Infrogmation: I was hoping that you could help me out....could you be so kind to provide me with the title of the 1898 book where you scanned the 10Kmiles.jpg image of the "eagle cartoon" that references the Spanish American war. I am working on a textbook, and have been trying to find this, and so far have been unsuccessful. I would appreciate if you could provide me with that information. many thanks. The Fourth of July, or bust, Barnstar | ||
I award you this Barnstar for your solid, witty, creative, supportive, learned, timely, cheerful, eloquent, and/or otherwise generally great contributions on U. S. National Historic Landmarks' articles. Yippee o yay,
we pretty much met our goal of a well-started article for each of
2,442 NHLs by today! Thanks, and have a great Fourth of July! -- Doncram, 4 July 2008 |
Thank you for your contributions of new photos for List of NHLs in LA during the June 11-July 4 period of this cleanup drive! I am so glad you have just joined wp:NRHP, too. Hopefully you will post new photo additions and new articles within the boxes on the wp:NRHP main page, and enjoy more interaction with other NRHPers. I am grateful also to you for your responsive, solid, timely, yeomanic (is that a word?) and artistic contributions of pics for List of NHLs in LA, and other development of articles, especially when i was spending virtual time there in January. Your contributions were inspiring to me, encouraging me towards completing out NHL lists for every state, now largely accomplished. Cheers, doncram ( talk) 18:10, 4 July 2008 (UTC)
Hi, thanks for the recognition for LA work! and also the note on the church in New Orleans. Will move material from my article to that one. My search didn't turn that up. There are two disambiguation pages also on St. Augustine/St. Augustine's Churches - shouldn't they be combined? I'm not sure how to do that.-- Parkwells ( talk) 16:30, 9 July 2008 (UTC)
Hello there. I am so delighted to see that you are taking requests for New Orleans photos. I understand that you may not have the time to do this, but hey, it can’t hurt to ask. I have written an article about a performer, Andy Offutt Irwin whose quote, “Don’t be afraid to be amazing” is the message of a mural by artist Susan Guevara at the Children’s Resource Center branch library. Well, I talk about it in the article, [1] but I would like to include a picture of the mural and/or any thing that shows his quote but I’m several hundred miles away. The branch is in uptown New Orleans; link to address and hours. I found a photo of the work here [2], (if you look closely, you see the quote in the mural with the cat playing a trumpet) but it is not free use, of course. Thanks,

Thank you so much, it looks great. I have added a Fair Use to the image and added the image to the article. Let me know if there is anything else I need to do. I really, really, really appreciate you making the effort to get this picture for me. A Softer Answer ( talk) 19:19, 30 July 2008 (UTC)
Thanks for trying to help, but it's like talking to a brick wall. BTW, you seem an appropriate person to ask as any other... As of late, I've had a lot of problems with people tagging their own images for deletion at upload (with the option "fair use image of living person/existing building"). Clearly some people don't see the red flag and continue on their merry way thinking there's no problem. Then two days later (or sooner in some cases) when the image gets deleted under I7 they complain that they never got any notification. Is there a way to make the warning a little more prominent (maybe a whole new window like when you're going to overwrite an existing image)? And what's a more appropriate place to discuss this? Melesse ( talk) 01:56, 12 July 2008 (UTC)
Good hello, I've encountered a problem at Commons and hope you might be able to render some advice. There is an image file, Image:DSCN6573 a 1.JPG, that was once part of a defunct porn site, I think it was city-feet.ru or .de. Someone took many (hundreds upon hundreds) of the photos from that site (and another one called streetfeet), stripped the logos off and uploaded them to Flkr and various image indexes. User:ManiacMikey, who seems to have some issues with images, uploaded it claiming to have taken the image himself and releasing it into the public domain. I tagged it for a speedy deletion as a copyvio and have been asked to provide evidence. A quick Gsearch turns up a forum where the issue is discussed (in general, no mention of Wikipedia or this specific pic or user) and links are provided to indexes of some of the other pics but not the image in question. What would be the best way to submit what little evidence there is. Cheers. L0b0t ( talk) 04:04, 12 July 2008 (UTC)
Thanks for your work on the Voodoo Music Experience page. The article still needs lots of work, as you cans see. It was quite the shock to see my own creative commons licensed photo [3] used in the article. Haha! Eclectek C T 20:07, 13 July 2008 (UTC)
Thank you for helping. I think the page title really should be plain Snug Harbor and all the other Snug Harbors should have location tags. Reason is, this one is something of a big deal among architecture buffs, and is gaining a collection of musuems that make it merit the name, Snug Harbor. The other problem is that I cannot find the page. I can only find the New Orleans one. Elan26 ( talk) 23:43, 13 July 2008 (UTC)Elan26

