I'm always worried about using any humor at all in a formal process, so I'm glad you didn't mind. BusterD ( talk) 10:07, 30 April 2008 (UTC)
I think the formal process is even more reason to lighten things up when appropriate. It saves all of our sanity TRAVELLINGCARI My story Tell me yours 12:56, 30 April 2008 (UTC)
A sweet thing to say, especially when we're disagreeing on the merits. My concern was that I made an English-centric joke when in a discussion about a Tamil-centric subject. While I want to keep it light, a recent experience has demonstrated for me the value of clarity in formal processes where humor might be seen as an unintentional form of biting. So I very much value your warm comments. Thanks again. If I can ever be of assistance, feel free to contact me on talk. BusterD ( talk) 20:39, 30 April 2008 (UTC)
I should also say thanks for pursuing the second nom for this page, even if I disagree, because after the two relistings, you are getting plenty of good editors to comment. BusterD ( talk) 20:46, 30 April 2008 (UTC)
Yep, I think any AfD regardless of the outcome needs participation in order to truly have consensus. 2 -1 or similar in either direction is nowhere near consensus. I may not agree with some of the views presented but I'll always read them -- I stepped away from the back and forth because we were just re-hashing the same argument and it was clear that we weren't going to move forward so that's why I'm just reading until/unless a new point is made that needs addressing. I'll happily reach out to you in the future, please do the same.
One thing is forsure, more has been written about her on Wikipedia then in all of the Hindu press combined. :-) -- brew crewer (yada, yada) 22:02, 30 April 2008 (UTC)

My Mother is a Tractor : Deletion

Hi TC. I know I cannot stand in the way of a tidal wave of wiki opinion but just wanted to add some notes for you.

  • I'm originally from Australia but have not lived there for 8 years, hence those edits are the work of whoever - but not me. Upon checking Qworty's link I see they were added on June 6, 2006 - one of the busiest weeks of my year (exam week in Shanghai).
  • It may be self-published but, if you follow the Amazon sales, it's usually only outsold by "Learning to Bow" in the pantheon of 'JET' books.
  • Notability does not seem to matter much to Indiana University and Dokkyo University who utilise it as a standard text in courses WP:BK - Point 4
  • It's archived by both the National Diet Libary (Japan) and Library and Archives (Canada) WP:BK#Threshold_standards
  • This book has been independently reviewed by Japan Visitor, The Crazy Japan Times, Rocky Mountain JETAA and Rough Guide Japan WP:BK - Point 1
  • As for personal non-nobility that's not in question here, and neither would I ever assert it - although some have alluded to it. FYI I have had other work published in major media such as The Japan Times, Shanghai Daily, Fukuoka-Now, Asia! and Voyage.
  • Lastly if anyone have ever written a book one would realise the path of 'vanity press' is much easier one to tread than the continual slog of agents and publishing houses. Qworty obviously doesn't like POD/"Vanity Press' Talk:Trafford_Publishing and has deleted all other references without waiting for judgement here, so one must presume deletion a fait accompli

Given the last point I have therefore saved a copy now as a last hurrah, expecting the worst. Good evening and good luck. —Preceding comment added by Nklar ( talkcontribs) 15:46, 01 May 2008 (UT

When is an article a stub.

This is covered in Wikipedia:Stub. Like most guidelines, there is some leeway. Size is not always an indicator. Personally, I don't like it if the article is really a related list. However if it has multiple sections with text it clearly is past a stub. While I'm review one class of stubs right now, I'm also leaving many tagged as stubs since they are. So, bottom line there is some subjectivity and I tend to lean on not tagging a stub in the close cases. I might add {{ expand}} to some. Vegaswikian ( talk) 19:18, 2 May 2008 (UTC)

Got it, thanks. Had a feeling there was a guideline I hadn't read. TRAVELLINGCARI My story Tell me yours 19:20, 2 May 2008 (UTC)
On your second question, an article that is past being a stub may also need expansion so the {{ expand}} tag can be used. All stubs need expansions, but not everything needing expansion is a stub. Vegaswikian ( talk) 19:22, 2 May 2008 (UTC)

