Hallo, it occurred to me that you might have (access to) copies of some of the interesting antique books cited in 'Charles Woodmason'. If so, if you could photograph the title pages, or other interesting pages, you could upload them to Wikimedia commons under a

While I certainly appreciate your adding Category:Methodists to applicable articles, please ensure that these articles are not already included in a child category such as Category:American Methodists. This was the case with Simeon S. Willis and David L. Williams, two articles on my watchlist. I have reverted those good faith edits. Hi. I see you have added the category 'Methodists' to both William Williams Pantycelyn and Anne Grifiths pages. I agree that there is a compelling logic for this, but it raises the classic difficulty. Looking at the Methodism box at the foot of these pages shows distinctive doctrines - conditional preservation and governmental atonement in particular - that do not sit comfortably with the Calvinism of these two writers (or indeed of Whitefield and Selina, Countess of Huntingdon). This could confuse those who are less familiar with this period of church history than we are.
Mind you, this generation seemed far better able to cooperate despite the Calvinism-Arminianism divide than many of their successors!

I know you've been very busy, and you may be upset that so much hard work has been undone. Please spend a little time talking to experienced editors about parent categories and child categories. Wikimedia software is unhelpful here because it cannot enforce a hierarchy of categories, so we rely on all editors gaining an understanding quickly. I have looked today at Hermann Braun and removed a load of categories where the parent category is present as well as the child category. This is the only area of Wikipedia which you seem insistent on not understanding. Since you do not enter into conversations about this here, on your talk page, I am starting to conclude that this is turning from being unaware of the issue into carrying on regardless. This is disruptive editing. IT requires others to put right the things you insist on doing wrong. You need to stop doing this, and to stop at once. Ideally you need to go back to the articles you have worked on where you have added categories and remove those you added in error. There is a point when disruptive editing turns into vandalism. When it is judged to be vandalism then editing blocks ensue. So please stop creating this problem at once, and start to solve what you have done.
If you do not understand any of this, please ask me. If you would prefer to ask someone else, please place {{Helpme}} on this page, explaining underneath it what help you wouls like.

I have reverted much of your recent editing period. You left the article in a mess of syntax errors and incomplete text. If you do not know how to use a facility please learn by using your sandbox.
I have also done my best to remove the overcategorisation you have left the article with. I am perplexed that you do not choose to reply to messages. Wikipedia is meant to be a collegiate vehicle, edited using consensus and teamwork. It is not a place where those who plough their own furrows will find much pleasure, I'm afraid. The furrow you are ploughing is leaving a welter of mess and destruction in its path. Surely you must see this when you look at the work you have created? If you make a mess please revert your own edits. Using the preview facility is highly advisable. Experienced editors use it a lot when they are not wholly sure that what they intend will produce a valid outcome.

There are some real questions regarding the overuse of them, which is causing a lot of work for other editors. I see most of your edits are high quality and very helpful, but your adding of categories is not. There is a discussion ongoing at WP:AN regarding it. I'm hoping you see this and just acknowledge it, although you have yet to demonstrate that you are very chatty. Regardless, the only alternative is blocking you to get your attention, so we can be sure that this message has been conveyed, so a quick note would be helpful. Having seen that you are a librarian I am sure the full portfolio of tools to create not just references but citations will appeal to you. I would like to commend the cite button to you:
. It helps create full citations and often helps you do this automatically. Try it in your sandbox (not forgetting to put a {{reflist}} tag after the citation so you may see it easily when you save.
Edit your sandbox and press
. A screen with fields to fill out opens up once you choose (eg) "News". put the url of (in this case) a news item into the box to the left of the
button and then click it. Usually, but not always, much of the rest of the form is filled out from the target web page.
Once you see how it works you might be interested in studying the templates behind the screen. Have a look at {{ Cite news}} as an example of the one I just guided you towards. It has other parameters and yo may find these appropriate additions. - I've just converted a couple of the style that you used to our more formal style in Hermann Braun so you can see what I mean. I used {{ Cite web}}, added the word German in the language box and translated the pipe ("|") character to a hyphen so it didn't interfere with template syntax and that makes it all tidy and lovely. I also fiund I needed to add the publisher to that box because it didn't pick it up. Usually it does, just not today! Please do have a look and try it out. I know you'll like it.

