Dear Worm That Turned,
My name is Jonathan Obar user:Jaobar, I'm a professor in the College of Communication Arts and Sciences at Michigan State University and a Teaching Fellow with the Wikimedia Foundation's Education Program. This semester I've been running a little experiment at MSU, a class where we teach students about becoming Wikipedia administrators. Not a lot is known about your community, and our students (who are fascinated by wiki-culture by the way!) want to learn how you do what you do, and why you do it. A while back I proposed this idea (the class) to the community HERE, where it was met mainly with positive feedback. Anyhow, I'd like my students to speak with a few administrators to get a sense of admin experiences, training, motivations, likes, dislikes, etc. We were wondering if you'd be interested in speaking with one of our students.
So a few things about the interviews:
Bottom line is that we really need your help, and would really appreciate the opportunity to speak with you. If interested, please send me an email at obar@msu.edu (to maintain anonymity) and I will add your name to my offline contact list. If you feel comfortable doing so, you can post your name HERE instead.
If you have questions or concerns at any time, feel free to email me at obar@msu.edu. I will be more than happy to speak with you.
Thanks in advance for your help. We have a lot to learn from you.
Sincerely,
Jonathan Obar -- Jaobar ( talk) 07:26, 12 February 2012 (UTC) Young June Sah -- Yjune.sah ( talk) 22:10, 15 February 2012 (UTC)

Hi WTT, how have you been? Very busy in your new sysop role I should imagine. Thank you for being patient while I was away very busy in real life. I should have a little more time over the next few months and would like to pick up again where we left off with my adoptee lessons. Would you be able to 're-activate' me so I can continue in your school? Sincerely, Antarctic-adventurer (talk) 19:05, 16 February 2012 (UTC)
Hi Worm,
I was actually going to suggest you to her as a an adopter but noticed you'd posted on her talk page already. I think the problem being faced is she has quite an "I know best" attitude that is going to get hit hard when she runs into some more serious hurdles than just inappropriately wanting to adopt another user. Her reply to you indicates to me that she would enter adoption only because you really want to be her adopter as opposed to her realising that she needs adoption. Hi Worm,
I've discovered some copyvio or copypaste in an article I've been review. I've been reading the various wiki articles on this issue, but they're hard to understand exactly how much can be copied "more than five words" or the "close paraphrase stuff". Also, I don't want to come across like a ten ton truck. How to handle this? MathewTownsend ( talk) 20:56, 18 February 2012 (UTC)

I just changed your strikethrough on Wikipedia:Arbitration/Requests/Case/Article titles and capitalisation/Workshop - you got one paragraph by Greg L while striking through JCS's contributions. Hope that's ok. -- SarekOfVulcan (talk) 18:07, 23 February 2012 (UTC)
Could you take a look at Wikipedia:Arbitration/Requests/Case/Article titles and capitalisation/Workshop#SarekOfVulcan's evidence and clean it up a bit, before I start replying? I'm not sure the current formatting is quite what was intended. Thanks. -- SarekOfVulcan (talk) 18:39, 24 February 2012 (UTC)

Please have a look, the image is about the districts of Indian Punjab/East Punjab - in other words, the district map of Indian Punjab, but it's an outdated image that not includes the newly born/created districts: Pathankot district, Fazilka district, Barnala district. But as it's used on many pages in english wiki and globally, it's providing an incompelete info. Want you to decide better. TariButtar ( talk) 15:52, 27 February 2012 (UTC)
Worm, I have posted this at AGK's talkpage:
AGK, it is distressing to me that this ArbCom Workshop page is still open. No one wants to suppress free discussion; but a new and irregular posting has now been made, interrupting my life yet again to answer it. I have conformed to all procedural requirements the best way I can, and it is unfair that others are permitted to take advantage of that (perhaps hoping to get the last word, I suppose).
Please close and protect the page now, since your revised deadline has long passed. Anyone can carry on discussion at the talkpages for the case, if they really must.
But perhaps the matter is for a clerk to deal with, so I draw your attention to it also.