Re:Image Questions/Process

I removed the speedy tag because with some image problems (no source, no copyright tag, no fair use rationale, replaceable/contested fair use image, orphaned fair use) we must instead tag for a varying number of days, after which time the image can be deleted, so that the problems can potentially be fixed. The reason I removed one edit and tagged the next was so that I could tag it using Twinkle, saving me a small amount of time by automatically notifying the user and meaning I don't have to remember the names of the appropriate templates. As for the actual tags, off hand, I'm not certain where to find them, but I remembered orphaned fair use is {{orfud}} and replaceable is {{rfud}}. As I say, using Twinkle, I don't have to remember them now. Does that answer your question? J Milburn ( talk) 16:18, 3 May 2008 (UTC)

It's more like a prod. The image eqivilent of AfD is IFD, but that's not something I habituate. J Milburn ( talk) 16:23, 3 May 2008 (UTC)

admin

Hey. I've seen your work at AfD around a lot lately, and was wondering if you'd like to consider adminship at WP:RFA. I'd gladly nominate you if you're interested. Wizardman 22:13, 3 May 2008 (UTC)

Thanks, Wizardman. I appreciate the vote of confidence. Rudget/Keeper brought the topic up with me and as I mentioned to them, I'd like a little longer to get my feet wet and delve further into more areas. You can see in my comment there, some concerns I have where I'm not sure I'm ready. As I work more on WP:MUSEUMS and create more articles there from scratch, I realize there's a lot that I'm unfamiliar with -- and some recent debates over categories has me a little worried that questions I've raised will come back to 'bite' me, so to say. So I'd like a little more time to delve further. I'm also still somewhat looking for an admin coach -- do you do that and or know someone who does? There's a backlog on the page of people looking for admins and I'd asked Keeper, who was pretty well 'full'. I think some coaching would help me in the less familiar areas. Thanks again! Oh, come on, stop teasing everyone!Go for the Rfa already!-- brew crewer (yada, yada) 02:07, 4 May 2008 (UTC)
I don't do coaching, and actually I only ask people if I think they're ready now, which I believe you to be. Just my two cents. Wizardman 02:22, 4 May 2008 (UTC)
Thank you both. Honestly, I don't want an unsuccessful so I want to make sure I'm ready. I'm going to take a little more time to think about it but I really appreciate the votes of confidence. Exams and what not are over so I have more play time, I'm going to put it to good use. TRAVELLINGCARI My story Tell me yours 03:57, 4 May 2008 (UTC)

Oh because I'm racist and it was a pointy nom and....I got so sick of going in circles with Tomb over the same argument. Had she been in America with so little coverage I doubt it would have been an issue but... That said, I saved some Indian articles where there was coverage -- it's a convenient "oh it's bias and it isn't available online" for n-n people but no comparison when some *are* notable. Now I might try another go wtih Carmelo Papotto. TravellingCari the Busy Bee 03:39, 7 May 2008 (UTC)
That one looks interesting. I was quite shoocked when I saw this: List of contactees. Most of the articles on the list are well written. Who are these editors that are making articles about these people? Are they UFO believers?-- brew crewer (yada, yada) 03:53, 7 May 2008 (UTC)
Found Carmelo when I did Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/UFO sightings in Libya. I don't know, the fringe stuff really befuddles me at times, as does the obsession over TV minutiae. Then again, I just saved a museum on dairy Southwest Dairy Museum so I think I'm a bit odd too o:)
I noticed that you have a Spanish background so maybe you can help me with this section. I'm unsure if they are surnames or given names so I put them in a seperate section for now. Would you know anything about it? -- brew crewer (yada, yada) 15:05, 7 May 2008 (UTC)
Spanish can be culturally confusing because there is the precedent of having geographic location. "de..." is literally, "from ..." and Hispanic names can get confusing, see here and here for some examples of why it's so confusing. Leaving it as a surname would be fine but when looking at it from an English-speaking POV I think non-Spanish speakers would be likely to call iti a middle name. Does that make any sense? TravellingCari the Busy Bee 15:18, 7 May 2008 (UTC)
Wow, I didn't realize its so complicated. I guess I'll leave it as it is for now, until I miracliously get over my perputual laziness problem. -- brew crewer (yada, yada) 15:28, 7 May 2008 (UTC)
I've been better about that lately, but some where I !vote keep in AfD I just don't feel like working on the articles because I have zero interest in the subject and while I think the subject is notable, I don't care if they're covered or not. A related issue, Ernest Sipes recreated today. Blech. No motivation to clean that one. TravellingCari the Busy Bee 15:37, 7 May 2008 (UTC)

