As of today I am getting a bar for about every 15 days instead of each individual day eg https://tools.wmflabs.org/pageviews/?project=en.wikipedia.org&platform=all-access&agent=user&range=latest-20&pages=Social_undermining -- Penbat ( talk) 09:30, 13 January 2017 (UTC)
TBH it looks a serious mess. I have many links to Pageviews analysis from User:Penbat all giving a 20 day view. 20 day view is the default. It is the previous days usage that is of most interest to me and I check some every day. I would never use the zoom view and I suspect only a few percent of users ever would. It is more of a gimmick than useful functionality. It seems wrong to make it look messy for everyone just to add a feature that only a few users would ever use. One point tho is just what is the point of, say, "20/01/2017", why not "20/01/17" to save space ? -- Penbat ( talk) 09:44, 14 January 2017 (UTC)

Hey MusikAnimal, you're the techiest admin I know so I was hoping you could help me figure this out - any clue why my talk page archive only shows 1 archive when I have 5? For some reason it hasn't been updating (although the archiving bot is working), and I wasn't sure if it was a setting or what could cause that. Thanks in advance! Hi, I just reverted MusikBot's move of Yona Knight-Wisdom to Draft:Yona Knight-Wisdom, as part of the SvG cleanup. The reason was that almost all of the article was written by myself, as I expanded it for a DYK, during which I verified the existing content from SvG's stub creation. Just wanted to check, this isn't going to cause any problems with the bot, is it? I don't want the bot to think it hasn't moved that page. Joseph 2302 ( talk) 22:35, 24 January 2017 (UTC)

Sorry to bother you again - but I figured I would ask you if I placed this in the right location - and also I wasn't sure if in your time on Wiki you have ever seen this proposed before. Also, since it just came to me right now - do you know why it is not possible to watch someone's user page without it automatically watching their talk page as well? I tried to watch Jimbo Wales user page (not talk page) but could not do so without it watching both (and you can't unwatch the talk page without it unwatching the user page). Usually not an issue - but with someone like Jimbo who has so many edits I didn't really want to watch the talk page as well :) Thanks for any advice! Garchy ( talk) 14:40, 25 January 2017 (UTC)

Hey MusikAnimal. I wanted to use the pageviews tool to see the history of the 2017 Women's March article, but it was moved from its old title 2017 Women's March on Washington. The pageviews tool currently only seems to let you see views for pages that exist (including not being redirects), so as far as I can tell, the pageviews from the old page name are now lost. Is there any way I could see that old page name data, and more broadly, is there a reason not to show pageviews for articles that are now redirects (but may not have been in the past) or pages that don't exist? Sam Walton ( talk) 13:09, 26 January 2017 (UTC)
You need to stop your bot. It s moving toms of cyclist articles to draft space. They are fine and are important pages. You are hurting Wikipedia by doing this.-- Seacactus 13 ( talk) 00:31, 27 January 2017 (UTC)
I know it's not your responsibility, but as I don;t know how to do it, It would be great if you could get around to extending the helper script for New Page Reviewer to include adding the editors user page to the list at Wikipedia:New pages patrol/Reviewers/Newsletter list. Other admins don't use the script at all and I find it tedious not only doing these things manually for myself, but for everyone else too ! Kudpung กุดผึ้ง ( talk) 01:36, 23 January 2017 (UTC)
Hi MusikAnimal, I notice the MusikBot stale drafts report didn't run last week as normal. At this time when drafts and their deletion are under active discussion it may be good for this report to be kept up to date, if reasonably possible. Could you investigate please? Hi, MusikAnimal. Long-term sockmaster Kingshowman is currently on a tear, using anonymous accounts to vandalize unprotected Donald Trump articles. A couple of the socks were regular IPs and have been rangeblocked for 2 weeks. But several are IPv6s; would a rangeblock be possible for them also? I have blocked the following accounts which have been active in the past few hours: User:2600:1017:b401:833e:6d85:6065:6269:b1d1, User:2600:1017:B401:833E:A412:FCD2:24A6:F5AB, and User:2600:1017:B426:AE2C:24D1:FDAB:18D0:1B37 You can see their activity at Social policy of Donald Trump, Foreign policy of Donald Trump, and multiple other articles. I realize that IPv6's can be tricky and sometimes impossible to rangeblock, but thanks for looking into this. -- MelanieN ( talk) 18:55, 27 January 2017 (UTC)

