Replaceable fair use Image:OrrinHIngramII.jpg

Replaceable fair use
Replaceable fair use

Thanks for uploading Image:OrrinHIngramII.jpg. I noticed the description page specifies that the media is being used under a claim of fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails our first non-free content criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed media could reasonably be found or created that provides substantially the same information. If you believe this media is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the media description page and edit it to add {{ di-replaceable fair use disputed}}, without deleting the original replaceable fair use template.
  2. On the image discussion page, write the reason why this image is not replaceable at all.

Alternatively, you can also choose to replace this non-free media by finding freely licensed media of the same subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or similar) media under a free license, or by taking a picture of it yourself.

If you have uploaded other non-free media, consider checking that you have specified how these images fully satisfy our non-free content criteria. You can find a list of description pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that even if you follow steps 1 and 2 above, non-free media which could be replaced by freely licensed alternatives will be deleted 2 days after this notification (7 days if uploaded before 13 July 2006), per our non-free content policy. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Do you want to opt out of receiving this notice? Rettetast ( talk) 14:53, 1 May 2008 (UTC) reply

Lake Pontchartrain

Hello Infrogmation. Sorry if it seemed like I was understating the toll of Katrina. I, like you, am painfully aware of the storm's consequences. My edit summary (in which is used the term "exaggeration") was in reference to the concern that human corpses were a source of pollution in Lake Pontchartrain (principally as a biohazard). This same misconception was common following the Indian Ocean tsunami of 2004. Further, the citation does not support the claim. Thanks for the note. Kindest regards, AlphaEta 02:29, 3 May 2008 (UTC) reply

Hi Infrogmation, I was wondering if you could help User:Dumarest with an image issue. In February, I deleted Image:Bridget moynahan int.jpg from here because I was (now I'm not so sure) a copy of commons:Image:Bridget Moynahan.jpg. You deleted that image from commons a few days ago. Since you can see both images, could you (a) verify that I didn't mess up in my deletion here and (b) help Dumarest if it is what I think that his attempts at Image:Bridgetmoynahan.jpg are. Thanks for much! -- Ricky81682 ( talk) 09:08, 4 May 2008 (UTC) reply

Okay, I checked and the three deleted images are identical. The one I deleted on Commons said "she has informed me that the image may be freely used on Wikipedia provided that copyright is indicated and her site is identified." This seems Wikipedia specific permission, not a free license as is required for Wikimedia Commons. (Eg, the attribution requirement would be fine, but if there is no permission for reuse under the same terms outside of Wikipedia, it is not free licensed.) If the copyright holder gives permision for it to free licensed (see Commons:Licensing for details of acceptable licenses), a permission email may be sent via Commons:OTRS. Does this answer the question? Cheers, -- Infrogmation ( talk) 18:04, 4 May 2008 (UTC) reply

Reverts to "Zodiac" Pages

I see you reverted five edits regarding "speedy deletion" and other deletion notices. Whenever such a notice is put up, you're not supposed to just revert the edits especially when there are legitimate notability questions. 92.0.34.8 ( talk) 19:45, 6 May 2008 (UTC) reply

From spot checking, I saw you put speedy deletion notices on articles which had been in existance for years and which have numerous other articles linking to them. The additional fact that you were an anon ip with no other edits suggested to me your speedy deletion requests were frivolous. In any case, I saw nothing about the articles to make them obvious speedy candidates. If you seriously think the articles should be deleted, I suggest you list them at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion with an explanation of why you think they should be deleted. Hope this helps, -- Infrogmation ( talk) 23:17, 6 May 2008 (UTC) reply

An explanation isn't needed, they're obvious speedy delete candidates due to them not specifying anything that satisfied notability criteria for bands. May I ask to assume good faith also rather then shrugging them off as "frivolous". Thanks. 92.0.34.8 ( talk) 17:18, 7 May 2008 (UTC) reply

I was working on this around the time of the great debate over the article title. On glancing over it now, it seems to me to be a good example of an article that has gotten lower in quality over time. It seems to have an awful lot of soft spots. Is that just me? Speedy deletion of Image:PhilaTownHallSmall.jpg

New Orleans pics

Hi. Hey, I noticed u visited Gallier House and some others listed on List of National Historic Landmarks in Louisiana. I wonder if you could take and add pics for Gallier House and the few other New Orleans ones? Cheers, doncram ( talk) 03:11, 2 June 2008 (UTC) reply

I'm happy to take photo requests in New Orleans. Time of fullfillment will vary, and I'm afraid I haven't been able to take leasurely walks around the Quarter much recently. Still, I hope I can swing by the Gallier House briefly to take a few exerior shots soon. Yes, that's an important gap in our illustrations! Feel free to give me a list of things you'd like a pic of around New Orleans. Cheers, -- Infrogmation ( talk) 03:45, 2 June 2008 (UTC) reply

