Good sir. Some rather nasty accusations were made against me over at the Starfleet FAC, in particular that in the past nominations I went through and deleted other people's objections without consent. Your support as a witness that this is a lie would be very much appreciated. We have one person who has waged nothing less than a campaign against the existence of the article. I think the only reason a VFD hasnt gone down yet is that the folks for it know the argument is weak and that such a vote would fail. They content themselves, then, to bash the article on the FAC nomination. How sad. I wonder if this has anything to do with who we are and what we stand for, i.e. USA authors one an Eagle Scout and the other a Naval Officer since, how interesting, but the ones who hate the article so much appear to be from other countries (China, Scandanavia, etc). I wouldnt dare post that offically, its just an observation Ive been making. - Husnock 3 July 2005 23:01 (UTC)

I dont understand why should the Brazilian flags be deleted. They are a public symbols and I did the pictures by myself. I have re-opened the issue of the royal stub at [1]. I think having it produce a noble link is farcical. Those who did it originally were no doubt well meaning but I don't think they really understood what they were doing. Nobility and royalty are not the same. Your opinions would be welcomed.

Hey Zscout,
I'd like to thank you for making your wonderful flags. However, in case you didn't notice, there is a new rule for flags that use the template PD-Flag on the Wikimedia Commons ( click here) which basically says that flags that we don't have permission for will eventually be deleted. With very few exceptions, all of the groups listed (even those with temporary redlinks) are notable; some have even survived VfD already. regarding the names of tsarinas of Russia: if from abroad, they changed their first name, such as Wilhelmina became Natalia Alexeievna, etc. Now, Wikipedia has certain rules that the so-called consort name is not to be used, because of several persons being e.g Empress Maria Fedorovna. And that a pre-marital name should be used. But I feel that it is acceptable to make a formulation "Natalia Alexeievna of Darmstadt" (the "of Darmstadt" being for disambiguation purposes) instead of using "Wilhelmina of Darmstadt". Now, I would like to know some of international opinion and from your page I thought that you are familiar with e.g Belarusian perspective. In other words, I am asking you to think whether from the perspective of encyclopedia-reader, (1) would it be acceptable to say "Natalia Alexeievna of Darmstadt" and (2) would that be better or worse than "Wilhelmina of Darmstadt". 62.78.105.68 08:57, 21 July 2005 (UTC)

You might want to keep an eye out on
Victoria of the United Kingdom and later pages on UK monarchs. A blocked user called
User:Skyring had been bombarding the pages with sockpuppets to try to ignite edit wars on the pages. I've spent much of the last week blocking his sockpuppets and reverting his changes. They are simply attempts to see can be get rows going over styles. He has no more interest in styles than in anything else. He just wants to try to get Proteus, Jguk, Whig and others at each other's throats. To stop others jumping in and his stunts succeeding I've been reverting the changes. (He has a history of trying to provoke rows on Wikipedia, and of stalking users of people he wants to annoy. He was banned from Wikipedia for a month for his stalking of me.
User:Petaholmes was another victim. He is also banned from some pages for a year.) To stop him it may be necessary to put the pages under short time protection. His ban (unless extended, and it should be for all his sockpuppetry) runs out at the end of the month so he might stop using sockpuppets then.

Good sir, I've done some more research and have rewritten the article. With all respect to the person who started the VFD (for his knowledge of Russian ranks is very substantial) I think this a conjectural rank that could be bestowed in times of war or national emrgency. I simply can't believe that there are currently no provisions in Russia to appoint a five star Admiral if and when the need arises. I am also left with the puzzling mystery of why there is an Army publication giving reference to the rank and pictures of the insignia available. With all the mysteries, I strongly feel the article needs to be kept. Your change back to keep would be certianly appreciated. - Husnock 18:52, 1 August 2005 (UTC)

