Yeah, but it would be generally useful I think. I mean, you would be able to just delete articles that meet the CSD criteria without having to request it, you will be able to block serious vandals instead of just reverting them, etc. Of course, it is your decision, but I think that you would do well and improve Wikipedia with the tools. Hello again. Do you, by chance, know an editor who enjoys reviewing for GA? I'm asking because Leon Day is still waiting for a helping hand. All the while, I also expanded another article (music-related) for GA and I want to be able to focus entirely on one review at a time if possible. Yep - timing with GAs is always tricky; either two of your noms sit for a long time and then both get picked up by separate reviewers at the same time, or one sits there forever and gets reviewed right when you have 20 things up in the air off-wiki and you're as busy as you could possibly be. :)

With Leon Day, I was worried that I had contributed to it significantly, which would make it a good idea to abstain from the review. However, looking back at the page history, I think my memory of my contributions must have been exaggerated. I didn't actually do that much for the article. I wouldn't mind reviewing the Day entry, though I might not be able to get started until later in the week.

If you were to run into this issue down the road, I don't think it would be too annoying to post a note at WT:BASEBALL letting people know that your nom has been there for a bit and asking whether anyone would be able to review it. EricEnfermero ( Talk) 02:10, 17 April 2017 (UTC)

Eric, So great to have other nurses in Wikipedia! It's a bit overwhelming for busy nurses to figure out Wikipedia, but they are making some great additions. Any recommendations for new editors, e.g. resources other than the standard Wiki documents or things you wish you had known when you started! Any advice would be appreciated!

That's a great question. I think we look mostly at WP guidelines because it's the easiest way to try to get tons of editors to do things the same way most of the time. I do understand that it's hard to learn all of those guidelines though. Since mistakes are sort of expected on some level, I think it's just really important for new editors to remain open to feedback from others.

My initial approach was just to begin by making small changes and watching the subsequent edits of experienced editors on those pages. (I did have more time to get accustomed to things because I wasn't editing within the timeframe of a class.) I'm happy to help if you run into specific difficulties though! I don't know where the effort was organized, but here is one of several articles to pick up the issue. They all reported it as a Google Search issue, but WP is mentioned in at least one of the articles' comment sections. Doing a Google News search for Tom Brady owner still turns up the coverage of the erroneous search results, though the actual search results were corrected when we got a handle on our Jets entry. Why do you keep reverting the information about Joe Mande? It is not an opinion. It is cited by news sources. Some of the sources are interviews from Joe Mande himself. Mande is a self-described Internet troll. Wikipedia shouldn't let anyone hide behind Internet trolling simply because they have a following as a comedian. That's an occupational bias. It is important information to identify trolling in this new age of the Internet.

I beg to differ. The most important job of an encyclopedia is to neutrally put together information from reliable sources. When we try to shoehorn in information from iffy sources using creative wording to support some questionable assertions, that falls more under original research. Instead of being an important priority for an encyclopedia, original research (including the identification of people we think to be Internet trolls) is something to be avoided entirely. EricEnfermero, if you say Wikipedia doesn't label people things like "Internet troll" even though in this case Mande has previously identified himself as an Internet troll countless times then why do people like Kenneth McCarthy a.k.a Ken M, who also have gained a following through the Internet using comedy like Mande, have the title of "Internet troll" on their Wikipedia page? It sounds to me that you are not properly upholding Wikipedia objective standards, but are rather picking and choosing based on your personal bias. If you disagree, please explain? Otherwise, allow the change in simply giving Mande the title of Internet troll in addition to the other titles he claims. The Internet is not meant to be some of alternative comedy club stage because anybody can use the Internet.

