License tagging for Image:AHppl.jpg

Thanks for uploading Image:AHppl.jpg. Wikipedia gets hundreds of images uploaded every day, and in order to verify that the images can be legally used on Wikipedia, the source and copyright status must be indicated. Images need to have an image tag applied to the image description page indicating the copyright status of the image. This uniform and easy-to-understand method of indicating the license status allows potential re-users of the images to know what they are allowed to do with the images.

For more information on using images, see the following pages:

This is an automated notice by OrphanBot. If you need help on selecting a tag to use, or in adding the tag to the image description, feel free to post a message at Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. 14:05, 16 May 2006 (UTC)

Image copyright problem with Image:BalkansFront1918.gif

Thanks for uploading Image:BalkansFront1918.gif. The image has been identified as not specifying the copyright status of the image, which is required by Wikipedia's policy on images. If you don't indicate the copyright status of the image on the image's description page, using an appropriate copyright tag, it may be deleted some time in the next seven days. If you have uploaded other images, please verify that you have provided copyright information for them as well.

Ottawa-West Nepean provincial ED

Hi. The tag was put on to try to avoid having a CSD tag placed on it. CSD tags can go up less than a minute after a new page goes up. Since the article shows some election stats, a quick source from the organization in charge of running Ontario elections could easily have been added. Adding relevant categories is also something that can be done at the outset. This was an effort to help the article rather than hurt it. Hope you understand. --- Taroaldo 22:06, 29 September 2007 (UTC) reply

RE: French legislative constituencies

I do think that it a great idea to make the articles, however, they change from year to year, so maybe it would be better to organise them in groups according to their départements (this would also be handy for creating a Navigation template). Actually I thought which party you (could) favor, if any (if not secret). -- PaxEquilibrium ( talk) 09:58, 25 November 2007 (UTC) reply
I wouldn't bare myself do support DPS CG really, because they are not quite democratic and do not have clean hands, especially if we view their past (they're led by formerly Serbian nationalist people with potential criminal records). Also a party whose leader has been marked as the mafia boss of a major international criminal organization smuggling weapons, drugs (and cigarettes) as well as sex-slave trade...I'll wait the actual trial, but I think it's obvious.
The LPCG are OK enough, but my personal favorite'd be the PZP. They're the only ones with the capacity to unite Montenegro.
Sure why not? Shoot. ;) -- PaxEquilibrium ( talk) 17:59, 26 November 2007 (UTC) reply

Disputed fair use rationale for Image:UDFlogo2.png

Thanks for uploading Image:UDFlogo2.png. However, there is a concern that the rationale you have provided for using this image under "fair use" may be invalid. Please read the instructions at Wikipedia:Non-free content carefully, then go to the image description page and clarify why you think the image qualifies for fair use. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If it is determined that the image does not qualify under fair use, it will be deleted within a couple of days according to our criteria for speedy deletion. Why is Betacommandbot picking on you?

Answer is he's not. Both of those images, at the time that BCbot tagged them, did not specify precisely which article each provided fair use rationale was valid for. For example, Image:Mrp.png, at the time it was tagged by BCbot, you specified it was for use in the MRP article. Firstly this is not the article which the image is used in, secondly MRP is a disambiguation page. It appears that Melesse ( talk · contribs) has swept these two up nicely by the way so no more action is required on your behalf. Hope that makes sense. This is an automated message- you have not upset or annoyed anyone, and you do not need to respond. Image Copyright problem

Thank you for uploading Image:FranceCantonale04.png. However, it currently is missing information on its copyright status. Wikipedia takes copyright very seriously. It may be deleted soon, unless we can determine the license and the source of the image. If you know this information, then you can add a copyright tag to the image description page.

If you have any questions, please feel free to ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thanks again for your cooperation. NOTE: once you correct this, please remove the tag from the image's page. STBotI ( talk) 16:48, 17 February 2008 (UTC) reply

The source of the data for the figures before 1993 is the personnal website of Jean-Michel Boucheron, ( http://www.jmboucheron.fr/scrutins/scrutins.htm). He had the good idea to copy all the results of the polls he took part in. Unfortunately, I think he's the only one to do it...

