For my money, the three articles that you cited are a bit headings-heavy. Thanks most of all for the hints about how to use Wiki - I'm learning slowly. The relationship between that painting and Baglione's Sacred and Profane is faily complex, and I'll put it at more length in an edit of the article on Baglione himself. But essentially, Baglione was having a go at both Caravaggio and the painter Orazio Gentileschi, and made enemies of them both. The quarrel led to the famous libel case which saw Caravaggio imprisoned for a while. Wild days in Rome back then - I wonder if modern New York isn't very similar?

Hey Smmurphy,
Since you've been doing such nice work on the African COTF lately, I thought I might tip you off that I probably won't be that active there any more--not that I don't like the project, but my teaching has been keeping me too busy to do the research I need to for the longer articles. (I still pop on every now and again to write a stub off of List of Missing Africa Topics but that's about it for me). So the COTF is going to need somebody new to switch it over--not that it's an official position, this is wiki after all, but since I've done it the last few times I wanted to warn someone capable (such as yourself) to keep an eye on it.
Thanks for all the work you're putting in over at Black Consciousness Movement! It's exciting to see the COTF up and running again, and with such great results coming out of it... Kudos!

Hi smmurphy,
I hope you are not offended by my comments on the BCM talk page. I have been reading the article and find some of it difficult to reconcile with my recollection. Because the links seem to refer back to other wiki articles, it is cumbersome to follow the trail to where this information is coming from. This really should be a non-controversial subject, so I don't want to make waves.
But here is my difficulty.
While it is no doubt true that the term "Black Consciousness" originated with Du Bois, and found expression in the work of Marcus Garvey, and was refined by theorist such a Fanon, Césaire and Senghor, it is not clear that the BCM in South Africa was overly influenced by these people. It seems to be more localized than that, and more likely was an extention of the work of Sobukwe, more than anything else. Even though Steve Biko on several occassions quotes Césaire in his writing, it is clear from it that the developement of BCM as a Students movement was directly influenced by the reality of Student politics in South Africa, and BCM rhetoric never ascended the heights of the in-your-face 'Black is Beautiful' movement of the United States.
After reading a few articles by American Scholars, there seems to be a tendency to frame the movement relative to the parrallel movement in the States and elsewhere. I don't think the link was that strong. South Africa was extremely isolated, and news censored. Books by these intellectuals were banned, and possibly only available in select University Libraries, for restricted use. South African sources rarely mention these people at all. Except, that is, Azapo and similar remnants that relatively recently attempt to reframe the ideological basis of the Movement.
How do we deal with this? JohD 13:56, 6 January 2006 (UTC)

I have created {{ RnB-song-stub}} to sort R&B, soul music, and funk song articles. I had to do this when I saw songs like " Shout!" and " Burn (Usher song)" sorted as a hip-hop song (and summarily felt my eyes bug out of my head) :). Good work on the rest of the stub sorting, though. -- FuriousFreddy 19:23, 29 January 2006 (UTC)
Some major Berber (Kabyle) figures in the revolution include:
and, on a non-military front, the Mzabi Moufdi Zakaria who wrote the national anthem. You could start by searching for more information on them.
I'm afraid I don't know of any good general survey of Berber attitudes to the revolution, but my understanding is that the Kabyles and Chaouis (the only two large Berber communities) were both quite enthusiastic about it, and their areas' mountainous terrain was ideal for guerrilla warfare. There was some conflict between Berberist and pan-Arabist ideologies during and after the revolution, but both extremes were united around the common need to expel the French.
As for the current conflict, the two main Kabyle parties are the FFS and RCD; both are secularist, but the former has heavily criticised the government for the manner of its repression of FIS and has participated in talks with FIS, whereas the latter's only objection seems to be that the military didn't kill enough fundamentalists. It is noteworthy that FIS never made any significant progress in the most heavily Berber areas of Kabylie and the Mzab, although I don't know the story for the Chaoui areas. That's probably about all I can tell you; Berber (mainly Kabyle) beefs with the government center on issues that have little direct connection with the civil war. - Mustafaa 16:44, 19 February 2006 (UTC)

Please offer your opinion, vote, or whatever about your choice for the image to be used with the Islamic Barnstar Award at the Barnstar proposals page. Although there is consensus for the concept of an Islamic Barnstar Award, some editors would like to change the image for the award. I was just thinking you should be aware of this discussion because you have contributed to Islamic-related articles, received the Islamic Barnstar Award, or have contributed to the Islam-related Wikiprojects, etc.-- JuanMuslim 1m 16:18, 22 August 2006 (UTC)
As Femto said, I have no issue with you re-adding the link; I have no intention of removing it from that article. My "task" was to remove the spam. Sure, I don't disagree with your opinion of the links themselves. In addition to this username, he's also used User:Dr.peter, User:87.80.112.199, and a few others I think. It might take a bit of cross-referencing to track it all down. If your re-additions of the link raise any red flags with other spam-fighters let me know and I'll make a post about it at WP:WPSPAM. -- AbsolutDan (talk) 16:01, 27 August 2006 (UTC)
Thanks for the help. Looking at the links, its a lot of articles that I don't know much about and are probably being watched by a few other's, so I'm not going to try to add the link back to an article like, say, peace or Angola. I'm not sure it would belong, anyway. I was thinking that their would be articles at the pages of the individual conflicts, which I would support, as that site is one of the best for having text of agreements, etc. I've added back the link a couple places, but I'll err on the side of inaction and stop now. I recently came across your name as the first entry on the Kissi Language page history. Were you the original creator of that page?
I spent two years in Gueckedou prefecture as a Peace Corps volunteer in 1988-90 and lived there among the Kissis. It looks like you may have had some first-hand experience there as well. Would you care to share it with me?

