Fernando Rizo ( talk · contribs) has been helping out since February with tasks ranging from Spanish translation to reverting vandalism. From my observation, he understands Wikipedia policies well and makes calm, insightful comments when participating in discussions. I think we would benefit from having him as an administrator. -- Michael Snow 05:27, 13 August 2005 (UTC) reply

Questions for the candidate
A few generic questions to provide guidance for voters:

1. What sysop chores, if any, would you anticipate helping with? (Please read the page about administrators and the administrators' reading list.)
A. As an administrator, I would help to close VfDs. I've been an active participant at VfD for a long time and I feel that I could fairly and competently execute the voting results there. I also do a good amount of RC patrol, and I'd use the revert boomstick to combat vandalism. Most importantly, being able to judiciously exercise IP blocking would help me in my frequent interactions with wayward editors. I'll speak more to that point in particular in question 2.
2. Of your articles or contributions to Wikipedia, are there any about which you are particularly pleased, and why?
A. I've started some articles, but the article contributions of which I am most proud are my ongoing work with PBY Catalina and Ancient history. Those are two articles which were somewhat lacking when I found them and have come out much better as a result of my efforts. Ericg and I, along with contributions from other editors are building PBY Catalina into a Featured Article (hopefully). We'll be nominating it in the coming week.
I'm also very proud of my interactions with some new and anonymous editors. I've turned some editors away from vandalism, and I continue to coach some others towards being more responsible Wikipedians. My most recent example of this is 69.248.202.119/ 24.51.203.176 who started out spamming military articles with fictional special forces and lately has been making worthwhile edits to articles after some prodding from me. His/her spelling and grammar could still use some work, but the journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step, right?
I also am quite proud of my contributions at Spanish Translation of the Week (SPATRA) and I do my best to contribute a disinterested, truly neutral voice to WikiProject Scientology.
3. Have you been in any conflicts over editing in the past or do you feel other users have caused you stress? How have you dealt with it and how will you deal with it in the future?
A. The largest dispute I've ever been a part of was a disgreement between the SPATRA team and a group of editors who felt that our methods were disruptive. I was part of the solution in that disagreement, and everything was resolved amicably. I have been in conflicts with anons as I alluded to above, and I've had a couple of disagreements with Kappa, as he and I often come down on opposite sides of the fence at VfD. My two disagreements with Kappa have been healthy and civilized and have never disrupted Wikipedia. In short, although there is always going to be some friction in a project such as this one, I feel that I have always acted in a manner that I can be proud of and I feel that others respect my opinion and level-headedness. I don't regret anything I've ever posted to Wikipedia, with the possible exception of that mediocre picture of me on my user page. I know that I can be counted on to continue to behave responsibly in the future.