Hey MA!
I was trying to figure out how many pages in the category "Living People" did not have the {{BLP}} tag, so I could add that to them. The thing is, I don't want to manually search through 1,088,231 articles to find which ones have it or don't have it. I'm working on an SQL query to find those pages on Quarry, but I seem to be messing something up. Here is the code I'm using:
SELECT
page_title
FROM page
JOIN templatelinks
ON tl_from = page_id
JOIN categorylinks
ON cl_from = page_id
WHERE cl_to = "Living_people"
AND tl_namespace = 10
AND page_namespace = 0
NOT "{{BLP}}"
LIMIT 500;
It gives me an error on line 11. I don't get what the problem is. You seem to know a lot about SQL queries, so maybe you could point me in the right direction? Thanks!

Hello, GA Cup competitors! Sunday saw the end of Round 2. Shearonink took out Round 2 with an amazing score of 499. In second place, Krishna Chaitanya Velaga earned an astounding 236 points, and in third place, Cartoon network freak received 136 points. Originally, we had plans for one wild card for 9th place, however it appears that both Chris troutman and J Milburn were tied for 9th place. Therefore, we have decided to have both advance to Round 3. In Round 2, 91 reviews were completed! At the beginning of this GA Cup, the longest wait was over 7 months; at the end of Round 2, the longest wait had decreased to a little over 6 months. It's clear that we continue to make a difference at GAN and throughout Wikipedia, something we should all be proud of. Thanks to all our competitors for helping to make the GA Cup a continued success, and for your part in helping other editors improve articles. We hope to see all remaining users fighting it out in Round 3 so we can keep decreasing the backlog. To qualify for the third round, contestants had to earn the two highest scores in each of the four pools in Round 2; plus, one wildcard. For Round 3, users were placed in 3 random pools of 3. To qualify for the Final of the 3rd Annual GA Cup, the top user in each pool will progress, and there will also be one wildcard. This means that the participant who comes in 4th place (all pools combined) will also move on. Round 3 has already started and will end on February 26 at 23:59:59 UTC. Information about Round 3 and the pools can be found here. Also, we'd like to announce the departure of judge Zwerg Nase. We thank him for all his hardwork and hope to see him back in the future. Good luck and have fun! Cheers from Figureskatingfan, 3family6, Jaguar, and MrWooHoo. To subscribe or unsubscribe to future GA Cup newsletter, please add or remove your name to
our mailing list. If you are a participant still competing, you will be on the mailing list no matter what as this is the easiest way to communicate between all participants.

