If someone recreates the article someday in a way that meets our notability criteria, and looks at what links to them and finds my comments, I'd be happy to undelete and relicense this logo for them then.  ★  Bigr Tex 19:38, 20 July 2016 (UTC) reply

Image is a non-free logo/patch which is being claimed to be used for "used to identify Turner Field", but that purpose is being served by File:NLE-ATL-Turner.PNG in the infobox for Turner Field, and thus fails WP:NFCC#3a as we do not need two non-free items to serve this purpose. It's usage is actually in a section of the article on the replacement for the field, and it's usage there is decorative as the patch is not the subject of sourced commentary, nor does it's removal detract from the understanding by readers that this is the final season of play at Turners Field thus failing WP:NFCC#8. Whpq ( talk) 11:22, 9 July 2016 (UTC) reply

@ Whpq: this actually belongs on the 2016 Atlanta Braves season page as it commemorates the final season of the Braves playing at Turner Field before they move to another ballpark next year. VegasCasinoKid ( talk) 18:34, 9 July 2016 (UTC) reply
@ VegasCasinoKid: Changing it to the 2016 season page removes the objection to NFCC#3a, but I don't see that it's use in the 2016 season article passes NFCC#8 as it still appears to be decorative. -- Whpq ( talk) 10:23, 10 July 2016 (UTC) reply
@ Whpq: "Decorative" is defined by WP:NFCC as "having no use for the article", right? VegasCasinoKid ( talk) 10:42, 10 July 2016 (UTC) reply
@ VegasCasinoKid: No, it isn't defined at all. I am saying that it is decorative and fails to satisfy requirement of WP:NFCC#8 which is a summary of the criteria as outlined in WP:Non-free content. Note that contextual significance is more than simply being useful to the article. -- Whpq ( talk) 11:06, 10 July 2016 (UTC) reply
@ Whpq: well how can we get the image to satisfy the contextual requirement, then? VegasCasinoKid ( talk) 13:53, 10 July 2016 (UTC) reply
You will need to find sourced commentary about the image and it's significance to the topic and explain why the lack of the image would be detrimental to the understanding of the topic. To be honest, I'm not convince that would be possible. -- Whpq ( talk) 13:16, 12 July 2016 (UTC) reply
@ Whpq: Are you saying we need to cite a source for the image? I mean, it's clear this patch depicts the Braves last season at the ballpark. VegasCasinoKid ( talk) 00:13, 13 July 2016 (UTC) reply
That's not what was meant. The article itself needs to have sourced commentary about the patch. -- Whpq ( talk) 11:04, 13 July 2016 (UTC) reply
Maybe these could be made to work somehow: Braves planning commemoration of final season at the Ted, LOOK: The Braves will wear a patch for their final season in Turner Field. -- Marchjuly ( talk) 14:23, 13 July 2016 (UTC) reply
IMO that should work. The significance of the image is that it was issued to commemorate the last season in the Turner field. If such commemorative usage is documented in the article, the image would have a fair use for identification of the work and the commemorated season. I've updated the image rationale to register such use. Diego ( talk) 15:04, 13 July 2016 (UTC) reply
That's what I call citing sources. I've been trying to make sense of the "image has the rationale, but the article doesn't need the image" attitude since day one. Thanks, diego. VegasCasinoKid ( talk) 16:44, 16 July 2016 (UTC) reply
Those "not needed" comments have little value in discussion. Policy says that contextual significance is met when the image has due weight and balance in the article. Diego ( talk) 21:40, 16 July 2016 (UTC) reply
@ VegasCasinoKid: Policy ( WP:NFCC#8) seems to say that an image is not needed when unless it's inclusion improves the reader's understanding to such a degree that removing the image would be detrminental to that understanding. Simply adding a rationale does not mean a particular non-free use complies with all 10 of the non-free content criteria. According to WP:NFC#Meeting the contextual significance criterion, one way of show that NFCC#8 is met is by including reliablely sourced content about the non-free image the file. Reliably sourced content is important, in my opinion, because it reduces the possibility of what is written being removed as WP:UNSOURCED or as WP:OR. As for the "not needed" arguments, WP:NFCCP begins with non-free use is not automatic. "Not needed" and "decorative" are often used interchangeabley to describe non-free images be mainly added to articles for show. Simply adding a file with a caption to an article in and off itself does not make non-free use OK. Which is why I feel it would be better to probably include more of the commemorative things being done, including information about the patch itself, by the Braves in their last season at Turner in the article to strengthen the case for the non-free file inclusion. "Due weight" and "balance" are much easier to show when the is something actually about the non-free image within the article which reflects what reliable sources say about it. There should be a way to include what this source says about the patch in the article and there may also be similar sources discussing the patch as well. -- Marchjuly ( talk) 01:55, 17 July 2016 (UTC) reply
@ Diego and Marchjuly: That goes back to citing sources for the images, then. I'm not saying the nominator is a bad person, but I felt it just didn't make sense to think that it had no significance to the article it was posted to. I think this discussion sheds a little light to the whole purpose of the WP:NFCC criteria (aside from the fact that the image can only be used on mainspace article pages). VegasCasinoKid ( talk) 11:47, 17 July 2016 (UTC) reply
To summerize, I'm happy to discuss the issue. If the image gets deleted, I have no hard feelings. Conflicts are a way of life here, but the fact it was discussed makes me feel good. Experience is the best teacher, and with that I've decided to move on and leave the image's fate in the hands of the person closing the discussion. VegasCasinoKid ( talk) 04:30, 18 July 2016 (UTC) reply

  • Delete If it were tagged as {{ PD-logo}}, I'd nominate it as "Orphaned logo" instead of moving it to Commons. Careers360 has so far been speedied three times, G11 in 2013 and 2014 and A7 recently, and Careers 360 was deleted through AfD here.