Notability of Axis History

A tag has been placed on Axis History requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done because the article, which appears to be about a real person, organization (band, club, company, etc.), or web content, does not indicate how or why the subject is notable: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, articles that do not indicate the subject's importance or significance may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable. If this is the first page that you have created, then you should read the guide to writing your first article.

If you think that you can assert the notability of the subject, you may contest the deletion by adding {{ hangon}} to the top of the article (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the article's talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the article meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would confirm the subject's notability under Wikipedia guidelines.

For guidelines on specific types of articles, you may want to check out our criteria for biographies, for web sites, for bands, or for companies. Feel free to leave a note on my talk page if you have any questions about this. Schuym1 ( talk) 21:52, 4 January 2009 (UTC) reply

French regional politics

Hi my friend, you are always doing a great job about French politics, and especially with constituencies and regional councils: my sincere congratulations. It would be great if you do something like what I did for Politics of Italian regions (see the links) and Elections in Italian regions. We definitely need a comprehensive database about French regions and regional elections. -- Checco ( talk) 23:34, 6 February 2009 (UTC) reply

I know, also from my experience, that it's an infinite job, especially because both you and me are working all alone, but I definitely appreciate what your doing and I think that you ar one of the best editors of en.Wiki. Anyway remember that in Wikipedia there is no deadline!
I will start an article about the forthcoming Sardinian regional election only when it has occurred. There are two main candidates, Renato Soru for the left and Ugo Cappellacci for the right, plus some regionalist and independentist candidates. Cappellacci was able to form a broad coalition including some important regionalist parties, notably the Sardinian Reformers, a centrist outfit, and the Sardinian Action Party, an historical left-wing party. That was possible because Cappellacci roots are on the left. Anyway I don't know what will be the more likely outcome as there has been only a couple of opinion polls and in Italy surveys are forbidden in the last 15 days before the election. Both Soru and Cappellacci are popular, and Italian voters tend to vote differently in general and regional/local elections. Moreover in Sardinia there are several regionalist parties which could hold the balance. I guess that Cappellacci is a little bit advantaged, but I'm not sure of it! -- Checco ( talk) 08:59, 7 February 2009 (UTC) reply

I worked a little bit on categories related to politics and elections of French regions. I think you could easily follow the pattern I followed with categories, if you agree with it. I also noticed that there is both Category:Politics of Bretagne and Category:Politics of Brittany. You should probably either merge the two categories or re-order the articles included in them. For instance, Bretagne Regional Council is categorized under the Category:Politics of Brittany... Moreover several other articles are not categorized properly: see for instance Alsace Regional Council. Before doing a large amount of work, I advise you to categorize already existent articles in the proper categories. It's better to do it now than later, when there will be many more new articles! Keep up the admirable job your doing! -- Checco ( talk) 09:35, 9 February 2009 (UTC) reply

Italian geo-politics

I am too personally fascinated by electoral geography and related issues, but I'm not exactly an expert of it about Italy as I am of the United States (for instance), even if I read some specific books on the issue. Anyway I will do my best to answer to your questions. Italian voting patterns are a mix of class divide, clerical/anticlerical divide, historical traditions and "ethnic" divisions.

Central Italy (excluding Lazio, the region around Rome) has always been the most left-wing area of the country. This was a result of centuries of "Vatican domination" (remember that large areas of Emilia-Romagna, Tuscany, Umbria, Marche and Lazio were long part of the Church State). Since the 1840s Central Italy was the cradle of the progressive and secular-minded Democrats, the heirs of Mazzini, and later socialist and anarchist movements settled in these regions more than in every other part of Italy. Finally, during World War II, Emilia-Romagna and Tuscany were the places where the civil war tougher and the Italian Resistance had strong roots there. There were the basic reasons why the Italian Socialist Party and later the Italian Communist Party were strong there. This does not mean that Tuscanians or Emilians are poor or progressive: as you observed Tuscany and Emilia-Romagna are rich regions and they are not necessarily progressive. Many people in Central Italy are or have been supporters of the left because of tradition and this did not stop them to be conservative or traditionalist on many issues. In fact Emilia-Romagna and Tuscany are a strange stronghold for a communist party as they were basically rural areas. The left-wing tradition is very strong also today there, but something is changing: especially the Emilian party machine is composed of traditional voters who are interested in facts more than theory, but this is not more enough as many voters are turning to the centre-right and to Lega Nord, which is perceived as a political force strongly linked to the territories like the old Communist Party.

