( especially if they're being paid) has a conflict of interest (see the plain and simple conflict of interest guide). I'm not interested in communicating with you any further on this matter. Graham 87 14:52, 4 May 2023 (UTC)

  • Note by importing administrator: Not done; we don't import non-English text straight into the article namespace. Also, you don't have enough experience in Wikipedia to write articles and may well have a conflict of interest regarding the subject you're trying to write about. Graham 87 16:33, 26 July 2023 (UTC)
The German text is my own and I translated it together with a native speaker of English. However, I could not find a way to have it imported to the English version Wikpedia through my German Wikipedia-Login. I therefore created a separate login for English Wikipedia. What can I do now? Do I just build the English page from scratch? Thank you! MissHobbies ( talk) 11:22, 28 July 2023 (UTC)
If you have any significant connection whatsoever (i.e. a conflict of interest) with the library, you should just wait for someone to write/translate an article about it here. There's no need for an import if you're the same person who wrote it in the German Wikipedia. Also, I find it highly implausible that this was really your fourth edit ever. Graham 87 15:22, 28 July 2023 (UTC)

  • Note by importing administrator: @ Luitold: Not done; imports aren't required here. The first edit summary gave sufficient attribution. Graham87 ( talk) 16:00, 12 October 2023 (UTC)

  • Note: In the discussion of the source article, we came to the conclusion to split the article. I try to do this here the same way, as we do it in the German Wikipedia by importing the article in a new article in the user space, where the new article can be preapred without loosing the version hisotry of the old one.-- Pechristener ( talk) 16:13, 26 October 2023 (UTC)
  • Note by importing administrator: Not done. @ Pechristener:, that's not what we do here ... it'd gunk up contributions. See Wikipedia:Merging. Graham87 ( talk) 04:14, 27 October 2023 (UTC)
Sorry, not understood. I like to do a split, not a merge as mentioned in Wikipedia:Merging. Pechristener ( talk) 10:01, 27 October 2023 (UTC)
We still don't double up contribution history. That's just not what we do here. Graham87 ( talk) 17:12, 27 October 2023 (UTC)
Why not? It's probably not worth doing every time we text-split articles, but I don't think it's inherently a bad idea that should be ruled out. * Pppery * it has begun... 22:13, 27 October 2023 (UTC)
+1 we don't need this; just put a link to the article you are splitting from in the edit summary you start the forked article under; feel free to note that on the talk page as well. — xaosflux Talk 10:48, 28 October 2023 (UTC)
... seems like I started quite a discussion here, what was actually not may idea. For me, it is OK as it is and I will follow the split guide. However, there are different views from different Wikipedia language versions. The German Wikipedia quite insists in doubling the edit history, while in the English version, this is handled differently. Pechristener ( talk) 14:48, 28 October 2023 (UTC)

  • Note by importing administrator: Not done, we don't import non-English articles straight in to the main namespace. The translation would be your responsibility alone but I'd strongly advise against it in this case for a number of reasons, mostly because we don't even have an article about [[ Vladimír Janda, the technique's creator (due to it being [[WP:CSD#G5|created by a banned user), Wikipedia's sourcing guidelines in medical articles have extremely high standards, and the fact that you didn't even sign your message here shows that you don't have enough experience to deal with all these issues. Graham87 ( talk) 03:33, 22 November 2023 (UTC)
Well can I instead submit the technique and the author for import and translation through the channels you use for such things? Nachtkap ( talk) 14:14, 25 November 2023 (UTC)
We effectively don't have any channels for such things, as described at Wikipedia:Translation (the requested articles route described there has a multi-decade backlog). Also, we're not huge fans of alternative medicine on the English Wikipedia in general. The fact that importation is even enabled on the English Wikipedia is basically a historical accident.
You can go through the Articles for creation process; for more personalised help with it, see the teahouse. Graham87 ( talk) 06:24, 12 January 2024 (UTC)
