We are half way through the penultimate round of this year's WikiCup; there is less than a month to go before we have our final 8. Our pool leaders are Adabow ( submissions) (Pool A, 189 points) and PresN ( submissions) (Pool B, 165 points). The number of points required to reach the next round is not clear at this time; there are some users who still do not have any recorded points. Please remember to update your submissions' pages promptly. In addition, congratulations to PresN, who scored the first featured topic points in the competition for his work on Thatgamecompany related articles. Most points this round generally have, so far, come from good articles, with only one featured article ( White-bellied Sea Eagle, from Casliber ( submissions)) and two featured lists ( Hugo Award for Best Graphic Story, from PresN and Grammy Award for Best Native American Music Album, from Another Believer ( submissions)). Points for Did You Know and good article reviews round out the scoring. No points have been awarded for In the News, good topics or featured pictures this round, and no points for featured sounds or portals have been awarded in the entire competition. On an unrelated note, preparation will be beginning soon for next year's WikiCup- watch this space!
There is little else to be said beyond the usual. Please list anything you need reviewing on Wikipedia:WikiCup/Reviews, so others following the WikiCup can help, and please do help if you can by providing reviews for the articles listed there. However, please remember to continue to offer reviews generally at GAC, FAC and all the other pages that require them to prevent any backlogs which could otherwise be caused by the Cup- points are, of course, offered for reviews at GAC. Two final notes: Firstly, please remember to state your participation in the WikiCup when nominating articles at FAC. Finally, some WikiCup-related statistics can be seen here and here. As ever, questions are welcome on Wikipedia talk:WikiCup and the judges are reachable on their talk pages, or by email. Good luck! I'm not sure what difference it makes if Time uses polls in making its lists. Are the poll results publicly available, or is there a description of how they are incorporated into the process? If poll data is simply used to inform the editorial selections, then the list is still fundamentally subjective and could have enough creativity for copyright protection. As Dragons flight explained in the discussion way back when, the lists that are excluded from protection are "lists which are derived solely from facts, statistics, or polling data". Time's use of categories already requires editorial decisions to invent the categories and assign who should go in which category, so it's pretty hard to see an argument that the use of polls undermines the potential copyright. -- Michael Snow ( talk) 23:09, 1 August 2011 (UTC)

I scanned through the category of possible FOUR candidates looking for WP:USRD and other highway articles. None were eligible, as most highway articles of some age were created by a different set of editors than the active USRD editing community that is GAN-ing and FAC-ing articles now.
In other constructive criticism, I suggest that you alter your signature to stop linking to your associated pet projects and that you remove your "trophy case" from your talk page. It's completely unnecessary to promote projects like that in your signature (which makes it overly long both in code and in display) and frankly, it's a bit tacky. Hello! If you're planning to be an active Online Ambassador for the upcoming academic term, now is the time to join one or more pods. (A pod consists of the instructor, the Campus Ambassadors, and the Online Ambassadors for single class.) The Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) explains the expectations for being part of a pod as an Online Ambassador. (The MOU for pods in Canada is essentially the same.) In short, the role of Online Ambassadors this term consists of:
This replaces the 1-on-1 mentoring role for Online Ambassadors that we had in previous terms; rather than being responsible for individual students (some of whom don't want or help or are unresponsive), Online Ambassadors will be there to help whichever students in their class(es) ask for help.
You can browse the upcoming courses here: United States; Canada. More are being added as new pods become active and create their course pages.
Once you've found a class that you want to work with—especially if you some interest or expertise in the topic area—you should sign the MOU listing for that class and get in touch with the instructor. We're hoping to have at least two Online Ambassadors per pod, and more for the larger classes.
If you're up for supporting any kind of class and would like me to assign you to a pod in need of more Online Ambassadors, just let me know.

You seem to be the guy who does all the Chicago stuff. I think that the Michael Jordan statue, at the United Center, warrants an article of its own, due to its artistic merit, as well as the fact that it was, in essence, created "prematurely". Would you consider creating it? 98.82.189.203 ( talk) 05:52, 28 July 2011 (UTC)
Sorry you had to wait a ridiculous amount of time to have this reviewed. Just a few things I'd like you to address.♦ Dr. Blofeld 11:43, 7 August 2011 (UTC)
Congratulations Shackleford (horse) passed, unlikely to ever be a FAC though. Congrats also on your Top 40.♦ Dr. Blofeld 17:31, 7 August 2011 (UTC)
Tony, I'll see what I can do about finishing up the revisions you suggested in the GA nomination. It would be a shame to let the thing fail when TCO did so much work. -- Coemgenus ( talk) 12:08, 8 August 2011 (UTC)
Thanks for uploading File:Here We Go Again (Strait) sample.ogg. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).
Note that any non-free images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described in the criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. Sfan00 IMG ( talk) 08:38, 9 August 2011 (UTC)
Sorry if I contacted you folks at the wrong page (sometimes wikimeetup groups are closely identified with their local wikiprojects, and sometimes not). Hey Tony! I noticed that you created A Star Is Born (2012 film) back at the beginning of this year. I have not found any sources that say the film has started principal photography and I don't think the film quite meets WP:Planned films. Would you consider an incubation of the article until the film has entered filming so it will meet WP:NFF? Thanks. BOVINEBOY 2008 19:29, 10 August 2011 (UTC)

I recently rescued this image from deletion, and I thought of you. It's a guest and a resident of Tiger Temple in Thailand. The Children's Museum of Indianapolis is hosting its second Backstage Pass and its first Edit-a-Thon on Saturday, August 20. The museum is opening its doors to Wikipedians interested in learning about the museum's collection, taking them on a tour of the vast collection before spending the afternoon working with curators to improve articles relating to the Caplan Collection of folk toys and Creative Playthings objects. Please sign up on the event page if you can attend, and if you'd like to participate virtually you can sign up on the Edit-a-Thon page. --- LoriLee ( talk) 15:10, 17 August 2011 (UTC) |
Tony, I'm not sure you properly understand why you were topic-bannned from FS. Your constant posting to Guerillero's talk page is also somewhat of a problem. I'm going to limit you to three posts to a user talk page, per 24-hour period. (The exception is your own user talk, of course).
You're a good person, and I fully accept that you want what's best for the project.
Please understand that this is for your own good. DS ( talk) 03:20, 19 August 2011 (UTC)

The seventh bullet point in WP:CAT#Categorizing pages states "Normally the most essential, significant categories appear first." Since what a person does is more important to when they lived, their birth and death date categories should typically not be at the top of the list, and are more appropriate at the end of the category list. Hi Tony, Thanks for the GA review you undertook recently on For Your Eyes Only. Good call on the grave headstone: see Wikipedia:Media copyright questions for details, but essentially too close to call whether it is protectable or not, so have to err on the side of safety. I'll not be putting it back up and will ensure that it remains off the page. Thanks again. - SchroCat ( ^ • @) 19:42, 31 August 2011 (UTC)