Way cool someone wrote something about the Kissis. I've grown up in Kissidougou and come back to Switzerland (I'm Swiss) in 2003. I've been looking for something on the Kissi language and since I didn't find anything, I added some grammar stuff. That's what you corrected. My Kissi isn't very good. Anyway, thanks. Keba
I deleted the article, because as you pointed out, it was a straight copy from another website. Therefore was a copyright violation and had to be deleted from Wikipedia. -- Gogo Dodo 05:37, 15 February 2007 (UTC)

I saw you've tagged one of the photos at Abahlali baseMjondolo as unsourced/no copyright info. I've been working with the user to get these tagged, and in my talk, the user said that the photos were all his. Am I right in thinking that I shouldn't tag the pictures for the user, as I can't decide for them which license to release their work under? Also, does their claiming to be the creator of the works on my talk page change their status at all? Smmurphy( Talk) 15:09, 17 February 2007 (UTC)

Well, IMHO, it is looking good, well expanded, but a little red if you know what I mean? Tonight and tomorrow maybe, I hope to try and clean up that section a little. As far as peer review goes, I am all for it, but I would like to give the article a little longer. Cheers Ban e s 07:48, 10 December 2005 (UTC)
I'll stick to art from now on :). PiCo 21:24, 11 December 2005 (UTC)
Hi Smmurphy. Recently I've been randomly boucing around the wiki tagging articles with {{ unreferenced}} and dropping {{ unref-talk}} on people's talk pages. Until just now, I randomly ran into Mthuli ka Shezi, your article! I feel so cool. Anywho, I thought the form message would be a bit impolite. Do you have any ready references you might add to it? It would make me look cool if you did :) Happy wiki-ing --best, kevin kzollman][ talk 02:18, 12 December 2005 (UTC)
Hey Smmurphy/Archive1! Thanks for your support on my RfA. The final outcome was (57/4/3), so I am now an administrator. If you need help, have a question, or just want to chat (or if I get out of line!), please don't hesitate to let me know! Again, thanks! :D

You, my friend, are a life saver. I can no longer count the number of times I've looked for the envelope theorem on Wikipedia, only to leave disappointed. Thanks for getting this up just in time for finals -- may Wales look favorably upon you!
Lol. Nope not campaigning but spamming. :) User is clearly a sockpuppet and his contribs should be made clear on Afd. -- a.n.o.n.y.m t 23:27, 15 December 2005 (UTC)
This article is now the Collaboration of the Week! Thanks for your support. — 0918 BRIAN • 2005-12-18 21:33
Hi, I've created progress charts for WikiProject World music. Please come by and help document what we have! Hopefully, a record clearly showing where our holes in coverage lie will help move all world music articles along in the right direction. Tuf-Kat 19:06, 23 December 2005 (UTC)
You voted for Lee Smith (baseball), this week's Collaboration of the week. Please come and help it become a featured- standard article. -- King of Hearts | (talk) 22:38, 2 January 2006 (UTC)
Hello Smmurphy. Thank you for supporting my Rfa and giving a perfect meaning to the letters of s.u.p.p.o.r.t! I will try my best to be a good administrator. Please ask me if you need any help. -- a.n.o.n.y.m t 17:43, 6 January 2006 (UTC) |
I now have a few extra tabs at the top of my Wikipedia pages. Thanks for your support. Now I find out if it is fun... Banno 08:04, 14 January 2006 (UTC)

Hi Smmurphy, I wonder if you might be able to help - I'm writing an article for openDemocracy about the Wikiproject:countering systemic bias. I'd like to get some quotes from Wikipedians about why they're involved, what they're working on and some other general issues. I wonder if you'd be willing to talk to me over email? Mine is daviddariusbijan@yahoo.co.uk
Thanks,

If you as a neutral 3rd-party feel it's a useful link for that particular article, as far as I'm concerned it's no longer spam. Cheers -- AbsolutDan (talk) 01:42, 25 August 2006 (UTC)
All my best, good luck and adios, Hjalmarsson
Thanks - John —Preceding unsigned comment added by Jrharper ( talk • contribs)
Way cool someone wrote something about the Kissis. I've grown up in Kissidougou and come back to Switzerland (I'm Swiss) in 2003. I've been looking for something on the Kissi language and since I didn't find anything, I added some grammar stuff. That's what you corrected. My Kissi isn't very good. Anyway, thanks. Keba
I deleted the article, because as you pointed out, it was a straight copy from another website. Therefore was a copyright violation and had to be deleted from Wikipedia. -- Gogo Dodo 05:37, 15 February 2007 (UTC)
Hi, yes, the pictuers for the Abahlali article are all mine. i'm learning bit by but but have a long way to go. all and any help is much appreciated.

Help with tagging the pictures would be much appreciated. Thanks. Inkani.
Thanks for reverting the vandalism on my user page. =) -- Gogo Dodo 15:03, 16 February 2007 (UTC)
I couldn't find the original report on the FOP's main website. All I could find was a reference to it on the South Carolina FOP branch. It's only a few paragraphs, but I suppose it's better then nothing.

Hi, Smmurphy!
Thanks for your comments at this AfD. I saw your name there, stopped by your user page to learn more about you, and was surprised by a small grammatical error (in the orange box in the top right corner). I thought of fixing it myself, then decided that a brief message here would be more appropriate. Have a great day! ;^> DavidCBryant 13:41, 19 February 2007 (UTC) Thanks, I (hope I) found it.