Hi - I see you have recently created one or more new stub types. As it states at Wikipedia:Stub, at the top of most stub categories, and in many other places on Wikipedia, it is recommended that new stub types are proposed prior to creation at Wikipedia:WikiProject Stub sorting/Proposals. This is partly in order to check whether the new stub type is already covered by existing stub types, whether it is named according to stub naming guidelines, whether it is otherwise correctly formatted, whether it reaches the standard threshold for creation of a new stub type, and whether it crosses existing stub type hierarchies, and partly so that those who regularly deal with stub articles know what stub types are likely to need re-sorting soon. Your new stub type is currently listed at WP:WSS/D - please feel free to make any comments there as to any rationale for this stub type. And please, in future, consider proposing new stub types first! Grutness... wha? 03:23, 6 May 2008 (UTC)

I see that you brought it to AFD, which is appropriate if you believe it should be deleted but don't think it meets a speedy deletion criterion. Hmm, the cleanup tag may have been a bit harsh, but in these cases it is always good to push article quality 'well into the black' (i.e. 'credit' area IYKWIM) to avoid these situations. In this case, some more detail on techniques and why they are notable would flesh out the article and balance prose that veers towards advertorial sounding, such as 'reknowned' etc. Not much but a little'd be good. Sockpuppet of User:WJH1992

He was blocked in November but won't go away. Problem is that some of his edits are useful (such as the Gary Glitter ones) but others are just hopeless. He was blocked because it took too long to go through his huge numbers of edits and check them. He pops up every few days or so, and I block him on sight; he's most noticeable by his edits to TV actors and cars, always messing about with infoboxes. He seems to have improved, but needs to ask for unblocking on his sockmaster account. Given the multiple sockpuppetry since, I don't see it happening. -- Rodhull andemu 23:00, 13 May 2008 (UTC)

Comment here so the interested parties can comment in one place. After learning that I'm not moving as soon as planned and another discussion with Keeper, I decided it's now or never. While I don't "need" the tools (no one does), I think I'd be able to help improve the project overall with them. I'm putting this here for discussion from those who offered a co-nom to see a) if each of you is still interested and b) to proceed. I answered the first three questions and am ready to answer whatever else comes at me. I'm on Eastern Standard Time and will be generally online this evening (dinner, commute excluded) to answer any of your questions. Definitely want to say thank you for each of your encouragement in this. Whether or not it passes, and I hope it does, I like knowing I have support of other editors/admins. I'll add in my co-nom later today or tonight. Ideally I'd like to add it in before it goes live of course, but tht shouldn't be a problem. Wizardman 20:08, 14 May 2008 (UTC)
TCari, are two co-noms sufficient, or do you think Rudget/Brew/email would wanna shot for a third? I refuse to allow more than 3 co-noms, as it makes "voters" a bit sketchy. Excellent. As long as you view this as "a really intense, public, harsh editor review", than you should be fine! Keeper | 76 | Disclaimer 20:43, 14 May 2008 (UTC)
Never undergone an editor review basically because I haven't seen their benefit. I've read through the page and seen people get a handful of comments but I'm not one to beg people to comment on me. With this I see it as I've had positive interactions with all those I've encountered on Wikipedia (including those where we don't always agree) and at the worst, I'll learn how to become a better editor. As I promised you, I'm not going anywhere. This is too much fun. TravellingCari the Busy Bee 20:46, 14 May 2008 (UTC)

Categories

Thanks for the fun barnstar. Where do they all come from?