Re your Qs on Five Pillars: Q4: I think you are trying to say "is the BBC a reliable source writing about its own series 'The Troubles'?". Please re-word the question to make this clear and fix the The Troubles link to point to the article about the series. Q7: this question is now too easy - follow the link to hopsandpips.com! — RHaworth ( talk · contribs) 09:55, 28 February 2012 (UTC)
Are you suggesting that ITV is widely regarded as an unreliable source? The answer I would give to your question is "BBC news and ITV news are both reliable sources for Wikipedia purposes but, given a choice, BBC news is generally considered the more reliable". Is that the answer you were expecting? If so, a) it is far too subtle a difference to be worth using as a question and b) would you expect someone from Oklahoma (young or old) to be able to even start answering? — RHaworth ( talk · contribs) 11:08, 28 February 2012 (UTC)

Round 1 is already over! The 64 highest scorers have progressed to round 2. Our highest scorer was Grapple X ( submissions), again thanks mostly to a swathe of good articles on The X-Files. In second place was Tigerboy1966 ( submissions), thanks an impressive list of did you knows about racehorses. Both scored over 400 points. Following behind with over 300 points were Ruby2010 ( submissions), Cwmhiraeth ( submissions), Miyagawa ( submissions) and Casliber ( submissions). February also saw the competition's first featured list: List of colleges and universities in North Dakota, from Ruby2010 ( submissions). At the other end of the scale, 11 points was enough to secure a place in this round, and some contestants with 10 points made it into the round on a tiebreaker. This is higher than the 8 points that were needed last year, but lower than the 20 points required the year before. The number of points required to progress to round 3 will be significantly higher.
The remaining contestants have been split into 8 pools of 8, named A through H. Round two will finish in two months time on 28 April, when the two highest scorers in each pool, as well as the next 16 highest scorers, will progress to round 3. The pools were entirely random, so while some pools may end up being more competitive than others, this is by chance rather than design.
The judges would like to point out two quick rules reminders. First, any content promoted during the interim period (that is, on or after 27 February) is eligible for points in round 2. Second, any content worked on significantly this year is eligible for points if promoted in this round. On a related note, if you are concerned that your nomination, be it at good article candidates, a featured process or anywhere else, will not receive the necessary reviews, please list it on Wikipedia:WikiCup/Reviews. However, please remember to continue to offer reviews at GAC, FAC and all the other pages that require them to prevent any backlogs which would otherwise be caused by the Cup. As ever, questions are welcome on Wikipedia talk:WikiCup and the judges are reachable on their talk pages or by email. Good luck! If you wish to start receiving or stop receiving this newsletter, please feel free to add or remove yourself from Wikipedia:WikiCup/Newsletter/Send. Hello Dave, or Worm if you prefer, I'm Kim :)
I've started getting properly into Wikipedia in the last few weeks. I can feel addiction merrily chomping down on me and I think it's high time I found a mentor to direct my energy. Now, you are officially Good At Thistm, but it's more than that. I stalked you a little (forgive me) and checked out some of your conflict resolution history, and realised that you take Assuming Good Faith and elevate it to a fine art. Although I love to help people, I find I have trouble maintaining my patience and a cool head when others pull their weapons out. I pull mine out too, and then it's very difficult to get me to budge from my position. So I am not only looking for lessons (although I would like that too, for the knowledge!) - I'm seeking someone I can look up to as a role model in the long term. I'd be very proud if that could be you.
Unfortunately, although you are listed in the Adopters list as available, I saw that your user page says you are not seeking new adoptees, and your talk page also mentions how busy you are. Still, I reckoned the worst you can say is no. :) On the other hand, I am not in any great rush and perfectly willing to wait until you have a vacancy, and I hope I wouldn't be a particularly 'high-maintenance' student.
In other news, my heart is in the West Country too... Exeter graduate, still feel more at home in Devon than anywhere else in the country. You wouldn't catch me drinking Doom Bar though. Blech. Cider please! Thank you for your time. ~ Kimelea ( talk) 16:41, 6 March 2012 (UTC)

Thank you for making an alteration on my user page. However, I thought it was against Wikipedia polices for anyone to edit user page that wasn't their own, regardless of admin status - unless there was offensive material that warranted such action. To be clear, I'm in no way claiming ownership of that article, I was simply trying to remove poor spelling and grammar, remove any unnecessary information and condense each character synopsis down into shorter, easier to read paragraphs, because I feel they're a bit too long. However, any edit I make is deleted after a few days, and the article is returned t exactly, word for word, the way it was before I edited it, so I suspect that whoever wrote the article originally IS claiming ownership. Thank you once again for your time. MunkkyNotTrukk ( talk) 20:22, 21 March 2012 (UTC)

Good luck!

