Can you check and see if the Interview with Yuji Horii mentions anything about the MSX version of Dragon Quest as per the quote it seems to talk about its origins. Jinnai 21:47, 2 October 2009 (UTC) reply

The MSX is never mentioned by name. He makes some references to making the first Dragon Quest, but not anything MSX-specific. Pagra shtak 13:38, 9 October 2009 (UTC) reply

Fair to use Google street view screenshots on Wikipedia?

Could I take a screenshot or a photo of my screen of a street view image and use it on Wikipeida??? MANY useful article pictures could be made this way... Daniel Christensen ( talk) 03:25, 19 October 2009 (UTC) reply

No, take a look down in the corner of the street view image. I bet it says copyright Google. Pagra shtak 22:37, 19 October 2009 (UTC) reply
I don't believe you can copyright anything in the public view like that. See a similar issue with Controversy over the usage of Manchester Cathedral in Resistance: Fall of Man (not the controversy of using place based in real life, the legal issues in using a real-life location). Jinnai 23:32, 19 October 2009 (UTC) reply
Google still owns the copyright to the image, though. It's definitely not a free image to use. Der Wohltemperierte Fuchs( talk) 00:53, 20 October 2009 (UTC) reply
Well shit; and what's all this Flickr upload bot stuff; if all Flickr images were good to use on Wikipeida there would be SO MANY more good pictures. SO many. I hear most are; what's being waited for? Daniel Christensen ( talk) 20:02, 21 October 2009 (UTC) reply
The only Flickr images that are allowable for Commons are the Creative Commons images licensed as CC-BY and CC-BY-SA. We can't do noncommercial or noderiv clauses, which cuts out a fair amount of possible free images. Der Wohltemperierte Fuchs( talk) 20:47, 21 October 2009 (UTC) reply

Alt text for Zelda article

That alt text looks great. Thanks for helping to make Wikipedia more accessible. One little tip: it's better to put the alt text before the caption in the Wiki markup, as that's the order the text is displayed to visually impaired readers, and using the same order makes it easier to put oneself in their shoes. Wikipedia to Flickr

Aren't most all images on Wikipedia free and under public domain or similar so they could be uploaded to flickr? Daniel Christensen ( talk) 18:37, 22 October 2009 (UTC) reply

Careful—not ALL images. Things like box art or screenshots are typically used in Wikipedia under fair use. I don't use Flickr, but I'm reasonably sure they won't allow that. As for other images, I'll recommend that you check with Flickr, as I don't want to misinform you. Pagra shtak 04:45, 23 October 2009 (UTC) reply

AfD nomination of Niko Bellic

An editor has nominated one or more articles which you have created or worked on, for deletion. The nominated article is Niko Bellic. We appreciate your contributions, but the nominator doesn't believe that the article satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion and has explained why in his/her nomination (see also Wikipedia:Notability and " What Wikipedia is not").

Your opinions on whether the article meets inclusion criteria and what should be done with the article are welcome; please participate in the discussion(s) by adding your comments to Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Niko Bellic. Please be sure to sign your comments with four tildes (~~~~).

You may also edit the article during the discussion to improve it but should not remove the articles for deletion template from the top of the article; such removal will not end the deletion debate.

Please note: This is an automatic notification by a bot. I have nothing to do with this article or the deletion nomination, and can't do anything about it. -- Erwin85Bot ( talk) 01:10, 5 January 2010 (UTC) reply

Help

Look at my talk page; User:Fastily is storming me and deleting stuff and nominating all my own images for deletion. Daniel Christensen ( talk) 04:24, 5 February 2010 (UTC) reply

If he's doing it unfairly, there are places to report that. From a brief glance, I suspect that he's probably correct. Image licensing trips up new and seasoned editors alike. I know it seems strange that "I give you permission to use this on Wikipedia" is not sufficient, but we intend for our content to be reusable, which means that you would need permission beyond that. Reference Library request

Hi Pagrashtak. I notice that you've listed yourself as owning most of the Nintendo Power magazines at the WP:VG Reference Library. I also notice that you've been very active with the Zelda series articles. I have a question which I'll let you decide how deeply you want to get into it.