I'm trying to stave off ACTRIAL being unilaterally rolled out by the community. While I think it would be an extremely good idea, it would lose any credibility I have built up with the WMF. What we need is a table of New Page Revievers showing: 1)user name, 2)date of 'promotion' 3) number of Curations, 4) date of last curation, 5) date of last edit.
Is this something you could quarry for me fairly quickly? I'm sorry I have to ask, but as you know, I dont have a clue about regex, SQL, or data mining - and I'm genuinely to old to learn. Kudpung กุดผึ้ง ( talk) 01:05, 1 February 2017 (UTC)
Hey, thanks again for the offer there. I'm also the primary maintainer of Wikipedia:Former administrators, which can be far more work than the desysoppings by month list, and I've been mulling over how a bot could help there. Perhaps the most tedious part of maintaining that list – and one that is amenable to automation – is distinguishing between regular inactive and long-term inactive users at Wikipedia:Former administrators/reason/inactive, Wikipedia:Former administrators/reason/resigned, and Wikipedia:Former administrators/reason/for cause. A bot designed for this task would ideally need admin access so it could view deleted contributions, but you already have MusikBot II that has these userrights. There are other tasks that could be automated, I guess ... the rolling list on the former admins main page, the list at Wikipedia:Former administrators/full, and the list of resysopped users, but these aren't so bad. Thanks again for your offer to help out, and the chance to make these suggestions. Graham 87 05:01, 31 January 2017 (UTC)
Stats Table required, so 'ere it is again (no one appears to be watching the page you recommended)
I'm looking for ways to get the huge and still increasing backlog at Special:NewPagesFeed reduced. In November I poineered the rollout of the New Page Reviewer right. After three months I now need to know how it is performing and what the next steps will be. To do this I need the following data in sortable Wikitable form of New Page Reviewers showing:
There are currently around 300 or so non-admin Reviewers in this user group, all the rest are admins (who besides myself, are unlikely to be patrolling new pages with the Curation tool. Is this something someone could quarry for me fairly quickly? I'm sorry I have to ask, but I don't have a clue about regex, SQL, or data mining - but once it's been done once and I know how, I could repeat the operation when I need it again. Thanks, Kudpung กุดผึ้ง ( talk) 22:45, 4 February 2017 (UTC)
We now have 811 New Page Reviewers!
Most of us requested the user right at
PERM, expressing a wish to be able to do something about the huge backlog, but the chart on the right does not demonstrate any changes to the pre-user-right levels of October.
The backlog is still steadily growing at a rate of 150 a day or 4,650 a month. Only 20 reviews a day by each reviewer over the next few days would bring the backlog down to a managable level and the daily input can then be processed by each reviewer doing only 2 or 3 reviews a day - that's about 5 minutes work!
It didn't work in time to relax for the Xmas/New Year holidays. Let's see if we can achieve our goal before Easter, otherwise by Thanksgiving it will be closer to 70,000.
Remember that we are the only guardians of quality of new articles, we alone have to ensure that pages are being correctly tagged by non-Reviewer patrollers and that new authors are not being bitten.
This is even more important and extra vigilance is required considering Orangemoody, and
Kudpung is stepping down after 6 years as unofficial coordinator of New Page Patrolling/Reviewing. There is enough work for two people and two coords are now required. Details are at NPR Coordinators; nominate someone or nominate yourself. Date for the actual suffrage will be published later.

Hi MusikAnimal! I've been following the 777 edit filter trying to track some long term abuse by a vandal (see User:EvergreenFir/socks#Present). It seems today it was made private. I was wondering if you could share why. The filter was altered right around the same time you protected a number of pages the vandal usually targets. The filter was useful in identifying that particular vandal (who seems to have been the subject of some older range blocks, but I cannot figure out what they're connected to and thus do not know where to report them other than to just send them to AIV when I see them). Anyway, just hoping I can be filled in a little. Cheers! EvergreenFir (talk) 05:40, 7 February 2017 (UTC)

The article Sleeping gas has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:
While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.
You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}}

the article's talk page.
Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}}
will stop the

This very much involves this project too, especially with growing renewed interest around the site about what WP:ACTRIAL was all about.

For your recent comment on WP:ARCA I bestow upon you this Barnstar. You have succinctly and passionately argued why the current ban of new editors from all things related Israel or Palestine is against our very spirit and done so much more eloquently than I could ever have done, although I share your thoughts almost exactly. Let's hope your passionate speech can persuade ArbCom to reconsider this restriction. Regards So Why 08:51, 23 February 2017 (UTC) |

Hey MusikAnimal, thanks for sending out the last admin newsletter, it's great! One question about the process improvements you made - the subject was in Wikipedia:Administrators' newsletter/Mass message but you later removed it. The guide states that a subject shouldn't be added. Is that still correct? I can't see that a subject would currently be added from anywhere. Thanks, Sam Walton ( talk) 14:59, 6 March 2017 (UTC)