I'm happy to add the categories to new listings. The Amelia museum just popped up at me. With large states it's helpful to have the lists eventually by region, so for now I'm adding Visitor attractions in Long Island, etc. Another option is to have Museums in Long Island as a subset, like Museums in NYC. Which do you think should be used for the long term categorizations in NY state? There will eventually (hopefully) be so many articles, but it's hard to see them all at once unless the List of museums in NY is used. I'm just trying to think logically for the long term benefit of the categories. Opinion? Jllm06 ( talk) 20:07, 14 May 2008 (UTC)

I don't know if it's a complete list, but I find them at Wikipedia:Barnstars. I don't like the standard ones, prefer instead to find ones more suitable to t he particular task(s). I'm guessing Museums... is a sub-set of visitor attractions because many things are visitor attractions, not all of which are museums. I don't know necessarily that we need both for all areas. Would people be more or less likely to search for one or the other category? There was recently a discussion (I'll find the link if I can) about over categorization as it related to children's museums, don't know if that's likely to be an issue here. I'm eager to use the NY list to fix the NYC museums and cultural institutions, which is currently a mess. Want to raise this at the Museums discussion page for more input? I'll put this on your talk page in case you're not watching this. Thanks again! TravellingCari the Busy Bee 20:22, 14 May 2008 (UTC)

Just my 2¢ in response to Le Grand Roi des Citrouilles' oppose vote. Regarding the four AFDs that he mentions, starting with the one where I agree with him and ending with the one where I agree with you:
Anyway, thanks for hearing me out, and good luck. 69.140.152.55 ( talk) 01:45, 16 May 2008 (UTC)
Thanks, 69.140. Re: Eve Carson, yeah it wasn't the most sensitive comment. There had been a spate of "news=notable" AfDs and I think I was a bit worn out. I still stand by the underlying comment that she isn't notable apart from dying, but I probably could have phrased it better. Exit Mundi I think is a prime example of why WP:WEB needs to be made more clear. Thanks again for your comments. TravellingCari the Busy Bee 02:12, 16 May 2008 (UTC)
To say somebody "isn't notable apart from dying" seems to me somewhat insensitive; also, WP:BLP1E as I understand applies primarily to living individuals. Again though, just my opinion. (By the way, I propose moving the section below above this section, so that the chronological progression of y comments on your talk page is clearer.) 69.140.152.55 ( talk) 05:30, 16 May 2008 (UTC)
I'll try to dig up the discussion for you, but there was some involved discussion on whether crime victims are notable simply for being killed. WP:ONEEVENT was once not a re-direct to WP:BLP1E which addressed the issue of it applying to those now deceased. It ties into WP:NOTNEWS and whether a particular murder is actually notable. There was even a proposal for notability as it related to crime victims but I need to do some digging. While these AfDs tend to go 50/50, there is a good argument that if they hadn't died, we wouldn't be discussing them. Will ask Keeper, who I believe participated in that discussion to see if he remembers more clearly where any of this discussion was. Oh and no worries re: talk page flow, it gets a bit discombobulated from time to time. TravellingCari the Busy Bee 13:51, 16 May 2008 (UTC)
Wikipedia:Notability (criminal acts) was the proposed guideline, some interesting discussion on the talk page too if you're interested TravellingCari the Busy Bee 14:23, 16 May 2008 (UTC)
Psst.... is the proposed guideline - the proposal is still active Fritzpoll ( talk) 14:25, 16 May 2008 (UTC)

Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Country Thunder Records

Regarding this AfD, none of those Google News hits is really substantial in its coverage. Heartland is definitely notable, and Jamie Lee Thurston might be notable (he charted a single in 2003, but he was on View 2 at the time), but I'm finding nothing to verify any of the article's content besides its roster. No problem. I've only ever used WP:DELT for that reason, it isn't just limited to AfD, which is a bonus for gaining all-round experience. I want to apply (or be applied for) another RfA in a few months time so it's kind of essential I get that experience - especially since my first one failed. Thanks, see WP:NAC. I'm not sure whether IPs can do it or you'd need an account. I'm thinking you would due to the issues on IPs nominating articles for AfD but I'm not 100% positive. TravellingCari the Busy Bee 13:53, 15 May 2008 (UTC)
On a different note, can you please come and visit WP:AFD/Instant-runoff voting controversies (2nd nomination)? This afd is in need of careful and impartial consideration of the kind that you might give to it. (Concern has been expressed on another user talk page that one of the principal participants is COI and/or POV.) Basically I wish to recruit additional, thoughtful, neutral editors (whose opinion I cannot know in advance) to offer their opinions. 69.140.152.55 ( talk) 03:37, 17 May 2008 (UTC)

Icelandic Phallological Museum : Vandal Report

Hello, I have found you being a power Wikipedian. You have currently marked one of my edit as VANDALISM regarding the topic Icelandic Phallological Museum. As per my best knowledge, I couldn't been able to find any kind of VANDALISM I hav done in this topic as per WIKI rule of Vandalism. Even if you think it is one, I deservd a WARNING before labeled as VANDAL.