I have heard that there is an issue of NP that describes how to get into the Top Secret "Chris Houlihan" Room in The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past. I have no more information about this article, sadly, than that it was in Nintendo Power. I'm not sure if it was on the topic of ALttP or on the topic of hints and cheats or what. If you are busy then would you mind just telling me if you remember having seen such a thing as well? If you want to get into it more deeply then I'd be extremely grateful to know which volume and/or date this article was featured in. This is kind of a frivolous request so I hope you don't mind. I understand if you don't want to go through however many issues searching for this. Thanks in advance either way. - Thibbs ( talk) 03:40, 11 March 2010 (UTC) reply

Per wp:CANVASSING, this is a neutrally worded notice being sent, without any type of "selection" bias, to everyone that edited fairly recently the MOS page about how to term the Latter Day Saints denominations on Wikipedia in the belief that your various and collective expertise or expertises, if that's a plural, can help us improve its wording, if possible. a bit. The most pertinent section is here. And the issue is to what degree the terms "Mormon church" and "LDS church" relate to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, in specific, and to what kind of sourcing should be used to document this. Main page appearance: The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker

This is a note to let the main editors of The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker know that the article will be appearing as today's featured article on November 26, 2011. You can view the TFA blurb at Wikipedia:Today's featured article/November 26, 2011. If you prefer that the article appear as TFA on a different date, or not at all, please ask featured article director Raul654 ( talk · contribs) or his delegate Dabomb87 ( talk · contribs), or start a discussion at Wikipedia talk:Today's featured article/requests. If the previous blurb needs tweaking, you might change it—following the instructions at Wikipedia:Today's featured article/requests/instructions. If this article needs any attention or maintenance, it would be preferable if that could be done before its appearance on the Main Page. The blurb as it stands now is below:

The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker is an action-adventure game and the tenth installment in The Legend of Zelda series. It was released for the Nintendo GameCube in Japan on December 13, 2002, and released in North America, Europe, and Australia over the following five months. The player controls Link, the protagonist of the Zelda series, as he struggles against his nemesis, Ganondorf, for control of a sacred relic known as the Triforce. Link spends a large portion of the game sailing, traveling between islands, and traversing through dungeons and temples to gain the power necessary to defeat Ganondorf. A heavy emphasis is placed on using and controlling wind with a baton called the Wind Waker, which aids sailing and floating in air. The Wind Waker follows in the footsteps of two of its predecessors, Ocarina of Time and Majora's Mask, retaining the basic gameplay and control system from the two Nintendo 64 titles. Though controversial during development for its use of cel shading graphics and the younger Link character, The Wind Waker was still one of the Nintendo GameCube's most successful games. ( more...)

Invitation to take part in Wikipedia research

Hello,

I am doing research on Wikipedia in multiple languages to see how different Wikipedia websites enable people differently to act and contribute in their ways. A brief description of the study can be found on our project page on Meta-Wiki. The results would give guidelines for further development of Wikipedia in less developed languages.

As an active member of Wikipedia community, you are invited to take part in the study and share your experience about and understanding of Wikipedia with us. It would take 30 to 60 minutes of your time to have an online conversation about Wikipedia. I would be delighted to hear any of your ideas or feedback about the study. Notification of pending suspension of administrative permissions due to inactivity

Following a community discussion in June 2011, consensus was reached to provisionally suspend the administrative permissions of users who have been inactive for one year (i.e. administrators who have not made any edits or logged actions in over one year). As a result of this discussion, your administrative permissions will be removed pending your return if you do not return to activity within the next month. If you wish to have these permissions reinstated should this occur, please post to the Wikipedia:Bureaucrats' noticeboard and the userright will be restored per the re-sysopping process (i.e., as long as the attending bureaucrats are reasonably satisfied that your account has not been compromised and that your inactivity did not have the effect of evading scrutiny of any actions which might have led to sanctions). This removal of access is procedural only, and not intended to reflect negatively upon you in any way. We wish you the best in future endeavors, and thank you for your past administrative efforts. Hello Pagrashtak, I see that you have listed yourself as a contact at the WP:VG Reference Library for Nintendo Power magazines and I was wondering if you could possibly provide me with a scan of:

  • The article on Gauntlet (from Nintendo Power, Issue 1, July/August 1988),
  • The article on Galaga (from Nintendo Power, Issue 2, September/October 1988), and
  • The article on Road Blasters (from Nintendo Power, Issue 10, January/February 1990).

It looks like you haven't been active in a couple of months so I will also be contacting a few other editors to try to get this information and I will write back here again if I manage to locate any of these sources. If you don't hear from me, though, then I would still be interested in obtaining a copy of the requested article either as a scan or as text or in summary form or whatever you can provide. Sorry for the long delay. I'm afraid there's not too much to the two you still need—it's a stretch to call them "articles". No author information on the following.
From Volume 2, p. 84 in a section called "Video Shorts" that runs pp. 78–84, under the title "Galaga": "Now relive arcade memories on your NES! Your lone fighter spaceship is all that stands between your home planet and the insect-shaped aliens, the infamous and awesome Galaga. One of video gaming's toughest, the best precision flying squadrons in the galaxy have just invaded your world. Every third assault is a Challenging Stage where you can earn bonus points and an indicator will even show a hit ratio (the number of Galaga destroyed, the number of missiles fired, and the percentage number of Galaga hit)." A screenshot has the caption, "If the Galaga Commander captures a ship, shoot him and double your firepower."
From Volume 10, p. 83, in a section called "Video Shorts" that runs pp. 82–85, under the title "Road Blasters": "Another arcade hit comes to the NES. This futuristic fight to the finish line is full of obstacles. Fire up your jet-powered racer and scream to the goal. Watch your fuel supply and steer toward Fuel Globes for more power. On your way through Bubble City, the Forest Section, the Desert Region, and beyond you'll encounter enemy vehicles. Take them out with accuracy and you'll gain special bonuses for points and extra fuel." Screenshot captions: "Go for the Fuel Globes!", "Special Weapons like Nitro Inject add power.", "Many enemies await." Pagra shtak 22:08, 23 October 2012 (UTC) reply