It would be great if you could photograph any of those and upload to those articles and the overall list-article. Cheers, doncram ( talk) 00:02, 3 June 2008 (UTC) reply
I was able to take and upload a few pix of Gallier House, I just added a link from the article to the Commons category. I can't always promise such quick service, but things worked out for me to stop by briefly with my camera today. Please note I DID take pics of the Cotton Exchange; the one illustrating the article is mine, and there is a link to a few others at Commons. If there is some aspect of the building I missed which you think I could take a useful photo of on a return visit, let me know. I'm not sure how I missed getting pix of the Louisiana State Bank when I was taking other photos on that block of Royal! I should be able to get pix of at least some of that list within the next couple weeks at most. (I'm not quite sure about the tugboat, but the rest shouldn't be too hard to get by.) Cheers, -- Infrogmation ( talk) 00:20, 3 June 2008 (UTC) reply
Thanks the Gallier House pic looks great. And it was my mistake about New Orleans Cotton Exchange Building, i see it is your color pic in place, just with somewhat muted tones as the building looks like. Hello there. I am so delighted to see that you are taking requests for New Orleans photos. I understand that you may not have the time to do this, but hey, it can’t hurt to ask. I have written an article about a performer, Andy Offutt Irwin whose quote, “Don’t be afraid to be amazing” is the message of a mural by artist Susan Guevara at the Children’s Resource Center branch library. Well, I talk about it in the article, [1] but I would like to include a picture of the mural and/or any thing that shows his quote but I’m several hundred miles away. The branch is in uptown New Orleans; link to address and hours. I found a photo of the work here [2], (if you look closely, you see the quote in the mural with the cat playing a trumpet) but it is not free use, of course. Thanks,

A Softer Answer ( talk) 19:58, 10 July 2008 (UTC) reply

  • Hi. I know where that library is (I already have a couple of photos of the exterior in the NOPL gallery on Commons), and could probably stop by there sometime before the end of next week if you ask. However any photo I'd take showing a recent artwork of a living artist like this would be a "derivative work", as the artist still holds copyright to the work, not me as a photographer. If the work of art is being discussed in an article, I believe you can make a "fair use rationale" to use an image to illustrate that article (see Wikipedia:Non-free content for details). If you ask, I can take a photo of the mural, but understand unfortunately it can't be free licensed without the consent of the artist, who remains the copyright holder. Thanks, -- Infrogmation ( talk) 20:43, 10 July 2008 (UTC) reply

Orphaned non-free media (Image:DorothyLamour2.jpg)

Thanks for uploading Image:DorothyLamour2.jpg. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the " my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BJBot ( talk) 07:06, 2 June 2008 (UTC) reply

NOPL

Hi. I wanted to direct you to some information about NOPL, some of which might be useful for the New Orleans Public Library article, but which I won't use on Wikipedia because it's original research of mine. The history page on the Hubbell Library support Web site is mostly about the Hubbell Branch, of course, but there's a little bit about racial segregation in the library system and a mention of low funding. Help yourself, and I'll let you know when there's a longer downloadable pdf version with endnotes.

On a minor note, the Cita Dennis Hubbell Branch paragraph in the Wikipedia article says that the branch was "closed by Hurricane Betsy in 1965". In fact I wrote that myself, incorrectly. The above-mentioned history argues otherwise, but again I won't edit that myself because of WP:NOR. Thanks!

Thanks for the reply. Sorry, I forgot you're not here in town! I corrected the location of the old "downtown" branch. I already have an old photo of it in the NOPL category on Commons. I might have taken a photo of the Dryades Branch building on an earlier Central City photo trip, but I'm not sure. I didn't find the address with a quick google search. Effects of Hurricane Katrina in New Orleans GA Sweeps Review: On Hold

As part of the WikiProject Good Articles, we're doing sweeps to go over all of the current GAs and see if they still meet the GA criteria and I'm specifically going over all of the "Meteorology and atmospheric sciences" articles. I have reviewed Effects of Hurricane Katrina in New Orleans and believe the article currently meets the majority of the criteria and should remain listed as a Good article. In reviewing the article, I have found there are some issues that may need to be addressed, and I'll leave the article on hold for seven days for them to be fixed. I have left this message on your talk page since you have significantly edited the article (based on using this article history tool). Please consider helping address the several points that I listed on the talk page of the article, which shouldn't take too long to fix with the assistance of multiple editors. I have also left messages on the talk pages for other editors and related WikiProjects to spread the workload around some. If you have any questions, let me know on my talk page and I'll get back to you as soon as I can. -- Nehrams2020 ( talk) 21:04, 12 June 2008 (UTC) reply

Rob Couhig

Greetings Infrogmation. I happened to wander over this here Rob Couhig page just by following articles written by User:Billy Hathorn (whom I encountered on the Mel and Norma Gabler page whilst looking up textbook-controversies and saw had been prompted re NPOV several times). Anyway, having read the Couhig article and immediately thought it was somewhat of a fan's eye view, I saw on the talkpage that you had posted an NPOV concern. I've added my own opinion re that and requested that perhaps someone with a more than minimal knowledge of LA politics may wish to go over it (but, failing that, yes, I'll have a go). So you seemed the ideal editor to contact re. it all. If it does come down to me cleaning it up, what would be the best places to start looking for background info/citations etc - a newspaper like the Times-Picayune maybe? Local news afiliates? Thanks and all the best. Plutonium27 ( talk) 17:27, 21 June 2008 (UTC) reply