Please do have a look at the citation tools, they help all your fellow editors, present and future. Although you find IMDb cited all over, it isn't held to be a solid source. I'd recommend finding a better one if you can. If any of the articles go on to be worked up to ' good article' status ( GA), then IMDb sources would have to be replaced. Also, please use edit summaries so that others can understand the rationale behind your changes. Some of us have one or two thousand articles on our watchlists - summaries are tremendously helpful. We work as a collaborative community, working together to build and improve the encyclopaedia. The community aspect is heart of what we do. Thanks for all your good work of the last few days. You seem to be finding your feet fast. I had some thoughts for you that you might find useful, quirks of WP that are not immediately obvious. So, here goes. Articles that appear in red are sometimes added because an editor is suggesting an article needs to be written about a subject. If I link Lloyd Park, in Walthamstow, for example, it might a nudge that this major park in London has no piece written about as yet. As we are the English language version of WP, we have a strong leaning towards using English sources and links where at all possible, especially in the external links section. (There are currently WPs 285 other languages). Wikipedia pages cannot be used to reference other WP articles. Solid citations are generally held to come from tertiary sources of fixed authorship whose facts can bear scrutiny. Such sources as blogs, forums, (IMDb) and indeed WP generally do not fly because they are ever changing and can be edited by any one at anytime. (There are always exceptions to this). External links (ELs) are not written in bold type. Sources are given as inline citations (as you have been doing with the cite tools). If you have been using a book to reference the cites 'Paulus Buscher. Das Stigma. Koblenz 1988', for example, you would list that in a 'sources' section towards the bottom of the page. In your line cite you could then just write <ref>Buscher (1998) p43</ref>. Websites are not listed in the 'Sources' section. Maybe have a neb at Anna Akhmatova ( GA) as an example of this and other formatting tweaks I have mentioned. One last thing. If you have a question about all the policies, guidelines and house style we bang on about, you can enter [[WP:____ ]] in the search box at the top of the page and the guideline will generally appear. For example [[WP:Inline citation]] or [[WP:Red link]]. It's the way all of us navigate and learn about the consensus (ish) the community has reached over the last 11 years. I don't want to overload you with info (maybe I have). I hope all this makes sense and helps to you edit happily and confidently. Thank you for your message. It's good to back from you. I can well imagine that the technology can seem quite intimidating. Our messages to you above have been trying to convey that it is not a case of 'sink or swim' but that we are here to help. I can understand your confusion in the response to your new article on Jürgen Ohlsen. As I mentioned above, certain websites that can be edited by users such as Wikipedia, IMDb and, it turns out filmportal.de, generally do not fly, as they are not held to be reliable sources. That said, you will find IMDb cited all over English Wikipedia and lots of other WPs also. Some editors are much more stringent about strong sources that others. I would advise adding any strong English language sources about Ohlsen if you can find them and removing the Wikipedia page that you have given as a reference. Google books names him in some viewable texts that you can use. We work as a community of several thousand editors, and though we work to a set of guidelines you will find that we are not always agreement. It can be difficult for new editors to get their heads around. My advice would be to hang in there and ask lots of questions. It will start to make sense after a while. I hope that helps. - I have had a root about in the Oxford Reference online, Questia, Credo and Highbeam research databases and none of them show anything about your man. He seems pretty obscure but worth digging for. By the way, if you sign your name with four tildas: ~~~~ it automatically brings up your signature and time stamp, which is helpful to all. Were the tutorials at all helpful? - I've taken the liberty of cleaning up the article a bit, in order to meet the guidelines. I added some refs. It might need a bit more twiddling as your reviewer doesn't like some of the sources that can be user-edited, but shortly the article should pass well enough. Once passed, I'd recommend sticking with the article and building it, rather than leaving it to its own devices. Now you are getting into the swing of things :) Wikipedia has a wonderful way of picking up articles that we write and other editors jump in and add, delete, enhance and improve the things we write. You;re already seeing that in the articles you have fathered here.
And now comes the next stage. At this point, unless we have things we still wish to add to the articles, the best thing to do is to keep them on our watch lists, and to move on to the next article. We watch benignly as others edit our work, and we smile as we see that they do things o make them better. If they make them worse, or if they vandalise things, we put that right, or we decide to rely on others to put that right. The main thing is that we move on.
I used the term "father" rather than "mother" for the articles we get involved with very carefully. We create life and move on. We do not nurture it, rear it, change its clothes or anything maternal. We simply father the articles and move on. The worst thing we can ever do is to become emotionally involved with an article. It will drive us nuts if we do that!
It's fun here, though some folk find it deeply frustrating. As long as it stays fun, stay here and enjoy the place. And ask any and all the questions you need to. Fiddle Faddle ( talk) 13:44, 24 September 2012 (UTC)