Hi, Zscout370. I noticed that you recently swapped out the main image on the Flag of the United States for a newer version. Despite the fact that both are described as using PMS 193C for "red", the old image is clearly different from the new image. I know (or think, at least) that you've done a lot of work on the flags, so I figured you'd be the one to ask about this discrepancy. Are you sure the new one is correct? Don't forget to substitute templates with section headers (such as {{ Welcome2}} and {{ idw}}) when you use them on talk pages - it reduces server load, and prevents accidental blanking of the template. Alphax τ ε χ 13:10, 9 August 2005 (UTC)
Given the endless debate/rows etc over styles I've been thinking as to what is the best way to come up with a consensus solution. Styles have to be in an article, but using them upfront is, I think, a mistake and highly controversial. I've designed a series of templates which I think might solve the problem. There are specific templates for UK monarchs, Austrian monarchs, popes, presidents, Scottish monarchs and HRHs. (I've protected them all, temporarily, because I want people to discuss them in principle rather than battle over content and design right now.) I've used a purple banner because it is a suitable royal colour and is also distinctive. They are eyecatching enough to keep some of the pro-styles people happy; one of their fears seemed to be that styles would be buried. But by not being used they are neutral enough to be factual without appearing to be promotional. I'd very much like your views. I'm going to put them on a couple of user pages and ask for a reaction. There needs to be a calm debate on them this time.

hi, thanks for being willing to take my comments into account; although I'm afraid I'm even more pedantic than that :-) I did one reference quite fully as an example of exactly what I would like to see. Imagine that Lukashenko is replaced and his web site deleted; my reference will let you a) use the way back machine to see the old version and b) search google for the specific phrase and find it on his new web site (ex-president.org.by???) and c) understand what the comment was even if you can't find it anywhere.. It's a bit of work, but if you only get part way there it will really help.. BTW. I generally like the style of the article which seems quite balanced and am quite likely to support next time you nominate it depending on how I feel about my ignorance of the topic at the time. Hi,
I must say I do like how the article on the Order of Canada has turned out, although I do think that getting Michelle Jean as the new Gov Gen is a political move by Martin. The article is much better served with the removal and eligability articles moved to their own pages.
Lately I have been working on the List of Canadian awards page adding Provincial medals and awards (Alberta now has a ceremonial medal that has a listing on the order of priority) although I think I might have gone overboard on listing some of them - I ment to just list stuff like the Ontario Medal of Good Citizenship which actually contains postnominals.
I've been in Trois-Pistoles Quebec for a month learning French ( and fracturing my elbow in the process :) - I must say that I think I understand the seperatists even less now. It was weird that I saw only one Canadian flag and it was on the post office ! I did get to go to the Quebec Parliament Building (no canadian flag in their either - although I did manage to ask a question about that in FRENCH) and saw the room where they give out the National Order of Quebec.
So you heard that Smokey Smith has died ?

Hi. Is there anything in the rules on featured articles about blocking votes? More specifically, can any single user veto a featured article candidate?
Also, I don't quite understand what User_talk:Markalexander100 wants. Many people find numbers and dates interesting per se. Besides, the rules do not require an article to be interesting, whatever it may mean. Sashazlv 03:23, 11 August 2005 (UTC)
So, the question is who ultimately decides...
In fact, there are several articles related to Ukraine that have a potential to become featured. For instance, Verkhovna Rada, Kiev, and, for that matter, Ukraine itself. However, too few people can actually contribute. Too bad. Sashazlv 04:00, 11 August 2005 (UTC)
Maybe, a bit of PR could help, in general. What about other possibilities? Frankly, I think that Kiev has more of a potential than Hero of Ukraine. At least, it may have a much broader audience and is the article can hardly be "uninteresting". Sashazlv 04:17, 11 August 2005 (UTC)

Hi Zach. Please - if yyou're going to move stubs over to the new belarus stub category, DON't use SEWilco's new method! We still haven't been cleared for using metatemplates by the developers, and there's still no news that MW1.5 is any better than 1.4 for high-use templates. If countrystub is to be used on all country-related stubs, it will be on some 10,000 articles, slightly over the recommended 200-500. I firmly believe that this new template style is in danger of crippling Wikipedia, and don't want to sit idly by and watch it happen. so far, you're the only stub sorter who has added any comments in his scheme's favour, and I can't really understand why. Image:HoB-FA-MP.png is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.
Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.
If there is other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images uploaded after 4 May, 2006, and lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.