No particular reason; it struck me as a folk song, and when I started the article I knew virtually nothing about it. I created the article because I ran across an album on iTunes that I grew up listening to and this song was on the album. But any insight you have is welcome and wholly uncontested! See you around!--Esprit15d • talk • contribs 21:12, 18 July 2008 (UTC)
I saw your article while on new page patrol. While I see no problem with the article being appropriate for Wikipedia, my concern is that the article title might be misleading to some: the idea that title conveyed to me was that the article would be about words used as synonyms for jazz. Though I could be alone feeling that way, could you give this concern a little thought? Blanchardb- Me• MyEars• MyMouth-timed 12:09, 20 July 2008 (UTC)
Hi Infrogmation. I left the message below for User:Ed Poor, then noticed you are also one of the still-active early adopters.
I circuitously found you through WT:RFA, just as I was working on a Wikiversity project which could use someone who was "there near the beginning" of Wikipedia. The project is Ethical Management of the English Language Wikipedia, started a week and a half ago by some very disgruntled Wikipedians. While I'm not exactly on their side (quite the opposite in at least two respects), I have been working with them to prevent wars (of both the flame and edit variety), and have found quite a bit of it interesting food for thought.
If you have time, I'd really like to get some first-hand accounts of how Wikipedia was "managed" early on, before the development of the current system of policies and other structures. I've been with Wikiversity since it's beginning, but while I know at least some of our policies and other structures were designed to avoid some of the entrenched problems of Wikipedia (for a good example, compare
WP:RFA to
WV:RFC, but honestly I don't know how the problems came about. "OR" is permitted on WV, so we don't need you to write a billion footnotes: just relating your impressions and experiences would be fine. I threw together an
outline this morning, at least lining out some of what I personally would like to learn about :-).
By the way, I left a note about it, but don't be suprised if these guys are (perhaps justifiably) skittish when new folks arrive, as they have been (perhaps justifiably) the target of a lot of (perhaps justifiable) anger from Wikipedians and others. They seem to be feeling a bit more confident now (in the positive sense), so hopefully the energies will more and more move towards teaching and learning rather than wars and espionage :-).
I also asked Ed to have a look at how Wikiversity's policy structure compares to the early Wikipedia, particularly in how we select our custodians (Custodian = Admin in Wikiversitese), and would be interested in your thoughts there as well. There's also been some discussions about a cross-project effort with Wikiversity and Wikibooks to come up with a "History of Wikipedia and Wikimedia"... Wikiversity's initial role would be to collect first-hand accounts in it's "OR=OK" capacity, while the Wikibooks side would involve a referenced textbook. -- SB_Johnny | talk 14:04, 20 July 2008 (UTC)

While the tracked grades of the CPRR and UPRR were joined with the driving of the Last Spike at Promontory Summit, Utah, on May 10, 1869, the line was not deemed to have not meet the requirements of the Pacific Railroad Acts of 1862 and 1864 until six months later on November 9, 1869. This date of completion was established by a decision of the U.S. Supreme court in the case of Union Pacific Railroad vs. United States (99 U.S. 402). (See The Official "Date of Completion" of the Transcontinental Railroad under the Provisions of the Pacific Railroad Act of 1862, et seq., as Established by the Supreme Court of the United States to be November 6, 1869. (99 U.S. 402) 1879)
The Eastern terminus of the Pacific Railroad was not Omaha, Nebraska, which is located on the Western side of the Missouri River, but was actually Council Bluffs, Iowa, which is its sister city situated on the eastern side of the Missouri River directly opposite Omaha even though Council Bluffs and Omaha were not physically connected by rail until almost four years AFTER the first through trains ran over the Pacific route when the UPRR's Missouri River Railroad Bridge was completed and opened on March 25, 1873. (See Executive Order of Abraham Lincoln, President of the United States, Fixing the Point of Commencement of the Pacific Railroad at Council Bluffs, Iowa. dated March 7, 1864. 38th Congress, 1st Session SENATE Ex. Would you please show me an IP within the 59.183.0.0/18 range that was used for more than 24 hours by the same person to explain your modification of my block? What was the reason that made this necessary without contacting me first, and why is it beneficial to the project to block innocent users for almost 6 weeks when this IP is no longer used by Fangusu? -- Oxymoron 83 08:50, 6 September 2008 (UTC)
Small question... but with regard to the above, what is to be made of this pair of edits:
http://en.wikipedia.org/?title=User_talk:Melesse&diff=prev&oldid=238277401
http://en.wikipedia.org/?title=User_talk:Melesse&diff=next&oldid=238277401
Since this looks like the DIP either "borrowing" a blocked editor's name, or it is that editor evading the block with thumb to nose.
And the IP's edits currently: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Special:Contributions/59.183.5.11

