Hi. I am trying to create a forum where various WIkiProjects can exchange ideas and information about their best ideas, efforts, methods, and accomplishments. I am the Lead Coordinator at WikiProject History. I tried to create an active exchange at WikiProject Council, but did not get very far when I tried to do so.

I would like to get some interested editors together who might be interested in helping with this idea, either with getting WikiProject Council moving again, or creating a whole new WikiProject to do so.

You can sign up to help at Wikipedia:WikiProject Editors Forum/Members. Right now, this page is a redirect to a draft in my user space; we will move it to the project space as soon as we have ten people signed up.

eventually, the goal would be to have a few people from a wide variety of WikiProjects and various topical areas, working together at WIkiProject Council, to help us create a forum and an exchange for ideas and information.

I don't always fix all of the possible Linter errors in a given page, but I try not to leave new ones behind. If you are using a script to do edits like this one, please be aware that it left behind some Linter stripped tag errors in that particular case.

@ Jonesey95: I am surprised you don't recognize me from WT:Linter :). I was of course using AWB for those, but I had some weird regexes that I ended up removing, probably after that page (when I decided I shouldn't be trying to sort arbitrary smalls on the pages of interest, just the ones wrapping references). There's also a possibility that one was one of the ones I did it manually, in which case also user error but dumber. :) (That particular case could stand with removal of the smalls in toto, not least because there is a much more efficient way to make an entire table small. I recognized your username, I just didn't remember where I had seen it amidst the many gnome/tech forums I frequent, so I didn't want to blindside you with unfamiliar techspeak. As for small tags, I, like you, am sometimes tempted to just take a flamethrower to all of them, but in the interest of avoiding drama on my talk page, I try as much as possible to preserve editors' formatting intent when de-Linting. Hi. Some editors had asked me to prepare a proposal to present to others at Wikipedia:WikiProject Council, to explain the changes that i wish to make, and to get their feedback and input, on what they think of the ideas.

Why is this actress not notable? Unlike the deletion discussion, I have included a reference ( Kalyani Natarajn: My base is home) that is from a notable source (The Hindu) and talks about her career. -- DragoMynaa

DragoMynaa, I deleted the article because it was nearly the exact same as the article that was deleted at the discussion about deletion. I have not myself made a judgement about whether the actress is notable either way (aside: administrators only assess a group consensus when using the tools). I was wondering how to include detailed technical information in addition to the English text you included. I have a talk started at Help_talk:CS1_errors#Unknown_parameter_|xxxx=_ignored .

Maybe hiding the gory details in a submenu, available to the user to click on, might work. Something like in the Visual Editor:

Hi, you have reverted the edit to Tsirelson's page. Have you looked at the referenced user page of his? I am really uncertain how one should proceed here - it is a fact that he passed away, as he wrote himself, and it is not clear to me how to confirm this "publicly" (I have confirmed with friends who saw the death certificate). This time when I turned on my computer, I read my Wikipedia notifications out of curiosity. You said that "Edit requests are for when consensus is established. Please consider advertising the change elsewhere." at Wikipedia_talk:Risk_disclaimer.

Fixing format errors that render material difficult to read. In this case, restrict the edits to formatting changes only and preserve the content as much as possible. Examples include fixing indentation levels, removing bullets from discussions that are not consensus polls or requests for comment (RfC), fixing list markup (to avoid disruption of screen readers, for instance), using <code>, <nowiki> and other technical markup to fix code samples, and providing wikilinks if it helps in better navigation. Another helpful template is {{ Reflist-talk}}, which causes <ref>...</ref>-type material to be emitted immediately instead of at the end of the entire page.

In this case, the pages are emitting an error, which, while you probably do not see, I can, and which place the pages in Category:CS1 maint: uses editors parameter. Either I can separate editors into |editor1= etc., or I can set |template-doc-demo=true, to remove them from the category. I'm colour blind which doesn't help ... certainly on this monitor ... if cs1's are showing red. If you indicate fixing cs1 error in the summary rather than clean ref ... mind you this is normally done by bot then I'm not going to launch. I'm with Izno here. Anything that ends up in a maintenance category that arises from a 'closed' discussion would, by your rules, never leave. By your rules, the number of the items in the category will grow until these 'closed' items overwhelm the number of 'fixable' items. I think that the correct 'fix' for these 'closed' items is |template-talk-demo=yes or one of its aliases (I prefer |no-cat=yes; easier to type). I use 'prevent categorization' as an edit summary.