- Husnock 3 July 2005 23:01 (UTC)

regarding the names of tsarinas of Russia: if from abroad, they changed their first name, such as Wilhelmina became Natalia Alexeievna, etc.

Good sir, how have you been. A User slapped a VFD tag on Fleet Admiral (Russia) citing a page written in Russia as an example. Your keep vote would greatly be apprecaited as you are a champion on this site of Russian related military articles. Thank you! - Husnock 16:07, 31 July 2005 (UTC)

I can imagine how hard it is to get actual names for GNAA founders and members- and I feel that if that information cannot be provided, the article should not reach feature status because it is lacking information. I know PNG colors can be a bit tricky, frustratingly. I've had to use pngcrush in the past to "fix" gamma problems. — HorsePunchKid→ 龜 06:40, 3 August 2005 (UTC)

Hi Zach, I've made a few more changes. I looked over the articles on the corresponding Soviet awards and wrote up a paragraph on them to provide a bit of background. The articles I read didn't seem to have any sources, so we should probably find something that verifies what I wrote. And if you think anything needs to be changed or emphasized or whatever, go ahead and fix it. You know the subject better than I.

You should read the relevant policies and other pages linked to from the administrators' reading list before carrying out tasks like deletion, protection, banning users, and editing protected pages such as the Main Page. Zscout370, when your name popped up on RfA, I thought the smart money would be on you for breaking support vote records! :)
Thank you for supporting my adminship, it was very much appreciated, and congratulations on yours! :)
Please never hesitate to let me know if you have concerns with any administrative action I may make.

Since you protected your user page, I say it here. Please move it to your user page and display it to the world.
You've got already all the barnstars, national merit awards, etc. Besides, the Hero of Ukraine cannot be awarded twice :). Let's try this! :) -- Irpen 01:31, August 12, 2005 (UTC)
I think, I will not always follow this rule. Some people choose not to move the awards from talk to the front and it will never be there unless I put it myself. But thanks for letting me know. -- Irpen 01:53, August 12, 2005 (UTC)
Yes, today is a День Победы ( Victory Day). Zscout370 (Sound Off) & Irpen 03:00, August 12, 2005 (UTC)
Grutness... wha? 03:06, 12 August 2005 (UTC)
I've unblocked him, because he pointed out in his talk page that he hadn't done anything prohibited under Wikipedia:Sock puppet policy. -- Curps 13:16, 12 August 2005 (UTC)
I'll let an obviously more experienced editor take the lead. :D Well, do we have a coordinated project page? If not, let's start one. - Hmib 21:20, 12 August 2005 (UTC)

I finally got the admin mop this week and I started to clear out some of the images out of IFD. I know there is a lot of images there and I cleared out most of the ones from early August. Can you or others help clear some more of it out? Zscout370 (Sound Off) 20:48, 12 August 2005 (UTC)
What is the point of this edit? User:Jtdirl has stated on his user page that he dislikes Pope Benedict. I cannot believe this person has any honest intention for without comment reverting my edit which is factually correct!! 83.109.163.222 23:16, 12 August 2005 (UTC)
There is some sort of glitch that occassionally reverts the entire page to an earlier version of it when one adds a comment. Reverting and adding the new text while changing the page back seems to fix it.. -- Tothebarricades 20:09, August 13, 2005 (UTC)
Sorry I forgot to look at the page yesterday. :x Well now I took a look, and um, it's pretty empty. How about we start over and start by getting a list of national anthems, then a list of ones that needs work, and a guideline for necessary info to fill in? And a semi-related question: Are national anthems and US state songs automatically public domain, or at least free use? Thanks. - Hmib 00:21, 14 August 2005 (UTC)
Rather than simply page-protecting the page, can you also please block the particular IP addresses that are vandalizing the page?
Thank you. Robert McClenon 02:54, 14 August 2005 (UTC)
Thank you.