Hello, GA Cup competitors! Sunday, February 26 saw the end of Round 3. Shearonink finished in first with 616 points, which is more than the point totals for all the other competitors combined! In second place, Krishna Chaitanya Velaga earned an impressive 152 points, followed by Sturmvogel_66 in third with 111 points. Chris troutman and Kees08 each received a wild-card and were able to advance to the Final Round. There was a major error on the part of the judges, and initially, 8 users were advanced instead of 5. This has been corrected, and we sincerely apologize for this confusion. In Round 3, 71 reviews were completed! At the beginning of this GA Cup, the longest wait was over 7 months; at the end of Round 3, the longest wait is still holding steady at a little over 6 months, the same as for the previous round. By the end of all three Rounds, the total number of nominations increased slightly - this suggests that users are more willing to nominate, knowing that their articles will be reviewed. We hope to see all remaining users fighting it out in the Final so we can keep tackling the backlog. In the Final Round, the user with the highest score will be the winner. The Final has already started and will end on March 31st at 23:59:59 UTC. Information about Finals and the pools can be found here. Good luck and have fun! Cheers from Figureskatingfan, 3family6, Jaguar, and MrWooHoo. To subscribe or unsubscribe to future GA Cup newsletters, please add or remove your name to
our mailing list. If you are a participant still competing, you will be on the mailing list no matter what as this is the easiest way to communicate between all participants.

Saturday March 11: Art+Feminism Edit-a-thon @ MoMA | |
---|---|
Join us at the Dorothy and Lewis B. Cullman Education and Research Building at the Museum of Modern Art, 4 West 54th Street, on Saturday, March 11, 2017 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. for an all-day communal updating of Wikipedia entries on subjects related to art and feminism. There will be childcare, snacks, multiple trainings and panel discussions. People of all gender identities and expressions welcomed and encouraged to attend. This year’s edit-a-thon kicks off at 10:00 a.m. with a conversation about information activism with writer Joanne McNeil and Data & Society Research Institute Fellow Zara Rahman, moderated by Kimberly Drew, the social media manager for the Metropolitan Museum of Art, creator of the Tumblr “Black Contemporary Art,” and the person behind @museummammy on Instagram. Afternoon breakout groups will engage in focused discussions about related issues, including intersectionality and librarianship, power structures in notability guidelines on Wikipedia, and radical archives. -- Pharos ( talk) 18:46, 7 March 2017 (UTC) And a broader calendar of events on the theme this week/weekend, and the next:

Dear MusikAnimal
I'm trying to set up a process to allow UNESCO staff members and muggles like me to easily see where text from UNESCO publications is used on Wikipedia and the number of times the pages it is used on are seen. I spoke to Jarry1250 about this and he gave me a way of searching Wikipedia to find all the uses of the template used to credit open source text that includes text from UNESCO. Its not really practical to add everything to a category to do the counting because it is a huge amount of work to keep the category up to date and easy to miss new articles.
Is there a simple way to automatically input the results of a search result like this into the pageviews tool of WMFlabs? The issue would remain that there would be overcounting of page views for text added to already existing articles where the open license text had been added recently but it would be much much better than the current process of counting everything one page at a time. Also if there is an easier way to do this do let me know, I'm very much cobbling this together as I go along.
Thanks

Can you say whether Massviews is able to generate a report for articles within a WikiProject?
For WP:WikiProject Sanitation for example, Template:WikiProject Sanitation is on the talk page of all articles in that project. However, a "transclusion" query will return traffic to to talk pages, and not to the articles themselves. Is there a way to get traffic to the articles with this tool? Thanks. Sunday March 26: Action=History Wiki-Hackathon @ Ace Hotel | |
---|---|
On the last Sunday of every month, the Boardroom at Ace Hotel New York hosts Action Equals History — a unique opportunity for New Yorkers to learn hands-on in a technology training/workshop session about the mechanics, practices and benefits of Wikipedia and the Wikimedia projects. This is an opportunity for all to gather, share and work collectively towards a more robust account of history. For this month, and following on the recent Art+Feminism campaign, we'll focus on building better edit-a-thon tools for a variety of different thematic campaigns, and user-testing them with the community. Towards a goal of advancing these tools for wider use with diverse local groups.
Newcomers are very welcome! Bring your friends and colleagues! -- Pharos ( talk) 05:14, 21 March 2017 (UTC) |