Hi. I see you have added the category 'Methodists' to both William Williams Pantycelyn and Anne Grifiths pages. I agree that there is a compelling logic for this, but it raises the classic difficulty. Looking at the Methodism box at the foot of these pages shows distinctive doctrines - conditional preservation and governmental atonement in particular - that do not sit comfortably with the Calvinism of these two writers (or indeed of Whitefield and Selina, Countess of Huntingdon). This could confuse those who are less familiar with this period of church history than we are.
Mind you, this generation seemed far better able to cooperate despite the Calvinism-Arminianism divide than many of their successors!

I have looked today at Hermann Braun and removed a load of categories where the parent category is present as well as the child category. This is the only area of Wikipedia which you seem insistent on not understanding. Since you do not enter into conversations about this here, on your talk page, I am starting to conclude that this is turning from being unaware of the issue into carrying on regardless. This is disruptive editing. IT requires others to put right the things you insist on doing wrong. You need to stop doing this, and to stop at once. Ideally you need to go back to the articles you have worked on where you have added categories and remove those you added in error. There is a point when disruptive editing turns into vandalism. When it is judged to be vandalism then editing blocks ensue. So please stop creating this problem at once, and start to solve what you have done.
If you do not understand any of this, please ask me. If you would prefer to ask someone else, please place {{Helpme}} on this page, explaining underneath it what help you wouls like.

I have reverted much of your recent editing period. You left the article in a mess of syntax errors and incomplete text. If you do not know how to use a facility please learn by using your sandbox.
I have also done my best to remove the overcategorisation you have left the article with. I am perplexed that you do not choose to reply to messages. Wikipedia is meant to be a collegiate vehicle, edited using consensus and teamwork. It is not a place where those who plough their own furrows will find much pleasure, I'm afraid. The furrow you are ploughing is leaving a welter of mess and destruction in its path. Surely you must see this when you look at the work you have created? If you make a mess please revert your own edits. Using the preview facility is highly advisable. Experienced editors use it a lot when they are not wholly sure that what they intend will produce a valid outcome.

Having seen that you are a librarian I am sure the full portfolio of tools to create not just references but citations will appeal to you. I would like to commend the cite button to you:
. It helps create full citations and often helps you do this automatically. Try it in your sandbox (not forgetting to put a {{reflist}} tag after the citation so you may see it easily when you save.
Edit your sandbox and press
. A screen with fields to fill out opens up once you choose (eg) "News". put the url of (in this case) a news item into the box to the left of the
button and then click it. Usually, but not always, much of the rest of the form is filled out from the target web page.
Once you see how it works you might be interested in studying the templates behind the screen. Have a look at {{ Cite news}} as an example of the one I just guided you towards. It has other parameters and yo may find these appropriate additions. - I've just converted a couple of the style that you used to our more formal style in Hermann Braun so you can see what I mean. I used {{ Cite web}}, added the word German in the language box and translated the pipe ("|") character to a hyphen so it didn't interfere with template syntax and that makes it all tidy and lovely. I also fiund I needed to add the publisher to that box because it didn't pick it up. Usually it does, just not today! Please do have a look and try it out. I know you'll like it.