My rules which I make up as I go along are don't change AfD audit records unless necessary to avoid "categorization errors". Its really a question of the edit summary making reasonable sense as to what is going on. "prevent categorization" doesn't quite do it for me as while it is meaningful for the edit performer it is not necessarily meaningful for the reader unless encountered at some other point (Fix error categorization would work .... and if this was being done to prevent an error with some upcoming change then a link to the proposed changed. Adding |no-cat=yes doesn't [fix] error categorization – the error categorization isn't broken; it's the cs1|2 template that is broken. To preserve the template in its broken state without changing the visual appearance of the AfD, and to remove the AfD from the maintenance category, I would add a parameter to the template that prevents the template from categorizing the AfD. If you want to know what I mean by my prevent categorization edit summary, look at my edit.

@ Trappist the monk: Thanks for the explanation but I'm skipping on detailed checking mainly as I'm trying to pay more attention to some RL stuff (like I think I have to pay someone something and cant recall who or what) and some content stuff I need to fix ... having just created a stub following a quick fix on a stub when I'm meant to have been looking at something else, though to be fair all roads seem to lead to Grand Canal Street. ... Actually on second thoughts I have twigged what you are saying and can see setting no-cat=yes would match the edit summary of "prevent categorization" (from that template) and would solve the issue; (given categorization outside the template would not be affected). (( The workflow for the uninitiated is observe "prevent categorization" summary and the associated diff should reveal the nocat=yes which is reasonably obvious to most people who would have gone this far. @ Tyw7: It was not obvious to me if that means that users thought the page needed full-protection. I semi'd the page due to those comments since I did not see a need for full-protection in the history. I do appreciate your reply to my questions at Wikipedia talk:Categories for discussion#questions about CFD process, and re-creating Category:Historic Hotels of America (deleted by CFD in 2018). I have reacted with some incredulity there, and the discussion should continue there. But i do want to understand what are the written rules relevant, and what unwritten practices may have developed, and where any of this has been discussed/developed, perhaps getting towards some changes if necessary. Mathglot, all of my changes are hand made (if there were a smarter way to work on this category of issues, I would be happy...). That specific edit was GIGO for the human brain behind the computer :). It had three names with a list that could have been all last names (assuming the implementing editor was not aware of the Wikipedia use of the Oxford comma). I speculated it might be a last name and two first names but I took a guess at the right way to do it.   Jdlrobson, Izno: Well, I'm talking about the phenomena exemplified in the images shown in the thread. AFAICT these are things that would happen in any article that uses quote boxes (and -- different problem -- block quotes near images), but I guess since my favorite article uses those so densely I get complaints once in a while. But as I keep repeating, it seems to happen only on certain platforms, possibly Android+Chrome (looks fine on iPhone+Chrome), and since the quote box problem doesn't happen with images, it would seem there's something about quote boxes that's hinky. I'm tired of hearing there's something wrong with the article when it's clear there's something wrong with the platform. E Eng 18:57, 30 May 2020 (UTC) reply

There's been discussion previously about how consistent the MOS pages are on multiple points. One party holds that the inconsistency is deliberate as it demonstrates the variance allowed. I saw your reversion to the previous edit on Template:Ruby that was making the upper text size larger, but from what I can see, so far it hasn't taken affect anywhere besides a discussion page, and no edits I make to the unaffected pages are triggering any corrections. For example, 真実(しんじつ) currently remains unaffected on this page. I'm wondering if it's either just a personal display issue or an issue with the site itself. Guy Macon You know how it works: Make a lot of bad changes and some good changes at the same time and you're likely to get reverted in total, not in part. So, do not point out good changes as if to absolve you of the bad ones.

I have no broad issue with whitespace removals between paragraphs and at line ends. I similarly do not have an issue with removing underscores in links where the behavior is obvious (at least one link separate to this reversion it was not obvious to me would work with your replacement as opposed to the source).