I am going on good faith that you're a pretty intelligent person, and if you're as smart as I think you are, you'll be able to reread your last message above and see how silly it looks. When I tell you that neutral wording is the second of the five things Wikipedia wants us to really remember (known as the Five Pillars), I am certainly not saying that I have read and assessed all of Wikipedia's articles for neutrality. After all, there are >5.4 million of them. If I come across an article with a vague and unclear descriptor and there's an easy way to rewrite that in a professional tone, I should do it, even if there are other articles I haven't gotten to yet. Can you specifically quote the part that you found unintelligent? I understand Wikipedia's "neutral wording" policy and the fact that you can't monitor every single Wikipedia page but the previous comment was asking if a subject like "Ken M" can be titled an Internet troll on Wikipedia why can't "Joe Mande" who has admitted to being those words? Lots of things could have been omitted in this sequence of events, starting with the assertion that we should add material to WP with the goal that a celebrity's unintelligent fans will see him the way a particular editor sees him. All of you are giving this guy Joe Mande way too much attention than he deserves. He hasn't become moderately-known for his comedy but rather for mentioning the names of people who are actually famous on Twitter and/or in his stand-up, even recruiting ignorant athletes like Blake Griffin to be part of his gimmick. Mande is as successful as a comedian as Trump is as a politician. They both have the position they desired but got the position through gimmicks rather through any kind of skills. Mande is every definition of the words "Internet troll" and based on the cited sources has consistently been for years, no matter how much Wikipedia moderators want to make him appear to be just an innocuous comedian. Anyway, how about we stop giving Mande even more Internet attention that he seeks. What is written on his Wikipedia page is true and has been modified and verified by Wikipedia moderator, EricEnfermero. So, how about Wikipedia moderators work both ways and prevent any subjective info on the subject's page to make him look worse while also undoing any blanking of objectively written and cited info to make him look better. Also, if you're going to quote him in saying "I don’t wake up in the morning and rub my hands together thinking about who I’m going to mess with today." be fair and use the entire quote: "I love the fact that these retarded celebrities share their thoughts. That’s my favorite thing. Agreed that this is dragging on a bit too long - and I think that extensive discussion of the wording in an article should be conducted on the article's talk page. As far as I know, WP doesn't have a role known as moderator. They have a few titles for editors that have responsibilities outside of editing articles, but I don't hold any of those titles. The table of contents will update automatically as you add section headings to the entry, but there's really not enough content here to speculate on whether your planned contributions will meet WP guidelines. I do see that one of the headings refers to an overview - but the lead section of a WP article serves as an overview and as a summary of the content covered in the rest of the entry. Regarding this revert: it's safe to always assume anything added by IPs or new editors related to Pardon My Take (and possibly Barstool Sports by extension) to be vandalism. I've never listened to the podcast but they apparently must frequently encourage vandalizing Wikipedia articles, because I can't tell you how many times I've reverted stuff that I later found out was due to something that was said on it. I think you'll find that to be unnecessary (and failing that, I'll definitely find it to be unnecessary). Most of the time, if you adhere to the five pillars and then remember to stop adding something when another editor removes it and corrects you, I think you'll be fine. It's just how we would word things on Wikipedia. I am quick to take down poorly sourced assertions or broad generalizations whenever I come across them. It's not that I am really being protective of any entry; it's just that your writing style immediately stuck out as inappropriate. We do need to be honest and to include appropriately placed and well-referenced mentions of significant biographical facts, but we also need to write them in a way that would be consistent with encyclopedic style. NURSING - (Do I leave message here, idk) Anyway, so basically what I did was I read on another website about nursing, and later came to the wiki site, however, I noticed some lines were exactly the same. I found the information came from a website and so I simply cited the source of the line that came from the website. I'm sure there was more plagerism, but that was enough to sell me on it. I hope I'm leaving this in the right place. Anyways thanks for your input.

I noticed that you added a reference, but that reference seemed to be the website of a facility, which would be a poor source for material about nursing history. In those cases, the usual approach is to delete the copyright-violating material, find a reliable source (maybe a nursing history book in this case), and use it to place new material in our own words. This term in causing chaos in my field of work, and wayyyy to many people reference wikipedia instead of academic journals. I do see one edit in which User:Philippe277 attempted to change the hit total, but I don't see anything more than that in the last few months. The edit probably came across as suspicious because it changed a statistic on a long-retired player without leaving an edit summary. I wasn't the editor who reverted in this case, but I understand why it raised concern; we see some instances where people will subtly vandalize articles with minor but erroneous changes, so it might have come across that way. I do note that the reverting editor did provide a brief but clear edit summary.

Please note that the best place to discuss article content is really at the article talk page. If you don't get a response there, a message at WT:BASEBALL may do the trick. It's usually unnecessary to leave more than a couple of edits at anyone's user talk page anyway; multiple messages will cause edit conflicts when the user tries to respond to you. You can use the Show Preview button before saving in order to avoid the need for several edits. If your message still isn't just right after a couple of saved edits, personally I would just leave it and then work it out once the user responds to you.