As it comes to my notification, My edit, as it was restored back to previous state, is again rolled back (& not by me). As of the Year of birth, 1915 borns are of age 93 by this year, as of my best concern (it was priorly 92).

So I seek your reply regarding this matter. I also request you to ask moderators to remove VANDALISM tag from this edit.

Expecting your reply to be positive to me & as soon as possible. Thank You,

- Deblopper ( talk) 09:28, 19 May 2008 (UTC)

Hi Deblopper, it wasn't your edit (which appears fine, as you said) but rather this edit which was vandalism. I restored the article to 'your' version. Let me know if you have any other questions TravellingCari the Busy Bee 13:28, 19 May 2008 (UTC)
>>> Thanks for the reference, I appreciate you. This can be a serious misunderstanding. Eventually. I was been reported for vandalism with the AGE factor. I also remained silent for 1 day to judge the situation & the next outcome, after that I come to know that it rolled back & some more edit was also there.
I think there's some problem with Wikipedia's IP tracking. I have got a Contribution report of what I didn't, [ Prince Of Persia : Prodigy] have got an minor edit in it's 2nd para, regarding to the XBox 360/Xbox 360 fact, which was been corrected & reported that I have made this correction, but when It comes, I didn't. Can you please help me understand the fact? P.S. I dont use Static IP always.
Thanks, for your fast reply...

Baton Rouge Gallery

I think the article is a lot better than it was when I nominated it for deletion. It shows significant coverage in reliable sources, and shows the role of the gallery in American art history. My comment to Appletrees was merely to explain how I made the decision to nominate the article for deletion. I didn't find any information, either in the article or on the internet, that led me to believe that this was anything other than a well-meaning local cornershop art gallery. According to a discussion on the village pump (policy), Wikipedia is going to establish a new governance structure called the Sourcing Adjudication Board. I have not read the full text of the Arbitration Committee draft decision that proposes to establish this board, so I don't know whether it will be permanent or is only intended to resolve this dispute.

In any case, I think that its authority should be limited to dealing with disputes that have legal consequences, such as alleged copyright violation. 69.140.152.55 ( talk) 02:20, 22 May 2008 (UTC)

I think we'd all get a Nobel Prize if we managed that. I need to use the template on a number of articles where I've spent more time trying to understand the particular unit of measurement. I'm US born and raised but I do 'speak metric' to some extent. Question on the coordinates, which you added later. Is there an easy place to find coordinates for particular articles? I Know the template but often leave that to other since I'm not sure where to look. Thanks! TravellingCari the Busy Bee 13:27, 22 May 2008 (UTC)
Be glad to help on {{ convert}} if that will prove useful. As regards {{ coord}}, you may wish to consult Wikipedia:WikiProject_Geographical_coordinates, of which the coord is a part, in particular the section Wikipedia:WikiProject_Geographical_coordinates#How_to_obtain_geographical_coordinates. Re the latter, I must say I use Google Earth, in conjunction with its search tools or just my eyeball, to locate the place and thence the coordinates I wish to find. The question is one of independent notability. I don't know that the article would survive AfD as a standalone. I won't re-instate the re-direct but I think there are severe notability issues. What's your thought on that? I just re-factored the heading here to make it more clear. TravellingCari the Busy Bee 13:18, 16 May 2008 (UTC)
I'm not sure what you're asking. I'm just not sure where or WHAT that information is, and, at this moment, I don't have the time to search for it. -- But, I'm hoping somebody else will, which is why THAT biography needs to be left up. /// I will put it back up, any time it is removed. -- Not to be a turd, but, just to make a point. And, as soon as I get time, I hope to be able to add information to it. Thanks! -x EclecticKoolAid ( talk) 10:38, 18 May 2008 (UTC)
Might want to consider reading this as doing things to make a point is not the best way to get something accomplished. I'll leave it for the moment but it's been tagged for notability so others may well decide to re-merge it as there's no evidence (what you or I 'know' is not in line with WP:V) of notability outside the redundant town info TravellingCari the Busy Bee 23:15, 26 May 2008 (UTC)