Is clearly a deliberate error given the line immediately preceding: nor N this (leave blank lines between list items):.

Next, "<strong>Error</strong> is a clear copy-paste from the source given the surrounding validator, where bold and strong are not equivalent (or rather, are never equivalent; both have semantic meaning and bold is wrong).

The remaining changes are some variant of each of these and there is usually a pretty strong context clue in the visible text making it obvious in each case that your changes were wrong. A hidden comment in any of these cases is clearly and obviously unnecessary.

Generally, a visual assessment is insufficient to make the replacements you were making. If you do not understand the semantics assigned to each HTML element, you should not make edits of this sort. I'm not sure the removal of the Chinese name of every editor of each cleaned cite was necessary? Referring to Chinese people by only the transliteration (without tones even!) of their names gives readers basically nothing to go on when searching for them, and I note you removed links to zh.wiki where the editors had pages there. Do you think there's any way you could reinstate some of that information? Or point me to like the guideline page where we don't allow non-Latin characters in references? (Full disclosure I added all that stuff I'm pretty sure).

Folly Mox, basically, one name only should go into each editor field. I don't have any real preference whether it's the hanzi or the Latin version. As for the links to the foreign wiki for the people, that's not forbidden per se (and even is allowed for), but linking offwiki doesn't quite scratch the itch that we use citations for, which is to identify and/or obtain a copy of the work. Folly Mox per some unrelated discussions, you should use |author-mask=/|editor-mask= if you want to have both the script and Latin-scripted version, and then to provide whichever in the source as the proper |first=/|last=. That might look like:

AldezD keeps removing my changes in The Cube (game show) and Who Wants to Be a Millionaire (American game show) articles. I have corrected two mistakes in numbers of episodes. One od them (The Cube) is obvious–you only have to add some numbers in the “Transmissions” section (they add up to 84, not 86). The second (WWtBaM) is based on the twentieth minute of Game Show Hall of Fame (mentioned in the reference; uploaded on YouTube), where one of the creators of the show said “363 episodes”, not “369”. Hi Izno - I wanted to see if anything could be done to restore the Paul Hobby Page. This is an article I created, as a Houstonian with an interest in the Hobby family (In Houston, the Hobby name can be found everywhere - the Hobby Airport, Hobby Center for Performing Arts, Hobby School for Public Affairs, etc.) and I just noticed that it was deleted a little over a month ago due to notability. As a Houstonian, I might disagree that Paul is not a Notable Figure - given the expansive presence of the family name in Houston.

I also note that a number of his other family members have pages as well including his father - /info/en/?search=William_P._Hobby_Jr., and grandparents both have pages (William P Hobby Sr and Oveta Culp Hobby).

Lastly, in addition to founding his own private equity firm - Paul Hobby has served on boards at well known large Houston/Texas firms making him a notable figure in the business community (NYSE: NGR - $8B market cap), Amegy Bank (sold to Zion, now a $6B market cap company), Flotek (NYSE:FTK - a firm with a strong link across the oil and gas sector in Houston) and Stewart Title (NYSE: STC - a $1.2B market cap company).

IP68, you may start a draft at Draft:Paul Hobby if you please. The sources from the article lack independence or a significant treatment of the topic or both, so I do not see much a point to starting from the article in question.

@ TheDJ: Probably don't need to ping me on my talk page. ;) Have you looked at Module:Arguments? That will give you a convenient table to work with from the frame, and there's no reason you couldn't subsequently print that table (key and value) in whatever way you prefer. I guess you're familiar with it since you poke around?

One thought that I think is true based on memory is that a module can't know the difference between an unnamed parameter and its numeric form. I also think a module can't know what order the parameters are called in besides the numeric parameters. And neither 'simply', even if it is possible. For example, I do not think you can print {{template name|lorem|3=ipsum|content=dolor|sit}} exactly based on what you get from the frame (I think a module sees 1=lorem, 2=sit, 3=ipsum, content=dolor in the table and not either lorem, 3=ipsum, content=dolor, sit or 1=lorem, 3=ipsum, content=dolor, 2=sit).

@ Beetstra: The double equals was not it of course. Template:Search currently works. Basically it gets around the blacklist by moving the 'query' part of the string later. I don't know why it works.
