Hi MusikAnimal, I've hit a number of "bugs" in the new interface. At first I figured I'd collect them (some of them I think went away), but I then realized I was forgetting them. So, at the risk of being a nag, I'm going to bring them to you as I see them.

You are receiving this message because a technical change may affect a bot, gadget, or user script you have been using. The breaking change involves API calls. This change has been planned for two years. The WMF will start making this change on 30 June 2015. A partial list of affected bots can be seen here:
https://lists.wikimedia.org/pipermail/wikitech-l/2015-June/081931.html This includes all bots that are using pywikibot compat. Some of these bots have already been fixed. However, if you write user scripts or operate a bot that uses the
API, then you should check your code, to make sure that it will not break.
What, exactly, is breaking? The "default continuation mode" for action=query requests to api.php will be changing to be easier for new coders to use correctly. To find out whether your script or bot may be affected, then search the source code (including any frameworks or libraries) for the string "query-continue". If that is not present, then the script or bot is not affected. In a few cases, the code will be present but not used. In that case, the script or bot will continue working.
This change will be part of 1.26wmf12. It will be deployed to test wikis (including mediawiki.org) on 30 June, to non-Wikipedias (such as Wiktionary) on 1 July, and to all Wikipedias on 2 July 2015.
If your bot or script is receiving the warning about this upcoming change (as seen at https://www.mediawiki.org/w/api.php?action=query&list=allpages ), it's time to fix your code!
Either of the above solutions may be tested immediately, you'll know it works because you stop seeing the warning.
Do you need help with your own bot or script? Ask questions in e-mail on the mediawiki-api or wikitech-l mailing lists. Volunteers at m:Tech or w:en:WP:Village pump (technical) or w:en:Wikipedia:Bot owners' noticeboard may also be able to help you.
Are you using someone else's gadgets or user scripts? Most scripts are not affected. To find out if a script you use needs to be updated, then post a note at the discussion page for the gadget or the talk page of the user who originally made the script. Welcome to the GA Cup! In less than 72 hours, the competition will begin! Before you all start reviewing nominations and reassessments we want to make sure you understand the following:
Also, rather than creating a long list on what to remember, make sure you have read the "Scoring", "Submissions", and "FAQ" pages. Now some of you are probably wondering how on earth the rounds will work. The rounds will work in a similar fashion as the previous competition, with the exception of the first round. Round 1 will have everyone compete in one big pool. Depending on the final number of participants after sign-ups close, a to-be-determined number of participants will move on (highest scorers will move on) to Round 2. We guarantee that the top 15 will move on (this number may change), so make sure you aim for those top positions! Moving on to Round 2, participants will be split into pools. The pools will be determined by a computer program that places participants by random. More details regarding Round 2 will be sent out at the end of Round 1. It is important to note that the GA Cup will run on UTC time, so make sure you know what time that is for where you live! On that note, the GA Cup will start on July 1 at 0:00:01 UTC; Round 1 will end on July 29 at 23:59:59 UTC; Round 2 will commence on August 1 at 0:00:01 UTC. All reviews must be started after or on the start time of the round. If you qualify for Round 2 but do not complete a review before the end of Round 1, the review can be carried over to Round 2; however that review will not count for Round 1. Prior to the start of the the second round, participants who qualify to move on will be notified. Finally, if you know anyone else that might be interesting in participating, let them know! Sign-ups close on July 15 so there is still plenty of time to join in on the action! If you have any further questions, contact one of the judges or leave a message here. After sign-ups close, check the Pools page as we will post the exact number of participants that will move on to the next round. Because this number will be determined past the halfway mark of Round 1, we encourage you to aim to be in the top 15 as the top 15 at the end of the round are guaranteed to move on. Cheers from 3family6, Dom497, Figureskatingfan, Jaguar and MrWooHoo. To subscribe or unsubscribe to future GA Cup newsletter, please add or remove your name to
our mailing list. If you are a participant, you will be on the mailing list no matter what as this is the easiest way to communicate between all participants.

Hello MusikAnimal! Info from I Killed My BFF (an article about a Lifetime (TV network) movie I originall authored) keeps getting removed by different IPs and new accounts without explanation, despite the fact that it's sourced info. You may remember this, because you reverted one of the earlier removals. Anyway, I'm not exactly sure what to do here... I don't want to revert again, as I suspect that it's possible that someone may be trying to lure me into an edit war. So, what's the next step?... I'd try discussing this, but as I said it's been a different IP or account reverting (all without edit summaries), all four times. Greetings! You've always been informative and able to help, so I was hoping you can give me your perspective on this. I'm currently working on an article, and just recently had a disruptive editor claiming all sorts of "wikipedia standards" to ensure the article fits their own vision (we are currently trying to get consensus on the talk page). I'm trying to handle this delicately with the user, but they are claiming that their edits fit a standard that I've been doing research on and can't seem to find. I'm finding this person's edits unconstructive and disruptive, and was hoping if you feel the same you may be able to intervene. Instant Gratification (Dance Gavin Dance album). My corrections to Canadian spelling conventions in the article on Émile Nelligan. British English doesn't hold just for the UK, but all of the Commonwealth and ex-Commonwealth (eg Zambia, South Africa, India). You argue that British English is justified if the topic is British, and US English if American. The same argument holds for all Commonwealth countries. Canadian spelling conforms for the most part to so-called British English spelling conventions. The same can also be said for Australian, New Zealand, the Republic of Ireland, and English-speaking Africa and Asia. Dextrase ( talk) 14:43, 3 July 2015 (UTC)