Italian voting patterns, like those of the United States, have long been strongly linked to tradition. After World War II, while the Communist Party was strong in Central Italy, Christian Democracy had its strongholds in Lombardy and Veneto. The Socialists were strong in some areas of Veneto, Lombardy and Piedmont. In the conservative South the heirs of the old guard (both Fascist and pre-Fascist) were better positioned. In the years Christian Democrats and Socialists moved south, losing votes in the North and gaining support in the South, where they easily became patronage parties. This changed their nature and their base. In particular Christian Democracy was a catch-all party including almost everything. At the beginning of the 1990s they were contemporaneously at their heyday in the South and in a difficult crisis in the North. Also the Communists were in difficult times. Lega Nord gained votes in the North both from Christian Democracy and the Communists.

The South has always been basically conservative and that was why the Communists were never strong there. The North, and especially the North-East, is home to another kind of conservatism: a mix of progressive Catholicism, libertarianism and regionalism. The PdL is strong both in the South and in the North-East, but I'm sure that that alliance won't last when Berlusconi will eventually quit politics. Remember also that the North-East is also the place where Lega Nord and other regionalist movements are stronger. The electoral base of the current Democratic Party is also an awkward alliance between the historical Communist tradition strong of Emilia-Romagna and Tuscany, the workers' tradition of Turin and Milan suburbs, progressive Catholics, socially liberal progressives and conservatives from the South. In large areas of the South the Democratic Party is strong because of the connection between former Communists and "left-wing DC voters" (as you called them), but remember that both groups can be actually conservative. Something similar has happened in Trentino, which is not a Souther region off course!

Rome, as most urban areas in the world, tends to be left-wing, but it is also a stronghold of the heirs of Fascism, who have popular roots in some neighbourhoods of the city and in the rural provinces of Lazio. The historical reason for this is that Fascism was a very good thing for many people in Rome and Lazio. Mussolini exalted the tradition of ancient Rome and made strong efforts in order to modernize Rome and Lazio. After 1992-1994 many conservative Christian Democrats joined National Alliance, which was the largest and most attractive party of the area. Under a plurality voting system Italy would have been divided in four large areas: the North (Forza Italia and Lega Nord), the "red regions" (Democratic Party of the Left), Lazio and parts of the South (National Alliance and former Christian Democrats), deep South (Forza Italia and Christian Democrats).

In general, let me tell you that Italian politics is more easily understandable by using American standards: we elect directly almost everything and, in some way, also the prime minister (even if the electoral law includes the heads of coalitions), we'll use more and more primaries to select candidates, politics is very regionalized, and our two big parties and Lega Nord, their organization, their ideas and their rethorics are often easily comaparable with United States parties. PdL, PD and LN are big parties all including both conservatives and progressives in their ranks, and generally a Liberal politician from the North agrees on more issues with a Northern Democrat than with a Southern Liberal. What is happening is a sort of regionalization of Italian politics, along with what many pundits call "Americanization".

I don't know anything about significant mining areas in Italy.