Quick question

Hi Pagrashtak,
WP:VG's Newsletter department is looking for editors to interview for our Featured Editor column, and your name has come up in discussions during previous quarters as a likely candidate. From your edit history it is apparent that you are not currently as active an editor as you once were, and it's completely understandable if you don't have the time to be interviewed any more. But if possible, we'd love to hear your story from you.
The interview consists of some 15 questions that you can answer however you like and which you can tinker with up until the newsletter is published. Our hope is to have a small number of interviewees cued up for upcoming Featured Editor columns so your interview would most likely appear in a future issue. You can review previous interview questions here to get a sense of the kinds of questions you would be asked. If you see this note, please let me know at my talk page if you would be willing to answer some questions for the Newsletter. Thanks! - Thibbs ( talk) 14:03, 17 July 2014 (UTC) reply

Extended confirmed protection

Hello, Pagrashtak. This message is intended to notify administrators of important changes to the protection policy.

Extended confirmed protection (also known as "30/500 protection") is a new level of page protection that only allows edits from accounts at least 30 days old and with 500 edits. The automatically assigned "extended confirmed" user right was created for this purpose. The protection level was created following this community discussion with the primary intention of enforcing various arbitration remedies that prohibited editors under the "30 days/500 edits" threshold to edit certain topic areas.

In July and August 2016, a request for comment established consensus for community use of the new protection level. Administrators are authorized to apply extended confirmed protection to combat any form of disruption (e.g. vandalism, sock puppetry, edit warring, etc.) on any topic, subject to the following conditions:

  • Extended confirmed protection may only be used in cases where semi-protection has proven ineffective. It should not be used as a first resort.
  • A bot will post a notification at Wikipedia:Administrators' noticeboard of each use. MusikBot currently does this by updating a report, which is transcluded onto the noticeboard.

Please review the protection policy carefully before using this new level of protection on pages. Thank you.
This message was sent to the administrators' mass message list. To opt-out of future messages, please remove yourself from the list. 17:49, 23 September 2016 (UTC)

Hi Pagrashtak, are you still taking scan requests? I'm looking for Nintendo Power #181 (July 2004), the review of Sabre Wulf. A good chance it's on p. 120. czar 06:41, 20 April 2017 (UTC) reply

Request for excerpt of Nintendo Power, Apr. 2005 issue

Hello there Pagrashtak,

I realized you've become inactive and might not see this but just in case you do go on Wikipedia any time soon:

I was wondering if I could get my hands on the April 2005 issue of Nintendo Power, specifically its WarioWare: Touched! review? I'm trying to improve the article and you are listed as the contact for that specific issue on this page. The excerpt would help broaden the reception section as well as provide some references.

Please ping me if you read this. Thanks~

( more...)

  • The article on Road Blasters (from Nintendo Power, Issue 10, January/February 1990).

It looks like you haven't been active in a couple of months so I will also be contacting a few other editors to try to get this information and I will write back here again if I manage to locate any of these sources.

Notification of pending suspension of administrative permissions due to inactivity

Information icon Following a community discussion in June 2011, consensus was reached to provisionally suspend the administrative permissions of users who have been inactive for one year (i.e. administrators who have not made any edits or logged actions in more than one year). As a result of this discussion, your administrative permissions will be removed pending your return if you do not return to activity within the next month. If you wish to have these permissions reinstated should this occur, please post to the Wikipedia:Bureaucrats' noticeboard and the userright will be restored per the re-sysopping process (i.e. as long as the attending bureaucrats are reasonably satisfied that your account has not been compromised, that your inactivity did not have the effect of evading scrutiny of any actions which might have led to sanctions, and that you have not been inactive for a three-year period of time). If you remain inactive for a three-year period of time, including the present year you have been inactive, you will need to request reinstatement at WP:RFA. This removal of access is procedural only, and not intended to reflect negatively upon you in any way. We wish you the best in future endeavors, and thank you for your past administrative efforts. Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page.

Thanks~