No, it's not in regards to taking wikibreaks or anything, because that's just fine. HAU has a completely new format now, the whole thing was revamped. It now displays who is online and who isn't, uses a better looking table, links to e-mail, and contains entries on each editor's specialties (such as vandalism fighting, page protections, etc). Checkmarks are used to indicate these areas of expertise. Your entry, amongst a few others, does not yet have any checkmarks. If you could just make a quick stop at HAU and add checkmarks to the areas in which you have experience, it would make your entry there that much more helpful. Thanks. Know what you mean. He created three of them like that, so I left some suggestions. Don't ko when i'll get back to it though. Cheers, and happy editing.

You just deleted the article Artist Karaoke Series: Miley Cyrus under G4, but I don't think the tag applies. The AfD mostly revolved around it not yet being released, and so being a violation of WP:CRYSTALBALL. However, the release date was on May 20, 2008 so it shouldn't have the same failings that caused the AfD on the previous version. If you decide that it still does make G4, could you please also delete the talk page? Cheers. -- lifebaka ( Talk - Contribs) 14:18, 30 May 2008 (UTC)

It didn't look substantively different and had the same sourcing issues that were raised but I've restored it (witht he g4 in place) to let someone else make the call since you raised a valid question. At best, I think it will go back through AfD since it's not notable but I have no objection to that. Thanks for raising the question TravellingCari the Busy Bee 14:23, 30 May 2008 (UTC)
Thanks. I was kinda' in the middle of editing it when you deleted it. It's at least a little better now. Cheers. -- lifebaka ( Talk - Contribs) 14:33, 30 May 2008 (UTC)
I tend to stay away from music discussions, WP:MUSIC can be a pain to deal with and there's so much passion involved. It frightens me somewhat. I won't take it to AfD, but I don't think there's any evidence the album meets WP:ALBUM but we'll see. TravellingCari the Busy Bee 15:04, 30 May 2008 (UTC)

I've been better about that lately, but some where I !vote keep in AfD I just don't feel like working on the articles because I have zero interest in the subject and while I think the subject is notable, I don't care if they're covered or not.

Woohoo, two in one week. I am/was on a roll TravellingCari the Busy Bee 18:34, 6 May 2008 (UTC)

Congrats! I've created around 100 new museum articles this morning for Greece and Thailand. With Greece i have added external links to fairly decent sources so they should all be able to be expanded decently. I've developed Abdera Archaeological Museum, Aegean Maritime Museum , Aiane Archaeological Museum etc to begin with and will gradually try to fill out all the other greek ones. Any help in expanding would be warmly appreciated. I've tagged them all also so you don't have to worry about that ♦Blofeld of SPECTRE♦ $1,000,000? 12:49, 7 May 2008 (UTC)

Ah I'm not really bothered just playing the poor guy. But yes the idea of it is quite an ignorant one although he is quite free to state any problems he has with them to me. reports 'teh' evil Keeper to ANI and OMG! de-sysop. On the + side, I learned two new tags TravellingCari the Busy Bee 15:19, 7 May 2008 (UTC)
Yeah, I'm a big fan of dubious. What an ugly word, with bad faith assumptions built right in! Just saw Wizardman's posts above. Take his offer, get your RfA going. You don't need coaching, you've got the stuff. Wizardman was my co-nom, popped up on my page "out of the blue". When he says you're ready, he means it. Look at his noms, they are all terrific dubious . Keeper | 76 | Disclaimer 15:25, 7 May 2008 (UTC)
I also got an e-mail from someone else, offering to support/nom which was a vote of confidence as I saw this person (not naming since there may have been a reason for sending the email rather than posting) as a potential !oppose. Got a few tips and I'm aiming for June 1 since I'm going to be away and possibly packing/moving the last week in May and know I need to be available during an RfA for questions. I plan to make a post for the three interested parties to address any last minute issues and then hope for the best. I knew fact, used that one on a couple of occasions -- vn is much shorter. Clearer. I doubt I'd use dubious for some of the reasons you said -- it just doesn't sound nice. TravellingCari the Busy Bee 15:32, 7 May 2008 (UTC)