Response to your "Speedy Deletion" notice

Image link: [3] Hoping you can clear this up. Wikiwatcher1 ( talk) 01:44, 29 June 2008 (UTC) reply

I think Wikipedia:Image use policy and Wikipedia:Non-free content are pretty clear. Non-free images are only to be used sparingly and in limited circumstances when no free alternative images are availible. Please keep this in mind. Don't take it personally. Cheers, -- Infrogmation ( talk) 05:27, 29 June 2008 (UTC) reply

Thank you for your speedy response. However, your response failed to deal with any of the issues brought up in the dispute box, as you clearly felt comfortable simply brushing them aside as "not relevent to this discussion, not relevent to correct here." You brushed them aside even after I rewrote my original comments as you requested and despite a very factual list of questionable activities by you.

You might want to reconsider whether the activities of an administrator like yourself, suggestive of "bad faith," is enough to warrant an honest reply to a list of specific facts. Wikiwatcher1 ( talk) 19:00, 30 June 2008 (UTC) reply

Anything you think I might not be impartial about, I encourage you to get third party opinions about (and 4th, 5th, and 6th if you wish). I confined my reply on the image discussion to questions relevent to the image use. The parts of what you wrote that seemed to be about me rather than about the image I replied to on your talk page. I've pointed out Wikipedia image use policies to you already; trying to improve Wikipedia in line with those policies was my motivation. It seems to me you have misinterpreteted as some sort of personal attack. I have zero interest in getting into any sort of grudge match with you. Check out Wikipedia:Dispute resolution and related pages linked there if you think appropriate (though I think it would waste the time of both of us that would be better spend improving Wikipedia content in line with Wikipedia policies). Thanks. -- Infrogmation ( talk) 19:48, 30 June 2008 (UTC) reply
  • I never said or implied you were not being "impartial." If you think that was the message please point it out and I'll modify my post;
  • You ignored all of the listed issues on the dispute form;
  • There was no mention anywhere of your "personal attack," so I'm not sure what you're referring to. If you assume that anyone questioning your reasons for a speedy deletion of an image as a "personal attack" on them, then I disagree with the logic;
  • I agree it would be counter-productive to take something this minor to Dispute Resolution. I'm sure your intentions are fair and that of all the thousands of contributions you've made, this is one of many that are similar. Maybe you can list some more "speedy deletion" notices you've posted for similar reasons, since images seems to be one of your focuses as administrator.

That would certainly go a long way to showing fair and impartial behavior. Thanks in advance. Wikiwatcher1 ( talk) 20:22, 30 June 2008 (UTC) reply

NPS NHL photo contest

Hi Infrogmation, hope u r well. i have enjoyed seeing ur occasional additions of pics to List of NHLs in LA. There is a National Park Service photo competition, with submission deadline Monday for postmark or for email submission, which i just learned about yesterday. See Wikipedia talk:WikiProject National Register of Historic Places#June 30 email deadline for 2008 NPS NHL photo contest. Submit a pic or two by email! And, i would appreciate it greatly if you could identify your own pics, at Wikipedia:WikiProject National Register of Historic Places/PhotoCreditsForNHLsByState, in the right-most column. It would be most helpful, ASAP, if you could i.d. which pics are yours. Also, by the way, if you are not already a member of wp:NRHP, you oughta join! doncram ( talk) 01:22, 30 June 2008 (UTC) reply

Thanks for letting me know about the project. Looks like 16 photos I've taken illustrating the Louisiana list at present. I think I'm a little late to apply to the contest, but I'll be looking over the project page in more detail later. Cheers, -- Infrogmation ( talk) 02:07, 30 June 2008 (UTC) reply

I'm happy to take photo requests in New Orleans. Time of fullfillment will vary, and I'm afraid I haven't been able to take leasurely walks around the Quarter much recently. Still, I hope I can swing by the Gallier House briefly to take a few exerior shots soon. Yes, that's an important gap in our illustrations! (I'm not quite sure about the tugboat, but the rest shouldn't be too hard to get by.) Hello there.

Thanks!

I got the references to show here. The last ref, which called an earlier one, wasn't closed. Lvklock ( talk) 13:56, 26 June 2008 (UTC) reply

  • I never said or implied you were not being "impartial." If you think that was the message please point it out and I'll modify my post;
  • You ignored all of the listed issues on the dispute form;
  • There was no mention anywhere of your "personal attack," so I'm not sure what you're referring to. If you assume that anyone questioning your reasons for a speedy deletion of an image as a "personal attack" on them, then I disagree with the logic;

    • I replied on your talk page. I hope we can both get back to spending our typing time improving Wikimedia content soon. Thanks. -- Infrogmation ( talk) 00:31, 1 July 2008 (UTC) reply
  • I received your reply and have responded. Wikiwatcher1 ( talk) 01:30, 1 July 2008 (UTC) reply