I set it up for you without asking because I wanted to help out with archiving.— cyberpower TalkOnline 22:42, 16 March 2012 (UTC)

Thanks for adding to my potential article and that will really come in handy. Just wondering what your opinion of the recent block on User:DeFacto was from an admin POV? Thanks Jenova 20 13:30, 19 March 2012 (UTC)
How do i do it and merge the content of Straight pride into Gay Pride without copying and pasting? Thanks Jenova 20 17:27, 19 March 2012 (UTC)
What if I don't like the person? How will they know that I do not like them?! — Preceding unsigned comment added by Justgravy ( talk • contribs) 16:41, 20 March 2012 (UTC)
Are you on line now? I'd like to discuss something with you. Also, the hardest part of the "test" is finding articles that I'm capable of cleaning up. Most require being able to add references that I can't find. Also, on the vandal patrol, I almost never revert using "vandal" unless it is very very very clear. I prefer to give a reason instead and use the "undo". So I hope the ones I selected are appropriate. MathewTownsend ( talk) 16:40, 15 March 2012 (UTC)
hey, Worm. Did I pass the test? Your adoptee, MathewTownsend ( talk) 13:54, 21 March 2012 (UTC)
Hi Worm! Thank you for signing up to be a future host at the Teahouse. Well, great news - the future is here, we'd love you to be a Teahouse host! During this pilot time, Teahouse hosts do more than just ask questions - they invite new users to the Teahouse and track those invitations, they also provide input and insight into the development of the Teahouse. A few things I'd love to see you do as a Teahouse host:
I'm so happy that you volunteered to lend a hand at the Teahouse. I look forward to following your contributions and invitations, and your assistance in making the Teahouse a great and warm place for new Wikipedians. See you there :) Sarah ( talk) 21:52, 20 March 2012 (UTC)
Dear Worm That Turned, I just asked a question at the Teahouse that you might have interest in! I hope you'll stop by and participate! Sarah ( talk) 01:34, 21 March 2012 (UTC) |

Hello. This message is being sent to inform you that there is currently a discussion at Wikipedia:Administrators' noticeboard/Incidents regarding an issue with which you may have been involved. Thank you. The discussion is WP:ANI#Admitted sock of Trumpkin -- Boing! said Zebedee ( talk) 13:15, 21 March 2012 (UTC)
Hi Worm! Thanks for answering questions at the Teahouse, as part of your role as a host, of course! I did notice that upon your response to TLBateson you didn't respond to her with a Teahouse talkback on her talk page. While we were lucky and she checked back for her response, most new editors don't know about the watchlist tool and have also proven to come back if we let them know we responded to their question. It's mentioned Host tips page I mentioned above and also on a general template collection we have that features all of our templates, thus far! I hope you find value and use in these :) Sarah ( talk) 13:36, 21 March 2012 (UTC)
Hello, it's MunkkyNotTrukk. Thank you very much for your answer to my feedback, and to answer your question, the page I was trying to contribute to was List of Characters in Transformers Prime.

Hello grand overseer of so much Wikipedia knowledge. Can i ask how long a speedy delete usually takes? I wasn't thinking it would be instantaneous but we're going on 2 hours now so i'm just interested on how big the wait is usually. Magic Hour (English band Cast album) Thanks Jenova 20 16:15, 22 March 2012 (UTC)
Do you think combining Magic Hour and The Magic Hour would be controversial? They list a few of the same things and they're both disambig pages. I'd rather ask advice before i act on this. Jenova 20 16:56, 22 March 2012 (UTC)
We're gonna need someone to step in here. The page is changing drastically day to day and since you're my fave admin i'm giving you first refusal. [5] Thanks Jenova 20 23:04, 22 March 2012 (UTC)
Re Amy's answer on the RS pillar -- we both know easily accessible isn't a requirement for RS; not sure if you want to mention it or not:

I have three coursework deadlines coming up for next friday, so I cannot afford to be distracted by WP :/ . I have added wikibreak enforcer to my User:Gilderien/vector.js page. See you in a week :-) -- Gilderien Talk| Contribs 18:47, 18 March 2012 (UTC)
User:MathewTownsend seems to be having a case of "I didn't hear that" ( 1) and deliberately misconstruing stuff ( 1, 2) for the Signpost writeup on Whistler's Mother, a painting which he doesn't think is iconic and has refused to budge from said position. The article has been given three citations to back up the fact ( 1, 2). Perhaps you could weigh in? Crisco 1492 ( talk) 01:01, 25 March 2012 (UTC)
Hey, you joined the Teahouse! I can't believe I missed that for three days. And the really surprising thing is they asked me before they asked you! How strange, you would have been the first choice if I was choosing hosts, given how you are the best adopter here. Hope we have a good time there together. Hi there - sorry I didn't reply to your message earlier, I have been very busy and not very active on WP of late. Congrats on the GA though, it looks like you've done a really good job with it! -- Beloved Freak 10:27, 25 March 2012 (UTC)
Hi WormTT. Can you help me with this template? I can't get it right and it's annoying me. I've finally finished it but can't get the reference in without the table refusing to show up properly, and so i'm left with a reference name and no reference...