Hello. Yesterday I made additions to the article which you cleaned up. However, when I access that Wikipedia article the old article before yesterday pops up and not the new article.The only way I get to the new article is through the View history section. I am sure it is an easy fix. Also ,in first paragraph where it says got 3 consecutive hits and stole a base should be changed or modified. It seems too vague and mundane and presents nothing significant. For 7 years I have been making subtle changes or additions but I don't like deleting someone's original entry .Maybe you can come up with something a little better to improve the content. Good morning. I'm not sure what the issue is with the version of the article that displays. If you go into WP and access it by typing the name of the article into the search box at the upper right corner, I would think you'd automatically see the most recent version. I took out the mention of the non-notable game; I had seen that earlier and I meant to take it out at the time. I'm having some problems with my home internet, and it's not feasible to add much sourced content to articles from my mobile device, but I can return to it once I get back up and running.

I noticed that no one has weighed in on the Speaker hits issue. I know that there was already a thread about the issue on the Speaker talk page, but you might reply to that thread and just say that you are trying to follow up on the issue. That would be a good reminder for people who are interested in that page but who don't follow the discussions at WT:BASEBALL.

I can tell you that some people don't enjoy arguing over these minor statistical inconsistencies - and I don't really blame them. In the end, we're dealing with at least two reputable sources - BR and MLB itself - on a disagreement of one hit out of several thousand. I notice that the page you sent me -- http://retrosheet.org/umpgmchg.htm -- does not mention John McSherry's death during the Reds game on opening day of 1996. I suppose technically it's not an injury if you suffer a fatal heart attack (and since it caused the postponement of the game, I guess technically it wasn't during a game after all), but you'd think retrosheet would have found a place for such an event in their list, huh?

Anyway, I used that excellent resource to re-update the Brick Owens page on Wikipedia, pointing out that it seems that the 8/20/1912 game is the one and only one in which more than one umpire was forced to leave the same game due to injury. Thanks again!

I think you're right; rather than a huge oversight, I think it's just that the incident doesn't align with the purposes of those lists. I think the game would be on that list if they had wheeled McSherry off and then the 2B umpire (Rippley) had to come in and put plate gear on to finish the game with a three-man crew. Instead, everyone was traumatized and they rescheduled the game for another day, so there was really no umpire "change" - at least that day.

There are two other lists linked there. One of them (about umpires arriving late to games) is obviously irrelevant, but I thought the game might be on the third list - umpire crew changes resulting from suspended games that were later finished with different crews. However, looking into it some more, I see that this game wasn't actually suspended. Since it was only a few pitches into the game, they cancelled the game and rescheduled one that would start completely over. I think that's why, stats-wise, it's like "the McSherry game" never officially happened.

An interesting note about these lists: I think they were largely or entirely the work of a man named David Vincent. He was a very intriguing guy; he had a doctorate in music and was a band director, and then he became a computer programmer, and later he became the official scorer for the Washington Nationals and a founding officer for Retrosheet. When I was working on a piece for a SABR publication last year, David sent me some amazing data through a mutual connection that made my task ten times easier. Sadly, he died in July of cancer. He did a lot for SABR and for baseball research in general; he was maintaining a meticulous database of every known MLB home run, for example. I was glad to see that his death was widely acknowledged; he had obits at MLB.com, The New York Times, Washington Post, and USA Today, to name a few.

I really can't think of a way that this could be included while maintaining the appropriate tone for an encyclopedia. People closely connected to a subject are discouraged from editing that subject's article, but if that's the situation, you could include this info on the subject's personal website. A celebrity hanging out with a celebrity (or a notable person becoming "a celebrity in his own right") shouldn't be something you ever read about in an encyclopedia. We just stick to neutral descriptions of activities that receive significant coverage in reliable sources. Thanks for helping us keep WP free of promotional or non-encyclopedic language. Retrosheet was not wrong, I just went to the specified start of his slump at the end of the first date specified,using a part of a game, so I was incorrect about that. However, from August 21-28, 1966, he had only 3 hits in 29 at-bats, his batting average dropped 12 points in a week.(retrosheet daily log for Oliva). Could that be added too? If so, please add this. He was a great hitter, and if not been beset by so many injuries, would have won a couple of more batting titles and made the Hall of Fame. He played from 1964-1976, a pitchers dominated era. Princhalex, I've created a new section on my user talk page for your message. I removed the Help Needed template from my user talk page because that template might erroneously suggest that I'm the one seeking assistance. In general, questions about article content should be discussed on the article talk page and it looks like you've started that process, so your best bet is to let the discussion proceed, especially since it sounds like this isn't an emergency where there is some sensitive/contentious/erroneous material being included about you.

