Nominator's rationale: We don't currently have any articles specifically about the topic of matriarchism(?) among animals. This category has been filled with articles about types of animals Ant, Baboon etc where this often appears to be a non-defining characteristic and/or is incorrect. This isn't how articles about species etc are normally categorized. See also talk page - "I'm not sure this category makes too much sense  ...". If not deleted this should be renamed to something like "Animals that live in matriarchal groups" (and purged). Note: The category creator is blocked. DexDor (talk) 06:33, 25 July 2020 (UTC) reply

The result of the discussion was: rename to Category:Computers designed in Germany & Category:Computers designed in the United Kingdom. – Fayenatic London 10:28, 23 October 2020 (UTC) reply
Nominator's rationale: move content to inventions tree, the current name wrongly suggest that computers have a nationality. We have the inventions tree for categorizing by the country of invention, which is applicable in this case. Marcocapelle ( talk) 08:01, 3 July 2020 (UTC) reply
@ Carlossuarez46 and Kitchen Knife: pinging participants to this related discussion. Marcocapelle ( talk) 08:04, 3 July 2020 (UTC) reply
Oppose. The Category no more suggests that Computers have nationality than the proposed merge target suggests that Inventions have nationality. The proposal is self inconsistent. -- Kitchen Knife ( talk) 08:31, 3 July 2020 (UTC) reply
  • Delete still, I believe that computers don't have nationality, and given the global supply chains I don't think that one person with a nationality can be attributed as the 'inventor' of the entire computer. We have also had debates on whether songs have nationality; generally, the people who wrote the songs are identifiable and their nationalities are verifiable but even so, I (and others) contend that they have no nationality. If we cannot agree that songs by Lennon-McCartney are "English songs", how can we figure out whether computers with hardware from heavens-know-where, design by unknown people, and software from some other places written by other nameless folks have any nationality. Carlossuarez46 ( talk) 21:04, 10 July 2020 (UTC) reply
This last comment is gibberish. The editor clearly has not looked at the items in the category and has a poor grasp of English and its usage. There use of "invention" is at best idiosyncratic. This is a case where native speakers of the language should be the ones deciding-- Kitchen Knife ( talk) 11:14, 25 July 2020 (UTC) reply

  • The person making the requests for change is not a native English speaker and their understanding of English in this area seems rather clumsy and unnuanced. There also seems to have been no attempt to look at the content of the category. All the machines mentioned date from the 40s, 50 designed as experimental, when the large supply chains did not exist. The user also miss uses invention when design would be more appropriate. The class of machines as a whole was invented each individual machine is a design. While I'm happy to have the category renames to say "British designed computers" or Computers designed in the UK" the subjects of the categories are valid as they capture the series of designs in an era when computer development was a national enterprise.-- Kitchen Knife ( talk) 11:25, 25 July 2020 (UTC) reply
  • The British category mainly contains computers from the 1980s, not from the 1940s or 1950s, and the computers were developed by commercial companies, they were not part of a national enterprise. Marcocapelle ( talk) 13:50, 25 July 2020 (UTC) reply
  • The Subcatogry Early British computers, would also break you "nationality" rule.
  • Thanks, you are right, I will nominate that one too. Marcocapelle ( talk) 16:40, 25 July 2020 (UTC) reply
  • Comment an iPhone has industrial design mainly in the US, parts made hither thither an yon, put together in China, and is bundled with computer code from all over as well. An American computer? A Chinese one? or do we realize that trying to ascribe nationality to objects is just misleading. Nearly every project, and you cannot show the categorized items, since about 1900 (and many long beforehand) has some multi-national component to it especially if the result is significant. Carlossuarez46 ( talk) 00:22, 28 July 2020 (UTC) reply
"Nationality is a legal identification of a person in international law, establishing the person as a subject, a national, of a sovereign state." "belonging to or relating to the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland or its people:". The word British covers more than Nationality. The problem here is your English.-- Kitchen Knife ( talk) 00:46, 30 July 2020 (UTC) reply
  • I suggest we close this now and in future restrict debates of this nature to native speakers of the language.-- Kitchen Knife ( talk) 00:46, 30 July 2020 (UTC) reply
  • I strongly disagree that this is a matter of language, it is just a matter of disagreement. And even if it were a matter of language, then close the discussion per Carlossuarez46. Marcocapelle ( talk) 22:25, 30 July 2020 (UTC) reply
It is a matter of Language your idea of what the word "British" means is incorrect. The entire argument you are making is nonsensical. Taken to it logical conclusion as molecules in the atmosphere are embed in every made or grown thing, then as those molecules can over their millions of years of existence have been all over the planet then the origin of that object can be only be defined as Earth, perhaps not even that as some molecules come from interstellar objects that were captured into the solar system. Close as per Carlossuarez46 makes no sense if it a language problem.-- Kitchen Knife ( talk) 23:58, 30 July 2020 (UTC) reply
  • Exactly so. The only thing that we can establish for e.g. Acorn Archimedes is that it was designed by a company that happened to have their main office located in the United Kingdom, not that Acorn Archimedes was British by itself. Marcocapelle ( talk) 06:51, 31 July 2020 (UTC) reply
What do you mean "exactly so". A computer Designed in the UK by a UK based and founded Company for fills the criteria to be British by that definition. The Wikiepdia Defintion