Please do have a look at the citation tools, they help all your fellow editors, present and future. Although you find IMDb cited all over, it isn't held to be a solid source. I'd recommend finding a better one if you can. If any of the articles go on to be worked up to ' good article' status ( GA), then IMDb sources would have to be replaced. Also, please use edit summaries so that others can understand the rationale behind your changes. Some of us have one or two thousand articles on our watchlists - summaries are tremendously helpful. We work as a collaborative community, working together to build and improve the encyclopaedia. The community aspect is heart of what we do. Thanks for all your good work of the last few days. You seem to be finding your feet fast. I had some thoughts for you that you might find useful, quirks of WP that are not immediately obvious. So, here goes. Articles that appear in red are sometimes added because an editor is suggesting an article needs to be written about a subject. If I link Lloyd Park, in Walthamstow, for example, it might a nudge that this major park in London has no piece written about as yet. As we are the English language version of WP, we have a strong leaning towards using English sources and links where at all possible, especially in the external links section. (There are currently WPs 285 other languages). Wikipedia pages cannot be used to reference other WP articles. Solid citations are generally held to come from tertiary sources of fixed authorship whose facts can bear scrutiny. Such sources as blogs, forums, (IMDb) and indeed WP generally do not fly because they are ever changing and can be edited by any one at anytime. (There are always exceptions to this). External links (ELs) are not written in bold type. Sources are given as inline citations (as you have been doing with the cite tools). If you have been using a book to reference the cites 'Paulus Buscher. Das Stigma. Koblenz 1988', for example, you would list that in a 'sources' section towards the bottom of the page. In your line cite you could then just write <ref>Buscher (1998) p43</ref>. Websites are not listed in the 'Sources' section. Maybe have a neb at Anna Akhmatova ( GA) as an example of this and other formatting tweaks I have mentioned. One last thing. If you have a question about all the policies, guidelines and house style we bang on about, you can enter [[WP:____ ]] in the search box at the top of the page and the guideline will generally appear. For example [[WP:Inline citation]] or [[WP:Red link]]. It's the way all of us navigate and learn about the consensus (ish) the community has reached over the last 11 years. I don't want to overload you with info (maybe I have). I hope all this makes sense and helps to you edit happily and confidently. Thank you for your message. It's good to back from you. I can well imagine that the technology can seem quite intimidating. Our messages to you above have been trying to convey that it is not a case of 'sink or swim' but that we are here to help. I can understand your confusion in the response to your new article on Jürgen Ohlsen. As I mentioned above, certain websites that can be edited by users such as Wikipedia, IMDb and, it turns out filmportal.de, generally do not fly, as they are not held to be reliable sources. That said, you will find IMDb cited all over English Wikipedia and lots of other WPs also. Some editors are much more stringent about strong sources that others. I would advise adding any strong English language sources about Ohlsen if you can find them and removing the Wikipedia page that you have given as a reference. Google books names him in some viewable texts that you can use. We work as a community of several thousand editors, and though we work to a set of guidelines you will find that we are not always agreement. It can be difficult for new editors to get their heads around. My advice would be to hang in there and ask lots of questions. It will start to make sense after a while. I hope that helps. - I have had a root about in the Oxford Reference online, Questia, Credo and Highbeam research databases and none of them show anything about your man. He seems pretty obscure but worth digging for. By the way, if you sign your name with four tildas: ~~~~ it automatically brings up your signature and time stamp, which is helpful to all. Were the tutorials at all helpful? - I've taken the liberty of cleaning up the article a bit, in order to meet the guidelines. I added some refs. It might need a bit more twiddling as your reviewer doesn't like some of the sources that can be user-edited, but shortly the article should pass well enough. Once passed, I'd recommend sticking with the article and building it, rather than leaving it to its own devices. Now you are getting into the swing of things :) Wikipedia has a wonderful way of picking up articles that we write and other editors jump in and add, delete, enhance and improve the things we write. You;re already seeing that in the articles you have fathered here.
And now comes the next stage. At this point, unless we have things we still wish to add to the articles, the best thing to do is to keep them on our watch lists, and to move on to the next article. We watch benignly as others edit our work, and we smile as we see that they do things o make them better. If they make them worse, or if they vandalise things, we put that right, or we decide to rely on others to put that right. The main thing is that we move on.
I used the term "father" rather than "mother" for the articles we get involved with very carefully. We create life and move on. We do not nurture it, rear it, change its clothes or anything maternal. We simply father the articles and move on. The worst thing we can ever do is to become emotionally involved with an article. It will drive us nuts if we do that!
