In the 2008 Fourth of July, or Bust, drive in wp:NRHP to "well-start" an article for each National Historic Landmark, we "pretty much" met our goal!

First, we created an article for every NHL red-link in the 54 NHL list-articles by area (50 states, plus the District of Columbia, Philadelphia, New York City, and other). During the drive, from June 11 to July 4, we cleared 113 red-links in: List of NHLs in MD, List of NHLs in MO, List of NHLs in NM, List of NHLs in OH, List of NHLs in SD, List of NHLs in TX, and List of NHLs in Other.

Second, we reviewed them all, checking for basic problems: needing NHL mention in the article; needing infobox; needing NHL summary webpage reference; and thorniest of all, needing breakout of a separate NHL article out of an article about a person, school, town; and more.

Third, in the process, we fixed most basic problems. We went from just 4 lists having none, to 34 state lists verified as cleaned up. As of July 4, however, a surprising 20%, 493 NHLs in 20 area-lists, still have one or more such problems to clear.

Fourth, we added lots of photos. As of July 4, there are 1,769 illustrated articles, including 6 fully illustrated NHL lists: List of NHLs in OR -- 16 NHLs, each with an image, List of NHLs in MN -- 22, List of NHLs in WA -- 23 NHLs, List of NHLs in AL -- 36 NHLs, List of NHLs in RI -- 44 NHLs, List of NHLs in NYC -- 108 NHLs. On May 12, there had been 1, 502. Many of the 267 additions came as part of this drive.

Thanks to everyone who helped, or who set the stage by developing multiple NHL articles previously! Current NRHP members specifically active in the drive were:

Others NRHP members whose prior work on NHLs helped set the stage include:

Also, Non-NRHP members deserving thanks include:

  • KudzuVine, for adding hundreds of historic photos before and during drive;
  • Circeus, for a timely complaint about merged NHLs needing splitting;
  • Staib, for developing List of NHLs in CT;
  • SEWilco, for generating starter state list-tables;
  • Bedford, for developing multiple DYKs on NHL sites; and
  • Pegship, for sorting!

Please let me know, or be bold and add, any deserving others.

It's a privilege to work with you all. Have a great 4th of July! -- Doncram