"

   People or things associated with:
       Great Britain, an island
       United Kingdom, a sovereign state
       Kingdom of Great Britain (1707–1800)
United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland (1801–1922)"

It is associated with the above places. Collins "British means belonging or relating to the United Kingdom, or to its people or culture." It is British as the Company is British, the location is British it is a product of a British Company, in Britain, it is associated with Britain by that origin. Its place of origin as an identifiable entity is Cambridge in England, in the UK, that means it is associated with it.-- Kitchen Knife ( talk) 10:48, 31 July 2020 (UTC) reply

  • You clearly do not understand what that means, it is not relevant here.-- Kitchen Knife ( talk) 11:55, 31 July 2020 (UTC) reply

@ BrownHairedGirl: I, the contributor on I Can See Your Voice, and i oppose merging that category, because each ICSYV franchise have its own separated category, which includes a main and seasonal page (e.g. I Can See Your Voice (South Korean game show) category has a main page and seven season pages). — Preceding unsigned comment added by Makoy Canlas ( talkcontribs) 13:17, 1 July 2020 (UTC) reply

Because there were upcoming ICSYV franchises as soon as it premieres, i've gonna stay them as a separated categories. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Makoy Canlas ( talkcontribs) 22:22, 1 July 2020‎ (UTC) reply
@ Makoy Canlas, you have already said that you oppose, so no need to repeat yourself. The issue here is that per WP:SMALLCAT, the categories should not exist unless and until there are a decent number of articles to populate them. Peesh ili luzhesh aired for one season in 2016, so it's unlikely that more articles about will be created. -- BrownHairedGirl (talk) • ( contribs) 23:44, 1 July 2020 (UTC) reply

  • Merge per nom. From what I see in Category:Newspapers by language we only categorize newspapers by minority languages. Marcocapelle ( talk) 00:57, 25 June 2020 (UTC) reply
  • Keep - there appear to be 3 official languages in Somaliland - Somali, Arabic, English (+ several others). Category:Urdu-language newspapers has a variety of subcats. (I have no idea whether Somali-language newspapers are published anywhere else but a guess would be Somalia.) Oculi ( talk) 10:34, 25 June 2020 (UTC) reply
    • But the two entries in Category:Somali-language newspapers are both duplicated in the subcat and their articles say they are both published in Somaliland. Until we have some articles that need to be distinguished in this way, the category serves no purpose. I suspect it was only created to try and add some legitimacy to the unrecognised state of Somaliland. Spinning Spark 11:21, 25 June 2020 (UTC) reply
      • Yes, but this does not mean that other such newspapers cannot be found, possibly quite easily (I haven't looked). Somali is spoken in a wider area than Somaliland. Just because an inexperienced editor has created categories without parents etc does not imply that the categories are not viable. Oculi ( talk) 11:56, 25 June 2020 (UTC) reply
        • It does not matter how easily, or otherwise, other newspapers can be found. Until Wikipedia has articles for them, they don't need a category. Spinning Spark 09:40, 25 July 2020 (UTC) reply

Nominator's rationale: WP:OCEPON (the only article in the category that is specifically about TR is the eponymous article). Being associated with TR is a non-defining characteristic of e.g. Quilliam (think tank). DexDor (talk) 08:04, 25 July 2020 (UTC) reply

Nominator's rationale: only content is the eponymous Peesh ili luzhesh. The show ran only for one season, so it will always be a WP:SMALLCAT. BrownHairedGirl (talk) • ( contribs) 13:05, 1 July 2020 (UTC) reply
@ Makoy Canlas: I have already tagged the other two subcats for speedy merger per WP:C2F, because they also fail WP:SMALLCAT. @ BrownHairedGirl and Marcocapelle: I oppose merging categories Falsez pentru tine, I Can See Your Voice (Dutch game show), I Can See Your Voice (German game show), and I Can See Your Voice (American game show) too.

Nominator's rationale: Reduntant (language and place). Fuddle ( talk) 00:09, 25 June 2020 (UTC) reply