Thanks for uploading Image:FolliesBergereCostumesBW.jpg. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, then a link to the website from which it was taken, together with a restatement of that website's terms of use of its content, is usually sufficient information. However, if the copyright holder is different from the website's publisher, their copyright should also be acknowledged.
If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. Unsourced and untagged images may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If the image is copyrighted under a non-free license (per Wikipedia:Fair use) then the image will be deleted 48 hours after 11:47, 11 October 2008 (UTC). If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Jessegillan ( talk) 11:47, 11 October 2008 (UTC)

The image SanCristobalChisChurchFascade.jpg is a candidate to be copied to the Wikimedia Commons. When you uploaded this image, you licensed it for use under the GNU Free Documentation License (GFDL). On behalf of the Wikipedia and Commons communities, thank you. However, the GFDL requires that reproductions of the image (and any other GFDL-licenced works), must be accompanied by the full text of the GFDL. The GFDL is intended more for documentation and not images, so downstream re-users may be hindered by additional restrictions of the GFDL which may not work well on the use of one image.
Before I copy this image to the Commons, I wanted to ask whether you would be willing to multilicense your work under an additional license, such as a Creative Commons licence. Creative Commons licences, such as the Attribution Share-Alike license provide a similar copyleft permission to the GFDL, but without some of its requirements such as the distribution of the licence text. All you need to do, is place the additional license tag alongside your current license. Users can choose between which one they want to use the image under. There are many free licenses accepted on Wikipedia and Commons which can provide freedoms similar to the GFDL, but without some of its requirements.
You are under no obligation whatsoever to alter the license. Doing so merely cooperates with those members of the community who believe that multilicensing your work can ease the reuse of images outside of Wikipedia.
If you use a GFDL license tag which requires distribution of Wikipedia's general disclaimer (indicated by "Subject to disclamiers" in the template), it is also suggested that you switch it to one which does not apply them.
Whether or not you choose to dual-license your work, thank you for your consideration.

Please see my recent note in Discussion on the Mae West page re references. An editor named Wildhartlivie watches this article like a hawk along with some friends like User:Pinkadelica. They insist on having the unsightly reference template at the top of the article no matter how many references that are put in. It seems to me that there is some sort of personal policing of this article going on and that certain editors are hell-bent on controlling the content 100%. Reading correspondence between Wildhartlivie and Pinkadelica on their talk pages supports that suspicion (not very nice reading either, by the way). Its this allowed? I thought I made a reasonable point in Discussion just now, but it only took 4 minutes for Wilhardlivie to intercede again. We need an objective administrator's help here. Thanks for uploading File:TheWinnerRecord.jpg.
If the image is copyrighted under a non-free license (per Wikipedia:Fair use) then the image will be deleted 48 hours after 06:48, 4 January 2009 (UTC). If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Magog the Ogre ( talk) 06:48, 4 January 2009 (UTC)

Why did you remove my {{Failed verification}} tags? The presentation in the passage added here is a very confused and negatively slanted interpretation-cum-embellishment of the story neutrally presented in the cited source. I think this passage should actually be completely removed as being unsalvageable drivel.
And why did you revert -- without any rationale in the edit summary -- my splitting of the section "Production" into two sections "Pre-production" and "Production"? Almost everything related under "Production" does not refer to the production phase of this film, but to its pre-production.
Finally, perhaps you disagree with my harsh judgement "inconsequential factoid" for the sentence "Only 6 of the 7 strikes by lightening the old man received are shown in the film." But did you really think this (for people who did not watch the movie quite incomprehensible) sentence enhances the article? And what does it have to do with "Production"? Someone else later re-removed the sentence. Perhaps you want to revert him/her too. 88.233.38.17 ( talk) 23:14, 26 January 2009 (UTC)