Sorry for my bad English, for being too long and not exhaustive as well. If there's anything I did not answer or you have more questions for me, just tell me! -- Checco ( talk) 23:03, 23 February 2009 (UTC) reply

I do have questions about Frenche electoral geography. I'm particularily interested how the clerical/anticlerical divide has divided some regions from others. What were the strongholds the Republicans (ARD, CNIP, RI, PR), the Christian Democrats (MRP, CD, CDS), the Radicals (Rad., RGR), the Socialists (SFIO, PS) and the Communists (PCF) and why? What was the basic difference beteen Republicans and Radicals as they were both secular-minded? How did the Gaullists position themselves in that five-party system? To what strongholds of the Republicans, the Christian Democratas and the Radicals do the UMP and the MoDem correspond? Thanks. -- Checco ( talk) 08:22, 24 February 2009 (UTC) reply
Ps: You're lucky that I know well Canadian politics, if not I would ask you also of Canadian electoral geography!
Thank you so much for your detailed answer and for the link to your website: it will definitely help me to find answers also to other questions. I found particularily interesting that in France SFIO was the rural party if compared to the PCF, while in Italy it was the PCI to have a strong rural base. I would like to ask you however something more:
  • what were the areas of major support for the ARD and, later, the CNIP?
  • why was southwestern France the Radical's stronghold?
  • how can Bayrou do so well in Catholic areas, including Vandeé when he is so socially liberal?
I hope that you will upload in your website the maps of the 1950s legislative elections for the CNIP and and the Radicals and that of the 1989 European Parliament election, when the PR formed a separate list from CDS/UDF led by Simone Veil. That would be verty interesting and helpful to answer to my questions. -- Checco ( talk) 11:40, 25 February 2009 (UTC) reply
Ps: I noticed that most French regionalist parties have articles with French titles. Why that exception to the general pattern? What do you think about it? Can you move those articles? In case you can ask help to Nightstallion, who (I'm sure) he is in favour of English titles when possibile. -- Checco ( talk) 11:40, 25 February 2009 (UTC) reply
Thank you for your answers and useful remarks: now I'm completely satisfied! As much as you I am very interested to see what the outcome of 2009 European election in France will be. Surely secular Veil headed the CDS list in 1989? Interesting... it would be great if you will upload maps by party for that election. Tell me if you do large updates to your website. -- Checco ( talk) 23:45, 25 February 2009 (UTC) reply

July Monarchy elections

I'm wondering on what basis you determined that the opposition in the July monarchy was a "Republican Opposition". This simply isn't true - most of the opposition were Orleanists, and there were about as many legitimists as there were Republicans - I don't think there were ever more than about 20 Republicans in the Chamber under the July Monarchy. Obviously, party distinctions in France in the 19th century are always a bit vague, but this is basically just wrong - opposing Guizot's government does not make one a republican. john k ( talk) 16:32, 1 March 2009 (UTC) reply

EU elections

The electoral law for European Parliament elections was reformed in February: a 4% threshold representing was introduced, for the rest nothing has changed and the system is very similar to the French one, even if the constituencies are fare bigger (that's the biggest problem with it, in my view). Voters can choose a party list and a maximum of three candidates from that list. The only exception to the 4% rule is for the parties representing linguisting minorities recognized by the Constitution: in practice, South Tyrolean and Valdotanian parties can be apparenteé (correct?) to bigger parties and actively concur to the election of one MEP (if one of their candidates gets a good deal of preference votes.

It will be great if you send me the maps as a previw (I will send you an empty e-mail from Wikipedia), but I have no problem in waiting until you publish them in your website too. Just feel free to do what you prefer. Thanks, anyway, and, please, ask me if there is something more you don't understan (or I did not explain clearly) about European Parliament elections in Italy. -- Checco ( talk) 20:39, 3 May 2009 (UTC) reply

Capitalization of headings

Petrovic-Njegos, thank you for all of your contributions to Wikipeida, especially on political subjects. I would like to draw one point to your attention.

The Wikipedia style for capitalizing headings is to use "sentence case" instead of "title case", e.g.,

Important things to know about this subject

not:

Important Things to Know About This Subject

This may be unfamiliar to many editors who believe that or have been taught that "title case is the right way to capitalize headings". It isn't the "right way", it is one style. Wikipedia has, for better or worse, chosen to follow a different style, i.e., capitalize the heading the same way you would capitalize any sentence:

  • capitalize the first word,
  • capitalize any proper nouns (people, places, organizations), and
  • begin all other words with lower case letters.