MusikAnimal, the article on Seeman has been a matter of dispute for quite some time now, some youve been involved in, the most persistent of which seems to be the persons first name. Recents edits were made adding more references substantiating the persons first name which are being repeatedly removed and being called vandalism. There have been many discussions made in the talk page regarding this matter which have gone no where. Arguments for removing the first name seem a expect a copy of a passort/birth certificate so as to add a first name, quoting reasons like "printing mistake", majority of sources dont mention first name etc. I just wanted some clarifications so as to be more aware before making future edits. When making changes to articles on living persons, are articles from news papers not enough? Do we need passport or birth certificates? Is that the usual policy of wikipedia? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2601:641:101:B1B8:FC91:BD8F:7387:E448 ( talk) 22:56, 12 July 2015 (UTC)

MusikAnimal, thanks for protecting the article. I just want to clarify something about the content of the article that's causing monthly removal. Since it's a biblical article, and religious editors and viewers will find it offensive...Interpretation of Book of Ruth Lesbianism has been removed constantly mostly by IPs. My main concern is...if I add and expand the ideal of Homosexuality concerning the article...most likely the IPs will return to revert after protection is over. So any advice for future blankers of content? — JudeccaXIII ( talk) 19:24, 13 July 2015 (UTC)

The administrator has refused to give access due to my comment on his talk page. I was in a hurry, and the first edit was not made according to talk page standards. It's not that I don't know how to edit. I never imagined that this simple neglect will be taken so seriously. I thought he will only check my edit count. What i will do now, wait for another six months.?-- Cosmic Emperor 17:46, 22 June 2015 (UTC)

Hi, MusikAnimal. As I am sure you are aware, with the recent site ban of Technical 13 by ArbCom, there is one fewer person to help maintain the functionality of the various X! tools. Will you be stepping in the breach, or will you try to recruit another coder to assist you? FYI, the X! tools page history app is not currently working: [14]. Hi MusikAnimal,
I normally don't get involved in internet politics, but can you please clarify why the word "Nigger" needs to be pointed out as having a racist connotation?
In this context, I believe a simple hyperlink to the meaning of the word would be a better way of handling this. 65.223.38.50 ( talk) 18:28, 26 June 2015 (UTC)
Wednesday July 8, 7pm: WikiWednesday Salon and Skill-Share NYC | |

You are invited to join the Wikimedia NYC community for our evening "WikiWednesday" salon and knowledge-sharing workshop by 14th Street / Union Square in Manhattan. This month will also feature on a review of past and upcoming editathons, including Black Lunch Table Editathon @ MoMA on July 13. We also hope for the participation of our friends from the Free Culture movement and from educational and cultural institutions interested in developing free knowledge projects. We will also follow up on plans for recent and upcoming editathons, and other outreach activities. After the main meeting, pizza and refreshments and video games in the gallery!
Featuring a keynote talk this month to be determined! We especially encourage folks to add your 5-minute lightning talks to our roster, and otherwise join in the "open space" experience! Newcomers are very welcome! Bring your friends and colleagues! -- Pharos ( talk) 05:45, 28 June 2015 (UTC) |

Thanks in advance! -- IJBall ( contribs • talk) 18:18, 30 June 2015 (UTC)

No, don't worry, I'm not giving you one (you don't need it :) ) You asked about it though. It's a custom template based on Isiah Mustaffa's Old Spice Commercials, it's specifically directed at vandals. I don't give it out to every vandal I find, just specific cases, I.E: Vandal repeatedly vandalized the same page after being warned typically I'd use it in that case on 3RR, or if the vandal's been warned by others and they're vandalizing the same page over and over, I'll put one on.
Thanks a lot for your kind attention. If newspapers are reliable sources, there shouldnt be any dispute here. The initial reversion of the name was the source of the edit war. I dont have the slightest faith in going back to the talk page with the other user so I will seek dispute resolution. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2601:641:101:B1B8:6CD3:17C6:21A:CF1E ( talk) 03:41, 13 July 2015 (UTC)

Hey MusikAnimal. Just going through some edit filters to trim back ones we might not need since we're hitting the cap once again. Just wondering if there isn't some redundancy between Special:AbuseFilter/613 and Special:AbuseFilter/623? They seem to catch most of the same edits. Thanks, Sam Walton ( talk) 00:25, 14 July 2015 (UTC)
The protection, that you put on this page, recently expired and the unconstructive IP edits have already returned.