The text of scan of the full page "Yellow Kid" is ... well, almost unreadable. The .jpg file format is simply inappropriate (due to lossy compression artifacts). Can you please replace this with a scan in PNG format (PNG uses a lossless compression method, so preserves the details of the scan, especially text, MUCH better than a JPEG file. 76.243.106.37 ( talk) 08:46, 29 January 2009 (UTC)
Infrogmation, I've had to point out to you before that you were making blocks outside of the blocking policy, and it seems I need to do it again. Please do not block editors after they've made one edit, received a warning, and stopped. Blocks are not punishment, and if there are no further edits, they should not be blocked. Also, as I've pointed out before, there is no exception to the blocking policy with respect to the Atlantic Records article. If somebody vandalizes the article, warn them, and if they continue, then you block them. Blocks are not the first step. Please reread the blocking policy and try to comply with it. Hi, I know nothing of Wikimedia Commons; it's like a maze to me. But, I keep finding biography pages, (here) without any photos. It finally drove me crazy, and I asked the -what? 5 people I know on the entire Wikipedia for help uploading, after a whole week of calming people's copyright fears since their photos can only be BY and CC on Flickr. Apparently, the two times I asked someone for help, was too much, and he became angry. Mostly, I want to pick up these needed photos, and can't figure out the upload thing from Flickr, and need to know if you know anyone who would help. I have requests for maybe 20 photos left, (most that I originally uploaded were either mine, or the owner uploaded themselves to Commons. Would you consider A) showing me how Commons works (I mean, I found there, under Yusuf Islam an audio of Saddam Hussein telling his life story, and there's still a Pete Yorn pic with the Dixie Chicks there! Currently, there are about 6 photos from Flickr waiting for upload and I don't want to lose that chance of getting permission for this Wikipedia. Someone suggested that you might be able to help. Hi there! I'm posting to inform you of an ongoing discussion at Wikipedia talk:Bureaucrat removal, which is of relevance to you as an en.wiki bureaucrat. The discussion centres around whether bureaucrat status should be considered a 'lifetime' appointment like administrators, or whether bureaucrats should be subject to periodic reconfirmation in a manner more like the stewards. There is also consideration for a separate re-evaluation of the status of those bureaucrats who were promoted in the early days of wikipedia, when the standards at RfB were significantly lower than they are currently, and whether such users still retain the explicit trust of the community.
As an "inactive bureaucrat" (one who has not performed a 'crat action in the past year), we're particularly keen to hear your thoughts on these issues; in particular the following:
Your thoughts on these, and any other comments you may have, would be very much appreciated. We have set up a section on the discussion page, Wikipedia talk:Bureaucrat removal#'Crat comments, for such responses.

Thanks,

Thank you for helping. I think the page title really should be plain Snug Harbor and all the other Snug Harbors should have location tags. The other problem is that I cannot find the page. I can only find the New Orleans one. Elan26 ( talk) 23:43, 13 July 2008 (UTC)Elan26

I do not think that this article satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and have explained why at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Time Cube (5th nomination). Your opinions on the matter are welcome at that same discussion page; also, you are welcome to edit the article to address these concerns. Thank you for your time. I am working simultaenously on English Wikipedia and Swedish Wikipedia, uploaded about 40 photos here on Eng Wiki and then had to upload them all again on Commons because Swe Wiki woudn't not take them otherwise. Is what you're saying that you are now going to delete all the pictures uploaded and put in here because I had to put duplicates on Commons? Please explain how that will benefit Wikipedia! And what I can do about it. Thanx EmilEikS ( talk) 01:58, 1 November 2008 (UTC)

We're going to be having our first Mississippi meetup next month, and I would love it if you'd like to come out! A few of us will be staying overnight, so if you feel up to it, we could have a meet and greet that night and then breakfast the next morning and talk about Wikipedia and everyone's areas of expertise. Would you please help or forward this to someone who can? EmilEikS ( talk) 02:10, 21 November 2008 (UTC)

Thanks for uploading File:TheWinnerRecord.jpg.

Thanks, - auburnpilot talk 15:26, 1 February 2009 (UTC)
What should I do?-- leahtwosaints ( talk) 18:59, 4 February 2009 (UTC)

Many thanks in advance, Happy‑ melon 23:57, 22 February 2009 (UTC)