I am starting to think more about the audit process after the clean-up of the SvG articles in done, due for 24 April 2017. See User:Aymatth2/SvG clean-up/Audit notes. Any comments welcome. My guess is that most editors who worked on the clean-up did a careful review and fix-up for articles in areas they found interesting. A few editors may have been more impatient and slapdash and moved back a lot of articles without much checking, more on a "looks o.k." basis. The articles they restored probably have to be deleted. Question: Is there a way to generate a list of all the articles moved back to mainspace, e.g. [62], that shows the editor who moved the article back to mainspace? Or just a count by editor? Then we could take a careful look at the quality of the moves the most active editors did.
I am not sure that looking for "rogue editors" makes sense, but it seems worth checking. Thanks, Aymatth2 ( talk) 23:07, 19 March 2017 (UTC)

Also, since it just came to me right now - do you know why it is not possible to watch someone's user page without it automatically watching their talk page as well? I tried to watch Jimbo Wales user page (not talk page) but could not do so without it watching both (and you can't unwatch the talk page without it unwatching the user page).

Hey MA!
I was trying to figure out how many pages in the category "Living People" did not have the {{BLP}} tag, so I could add that to them. The thing is, I don't want to manually search through 1,088,231 articles to find which ones have it or don't have it. I'm working on an SQL query to find those pages on Quarry, but I seem to be messing something up. Here is the code I'm using:
SELECT
page_title
FROM page
JOIN templatelinks
ON tl_from = page_id
JOIN categorylinks
ON cl_from = page_id
WHERE cl_to = "Living_people"
AND tl_namespace = 10
AND page_namespace = 0
NOT "{{BLP}}"
LIMIT 500;
It gives me an error on line 11. I don't get what the problem is. You seem to know a lot about SQL queries, so maybe you could point me in the right direction? Thanks!

Fishhead2100 added a source for a move name on Dean Ambrose. The source was from iTech, yet the article didn't mention the moves name. They then added one from RollingStone.com that did mention it by name. So, once that one was added, I removed the iTech article since it never mentioned the move's name, with an edit summary stating as much. Fishhead then went and reverted my edit, without give a reason. (talk page stalker) Crash Under ride 18:25, 15 February 2017 (UTC)

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.
You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}}
notice, but please explain why in your
edit summary or on
the article's talk page.
Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}}
will stop the

articles for deletion allows discussion to reach

Thanks

Your MusikBot automated procedure has repeatedly removed the protection templates from a page that was put under protection due to repeated vandalism. Please see my discussion on the related talk page and even the recent page history will convince of the wisdom of the choice (that was not even mine) to put the Maria Reynolds page under partial protection. Thank you for your attention. Isananni ( talk) 13:16, 23 March 2017 (UTC)
Sorry about that I must have not clicked it correctly to turn it off. By the way using the noinclude doesn't work either. You have to uncheck both. CambridgeBayWeather, Uqaqtuq (talk), Sunasuttuq 19:12, 24 March 2017 (UTC)

MusikAnimal, the bot hasn't updated the DYK nominations page for two nights now, March 26 and March 27. I've done the manual updates in both cases, but I thought you'd want to know about this. The bot has been doing other takes, just not this one for DYK. Many thanks for anything you can do; it's been wonderfully convenient having the bot take care of this chore. Good one [66]. I saw it in my notifications, and spent a while looking for a reason for the desysopping before I twigged. Optimist on the run ( talk) 21:51, 1 April 2017 (UTC) |