See WP:MSH for more information. Thank you. Regards, Ground Zero | t 22:40, 4 August 2009 (UTC) reply

Hello PN, could you update the "leadership" section in th article on the UMP? Thank you in advance!

Aggressive deletionism

I used to contribute more to wikipedia (2005 to 2010). Recently, it is apparent that quite worthy articles are targets of deletions. For example, this article which I would think would interest you, given your contributions: Les Alternatifs

Here is the French article for the topic: http://fr.wikipedia.org/wiki/Les_Alternatifs

This seems like certain persons are taking it to themselves to nullify the valid work that people have contributed. The speedy deletion method seems to pre-empt any discussion of the matter, in contrast to past conventions on such matters. Meanwhile, juvenile or fan-oriented articles, promoting pet performers seem to proliferate in wikipedia. To whom can we appeal? Dogru144 ( talk) 14:16, 9 June 2013 (UTC) reply

OrphanReferenceFixer: Help on reversion

Hi there! I check pages listed in Category:Pages with incorrect ref formatting to try to fix reference errors. Recently, you reverted my fix to Colombian Constitution of 1991.

If you did this because the references should be removed from the article, you have misunderstood the situation. Most likely, the article originally contained both <ref name="foo">...</ref> and one or more <ref name="foo"/> referring to it. Someone then removed the <ref name="foo">...</ref> but left the <ref name="foo"/>, which results in a big red error in the article. I replaced one of the remaining <ref name="foo"/> with a copy of the <ref name="foo">...</ref>; I did not re-insert the reference to where it was deleted, I just replaced one of the remaining instances. What you need to do to fix it is to make sure you remove all instances of the named reference so as to not leave any big red error.

If you reverted because I made an actual mistake, please be sure to also correct any reference errors in the page so I won't come back and make the same mistake again. Also, please post an error report at User talk:AnomieBOT so my operator can fix me! If the error is so urgent that I need to be stopped, also post a message at User:AnomieBOT/shutoff/OrphanReferenceFixer. Thanks! Referendum/plebiscite

There is no consensus on what the difference is between a referendum and a plebiscite (different countries use those terms in different ways). Referendum is the term the Wiki article is under, so that is the one used in electoral calendars. The fact that there is a difference between the two in a non-English speaking country like Colombia is rather irrelevant to the terminology in an article on English Wiki. Please do not start an edit war over the Colombian plebiscite, but just accept referendum is the term in common use.-- Batmacumba ( talk) 18:34, 9 September 2016 (UTC) reply

Well that's absolutely ridiculous - once again, Wikipedia's arbitrary rules lead to inaccuracy. The legal distinction between referendum and plebiscite is real and significant in Colombia, and as such I think that if we want to have quality and accurate content about Colombian politics, the correct legal term used in Colombia should be used to describe a Colombian event. Especially as it may lead to confusion with actual Colombian referendums, like that of 2003. As is the case for other similar events which were plebiscites under local laws - Chilean national plebiscite, 1988; Carinthian plebiscite, 1920; Australian plebiscite, 1916 (vs. Australian republic referendum, 1999). If Australian plebiscites are called plebiscites and Australian referendums are called referendums, as they should, explain why Colombia would be any different. Now, if Wikipedia cares more about arbitrary rules rather than factual accuracy, my work here is pointless.-- Petrovic-Njegos ( talk) 22:58, 9 September 2016 (UTC) reply