Briefly, if your entry is written with only objective facts that appear in independent and reliable sources (ex: most newspapers, books, journals and magazines), you shouldn't have to worry about any Citation Needed tags. The hard thing is that sometimes there can be things you know are true but that are not readily verifiable in reliable sources; those things should generally be left out of WP entries. I saw that you sent me some emails, but I am more comfortable (especially in cases involving the subjects of articles) if the discussion stays on the relevant talk pages and it sounds like that's already going on. I'm getting it. After this, you really need to go back to the article talk page though. That will keep the communication consistent and it will make it easier on you to navigate. Part of the problem right now is that you have communication going in too many places, even in my email again, but I feel like I was straightforward in asking you not to do that anymore in this situation.

The passage with the CN tag doesn't seem entirely verified. There is nothing in there about the master's degree, for example. Note that we don't want a transcript or anything, just a newspaper or magazine or book passage mentioning your degrees. Just insert that in place of the CN tag and we should be good - or remember that you can take any unverifiable info out of the entry and there would be no need for a tag. Note that a quote attributed to you on your Berklee page characterizes you as a former recording artist, so that may lead to confusion. To answer your question from Wikipedia:Sockpuppet investigations/Aggiefan47, you have a few different options. If you're adding new IP's or accounts to an existing report, then yes you should be adding them manually. If you're reporting many at once, you can use the sockpuppeteer option in twinkle's ARV menu. Broadly speaking there are three main reasons for keeping reports separate: the existing report is already closed, but not archived, if the evidence in the two reports is sufficiently different, so that investigating one is unlikely shed any light on the other, or for CU reasons when one report is only IP's and the other includes a CheckUser request. I may not be 100% clear on the meaning of your message, but it looks like the wikilink for the 2x HR leader wikilink in the Gonzalez infobox goes to the right place, but of course you can fix it if not or you can raise the issue on the article talk page. The issue with Spanish-language diacritic marks (accents/tildes) is going to be a constant battle because the average English-speaking baseball fan doesn't write like that. But you can fix them by finding the right letter with the accent, highlighting it, copying it and then pasting it in place of the non-accented letter. I'm wondering if there should technically be an accent over the first O in Robinson (this would be more consistent with Spanish accent rules, but it's not found in any sources I can locate - the RC Facebook account, for example, doesn't use diacritics anywhere in his name at all). Hello, EricEnfermero – You can see that I have completed the copy-edit you requested at Wikipedia:WikiProject Guild of Copy Editors/Requests. It was quite well written as it was, so I only made a few small edits. I wanted to mention a few things:

1) A comma after an initial prepositional phrases such as "In 1990" is optional, as long as it is consistent throughout the article. I prefer no comma there; I don't think it is necessary as a guide to pronunciation, and I think it reflects a more modern style. However, if you prefer the comma, let me know and I'd be glad to put the commas back in.

2) In the section Alan Wiggins#Later years, I moved a sentence (with the accompanying reference) from the third paragraph to the second paragraph. I thought that a sentence beginning "Wiggins stated that he had contracted the disease" did not belong after statements saying he had died. However, after saving my edits and looking at the second paragraph, I realized that there is a bit of a disconnect between that sentence and the sentence right before it. The sentence begins "Wiggins stated that he had contracted the disease", but the previous sentence mentions two diseases, pneumonia the tuberculosis, which, of course, are not the disease meant by "the disease". I thought the sentence might work if it is placed immediately after this sentence:

• Though he often stayed with friends, some of his longtime friends felt that he died in seclusion, embarrassed by what had happened with his life.

Another possibility is to put the sentence back where it was, in the third paragraph, but change "Wiggins stated" to "Wiggins had stated", which makes it clear that he stated it earlier, before he died.

You might give this some thought and decide the best place for that sentence.

3) In the last paragraph in the section Alan Wiggins#Early career, you have a sentence that ends:

• after the Dodgers decided to leave him unprotected.

I wonder if you could either link the term "unprotected" or briefly explain it. Those readers not familiar with baseball might not know what "unprotected" means.