<aaaaannnd...outdent>Back to adminning. When you're ready, be absolutely sure to get Wizardman to nom - Take a look here. It is a high honor, and almost always a successful turn, to be noticed by the Wiz. As for "Old Man Fav-rah", I'm pretty sure he'll be playing at Lambeau by game 3. Call me a prophet, or a quack, or just plain intelligent, but there's no way he's retired. He'll be out there with a tennis-balled walker, and the cheese-covered fans will still lick him. I mean like him. Keeper | 76 | Disclaimer 16:58, 7 May 2008 (UTC)

Speedy of Burnsifarian

I see that you brought it to AFD, which is appropriate if you believe it should be deleted but don't think it meets a speedy deletion criterion. I agree that it doesn't fit G1 (nonsense); but, I do think it falls under G3 as "blatant and obvious misinformation". It is also addressed by Wikipedia is not for something made up. I'll leave the speedy tag and let continued discussion continue rather than deleting it. — ERcheck ( talk) 04:37, 8 May 2008 (UTC)

Clean-up tag?

I realise there were issues at the start of the AfD but I'd like to know what still needs clean-up so I can address it. Thanks! TravellingCari the Busy Bee 13:42, 9 May 2008 (UTC)

Going for it....

TravellingCari the Busy Bee 19:56, 14 May 2008 (UTC)

If two's enough, I'll transclude as soon as I see Wiz's co-nom. Let me know. Keeper | 76 | Disclaimer 20:14, 14 May 2008 (UTC)
I haven't had any interaction with Rudget since the original discussion and I know he's been fiarly busy of late so I don't want to bother him unnecessarily or worry !voters. I'm happy to go with you two -- I want to give the e-mailer a chance to respond either way and that will be final -- either you and Wizard or you three. Thanks, both of you! TravellingCari the Busy Bee 20:17, 14 May 2008 (UTC)
Ok, sounds good. Your immediate homework is to look at some RfAs from the last couple of weeks both successful, and unsuccessful. Get to know the pitfalls (like responding to every oppose=bad, etc). Once I see Wiz's nom, if you haven't heard from the emailer, let me know, I'll transclude for you. Cheers, Keeper | 76 | Disclaimer 20:25, 14 May 2008 (UTC)
Will print for the commute home to read and review. I've been reading them somewhat regularly in the last couple of months. I know about responding to every oppose/getting defensive is bad, canvassing is bad, learning from the experience is good. I've seen some other issues pop up but I don't think I have too many skeletons. Hope not. Que sera sera, I hope. TravellingCari the Busy Bee 20:39, 14 May 2008 (UTC)
I'd be glad to co-nom, but two is enough. People using more have been criticised for it. DGG ( talk) 23:37, 14 May 2008 (UTC)
As I said when we first e-mailed, I really appreciate the !vote of confidence and am glad to have your support regardless of who is co-nom. Will let you three discuss, that's why I made this post. Back to apartment hunting for the eventual move TravellingCari the Busy Bee 00:43, 15 May 2008 (UTC)
My co-nom's up, so transclude when you're ready. Wizardman 01:39, 15 May 2008 (UTC)

On a different note, can you please come and visit WP:AFD/Instant-runoff voting controversies (2nd nomination)?

NYC Meetup: June 1, 2008

New York City Meetup

Next: Sunday June 1st, Columbia University area
Last: 3/16/2008
This box: view   talk

In the afternoon, we will hold a session dedicated to meta:Wikimedia New York City activities, elect a board of directors, and hold salon-style group discussions on Wikipedia and the other Wikimedia projects (see the last meeting's minutes).

We'll also review our recent Wikipedia Takes Manhattan event, and make preparations for our exciting successor Wiki Week bonanza, being planned with Columbia University students for September or October.

In the evening, we'll share dinner and chat at a local restaurant, and (weather permitting) hold a late-night astronomy event at Columbia's telescopes.

You can add or remove your name from the New York City Meetups invite list at Wikipedia:Meetup/NYC/Invite list.