Latin American 10,000 Challenge invite

Hi. The Wikipedia:WikiProject Latin America/The 10,000 Challenge ‎ has recently started, based on the UK/Ireland Wikipedia:The 10,000 Challenge and Wikipedia:WikiProject Africa/The 10,000 Challenge. The idea is not to record every minor edit, but to create a momentum to motivate editors to produce good content improvements and creations and inspire people to work on more countries than they might otherwise work on. There's also the possibility of establishing smaller country or regional challenges for places like Brazil, Mexico, Peru and Argentina etc, much like Wikipedia:The 1000 Challenge (Nordic). For this to really work we need diversity and exciting content and editors from a broad range of countries regularly contributing. At some stage we hope to run some contests to benefit Latin American content, a destubathon perhaps, aimed at reducing the stub count would be a good place to start, based on the current Wikipedia:WikiProject Africa/The Africa Destubathon. If you would like to see this happening for Latin America, and see potential in this attracting more interest and editors for the country/countries you work on please sign up and being contributing to the challenge! This is a way we can target every country of Latin America, and steadily vastly improve the encyclopedia. We need numbers to make this work so consider signing up as a participant!♦ -- Ser Amantio di Nicolao Che dicono a Signa? Lo dicono a Signa. 00:48, 27 October 2016 (UTC) reply

The article Sophie Auconie has been proposed for deletion because it appears to have no references. Under Wikipedia policy, this biography of a living person will be deleted after seven days unless it has at least one reference to a reliable source that directly supports material in the article.

If you created the article, please don't be offended. Instead, consider improving the article. For help on inserting references, see Referencing for beginners, or ask at the help desk. Once you have provided at least one reliable source, you may remove the {{ prod blp/dated}} tag. Please do not remove the tag unless the article is sourced. If you cannot provide such a source within seven days, the article may be deleted, but you can request that it be undeleted when you are ready to add one.

Ottawa-West Nepean provincial ED

Hi. The tag was put on to try to avoid having a CSD tag placed on it. CSD tags can go up less than a minute after a new page goes up. Since the article shows some election stats, a quick source from the organization in charge of running Ontario elections could easily have been added. Adding relevant categories is also something that can be done at the outset. This was an effort to help the article rather than hurt it. Hope you understand. --- Taroaldo 22:06, 29 September 2007 (UTC) reply

PCF not far left? I understand your concers, but I observe that in the template history you are the onlyone supporting the idea that PCF is not far left... -- Checco ( talk) 06:51, 11 June 2008 (UTC) reply
Also LCR and LO will be parliamentary parties if they would and I sincerely disagree with your arguments, but, anyway, the template is not the kind of thing I'm personally so interested in. -- Checco ( talk) 11:01, 11 June 2008 (UTC) reply
My point is that we'd better replace "far left" with "extra-parliamentary left", but I understand that the current solution is simpler. Take care. -- Checco ( talk) 11:04, 11 June 2008 (UTC) reply

French legislative constituencies

Thanks for helping out on the Ille-et-Vilaine constituencies. I really appreciate it, it's a great help.

I also like your idea of just runoff results too- much easier and simpler. Better style ;). I'll probably do that from now. Also, thanks for using the templates and so forth. It's great that you do that!

I hope you can continue creating some pages for the elections!

But may I ask your sources for results? I've only been able to go back to 1988 using the internets for data!

Thanks.

Hello
As we are in an english-speaking project, I think it's nicer to write in English.

French liberal parties

Dear Petrovic-Njegos, there is an article which definitely needs your work, if you have time and will: liberalism and radicalism in France. As I saw in many articles about French elections, there are more "liberal" parties which should be cited in that article.

You are now a Reviewer

Hello. Your account has been granted the "reviewer" userright, allowing you to review other users' edits on certain flagged pages. Pending changes, also known as flagged protection, will be commencing a two-month trial at approximately 23:00, 2010 June 15 (UTC).

Reviewers can review edits made by users who are not autoconfirmed to articles placed under flagged protection. Flagged protection is applied to only a small number of articles, similarly to how semi-protection is applied but in a more controlled way for the trial.

When reviewing, edits should be accepted if they are not obvious vandalism or BLP violations, and not clearly problematic in light of the reason given for protection (see Wikipedia:Reviewing process). More detailed documentation and guidelines can be found here.

If you do not want this userright, you may ask any administrator to remove it for you at any time. Courcelles ( talk) 23:32, 15 June 2010 (UTC) reply