Also, check out our regional US Wikimedia chapters blog Wiki Northeast (and we're open to guest posts).

What a great article! I didn't know there was a term for it. My wife and I, as part of our honeymoon, "set-jetted" to Lake Winnipesaukeeas an homage to our mutual admiration of What About Bob?. And in keeping with the Bill Murray theme, we also visited Punxsutawney, Pennsylvania, you know, from Groundhog's Day... Keeper | 76 | Disclaimer 22:20, 20 May 2008 (UTC)

Baby steps...baby steps.... I ♥ What About Bob, a very cool honeymoon, Keeper. A friend of mine was married in northern New Hampshire and I was drove north on Spaulding Turnpike I saw the signs and squee'ed. Love the movie. This article was moved from "Bluff Point Lighthouse" to fit the convention for US lighthouses. Mangoe ( talk) 21:54, 20 May 2008 (UTC)

Yes, the name is definitely a problem. We've usually gone with the main USCG name, but in this case it seems wise to make an exception. Mangoe ( talk) 10:50, 21 May 2008 (UTC)
I put in the redirect just on principle. Mangoe ( talk) 14:22, 21 May 2008 (UTC)

I don't think you have to take it to DRV. That's only for deletins that one disagrees with. There's no real disagreement about the closer's rationle for deletion. When you finish the article just put it back into the mainspace and note on the talk page that its significantly differnt then the deleted article so that the repost-speedy doesn't apply. -- brew crewer (yada, yada) 15:50, 21 May 2008 (UTC)

Convert Template

Regarding... Thanks for the comments. Yes, I find {{ convert}} really helpful! And in the short eight months since I have begun to use it, more and more categories (area, volume, etc.) and more and more units seem to be available for conversion. Now if they could only figure out a way to convert matter into energy perfectly without producing carbon ... ;-) -- papageno ( talk) 05:23, 22 May 2008 (UTC)

Again, would be glad to offer any advice from my addled brain that might prove helpful. Thanks! -- papageno ( talk) 19:07, 22 May 2008 (UTC)

there are times that the MOS needs to go out the window, this is one of them. I said in one museum article talk...MOS loses to the real world at times. Life doesn't fit in a style guideline. I link to it on my own page, and, it is in a much different context than the city. -- The point is, content -can- be added... If it is removed as a reference (given that most indigenous historical figures have limited information and interest to begin with), then nobody will ATTEMPT to fill in any blanks. -- Does that make sense? The question is one of independent notability. I don't know that the article would survive AfD as a standalone. I won't re-instate the re-direct but I think there are severe notability issues. What's your thought on that? I just re-factored the heading here to make it more clear. TravellingCari the Busy Bee 13:18, 16 May 2008 (UTC)
I'm not sure what you're asking. I'm never really on Wikipedia, at least the editing side, as I don't have time, but I use it as a reference. -- I lived within a few miles of Tokeland, WA, actually, and, -I- am interesting in finding more information about the man, which was actually why I looked up the Wikipedia in the first place. -- He is a notable character, and there IS more information, it deserves to be there...

Thanks. Right now I've graduated to 'easy' CSDs - actually when I saw the new message alert I was worried it was someone questioning a decision I'd made. Whew! :) TravellingCari the Busy Bee 01:47, 28 May 2008 (UTC)

RfA thank you spam

Hi there - thank you for supporting me in my RfA, which passed 69/10/3 yesterday. I will put the tools to good use and hopefully justify the confidence you had in me. Best wishes Fritzpoll ( talk) 11:51, 28 May 2008 (UTC)

  • chuckle* the best? Look at April, the entire archive is 56K, May is 65 and there's another 33 unarchived here. Mostly my discussion takes place off my own talk, including this one. Nerves at work but it worked out in the end. TravellingCari the Busy Bee 15:35, 28 May 2008 (UTC)

Museum at Bethel Woods

Updated DYK query On 29 May, 2008, Did you know? was updated with a fact from the article Museum at Bethel Woods, which you created or substantially expanded. If you know of another interesting fact from a recently created article, then please suggest it on the Did you know? talk page.

Death's Angel revisited

Hello. This seems to be about a Star Trek novel. I'd like to restore and expand. Cheers, Dloh cierekim 17:56, 29 May 2008 (UTC)
